The Queen and the Matriarch are the two scariest ARC machines you can run into topside in ARC Raiders — and they are also the single best source of legendary crafting materials in the game. Killing one isn't really the goal; farming its legs for Queen Cores and reactors, then extracting alive, is. Most Raiders who lose a kit to these bosses do it because they bring the wrong guns, shoot the wrong spot, or get ratted in the last ten seconds before extract. This guide covers exactly where the Queen spawns, the precise weak points on both bosses, the best weapons to break their armor, the fastest leg-farm loop for cores, and how to survive the extract afterward.
Below we break down each boss separately, then give you the exact loadout and farming routine that turns a death sentence into a payday.
Why the Queen & Matriarch matter in ARC Raiders
These two bosses sit at the top of the ARC food chain, and they're the gatekeepers to your best gear. When you destroy the Queen's legs, they drop Queen Cores — the crafting materials that, combined with Queen Blueprints, build legendary and energy-tier weapons you cannot make any other way. On top of that, the Queen drops high-value materials like ARC Alloy, Advanced Powercells, and the rare Queen Reactor, a legendary material worth roughly 13,000 Credits each (values fluctuate with the trader rotation). The Matriarch — the Queen's colossal evolved form — drops the same tier of loot in bigger numbers and is tied to the "Damage Queens or Matriarchs" Trial in Season 4.
That's why the subreddit is full of players grinding hundreds of these fights to fill their stash value. The catch: the core drop rate was nerfed after launch, so a clean farm means more runs, and every run is a magnet for extraction rats waiting to steal your cores at the hatch. Doing it efficiently — right weapons, right weak points, fast extract — is the whole game.

The Queen: spawn, weak points & the core-farm loop
Where the Queen spawns
The Queen only spawns near a Harvester during a Harvester Event. On the map, look for a Harvester marker with a small link icon next to it — that's your signal she's active. She can appear on Dam Battlegrounds, Blue Gate, or The Spaceport, but she's always guarding the Harvester, so push toward that objective once you see the icon. No Harvester event, no Queen — don't waste a run hunting her on a quiet map.
Weak points (shoot here, nothing else)
The Queen is armored almost everywhere, so wasting ammo on her body is how kits die. Hit only:
- Leg joints ("knees"). These are her primary weakness and the source of your loot. Focus fire one leg at a time.
- Head Core. After you break a leg, her Head Core drops into view and becomes vulnerable. It's also briefly exposed when she charges her laser beam — her faceplate glows, giving you a short window to dump burst damage into the core for massive damage.

The leg-farm loop (the actual goal)
Here's the key mindset shift most new Raiders miss: you do not need to fully kill the Queen. The efficient play is:
- Shoot off a leg with an armor-breaking weapon.
- Loot the Queen Core / reactor parts that drop from the destroyed leg.
- Extract immediately before another squad or a rat collects your reward.
This bypasses the need for a heavy, expensive "finish the boss" loadout — you get the materials and leave. If you're geared and teamed up, you can keep stripping legs for more cores, but the smart solo farm is one or two legs, grab, go.
Best weapons vs the Queen
- Bettina — excellent single-target DPS; shreds leg armor fast. The community boss-killer of choice for legs.
- Anvil (upgraded to Lv4) — long-range, armor-piercing, with a strong weak-point damage multiplier. The most versatile pick.
- Jupiter — endgame energy sniper with almost no damage falloff; pierces armor to tag the core from a safe distance.
Attacks to respect
The Queen isn't passive while you chip her legs. Her standout threat is the laser sweep — she charges (faceplate glows), then fires a beam that will melt you if you're standing in the open. Treat the charge as your cue to break line of sight behind a wreck or building, then peek back out to punish the exposed core. She also stomps and can knock you back if you hug her legs, so don't brawl in melee range — chip from cover at a slight distance. Because she's tethered to the Harvester, you can reset the engagement by backing off, healing, and re-approaching; there's no rush, and a patient leg-strip beats a greedy facetank every time.
The Matriarch: ~35,000 HP and a small army
The Matriarch is the Queen's colossal evolved form — it literally dwarfs the Queen — with around 35,000 HP, energy shields, and missile swarms. The reason it's so dangerous isn't just the health bar: it summons a constant stream of other ARC enemies — Bastions, Leapers, Bombardiers, Rocketeers, Hornets, Wasps and Ticks — so you're never fighting it alone.

Weak points
- Core — a huge red spherical reactor kept inside the main body. You must crack the armor plating around it first before you can damage it. This is the kill spot.
- Leg joints — same as the Queen; breaking legs opens it up and drops loot.
- Faceplate — a secondary weak spot worth hitting when exposed.
How to fight it
- Break the armor, then swap. Use the Hullcracker grenade launcher to blow the armor plating off, then switch to the Anvil (or Bettina) to pour damage into the exposed core and joints.
- Fight from above and from range. Climb high ground — the towers at the Spaceport are ideal — so you're out of reach of most of the summoned adds and the missile swarms. The Matriarch is a long-range fight, not a brawl.
- Bring a squad. Realistically this is a 3–4 player fight, everyone similarly kitted, with someone managing the summoned enemies while the rest focus the core.
Best weapons vs the Matriarch
- Hullcracker — grenade launcher; the fastest way to strip armor plating off the core.
- Anvil (Lv4) — armor-piercing precision damage into exposed weak points.
- Bettina — high single-target DPS for melting leg armor.
- Jupiter — long-range core damage from safety. Note Hullcracker and Jupiter are anti-ARC specialists with limited PvP use — bring a sidearm for Raiders.
Best boss loadout (quick reference)
| Slot | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Primary (armor break) | Hullcracker | Strips Matriarch/Queen armor plating fast |
| Primary (DPS) | Bettina | Best single-target DPS for legs |
| Versatile / weak-point | Anvil (Lv4) | Long-range, armor-piercing, weak-point multiplier |
| Long range | Jupiter | Pierces to the core, almost no falloff |
| Strip thrusters/armor | Equalizer | Fast armor stripping at closer range |
| Shield | Medium/Heavy | Survive missile swarms and summoned adds |
Don't over-invest in a "finish the boss" kit for solo farming — for the Queen, a single armor-breaker plus a fast extract beats a full legendary loadout you might lose to a rat.
Solo vs team & the rat problem
Solo Queen farming is brutal but doable if you stick to the leg-and-leave loop: strip one leg, grab the core, sprint to extract. The real threat usually isn't the boss — it's the other Raiders camping the Harvester and the extraction points specifically to steal your cores ("rats"). Mitigate it:
- Carry a Raider Hatch Key so you can extract from a quieter manhole instead of a contested point. Buy from Shani (Security) in Speranza, find one in a Raider Stash, or craft one.
- Don't greed. Once you have a couple of cores, the math says extract — a banked core beats a dead body holding six.
- Use your safe pocket / a safe-pocket augment so even a bad fight doesn't lose your best pull.
If you'd rather skip the rat-infested grind entirely, this is exactly the gap our store fills.
Common mistakes that delete your kit
- Shooting the body, not the legs. The Queen and Matriarch are bullet sponges everywhere except their joints and core. If your damage numbers look tiny, you're hitting armor — reposition for a clean leg-joint line.
- Bringing only anti-ARC guns. Hullcracker and Jupiter shred machines but are weak against other Raiders. Carry a reliable sidearm or AR so a rat can't third-party you the moment your core drops.
- Going in solo for the Matriarch. With ~35,000 HP and a constant stream of summoned Bastions and Leapers, a solo Matriarch attempt usually ends with you overwhelmed. Bring a squad, or stick to the Queen for solo farming.
- Fighting at ground level. Staying low puts you in range of every add and the missile swarms. Get on a tower or elevated ruin and force the fight to your terms.
- Greeding the kill. You don't get extra rewards for the killing blow on the Queen — the cores drop from her legs. Grab them and extract; a banked core beats a heroic death.
