EA FC 26 Ultimate Rewind Gauntlet: All 10 Challenges, 87 Free Packs and the 98 Calafiori (August 2026)

TLDR: The Ultimate Rewind Gauntlet has 10 challenges and you only need to finish 8 of them to claim the group reward: a 98-rated Ultimate Scream Riccardo Calafiori plus a 5× 91+ Rare Gold Players Pack. Across the full board there are 87 high-rated packs (86+ through 91+), 200 Pre-Season Tokens and 2 Evo Unlocks — which, with FUTTIES cards widely reported to be out of packs since Ultimate Rewind landed, makes this the best free fodder source left in FC 26. Skip Double Perfect and Score in 12 if you are short on club depth; they are the two hardest and you are allowed to drop two. Calafiori released August 24, 2026 and the window is short — treat August 31 as your deadline.

Ultimate Rewind changed the economics of FC 26 overnight. The promo replaced FUTTIES Team 4 in packs on August 21, and according to widespread community reports it also broke the loop most players had been living on: pulling a FUTTIES card out of every other 85+ x10, then recycling it straight back into the next upgrade SBC.

Whatever the exact pack weights, the practical effect is the same — free, guaranteed high-rated players are now worth more than they were a fortnight ago, and the biggest free stack in the game is sitting in an objective board.

The Ultimate Rewind Gauntlet is the biggest of those handouts. This guide covers all ten challenges, exactly which two to skip, how the unique-squad rule shapes your club, and whether the 98 Calafiori is worth the matches.

What is the Ultimate Rewind Gauntlet?

Gauntlet is FC 26's rotating run-based Ultimate Team mode. EA's own live event hub labels it "Classic Match · 3 Rounds · Gauntlet" and sums it up in one line: "Test your Club depth in the Ultimate Gauntlet to complete objectives and earn rewards!" That is literal — this is a squad-depth test wearing a football mode's clothes.

Three mechanics matter for the objective board:

  • The unique-squad rule is absolute. As FIFAUTeam's mode breakdown puts it, "after every round, you cannot use any player who took part in the current campaign, not even those on the bench." Substitutes are burned whether or not they came on.
  • There are no entry requirements. EA's event hub lists "No Entry Requirements" — no coin cost, no rating cap, nothing beyond the reuse rule. You just need bodies.
  • You do not restart after a loss. A defeat does not end your run; you keep playing until you hit that round's match cap. This is why "win at least 2 matches within a single round" is achievable even for average players.

Confirm one thing in-game: how many matches each round holds. FIFAUTeam notes the cap "can change throughout the season (typically three to five)". For this Gauntlet it has to be more than three, because the board lists a "win 3 in a round" challenge and a separate "Perfect Round" challenge — identical tasks if a round were only three matches long.

This is a live event objective group, not a Rivals or Champions requirement, so nothing here touches your Weekend League record.

What are all 10 Ultimate Rewind Gauntlet challenges and rewards?

Here is the full board. Both FUT.GG and Destructoid list an identical set of ten tasks and rewards.

Totals if you clear the whole board: 87 packs, 200 Pre-Season Tokens, 2 Evo Unlocks, and the Calafiori item. Every reward is untradeable — you cannot sell the packs or the player, only use them.

There is also a separate Ultimate Rewind Gauntlet Bonus Objective listed alongside the main group, worth a further 100 Pre-Season Tokens. It is a different objective; finishing the main board does not auto-complete it.

Which 8 of the 10 challenges should you actually do?

You need eight. That means you get to throw away the two worst tasks, and the board is designed so the two worst are obvious.

Drop these two first:

  • Double Perfect — two separate Perfect Rounds means winning every match in a round, twice, with a fresh squad each time. This is the single hardest ask on the board and it costs you the most club depth.
  • Score in 12 — twelve separate scoring matches is the longest grind here, and it demands enough unique players to field squads well beyond a single three-round run.

Do these six on autopilot: Score 1, Score in 4, Doubles, A Pair of Doubles, Triplets, A Pair of Triplets. All six fall out naturally from playing the mode with a competent squad.

Then take two of the remaining four: Score in 8, Perfect Round, Double Perfect and Score in 12. Realistically, Score in 8 plus one Perfect Round is the cheapest route to eight. Score in 8 overlaps completely with the scoring tasks you already finished, and a single Perfect Round only asks you to win one clean round — worth attempting in Round 1 while your best XI is still available.

That path leaves you with the 89+, 88+ and 86+ pack rewards plus the group reward. The two you skipped are the 87+ packs, which are the least valuable per pack anyway.

Why is Gauntlet fodder suddenly the best in the game?

This is the part most guides miss. The Gauntlet's pack rewards were always decent. What changed on August 21 is everything around them.

Ultimate Rewind re-released a large batch of past special items into packs — reported in the hundreds, though EA has not published a figure — while FUTTIES cards are widely reported to be out of the pool. Note that this is community observation, not an EA statement; EA does not publish pack weights.

Players on r/EASportsFC have been blunt about the knock-on effect. The recurring complaint is that the grind got materially worse: a FUTTIES card used to drop from roughly every other 85+ x10, which meant you never had to touch Team of the Week SBCs to keep the fodder cycle turning. With no FUTTIES appearing, that self-sustaining loop broke — one player described opening 20 packs and pulling two TOTS and nothing else usable. Others noted the re-released cards are frequently duplicates of promos already stacked in club, while the daily SBC submission limit throttles how fast you can recycle anything you do pull.

So the maths flipped. 87 untradeable packs at 86+ or better, for free, are the highest-value non-market fodder in the game right now — and unlike the market, they cost you nothing but matches. That matters most if you are still completing the last big SBCs of the cycle.

Is the 98 Calafiori worth the grind?

The group reward is an Ultimate Scream Riccardo Calafiori rated 98, released through Ultimate Rewind. It is a left-footed LB (Arsenal, Italy, Premier League) with 5★ skill moves and a 5★ weak foot, and it plays at RB, CB, CDM and LM as alternate positions.

EA FC 26 Ultimate Rewind 98-rated Riccardo Calafiori card showing 96 PAC, 97 DEF and RB, CB, CDM, LM alternate positions

The face stats are 96 PAC / 87 SHO / 98 PAS / 96 DRI / 97 DEF / 94 PHY, and FUTBIN lists the item with a release date of August 24, 2026.

The genuinely interesting part is not the rating — at this point in the cycle 98-rated defenders are not rare — it is that the item is fully customisable through PlayStyle Lab. EA's own Ultimate Rewind pitch notes state:

"The PlayStyle Lab levels up during Ultimate Rewind, with Player Items now able to receive up to five PlayStyle+. In addition, all OVR, stat, and rarity entry requirements have been removed, making every Player Item fully eligible."

EA Sports, ea.com/games/ea-sports-fc/fc-26/news/fc-26-ultimate-rewind

That is the real value. A free 98 defender with 5★/5★, four alternate positions and room for up to five PlayStyle+ is competitive with cards that cost seven figures on the market, and the entry requirements that used to gate the Lab are gone. The CDM and CB flexibility matters most — one card covers three problem slots in an end-of-cycle squad.

Verdict: worth it if you are still playing FC 26 seriously through September. The packs alone justify the matches; Calafiori is the bonus. Skip it only if you have completely stopped playing and are just waiting on FC 27 — in which case even the packs have nowhere to go.

Our PlayStyle Lab guide walks through which PlayStyle+ combinations are worth spending on a defender.

How do you build squads for a unique-squad mode?

The bench rule is what catches people out. Every player in your 18 — starting XI plus all seven substitutes — is burned once that round completes.

So each round costs you up to 18 players, and EA's hub confirms this Gauntlet runs 3 rounds: a full run-through needs roughly 54 usable cards. SuperCoinsy's mode breakdown lands in the same place, recommending you audit your club first and aim for 50 to 60 usable players, so you field three competitive squads rather than one good one and two collections of bronzes.

Practical squad plan:

  • Round 1 — your actual team. Best XI. This is your Perfect Round attempt, and it clears Doubles and Triplets immediately.
  • Round 2 — your second-best specials. Duplicate TOTS, Festival of Football and older promo items from club storage.
  • Round 3 — untradeable pack pulls. The 86+ and 87+ players you never used. Build for chemistry links rather than top ratings — a linked 84-rated squad outperforms an 88-rated squad on 0 chemistry.

Two habits that save you players: fill the bench with the worst usable cards in your club, since they are consumed identically to your starters; and front-load the scoring tasks, because Score in 4 and Score in 8 do not care which round they happen in.

When does the Ultimate Rewind Gauntlet end?

Calafiori released August 24, 2026, and Gauntlet events rotate on a short cycle — FIFAUTeam notes the mode "isn't always available; it rotates every one to two weeks."

Tracker sites currently disagree on the exact cut-off: FUTBIN lists the Calafiori item as expiring August 31, 2026, while live objective timers on other trackers point closer to September 3. Until EA states a single date in-game, plan around August 31. If the window turns out to be longer, you have finished early; if you plan for September 3 and FUTBIN is right, you lose the card.

Check the countdown on the objective tile in-game — that timer is the only authoritative one.

What is coming next in Pre-Season?

The Gauntlet is one of several objective groups running during Pre-Season, and the weekly Completionist chain is the one with real consequences for FC 27.

The Pre-Season Completionist runs four weekly groups: Week 1 Wilson (August 13), Week 2 Catarina Macário (August 20), Week 3 Otamendi (August 27) and Week 4 Trossard (September 3). Each week pays a Player Pick in FC 26 — a 1-of-4 88+ for Week 1, a 1-of-5 88+ for Weeks 2 and 3, and a 1-of-5 90+ pick for Week 4 — plus an 81+ x3 pack and 10,000 FC 27 coins delivered by October 16.

Clear all four and the completion reward is FUTTIES ICON Alessandro Del Piero (99) plus a further 20,000 FC 27 coins and a tradeable 1-of-3 83+ Player Pick. Across the full chain that is 60,000 carryover coins, four 81+ x3 packs and one tradeable pick.

One important caveat on Week 3: the Otamendi group container is live with its rewards visible — 5× 88+ Rare Gold Players Pack, 100 Pre-Season Tokens and the FUTTIES Otamendi item — but EA had not published the individual challenges at the time of writing. FUT.GG's objective page states plainly that the tasks for the group have not been released yet. Do not build a squad around leaked requirements; wait for the in-game tile.

The carryover rules are strict: you must log into FC 27 Ultimate Team on the same EA account and redeem within one month of delivery, or the rewards are forfeited. Full breakdown in our FC 27 carryover rewards guide, and the token side is covered in how to get Pre-Season Tokens fast.

Realistic time cost: a full three-round run plus a partial second, spread across two or three evenings. Count to eight and stop — if Double Perfect and Score in 12 are your two outstanding tasks, you are done. Claim Calafiori and the 91+ packs.

FAQ

How many Ultimate Rewind Gauntlet challenges do I need to complete? Eight of the ten. The group reward — Riccardo Calafiori and the 5× 91+ Rare Gold Players Pack — unlocks at eight completed challenges, so you can safely skip the two hardest tasks on the board.

Are the Ultimate Rewind Gauntlet rewards tradeable? No. Every reward in this objective group is untradeable, including the packs and the Calafiori item. You can use the players in SBCs and squads, but you cannot list them on the transfer market.

Do substitutes count as used in Gauntlet? Yes. Any player in your squad for a completed round is locked out of later rounds, whether they started, came on as a substitute, or sat on the bench the entire match. Fill your bench with players you do not need.

What is a Perfect Round in the Ultimate Rewind Gauntlet? Winning every match within a single round without dropping one. Because the board lists "win 3 matches in a round" as a separate challenge from Perfect Round, this Gauntlet's rounds are longer than three matches — check the in-game match cap before you commit your best squad to the attempt.

Is the 98 Calafiori better than a card I can buy? For most squads, yes. It is free, it is a 98-rated Arsenal left-back with 96 pace, 97 defending, 5★ skills and a 5★ weak foot that also plays RB, CB, CDM and LM, and Ultimate Rewind removed the OVR and rarity entry requirements from PlayStyle Lab, so it can take up to five PlayStyle+. Comparable customisable defenders on the market cost far more than the matches this takes.

When does the Ultimate Rewind Gauntlet expire? The Calafiori item released on August 24, 2026. FUTBIN lists it as expiring August 31, while some live trackers show a slightly longer window into early September. Treat August 31 as the deadline and confirm against the countdown on the objective tile in-game.
