FFXIV Scrips to Gil (Patch 7.57): Every Scrip Exchange Buy Ranked by Gil per Scrip

Quick answer: what should you buy with scrips to make gil?

In Patch 7.57, the scrip-to-gil items worth buying are rarely the materia most players reach for first. We priced every market-board-tradeable item on the four Rowena's House of Splendors currencies against live Universalis data for the Aether data center (pulled October 19, 2026). The ranking, by gil per scrip at the current lowest listing:

  • Purple Gatherers' Scrips → old fishing bait. Robber Ball, Giant Crane Fly and Baitbugs cost 1 scrip each and list for ~300–390 gil, with 450–800 units selling per day on Aether.
  • Purple Crafters' Scrips → Kingcraft Demimateria (~80 gil/scrip) in small stacks, then Craftsman's Cunning Materia IX (~30 gil/scrip) and Mason's Abrasive (~25–35 gil/scrip) for volume.
  • Orange Gatherers' Scrips → Red Maggots (~99 gil/scrip) for volume, or Mount Tokens (~50 gil/scrip) for big, liquid sales.
  • Orange Crafters' Scrips → Flint Corn and Rroneek Milk (~26–30 gil/scrip), ahead of Craftsman's Command Materia XII (~14 gil/scrip).
  • Skip gatherer materia. Gatherer's Grasp Materia XII returns under 2 gil per scrip, one of the worst conversions in the shop.

Before Evercold (Patch 8.0, January 2027), convert any leftover White Scrips into Purple now. Every past expansion has retired the older scrip color and closed the conversion path a cycle later (details below).

This is a guide to earning gil in-game from content you already play. Every step happens inside FFXIV.

How do scrips turn into gil in FFXIV?

Scrips can't be sold on the market board. You earn them by handing collectables to a Collectable Appraiser or by completing Custom Deliveries, then you spend them at any Scrip Exchange NPC. Gil comes from the second step: some Scrip Exchange items are marketable, so you buy them with scrips and list them on the market board.

Four currencies matter in 7.57, and each has a hard cap of 4,000 in your wallet (FFXIV Online Wiki — Scrips):

  • Orange Crafters' / Orange Gatherers' Scrips come from level-100 Dawntrail collectables and buy current endgame items.
  • Purple Crafters' / Purple Gatherers' Scrips come from lower-level collectables and buy items up to level 99, plus Grade XI materia.

Across the 1,100+ items in the four scrip shops, 357 are marketable (cross-checked against Universalis' marketable-item list). Most of those 357 are bad conversions. The trick is knowing which few are good.

Method. For each item we took the cheapest listing on Aether and divided it by the scrip cost. That gives gil per scrip, the only number that lets you compare a 1-scrip bait against a 1,000-scrip token. We also logged daily units sold, because a high price on an item that sells twice a day isn't income. Costs come from the in-game shop data mirrored on Garland Tools. Prices move daily and differ by data center, so check your own DC on Universalis before buying in bulk.

Which Orange Gatherers' Scrip items sell best?

Orange Gatherers' Scrips have the widest spread of any currency, with the best and worst conversions in the same shop.

ItemScrip costAether lowest / avg saleSold per dayGil per scrip
Botanist's Wall Frames50090,148 / 99,503~7~180
Red Maggots5494 / 425~2,370~99
Frosted Topiary1,00098,000 / 123,694~2~98
Ghost Nipper5299 / 552~550~60
Mount Token1,00050,000 / 48,975~296~50
Gatherer's Grasp Materia XII500790 / 1,002~6,380~1.6

Red Maggots are the volume play. At 5 scrips each and roughly 2,400 sales a day on Aether, a full 4,000-scrip wallet becomes 800 maggots worth about 395,000 gil at today's floor. Sell in batches of 50–100 over a few days instead of dumping all 800 at once, or you'll crash the price you're relying on.

Mount Tokens are the low-effort play. One token costs 1,000 scrips and sells for about 50,000 gil on every NA and EU data center we checked: Aether, Primal, Crystal, Light and Chaos all have lowest listings between ~47,000 and ~50,500 gil, with 250–675 sold per day. Buyers want them because the Rroneek and the Barreltender mounts each cost 100 Mount Tokens, or 100,000 Orange Gatherers' Scrips. Players who want the mount without the grind buy tokens, and that keeps demand steady.

Furnishings pay best per scrip but move slowly. Botanist's Wall Frames clear about 180 gil per scrip, and only around 7 sell per day on Aether, 4–13 on other data centers. List one or two at a time.

Gatherer materia is a trap. Gatherer's Grasp Materia XII costs 500 scrips and sells for under 1,000 gil. The same 500 scrips in Red Maggots are worth ~49,000 gil, roughly 60x more. Gatherer materia is flooded because every gatherer can buy it and almost nobody needs it.

Which Orange Crafters' Scrip items sell best?

Orange Crafters' Scrips are where most players default to materia. Materia isn't a bad pick, but it isn't the top one either.

ItemScrip costAether lowest / avg saleSold per dayGil per scrip
Flint Corn15449 / 584~7,095~30
Rroneek Milk15398 / 611~1,430~27

Craftsman's Command Materia XII5007,213 / 7,401~1,080~14
Craftsman's Competence Materia XII5005,394 / 6,717~720~11
Condensed Solution1251,200 / 1,622~1,660~10
Craftsman's Cunning Materia XII5002,900 / 2,672~860~6

Flint Corn is the surprise winner. It's a 15-scrip cooking ingredient that sells over 7,000 units a day on Aether, more than any other item on this list. That volume means you can unload hundreds without moving the price much. A 4,000-scrip wallet buys 266 corn, worth about 119,000 gil, against roughly 57,000 gil from eight Craftsman's Command XII.

If you prefer materia, pick Command and skip Cunning. Command XII (Control) is the crafter stat players meld most, and it sells for more than twice what Cunning XII (CP) does. Competence XII sits in the middle.

Condensed Solution is used in crafting the current top-tier crafter gear, so demand holds steady, but at ~10 gil per scrip it's a middling conversion.

What should you buy with Purple Scrips for gil?

Purple scrips come from easier, lower-level collectables, which makes their best conversions the most efficient gil in this guide.

Old fishing bait is the best gil-per-scrip buy in any scrip shop right now. Older baits from the Heavensward-to-Shadowbringers tiers, like Robber Ball and Baitbugs, are only sold for Purple Gatherers' Scrips, at 1 scrip each, and fishers chasing old big fish keep buying them. The catch is volume. Aether moves roughly 450–800 of each per day, so treat bait as a daily side listing of 50–100 per type, not a way to dump 4,000 scrips at once. Spread across five bait types (Squid Strip included), it still adds up quickly.

Older crafter materia beats the new tier. Craftsman's Cunning Materia IX costs 200 Purple Crafters' Scrips and sells for about 6,000 gil with ~1,500 sales a day, about 30 gil per scrip. Craftsman's Command Materia XI (250 scrips, ~6,000 gil, over 3,000 sales a day) works out to ~24 gil per scrip, against ~14 for Command XII. XI and XII come out of different wallets (Purple vs Orange), but the takeaway holds: leveling crafters and budget melders buy older-tier materia in huge numbers.

Mason's Abrasive is the other high-volume crafter-side sink: 500 scrips, a ~17,700 floor (recent sales average ~12,400) and ~1,560 sold daily. That's ~25–35 gil per scrip with room to list several at once.

Kingcraft Demimateria (25 scrips, ~2,000 gil) is the best crafter-side ratio, but only ~300 sell daily, so list in small stacks.

One Reddit tip that holds up in our data: once you own every Master Recipe book and Folklore tome you need, the rest of your purple scrips should go to marketable items, not more gear you'll replace.

Should you spend scrips before Evercold?

Yes, especially White Scrips. Here's the pattern, straight from the scrip history on the FFXIV Online Wiki:

"The most recently retired scrip can be traded up for the next valid one at a 1:1 rate at the Scrip Exchange in Mor Dhona." (FFXIV Online Wiki, Scrips)

Every expansion since Stormblood has followed the same cycle:

ScripRetired withConversion closed with
RedShadowbringers (5.0)Endwalker (6.0)
YellowEndwalker (6.0)Dawntrail (7.0)
WhiteDawntrail (7.0)Expected: Evercold (8.0)

What that means for you:

  • White Scrips are convertible 1:1 into Purple at the Mor Dhona Scrip Exchange (X:22.4, Y:6.7). If the pattern holds, Evercold closes that door, and Yellow Scrips lost their conversion the same way when Dawntrail launched. Convert them now.
  • Purple Scrips will likely become the "retired" color at 8.0, convertible 1:1 into the newer currency. You probably won't lose them, but Square Enix hasn't announced Evercold's scrip changes as of October 20, 2026, so the safest move is to turn surplus purple into gil before January.
  • Orange Scrips should stay current into Evercold. Keep a working stash for new-expansion crafter and gatherer gear.

There's a second reason to sell early: demand for level-100 materials and materia softens once the cap rises to 110 and the new tiers arrive. Our guides on what to stockpile before Evercold and how much gil to save before Evercold cover the rest of the pre-expansion plan.

How do you sell scrip items without crashing the price?

The ratios above only hold if the market holds. These five habits protect your margin:

  • Check your own data center first. Prices vary a lot. Craftsman's Cunning XII has a lowest listing of ~2,900 gil on Aether but ~300 gil on Chaos. Pull up the item on Universalis before you spend a single scrip.
  • Respect daily volume. Never list more than about 10–20% of an item's daily sales at once. For a 2-sales-a-day topiary, that means one listing.
  • Price against the floor, not the average. Averages include old spikes. Slithersand's "14,376 average" is inflated, and the real floor is ~7,000 on Aether.
  • Spread across items. Splitting 4,000 scrips across bait, Kingcraft Demimateria and Command XI earns more than going all-in on one item and undercutting yourself.
  • Budget for tax. The market board takes 5% (3% in reduced-tax cities, which rotate), so your gil per scrip is about 5% lower than the table.

For listing strategy in general, our market board flipping guide covers undercut etiquette and retainer placement.

How much gil can a full scrip wallet make?

Here's what a capped 4,000-scrip wallet of each currency is worth, sold over a few days on Aether at current floors and before tax:

Currency (4,000 scrips)Default "materia" choiceBest mixed choiceDifference
Orange Gatherers'~6,300 gil (8x Grasp XII)~200,000–395,000 gil (Mount Tokens + Red Maggots)~30–60x
Orange Crafters'~57,700 gil (8x Command XII)~106,000–119,000 gil (Flint Corn + Rroneek Milk)~2x
Purple Crafters'~96,000 gil (16x Command XI)~120,000–140,000 gil (Cunning IX + Mason's Abrasive + Kingcraft Demimateria)~1.3–1.5x
Purple Gatherers'~9,600 gil (16x Grasp XI)~1,000,000+ gil (4,000 bait at 185–390 each, sold over 1–2 weeks)~100x+

Scrips aren't a get-rich method on their own. They're a gil multiplier on top of collectables you're already crafting or gathering. A crafter or gatherer who caps all four wallets each week and converts them well can add several hundred thousand gil a week for very little extra effort. If you haven't picked a gil job yet, our ranking of the best non-combat jobs for gil is the place to start.

FAQ

Can you sell scrips for gil directly in FFXIV? No. Scrips are untradeable and can't be listed on the market board. You turn them into gil by buying marketable items at the Scrip Exchange, such as fishing bait, Mount Tokens, materia, crafting ingredients and furnishings, and selling those.

What is the best thing to buy with Orange Gatherers' Scrips for gil? For volume, Red Maggots (5 scrips, ~99 gil per scrip on Aether, ~2,400 sold per day). For fewer, bigger sales, Mount Tokens (1,000 scrips, ~50,000 gil each, steady on every NA and EU data center). Avoid Gatherer's Grasp, Guile and Guerdon Materia XII, which return under 3 gil per scrip.

Is Grade XI or Grade XII crafter materia better for gil? Per scrip, Grade XI, though they come from different wallets: XI costs Purple Crafters' Scrips and XII costs Orange. Craftsman's Command Materia XI costs 250 Purple and sells for about 6,000 gil (~24 gil per scrip). Command XII costs 500 Orange for about 7,200 gil (~14 gil per scrip). Older Cunning Materia IX does even better, at ~30 gil per scrip.

What happens to my scrips when Evercold launches? Square Enix hasn't announced it yet. Historically, each expansion retires the older scrip color and leaves it convertible 1:1 into the newer one for one expansion cycle. White Scrips are in their conversion window now, so trade them up to Purple at the Mor Dhona Scrip Exchange before Patch 8.0.

How many Mount Tokens do you need for the Rroneek mount? 100 Mount Tokens, which is 100,000 Orange Gatherers' Scrips. The same 100 tokens are worth roughly 5 million gil on the market board, which is why so many gatherers sell their tokens instead.

What patch is this scrip data for? Patch 7.57 (live since October 13, 2026), with prices pulled from Universalis on October 19, 2026. Patch 7.57 didn't change any scrip exchange prices. Its changes were to the Crucible of the Unbroken and Japanese same-region matching, per the official 7.57 patch notes.
