Quick answer
Yes, you can skip most of Fire & Concrete in NBA 2K27, but only at the moment you start a new MyCAREER. On the "Choose Where Your Fire & Concrete Story Begins" screen, pick Chapter 6: Beginnings instead of Chapter 1: Heat Check. That drops your MyPLAYER straight into the start of their NBA rookie season and skips high school, Rucker Park, the G League and the Draft. Once you've started from Chapter 1, you can't skip forward on that save, and there's no option to sim the G League games one by one. If you don't want the modern story at all, pick MyCAREER Eras instead.
What it costs you: 5 of the 15 Dynasty Badges are tied to Chapters 1–5 and the G League stint, plus the stars, VC and Season XP those early games would have paid. Dynasty Badges boost your AI teammates, not your MyPLAYER. So for a second build, a Rebirth or a new GOAT Build that's going to live in The City and Rec, Chapter 6 is usually the right call. Everything below applies to Season 2 on Update 2.0, checked October 20, 2026.
Key numbers at a glance:
- 11 chapters in Fire & Concrete, more than double the length of NBA 2K26's story
- 3–8 hours to reach the NBA chapters if you play the prelude, by one tracker's estimate
- 5 of 15 Dynasty Badges are earned in content that Chapter 6 skips, going by each badge's listed earn condition, and 10 stay earnable
- 0 ways to skip forward once you've started from Chapter 1 on a save
Can you skip Fire & Concrete in NBA 2K27?
Partly. 2K's own MyCAREER page describes the story as one that "follows your MyPLAYER from high school, through the G League, and straight into the NBA" (nba.2k.com MyCAREER). The newsroom calls it "over double the length of last year's story" across 11 chapters (2K Newsroom). That length is why so many players ask how to get out of it. When you set up a new career, you get three real choices:
| Option | What happens | Skips the story? |
|---|---|---|
| Fire & Concrete → Chapter 1: Heat Check | Full story from your MyPLAYER's high school championship game | No |
| Fire & Concrete → Chapter 6: Beginnings | Starts "from the beginning of his rookie season in the NBA" (in-game card text) | Skips Chapters 1–5 |
| MyCAREER Eras | Career in one of five historical eras (1984, 1991, 2003, 2010, 2016) | Skips the modern story completely |
The Chapter 6 route is the one most guides document. Nux Game Guides says plainly that you can skip the G League "only when starting a new Fire & Concrete career," and RealSport101 describes the same Chapter 1 or Chapter 6 choice.
There's one open question. The experience screen also shows an NBA tile, and GameDaily reports that "once you've completed Fire & Concrete at least once, future MyCAREER playthroughs will allow you to skip the story completely." RealSport101 says the reverse: you can't skip the whole story. 2K hasn't published a rule for this. If the NBA tile is selectable on your account, that's your fully story-free modern career. If it isn't, Chapter 6 is the shortest modern route.
How do you skip to the NBA in MyCAREER?
- Create or select a MyPLAYER that hasn't started a career yet. The story-start choice belongs to the new career, not the account, so it applies to any fresh MyPLAYER, whether that's a brand-new build, a Rebirth build or a new GOAT Build.
- Pick Fire & Concrete on the Select MyCAREER Experience screen.
- On "Choose Where Your Fire & Concrete Story Begins," highlight Chapter 6: Beginnings and confirm.
- Play from your rookie season onward. Chapters 6–11 and the rest of the story still run normally.
The choice only appears at that start screen. Both Nux and RealSport101 confirm that once you've picked Chapter 1, the high school and G League sections can't be skipped on that save. The only way out is a new MyPLAYER. There's also no standard option to sim past each G League game. You play the prelude, or you start a different save.
What do you lose if you skip Fire & Concrete?
This is the part most "yes you can skip it" answers leave out. You lose three things.
1. Five Dynasty Badges
Dynasty Badges are a separate MyCAREER badge set: 15 badges that give bonuses to your teammates rather than to your MyPLAYER. You'll find them under MyCAREER → Progression → Dynasty Badges. Each one has Bronze, Silver and Gold levels. Some come from story beats and the rest from NBA-season Key Game sets (Nux Game Guides, Dynasty Badges). 2K hasn't published the list, so treat the table below as tracker-reported and check the in-game menu.
| Dynasty Badge | How it's earned | Bronze effect (teammates) | Skip to Chapter 6? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Style Points | Dion's Open Run, Chapter 2 | + Bail Out, Post Spin Catalyst | ❌ Lost |
| Championship Mindset | Complete Chapter 4 | + All Attributes | ❌ Lost |
| Up and Coming | Complete Chapter 5: The Draft | + Potential Boost | ❌ Lost |
| Thou Shall Not Pass | Play for Sioux Falls (G League) | + Perimeter Defense, Defensive Consistency | ❌ Lost |
| Paint Protectors | Play for Delaware (G League) | + Block, Strength | ❌ Lost |
| Team Handles | Win the FIBA Championship, Chapter 11 | + Ball Handle, Speed With Ball | ✅ Still earnable |
| Everybody Eats | Score on Running Mate Quick Plays | + Shot IQ, Hands | ✅ Earnable with Trace on your roster |
| 8 Key Game badges | Key Game sets in the NBA season | Team boosts | ✅ Still earnable |
The eight Key Game badges are Dime Droppers, Home Court Advantage, Road Heroes, King of the Hill, Helping Hand, Taking Over, Finishing Touch and Flame Throwers. Sioux Falls and Delaware are G League stops, and the Draft is Chapter 5, so all five story badges in the top half sit in content that Chapter 6 skips. Your path also decides which G League team you play for, so a single Chapter 1 run probably wouldn't land both of those anyway.
Why this matters less than it sounds: these badges boost your AI teammates in MyCAREER NBA games. They do nothing for your MyPLAYER's own badges in The City, the REC, Park or Crew HQ. If your build exists for online modes, skipping them costs you almost nothing.
2. Stars on the Fire & Concrete reward track
Each chapter grades you with up to three stars, and those stars feed the story's 40-level reward track. 2K confirms the 40 levels on the MyCAREER page. Star counts are community-reported. Starting at Chapter 6 means Chapters 1–5's stars aren't banked on that run. Many players report that stars from a second build still add to the same total. That's the whole basis of the "make a new build and replay from Chapter 6" method in our 3-star guide. Trackers put the Level 40 reward at 10,000 VC plus the Robot Snake Head cosmetic. If you already reached Level 40 on your first build, skipping costs you nothing here.
3. The VC and Season XP from the early games
Story games pay VC and Season XP like any other MyCAREER game, and the payout scales with difficulty and how well you play. Skip five chapters and you skip those paychecks too. The Season pass is shared across modes, though: 2K's site says to "Earn XP in The City, MyCAREER, and MyTEAM to unlock new Season rewards" (nba.2k.com). Any time you save by skipping can go into faster XP elsewhere. Our Season 2 leveling guide covers the quickest routes.
Do you still get Fire & Concrete rewards if you skip straight to the NBA?
Some, not all. That exact question is live on r/NBA2k this week. One player's answer: "Just the on court coach badge. Rest ya have to get from f and c. (You do keep mypoint boost if ya previously got it on a run through." Put that together with the badge table and you get the practical picture:
- You keep: anything account-wide (Season level, Lifetime Challenges, VC balance), your Rebirth tier if you made a Rebirth build, and, per player reports, the On-Court Coach badge and a MyPOINTS boost you'd already earned on an earlier run.
- You lose on that build: the five early Dynasty Badges, Chapters 1–5's stars, and the VC from those games.
- You keep earning: Chapters 6–11, Team Handles, the Key Game Dynasty Badges and everything after the story.
The On-Court Coach and MyPOINTS-boost carryover come from player reports, and 2K hasn't documented them. Check your badge list after the Chapter 6 intro before you count on either one.
Should you skip Fire & Concrete on a new build?
Use this decision tree:
- It's your first MyPLAYER ever → play from Chapter 1. You get the full story, all 15 Dynasty Badges in play, the early VC, and practice with the Update 2.0 shooting and contest changes before you jump into Rec. Our Fire & Concrete walkthrough covers the drills that hold people up.
- It's a second build, a Rebirth or a GOAT Build for The City/Rec → start at Chapter 6. You save several hours, and the Dynasty Badges you give up only help AI teammates. This is the most common Season 2 case, now that the 18 GOAT Builds have people creating new MyPLAYERs again.
- You're chasing Fire & Concrete Level 40 and aren't there yet → replay at least part of the story. Chapter 1 gives you the most stars. Chapter 6 still banks the later chapters' stars toward the total, per community reports.
- You play offline MyCAREER for the NBA seasons → play from Chapter 1. Championship Mindset (+ All Attributes for teammates) and Up and Coming (+ Potential Boost) are the badges that actually change your AI team.
- You don't want a modern story at all → pick MyCAREER Eras. It has its own 40-level reward track and five eras. See our MyCAREER Eras guide.
How long does it take to finish Fire & Concrete?
2K doesn't publish a playtime. RealSport101 estimates 3–8 hours just to reach the NBA chapters, depending on how you play. One r/NBA2k player put the full story at "About 12 hours if you play on 5 min quarters." Quarter length and difficulty matter most. Players regularly report that dropping difficulty makes the drills and objectives much less painful, but lower difficulty also pays less VC per game. Our chapters breakdown covers what each stretch involves.
Can you skip the story in co-op?
Your Running Mate, Trace Miller, is part of Fire & Concrete, and co-op only opens once he joins your story in the G League (GameDaily). RealSport101 notes that you can't remove Trace from the modern story. Starting at Chapter 6 skips the G League scenes where you meet him, so if co-op is the reason you're making a new build, check that Trace is on your roster after the Chapter 6 intro before you plan sessions with a friend. Our co-op MyCAREER guide explains how the mode works.
FAQ
Can you skip Fire & Concrete in NBA 2K27? Partly. When you start a new MyCAREER, choose Chapter 6: Beginnings to skip Chapters 1–5 (high school, Rucker Park, the G League and the Draft). Choose MyCAREER Eras to avoid the modern story completely.
Can you skip Fire & Concrete after you've already started it? No. Once you've started from Chapter 1, that save has no skip-forward option, and you can't sim the G League games one at a time. You'd need a new MyPLAYER and then pick Chapter 6.
Do you still get Fire & Concrete rewards if you skip to the NBA? Partly. You keep account-wide progress and can still earn Chapters 6–11 rewards, Team Handles and the eight Key Game Dynasty Badges. You lose the five early Dynasty Badges and Chapters 1–5's stars and VC on that build. Players report you still get the On-Court Coach badge.
What are Dynasty Badges in NBA 2K27? They're 15 MyCAREER badges that boost your teammates, not your MyPLAYER. Some come from Fire & Concrete chapters and the rest from Key Game sets during your NBA seasons. You can view them under MyCAREER → Progression → Dynasty Badges.
Should I skip Fire & Concrete on a GOAT Build or Rebirth? If the build is for The City, Rec or Park, usually yes. Chapter 6 saves hours, and the badges you skip only help AI teammates. Play from Chapter 1 if you still need stars for the Fire & Concrete Level 40 reward.
Does skipping Fire & Concrete affect my Season level? No. Season XP is shared across The City, MyCAREER and MyTEAM, so you can earn it in any mode. Skipping only removes the XP those early story games would have paid.
