Best Clash Royale Deck for Clan Wars (River Race) — October 2026

Clan Wars is the one Clash Royale mode that breaks every "best deck" list you've ever copied. River Race doesn't ask you for a deck — it asks you for four of them, built from 32 unique cards, with no card reused across any of them. Copy one meta list and you've spent your best eight cards; the other three decks are whatever's left over. That's why clanmates lose winnable River Races with maxed cards: they optimized one deck and improvised the rest.

This guide fixes that. Four complete, non-overlapping decks for the current (Season 88 "Shocktober") meta — balanced around what the October 6, 2026 balance patch actually changed, which is not what most sites are still reporting.

TLDR — the quick answer

  • Clan Wars needs 4 decks and 32 unique cards. A card can appear in only ONE of your four war decks — this is the core rule everyone forgets. (Official: Supercell support.)
  • Build your four decks as four different archetypes so a single card can't be "the best choice" in two of them. Below: a beatdown, a bridge-pressure, a control/siege, and a cheap cycle deck — zero card overlap.
  • The October 6 patch buffed several win conditions (Lava Hound +33% damage, X-Bow, Wall Breakers, Ram Rider, Goblin Drill/Barrel) and nerfed cycle/control enablers (Minion Giant hit speed, Evolved Cannon, Barbarian Barrel, Skeletons spawn spacing). That shifts River Race toward committing to a win condition early.
  • Battles use your own card levels in Clan Wars, so pick decks whose key cards you've actually leveled — a maxed common beats an under-leveled legendary.

How does deck selection actually work in Clan Wars?

River Race (the current Clan Wars format) runs a weeklong race down a river where your clan earns Fame by winning battles — Duels, Boat Battles, and classic 1v1s. The structure matters because of one constraint most deck guides skip entirely:

"You can use a card only in one War Deck." — Supercell, Clan Wars support documentation

You assemble four separate decks from a pool of 32 unique cards. Lose a Duel and you can't re-enter with the same deck; you rotate to the next one. So the question is never "what's the single best deck right now" — it's "what four decks cover the most matchups without sharing a card?"

Two practical consequences:

  • No shared staples. You cannot put The Log (or Zap, or Fireball) in all four decks. Decide which deck gets your one copy of each spell, and build the others around alternatives.
  • Your levels, not tournament standard. Unlike Path of Legends, Clan Wars battles use your actual card levels. A card you've maxed at Level 15 outperforms a "better" card you're running three levels under. Build toward your collection, not toward a pro's screenshot.

What changed in the October 6 balance patch?

This is where most of the internet is wrong this month. Several outlets (and, honestly, an earlier version of our own coverage) summarized the October 6, 2026 patch as "nerfs only." The official October balance changes say otherwise — there are clear buffs, nerfs, and one rework:

Win conditions buffed (this is the headline):

  • Lava Hound — damage 53 → 71 (about +33%), hit speed 1.3s → 1.5s. A real beatdown return.
  • X-Bow — damage 58 → 61. Siege control gets a nudge.
  • Wall Breakers — damage 281 → 302 (+7%).
  • Ram Rider — damage 250 → 271 (+8%).
  • Goblin Drill (crown-tower spawn damage 0 → 20) and Goblin Barrel (first-hit delay 0.4s → 0.3s) — both chip faster.
  • Three Musketeers — HP 883 → 906. Monk — ability cast time 0.93s → 0.7s.

Nerfs (mostly cycle/control enablers):

  • Hero Ice Wizard — Freeze ability damage 89 → 46. The big one for control shells.
  • Evolved Cannon — barrage damage 281 → 261.
  • Barbarian Barrel — 232 → 215.
  • Minion Giant — hit speed 1.5s → 1.7s (it swings slower now).
  • Royal Ghost — HP 1210 → 1152. Skeletons — spawn spacing tightened. Elixir Collector — slower lifetime/production.

Rework: Golden Knight — damage 161 → 168, but dash range 5.5 → 5 (hits harder, reaches less).

The takeaway for Clan Wars: win conditions got stronger and the cards that stall them got weaker. River Race rewards a clan that commits to offense across all four decks rather than running four defensive-cycle mirrors. The decks below lean into that.

The four decks — 32 unique cards, zero overlap

Each deck is a complete eight-card list. No card repeats across the four. Assign your spell copies as laid out, and you'll have a River Race rotation that covers beatdown, fast pressure, siege, and cheap cycle without ever being locked out of a matchup.

Clash Royale Balloon and Golden Knight card renders used in the Clan Wars deck rotation

Two of the deck anchors above — Balloon rides behind the buffed Lava Hound in Deck 1, and the reworked Golden Knight headlines the bridge-pressure deck. Here's the full set.

Deck 1 — Lava Hound beatdown (ride the buff)

Lava Hound · Balloon · Mega Minion · Flying Machine · Tombstone · Fireball · Arrows · Skeleton Dragons

With Lava Hound's +33% damage, LavaLoon is a legitimate River Race closer again. Tank the Hound, trail Balloon behind it, and let the air support (Mega Minion, Flying Machine, Skeleton Dragons) clear interceptors. Fireball and Arrows are this deck's spell slots — they do not appear in the other three. Best when you've leveled your air cards; beatdown punishes low-level support hard.

Deck 2 — Battle Ram bridge pressure

Battle Ram · Bandit · Royal Ghost · Golden Knight · Electro Wizard · Furnace · The Log · Earthquake

A fast, two-lane punishing deck that thrives when opponents overcommit — exactly what beatdown-heavy war weeks produce. Battle Ram is the tower threat; Bandit, Royal Ghost and the reworked Golden Knight punish bad rotations. This deck holds The Log and Earthquake as its spells. Note the October nerfs here (Royal Ghost HP, Golden Knight dash range) — play the pressure a touch more patiently than last season.

Deck 3 — X-Bow siege control

X-Bow · Tesla · Archers · Knight · Skeletons · Ice Spirit · Rocket · Tornado

X-Bow's small damage buff plus a meta tilting toward big pushes makes siege a strong "answer" deck in a four-deck rotation — it beats the beatdown lists other clans are now spamming. Lock the X-Bow behind Tesla and Tornado, defend, and chip. This deck takes Rocket and Tornado as spells (your Fireball lives in Deck 1). Skeletons here play defense-and-cycle despite the spawn nerf — placement matters more now.

Deck 4 — Hog cycle (cheap, your fourth lane)

Hog Rider · Musketeer · Valkyrie · Cannon · Ice Golem · Zap · Goblins · Royal Delivery

The 2.9–3.1 average-elixir cycle deck that's safe to pilot when you're behind on levels. Hog applies constant pressure; Cannon and Ice Golem defend; Zap is this deck's only spell (The Log went to Deck 2, Fireball to Deck 1, Rocket to Deck 3). Cheap, forgiving, and it closes Boat Battles where fast, repeatable pushes matter.

Spell allocation at a glance: Fireball → Deck 1 · The Log → Deck 2 · Rocket → Deck 3 · Zap → Deck 4 · Arrows → Deck 1 · Earthquake → Deck 2 · Tornado → Deck 3 · Royal Delivery → Deck 4. No spell is used twice.

How should I pick which deck to play in a Duel?

Duels are best-of-three with three different decks of your four — another reason overlap kills you. A simple rule for October 2026:

  • Leading on elixir trades / opponent playing beatdown? Lead with the X-Bow siege deck (Deck 3). It punishes slow pushes.
  • Opponent on siege/control? Open with Battle Ram pressure (Deck 2) to force them off their defensive rhythm.
  • Need a fast, low-variance win and you're level-starved? Hog cycle (Deck 4).
  • Save LavaLoon (Deck 1) for when you've scouted an air-weak opponent — beatdown is high-reward but slow, so don't open a Duel with it blind.

FAQ

Can you use the same card in more than one Clan Wars deck? No. In Clan Wars you build four war decks from 32 unique cards, and any single card can appear in only one of them. This is the defining constraint of War Deck building.

Do Clan Wars battles use tournament standard card levels? No — River Race battles use your own card levels. That's why a maxed common can outperform a higher-rarity card you haven't leveled, and why you should build your four decks around what you've actually upgraded.

How many decks do I need for Clan Wars? Four complete eight-card decks, totaling 32 different cards. You rotate through them across Duels, Boat Battles and 1v1s during the River Race week.

Did the October 6, 2026 patch only nerf cards? No. It buffed several win conditions — Lava Hound (+33% damage), X-Bow, Wall Breakers, Ram Rider, and the Goblin Drill/Barrel — while nerfing cycle and control enablers like Minion Giant's hit speed, Evolved Cannon, Barbarian Barrel and the Hero Ice Wizard's Freeze. Golden Knight was reworked (more damage, shorter dash).

What's the best single Clan Wars deck right now? There isn't one — the mode forces four. If you're only going to level one shell first, the Hog cycle (Deck 4) is the most level-forgiving and the cheapest to pilot while you build the other three.

Build the full rotation, not one deck

The clans that win River Race aren't the ones with the single strongest deck — they're the ones whose four decks each cover a different job and share nothing. Slot your spells once each, lean into the win conditions October buffed, and play to your real card levels. That's the whole game.
