EA FC 26: Should You Save Coins for FC 27? Spend-or-Save Guide (2026)

Verdict: spend them — coins do not carry to FC 27

Should you save coins for FC 27? No. Spend the vast majority of your coins before EA FC 26 ends. FUT coins reset to zero when the new game launches — nothing you hoard transfers. With FC 27 expected on September 25, 2026 (early access ~September 18), you have roughly nine weeks left on FC 26, and this is the cheapest the market will be all year. Keeping a large coin balance parked in your club is the single most common end-of-cycle mistake. The only currency worth banking is FC Points, which transfer once. Everything below is the exact spend-or-save breakdown.

Do FUT coins carry over to FC 27?

No. Coins are wiped to zero with every new EA Sports FC release, and they always have been. As FIFPlay's FC 27 Carryover Guide puts it plainly: "Coins never carry over between EA Sports FC titles."

Here is what actually transfers from FC 26 to FC 27, and what does not:

ItemCarries to FC 27?Notes
FUT Coins❌ No — reset to 0The core reason to spend now
Player Items / cards❌ NoYour entire club is left behind
Unopened & untradeable packs❌ NoOpen everything before launch
SBC / Objective progress❌ NoFresh start in FC 27
FC Points✅ Yes — once, same platformThe one thing worth saving
Returning-user rewards✅ YesLoyalty packs for coming back
Console achievements/trophies❌ NoEarned again in FC 27

Two practical takeaways: (1) a 2-million coin balance in September buys you nothing in FC 27 — it just evaporates; and (2) FC Points are the exception, so do not blow real-money FC Points on FC 26 packs in the final weeks unless you genuinely want those cards. Bank the FC Points, spend the coins.

When does FC 26 actually end?

FC 27 is widely reported to launch on Friday, September 25, 2026, with a week of early access (around September 18) for Ultimate Edition owners and EA Play subscribers. Kylian Mbappé has been leaked as the cover star. EA has not published every date to the day yet, but the September 25 window aligns with every previous FC/FIFA release and is being reported by Forbes, The Independent and long-standing FUT data sites alike.

That gives you a clear runway from late July:

  • Now → early September: peak spend window. FUTTIES is live, the market is soft, and there is still meaningful football to play.
  • ~September 18: FC 26's competitive relevance falls off a cliff as early-access players jump to FC 27.
  • A day or two before FC 27: the FC 27 Web App typically opens, letting you build your first squad — but you start with a fresh, empty club. Nothing from FC 26 comes with you except FC Points and returning-user packs.

The lesson from every previous cycle: coin values in the FC 26 market start sliding hard in the final weeks as players cash out. Waiting does not make your coins worth more — it makes the cards you could have bought cheaper for someone else.

Should you spend or save? The decision tree

Skip the "it depends" — here is the actual rule set.

Spend if you are still playing FC 26 (almost everyone). If you plan to touch Rivals, Champions, Squad Battles or Live Events even a few more times before September, build the best team you can afford now. FUTTIES cards are the highest-rated, most fun versions of players released all year, and late-cycle prices mean you can run a squad that would have cost 3–4× more in November. There is zero downside — the coins are gone either way.

Spend even if you are quitting early. If you are done with FC 26, dump coins into untradeable fodder and complete every worthwhile SBC for the pack value and completion rewards, or gift-build a fun meme squad. A parked balance is pure waste.

Save only in these narrow cases:

  • You are mid-trade and need liquidity to keep flipping (see our FUT trading guide) — but wind trades down before early access, when the market thins out.
  • You are holding coins to snipe a specific end-of-cycle SBC (icon or hero SBCs often land cheap late) — that is still spending, just timed.
  • You have FC Points (not coins) — those you genuinely bank for FC 27.

There is no scenario where holding a large idle coin balance into launch day is the correct play.

What to actually spend coins on before FC 27

Prioritise in this order for maximum enjoyment-per-coin in the final weeks:

  • Your endgame squad. Buy the FUTTIES and meta cards you always wanted but couldn't justify. This is the whole point of the last stretch — a dream team you get to actually play. Our best cheap meta team and how to spend coins guides both still apply, just with a bigger budget.
  • Chase-card SBCs and Player Picks. Late-cycle SBC fodder is cheap. Completing SBCs converts a dead coin balance into cards you get to use and rewards you get to open.
  • A final FUT Champions push. End-of-year Champions and Rivals rewards are some of the best of the season. If you want the rank rewards but not the stress, this is exactly what an EA FC 26 FUT Champions boost is for. See our FUT Champions guide for the format.
  • Open your packs. Every untradeable pack sitting in your store is worthless in FC 27. Open all of them before launch.

How much should you keep in reserve?

Rule of thumb: keep enough coins to stay liquid, not to hoard. If you are a trader, hold whatever working capital your flips need and no more. If you are a regular player, a small buffer (say, enough for a day or two of Transfer Market activity and any SBC fodder you're targeting) is plenty. Everything above that should be in your squad, in SBC completions, or opened. For a sense of what a competitive squad costs late-cycle, our how many coins for a good team breakdown is the benchmark — and right now those numbers are the lowest they'll be all year.

Why late cycle is the best value window of the year

EA FC 26 Division Rivals hub showing a live coin balance, an untradeable rewards pack, and the season-end countdown

Three forces stack in your favour in the final weeks, which is exactly why hoarding is backwards:

  • FUTTIES power creep. FUTTIES (Season 9) is the year's send-off promo — the best special cards of the entire cycle, released back-to-back. Per EA's Season 9 Pitch Notes, the campaign runs multiple weekly teams plus daily content, so supply is high.
  • Market deflation. As players cash out ahead of FC 27, tradeable cards flood the market and prices fall. Coins simply buy more card per coin than they did earlier in the year.
  • Cheap fodder. SBC fodder and rating-fodder prices soften late, making end-of-cycle SBCs far more affordable to complete.

Held coins do not appreciate. The window where they are worth the most is now, spent on cards while those cards are cheapest — not banked for a game that starts you at zero.

What about FC Points — spend or save?

FC Points are the mirror image of coins. Because they carry over once to FC 27 on the same platform, unspent FC Points are not wasted — they become your launch-week pack budget in the new game, when packs actually contain fresh, valuable cards. So the smart move in the final weeks is the opposite of coins:

  • Don't panic-spend FC Points on FC 26 packs just because the cycle is ending. A FUTTIES pack you open in September has no lasting value; the same FC Points opened in FC 27's early access can seed your whole new club.
  • Do spend FC Points on FC 26 only if you specifically want a card to play right now and will enjoy it for the remaining weeks.
  • Confirm the platform. FC Points transfer within the same platform family — buy and hold them where you'll play FC 27. Switching consoles or platforms can strand them.

Simple rule to remember for the whole end-of-cycle: coins down to near zero, FC Points banked.

Common end-of-cycle mistakes to avoid

Every year the same avoidable errors cost players their end-of-cycle value:

  • Hoarding coins "just in case." There is no case. They reset to zero. This is the number-one mistake.
  • Buying FC Points packs in a panic. FC Points carry over — packs opened in FC 26's final week do not.
  • Leaving untradeable packs unopened. Anything sitting in your store on launch day is gone. Open all of it.
  • Ignoring end-of-year rewards. The final Champions and Rivals rewards are among the best of the season — worth one last push, or a boost if you want the rank without the grind.
  • Selling your whole club too early. Sell tradeable cards you're done with, sure — but keep a playable squad until you actually stop playing. You can't play with an empty club.

FAQ

Do FUT coins carry over to FC 27? No. FUT coins are reset to zero when FC 27 launches and cannot be transferred. Player cards, unopened packs and SBC progress do not carry over either. The only currency that transfers is FC Points, and only once on the same platform.

When does EA FC 26 end and FC 27 come out? FC 27 is expected to release on September 25, 2026, with early access around September 18 for Ultimate Edition and EA Play players. That leaves roughly nine weeks of FC 26 from late July 2026, so you have plenty of time to spend down your balance.

Should I save my coins or spend them before FC 27? Spend them. Because coins reset, there is no benefit to hoarding. Build your endgame squad, complete worthwhile SBCs, push your final FUT Champions rewards, and open every untradeable pack before launch. Only keep a small buffer for trading or timed SBC snipes.

Should I keep buying FC Points before FC 27? Only if you genuinely want the packs now. FC Points transfer once to FC 27 on the same platform, so unspent FC Points are not wasted the way coins are. Bank the FC Points, spend the coins.

Is it worth grinding coins in the last few weeks of FC 26? Only if you'll enjoy spending them before launch. Grinding a huge balance you never spend is wasted effort. Grinding to fund a specific dream card, SBC or Champions push is worth it. Time the grind to a spending plan.

What happens to my club and packs when FC 27 launches? Your entire FC 26 club — cards, coins and unopened packs — stays behind. FC 27 starts you with a fresh club plus returning-user rewards. Open everything and spend your coins before the switch.
