The Fortnite Safety in Numbers quests are the free Fortnitemares 2026 rewards a lot of players haven't found yet, because they don't show up in the normal Quests tab. They arrived with the second half of Fortnitemares on 15 October 2026 (update v42.40, Chapter 7 Season 4 "Override"). Clear them and you get five free cosmetics: two pickaxes, a back bling, a loading screen and a banner icon. There's a catch, though. Every bit of progress has to come from horror islands made by community creators, and you have to be partied up with at least one friend. This guide covers all 10 stages, every reward, why the quests can be hidden from you, which horror map codes actually pay XP, and the real deadline. Some guides still give the wrong one.
Quick answer: Safety in Numbers is 10 repeatable stages. Each stage asks you to earn 80,000 XP on Horror Creator-made islands while in a party with friends, so the full set is 800,000 XP. Every 2 stages unlocks a reward: Banner Icon (2), Tarnished Crowbar pickaxe (4), Welcome to Harrowville loading screen (6), Chilling Claws pickaxe (8), Cuddlz back bling (10). Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload, Horde Rush and OG XP does not count. The quests only appear when a qualifying horror island is selected in the lobby. They run until 12 November 2026, 6 AM ET (11:00 UTC), not 31 October.
What are the Safety in Numbers quests in Fortnite?
Safety in Numbers is a limited-time Creative questline. Epic added it on 15 October 2026 with the second Fortnitemares 2026 update. Epic announced it the same day:
"There's definitely Safety in Numbers π₯ Squad up in an Epic Party and earn rewards for every horror Island you survive together." (Fortnite on X, 15 October 2026)
The design is simple. There is one objective, repeated 10 times: earn 80,000 XP on Horror Creator-made islands while in a party with friends. Every completed stage counts toward the reward track, and a cosmetic unlocks at every second stage. Outlets including Beebom and GAMES.GG report that each stage also pays a 10,000 XP bonus on completion. That adds about 100,000 XP across the set, on top of the XP the islands give you while you play.
Two conditions are easy to miss:
- It has to be a horror island made by a community creator. These are the user-made experiences you pick in Discover, under the Horror / Thrills and Chills category. Epic-run modes don't count.
- You need a party. Playing solo on a horror map adds nothing. You need at least one friend in your Epic Party.
All Safety in Numbers rewards (and what each one costs in XP)
All five rewards were added to the game files on 15 October 2026. The names, rarities and in-game descriptions below come from the item data:
| Stages done | Total horror-island XP | Reward | Type / rarity | In-game description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 | 160,000 | Banner Icon | Homebase banner | β |
| 4 | 320,000 | Tarnished Crowbar | Pickaxe, Rare | "It's been a long time since this pried anything open." |
| 6 | 480,000 | Welcome to Harrowville | Loading screen, Uncommon | "You're in for the fright of your life." |
| 8 | 640,000 | Chilling Claws | Pickaxe, Rare | "Make 'em disappear into the darkness." |
| 10 | 800,000 | Cuddlz | Back Bling, Rare | "Decrepit cutie." |
Players are excited about the Tarnished Crowbar. In the main r/FortniteBR thread, the first reply was simply "The crowbar!", and others pointed out the obvious Half-Life look. Cuddlz is the main prize: a stitched-up horror teddy bear with an eye patch, a zipper belly and a mouthful of teeth. Like most event cosmetics, these could come back in the Item Shop later, but Epic hasn't said so. For now, the quests are the only way to get them for free.
Why can't I see the Safety in Numbers quests?
This is the most common complaint, and it's a UI quirk, not a bug on your account. The quests only show up in the Quests tab when you have a qualifying mode selected in the lobby. If you have Battle Royale selected, you won't see them.
One player in the r/FortniteBR discussion summed up the frustration:
"I had no idea there were these quests and they don't show up unless you have the mode they are for selected already."
Another player noted that the "all quests across all modes" view from earlier seasons seems to be gone. Here's the fix:
- Open Discover and pick a horror island (from the Horror / Thrills and Chills row, or by entering a code from the table below).
- With that island selected, open the Quests tab. Safety in Numbers should now be listed.
- If it still isn't there, that island doesn't qualify. Pick a different horror map.
That last step doubles as your eligibility test. Before you and your friend spend an hour on a map, check that the questline appears with that island selected. If it doesn't, your XP on that map won't count.
Best horror maps for Safety in Numbers (verified codes)
The codes below are listed as qualifying by GameRant and GamingAlly, or recommended by players in r/FortniteXPMaps. We checked every code against its official island page on fortnite.com on 21 October 2026:
| Island | Code | Creator | Why it's on the list |
|---|---|---|---|
| Murder Mystery | 5253-8468-3364 | goodgamers | Short rounds; the fastest completion players reported (see below) |
| Trick, Treat, Die! | 9279-9186-3094 | tomjank | Halloween-themed; listed as qualifying by GameRant |
| SCALE | 7288-9515-0748 | denni | Listed as qualifying by GameRant and GamingAlly |
| ABYSS | 8835-4983-3982 | ouch | Listed as qualifying by GameRant and GamingAlly |
| HORROR DEATHRUN | 3790-5254-6852 | frog_team | Community pick: grind rail with XP badges along the deathrun |
To enter a code: go to Discover, open search, type the code, select the island, then check the Quests tab before you ready up.
Murder Mystery tips from players. One r/FortniteXPMaps player reported finishing all 10 stages in about two hours. They played in a private Murder Mystery lobby, ran around collecting coins and replayed round after round. Their one warning: skip the Mansion map. It runs the Infected mode, where "infected takes a long time to complete a round if you aren't infected and grants minimal XP for a 'kill'." If Mansion comes up in the map vote, vote for something else.
That two-hour figure is one player's report, not a guarantee. Your time depends on the map, your party and the XP caps covered below.
Why some horror maps give almost no XP (calibration explained)
Plenty of players are hitting the same wall. In the r/FortniteXPMaps thread about this questline, one player wrote that there seem to be "very few qualifying 'horror creator made' maps, most of which aren't even calibrated, and the ones that are give absolutely abysmal XP."
There's a reason for this. XP on community-made islands isn't a fixed payout. Epic's own documentation explains that new islands go through a calibration phase:
"When an island that uses accolades is published, it will go through a calibration process to evaluate how often players receive each accolade compared to how long they playβ¦ Once calibration is complete, the weights for each level of XP award are determined." (Epic Developer Community β calibration)
In practice, this means:
- A map that's still calibrating may only pay playtime XP. The player who recommended HORROR DEATHRUN said it was in the "Analyzing" phase and paying playtime XP only, about 2,700 XP per minute, with badge XP expected once calibration finishes.
- At about 2,700 XP per minute, one 80,000 XP stage takes roughly 30 minutes. The full 800,000 XP takes around 5 hours. Maps that pay accolade XP as well should be much faster.
- A map's payout can change during the event as calibration updates. If a map suddenly slows down, try another one from the table.
These per-minute numbers come from players' own measurements, not Epic. Epic doesn't publish per-island XP rates.
How to finish Safety in Numbers fast: a step-by-step plan
- Party up first. Invite at least one friend into your Epic Party before you load in. Progress only counts while you're partied.
- Pick a horror island and confirm it qualifies. Select it, open Quests, and make sure Safety in Numbers is listed.
- Start with a short-round map. Murder Mystery (avoid Mansion) is the fastest route players have reported so far.
- Track each 80,000 XP stage. Stages complete one at a time. A reward unlocks at every second stage, so the Tarnished Crowbar arrives at 320,000 XP.
- Stack Creative daily and weekly quests. GameRant recommends clearing your Creative dailies and weeklies at the same time for extra XP. Any XP earned on a qualifying horror island in a party counts toward the stage.
- Switch maps if your XP stalls. That can be calibration or an XP cap (next section). Rotate maps instead of grinding a dead one.
- Claim rewards as they unlock from the questline's reward track.
If you also want the main Fortnitemares rewards, our Fortnitemares 2026 quests and free rewards guide covers the Jack-a-Nape outfit questline. Note that it runs in Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload and Horde Rush, which is the opposite of Safety in Numbers.
Do XP caps slow down Safety in Numbers?
Possibly, if you try to do it all in one sitting. Epic has never published official XP caps. The community-measured figures we track in our Fortnite level-up guide are:
- A daily soft cap, reported at roughly 200,000β600,000 XP, where XP per action shrinks rather than stopping completely.
- A Creative weekly ceiling reported at about 4β4.8 million XP.
- About 80,000 XP per Battle Pass level.
The full Safety in Numbers set is 800,000 XP, far below any weekly ceiling. But if you try to clear all 10 stages in one day, you may hit the daily slowdown partway through. If your XP rate drops sharply late in a session, the best fix is to log off and finish the next day. All of these numbers are community-tested, not confirmed by Epic.
There's a bonus here, too. Each 80,000 XP stage is about one Battle Pass level, so the full set is worth around 10 levels before the per-stage bonus XP. That makes it a decent catch-up option for the Override pass before the season ends.
When do the Safety in Numbers quests end?
12 November 2026 at 6 AM ET (11:00 UTC). GameRant, GamingAlly, TechWiser and Allthings.how all report that end date, and Fortnite Underground's launch post also says "Ends November 12". The in-game quest timer is the final word.
Some guides still say the rewards expire on 31 October 2026. That mixes up three different deadlines:
| What | Ends |
|---|---|
| Chapter 7 Season 4 "Override" | 1 November 2026 Eastern Time, per Epic's battle pass page (31 October in some timezones) |
| Fortnitemares 2026 | 1 November 2026 |
| Safety in Numbers quests | 12 November 2026, 6 AM ET |
So the questline carries on into the mini-season that follows Override, about two weeks after the season changes. You don't have to finish before Halloween. The Override Battle Pass is different: if you want to use this XP for its levels, that deadline is 1 November. More on what happens then in what to do before Chapter 7 Season 4 ends and our Fortnitemares 2026 end date guide.
No friends online? Your options
The party rule is strict. Players asking for partners is one of the most common Safety in Numbers posts on r/FortniteBR this week. Your legitimate options are:
- Party up with anyone on your friends list. It doesn't have to be your usual squad. They just need to be in your Epic Party while you play.
- Use the community's party-up threads. r/FortniteBR has several "anyone wanna party up for Safety in Numbers" posts. Players who don't have a partner are looking for each other.
- Play together for real. Both players earn progress at the same time, so an hour together moves you both forward. You don't need to take turns.
Avoid any "quest completion" service that asks for your Epic account login. Sharing your account breaks Epic's terms of service and puts your locker at risk, and these quests take a few hours at most.
Want more XP after Safety in Numbers?
Once Cuddlz is unlocked, horror maps aren't your best source of XP anymore. Switch to the methods we've tested in the best Fortnite XP maps, with XP per hour. If you'd rather stay in the Halloween mood with your squad, Horde Rush counts toward the main Fortnitemares quests and pays well for a party that sticks together.

FAQ
How many Safety in Numbers quests are there in Fortnite? There are 10 stages, all with the same objective: earn 80,000 XP on Horror Creator-made islands while in a party with friends. That's 800,000 XP in total, with a reward unlocking every 2 stages.
Can you do Safety in Numbers solo? No. Progress only counts while you're in an Epic Party with at least one friend. Playing solo on a horror island earns normal XP but adds nothing to the questline.
Does Battle Royale XP count toward Safety in Numbers? No. Only XP from Horror Creator-made islands counts. Battle Royale, Zero Build, Reload, Horde Rush and OG XP don't count.
Why are the Safety in Numbers quests not showing up? The Quests tab only lists them when a qualifying horror island is selected in the lobby. Select a horror map from Discover first, then open Quests. If they still don't appear, that island doesn't qualify.
What is the reward for completing all Safety in Numbers quests? Finishing all 10 stages unlocks Cuddlz, a Rare back bling. Along the way you also get a Banner Icon, the Tarnished Crowbar pickaxe, the Welcome to Harrowville loading screen and the Chilling Claws pickaxe.
When does Safety in Numbers end in Fortnite? The quests are reported to end on 12 November 2026 at 6 AM ET (11:00 UTC), about two weeks into the mini-season after Chapter 7 Season 4. Guides that say 31 October are giving the season's end date, not the quest deadline.
Is there a free V-Bucks reward in Safety in Numbers? No. The questline gives only XP and the five cosmetics above. Epic has never offered free V-Bucks codes, so treat any site promising them as a scam.
Applies to Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 "Override", update v42.40 (Fortnitemares 2026, second half). Last checked 21 October 2026. Map codes verified against fortnite.com island pages that day. XP rates and caps are community-measured, not Epic figures.
