ARC Raiders Jupiter Amplification: All 3 Nodes & Setup

Amplifying your Jupiter is a one-way door. The Frozen Trail 2.0 update made the Jupiter — ARC Raiders' hardest-hitting per-shot legendary — one of 15 weapons you can push to the new fifth "Amplified" tier, and the upgrades you research and apply are permanent. The good news: the Jupiter's three amplification upgrades are not an either/or — they stack on the same gun. The real question is which one to research first. This guide lists all three Jupiter amplification upgrades with their real effects, the exact bench chain that unlocks them, and the order that gets the most out of your early modules.

Quick answer (TL;DR): The Jupiter has three amplification upgrades — Bigger Mag (+5 magazine, taking it from 5 to 10 rounds), Scoped, and Straight Bolt (shown in-game with an "ergonomic bolt" description). They can all be applied to the same Jupiter, so this is a priority question, not a one-pick lockout. To amplify it you must unlock the Outpost and raise both the Gunsmith and the Research Station to Level 4, then amplify the Jupiter with one rarity-matched Amplification Module (the Mk. V module is the match for Legendary weapons) — that unlocks its upgrade tree. From there you research and apply the individual upgrades. Amplification is permanent and cannot be reverted. Research Scoped first for most players: it converts the Jupiter into a true long-range scoped rifle without touching its armor-piercing shot.

What Jupiter amplification is

Weapon Amplification shipped with Frozen Trail 2.0 (console package 1.000.061) and Embark officially calls it a new fifth weapon tier. That "fifth tier" is a separate axis from the Common→Legendary rarity ladder: amplification applies on top of a weapon's existing rarity, including Legendary weapons like the Jupiter. The Amplification Modules you spend come in marks (Mk. I–V); the Mk. V module is the one that unlocks amplification on Legendary weapons. For a crafted legendary like the Jupiter, amplification is the only way to push it past its base stats.

As the ARC Raiders Wiki describes it, the Jupiter is "a bolt-action sniper rifle with exceptional damage output and accuracy, but slow handling" — and that slow handling is exactly what two of its three amplification upgrades address.

The Jupiter is a bolt-action Sniper Rifle that uses Energy Clips. It deals roughly 55–60 base damage (Dexerto's weapon database lists 55; the ARC Raiders Wiki lists 60), carries a listed fire-rate stat of 7.67, holds a 5-round magazine, weighs 9.0 kg, and sells for 27,500 coins. Its signature trait is that its projectiles are nearly instant, ignore bullet drop, and penetrate ARC armor to damage everything in their path — including weak spots like a Bastion's core. That is the reason the amplification order matters: you are tuning one of the game's premier long-range anti-ARC guns, not a throwaway.

Amplification does not replace your base loadout thinking — it stacks on top of it. If you have not settled which weapons you carry into Pendola Pass yet, read the best ARC Raiders loadout breakdown first, then amplify the gun you already trust.

All 3 Jupiter amplification upgrades

The Jupiter has three amplification upgrades at the research bench. They are not mutually exclusive — you can research and apply all three to the same Jupiter over time. Each one is permanent once applied, so the choice that matters is the order you unlock them in. Here is every upgrade and what it actually does:

UpgradeWhat it doesResearch priority
Bigger Mag+5 magazine capacity, taking the stock 5 rounds to 10Low — the Jupiter kills with single armor-piercing shots, not volume
ScopedAdds a scope for a true ADS magnified view (researched under Top Mounted Optics Retrofittings)High — this is the first upgrade most Raiders want
Straight BoltLets you cycle the bolt while still scoped (its in-game description calls it an ergonomic bolt; it sits under the Action Economy research)Medium — pairs with Scoped for faster follow-ups

Two housekeeping notes that apply to every amplifiable weapon, the Jupiter included:

  • Amplified Durability is a shared baseline — amplified weapons carry a higher maximum durability than their un-amplified version.
  • Amplified weapons behave differently on death. Upon death, the amplified weapon drops to 10% durability, and you can only repair it if you have already researched the required modules; the repair consumes Amplified Fragments (obtained by recycling the retired Anvil Splitter mod, per the patch notes). An amplified Jupiter is a bigger loss if you lose it, so treat it like the legendary it is.

Which Jupiter upgrade should you research first?

Because all three stack, this is a sequencing call, not a sacrifice. Modules are scarce early, so spend your first one where it changes the gun the most.

Research Scoped first. The Jupiter already hits harder than anything else per shot and punches through armor; the one thing a bolt-action energy sniper lacks at the ranges it wants to fight is a true magnified optic. Scoped turns it into a dedicated long-range anti-ARC rifle — the role the community most often hands it. Of the three upgrades it delivers the biggest single jump in how the gun plays.

Straight Bolt second. Once you are fighting scoped-in, the slow bolt-cycle can break your sight picture between shots; Straight Bolt lets you chamber the next round without leaving ADS. That re-acquisition speed is most valuable after Scoped is on the gun, which is why it reads as the follow-up upgrade rather than the opener. In PvP, where follow-up speed matters more than against ARC, you can reasonably move it up.

Bigger Mag last for a pure anti-ARC sniper. The Jupiter's value is one perfect armor-piercing shot per target, not sustained volume — most smaller ARC die to a single core shot, so going from 5 to 10 rounds rarely changes the outcome of an engagement. It climbs your list only if you specifically fight prolonged, multi-target ARC waves (Frigate rooms, boss adds) and keep running dry.

A useful way to read the three: Scoped improves what the Jupiter is already best at (connecting a precise shot at range), Straight Bolt improves how fast you can repeat that, and Bigger Mag improves how long you can keep doing it. Since the gun's identity is the single armor-piercing shot, the upgrade that raises hit quality (Scoped) is the one to unlock first — then stack the other two as modules allow.

Jupiter vs the other energy legendaries

Amplification does not change where the Jupiter sits in the legendary energy tier, so it helps to know what you are investing in. The Jupiter, Equalizer and Aphelion are the three crafted energy legendaries, and they do not overlap cleanly:

  • Jupiter — the long-range specialist. Very little damage falloff, armor-piercing projectiles that pierce multiple targets and reach weak spots. It is the one to amplify for long-range ARC work. Crafted from a Queen Reactor.
  • Equalizer — also uses a Queen Reactor (the reactor builds either gun, not both from one), tuned more toward sustained energy output than single-shot punch.
  • Aphelion — crafted from a Matriarch Reactor, generally favoured in closer engagements; at the long ranges where the Jupiter wants to fight, most players still reach for the Jupiter.

If you only ever amplify one energy legendary for anti-ARC, the Jupiter is a strong target, and Scoped is the upgrade to research first.

How to unlock Jupiter amplification

Amplification is gated behind an upgraded Outpost, not a quest. The chain is the same for every weapon:

  • Unlock the Outpost. Amplification research lives at your personal Outpost, so the Outpost itself has to be built first.
  • Raise the Gunsmith to Level 4.
  • Raise the Research Station to Level 4. Both benches must hit tier 4 before amplification becomes available.
  • Amplify the Jupiter. At the Gunsmith's Weapon Upgrades tab, amplify the gun using one Amplification Module matching its rarity — for a Legendary like the Jupiter that is the Mk. V module. This is what pushes the weapon to the Amplified tier and opens its upgrade tree.
  • Research and apply the individual upgrades. With the tree open, research the upgrades you want (Scoped, Straight Bolt, Bigger Mag) at the Research Station and apply them to the Jupiter. These cost their own research and materials; the Mk. V module is what amplifies the gun in the first place, not a repeated per-upgrade toll.

That Research Station Level 4 requirement is the real wall. If you want to skip the Outpost research grind that gates the whole system, the Outpost Research Boost pushes your research tier up fast, and Frozen Trail Runs farm the Pendola Pass materials and ARC components the research projects keep demanding.

Where the modules come from

Amplifying the Jupiter needs a Legendary-rarity module — the Amplification Module Mk. V. Amplification Modules come in marks (Mk. I–V) and drop from a narrow set of endgame sources; the Mk. V in particular comes from the Fallen Emperor and the ARC Frigate on Pendola Pass. The full farming loop, including where each mark comes from, is covered in the Amplification Module farm guide. The related epic crafting materials that the broader amplification endgame eats are mapped in the Pneumatic Actuator and Pressure Regulator farm.

Getting a Jupiter to amplify in the first place

You cannot amplify a Jupiter you do not own. There are two main routes to one. The usual route is crafting: at Gunsmith Level 3 the recipe is 3× Magnetic Accelerator + 3× Complex Gun Parts + 1× Queen Reactor, plus a learned Jupiter Blueprint (the blueprint comes from a Harvester puzzle reward). The shortcut is the Trophy Display project, which awards a finished Jupiter outright on completion — no crafting required.

In practice the amplification project usually starts two steps back: get a Queen Reactor, learn the blueprint, craft the Jupiter, then amplify it (or skip straight to the gun via the Trophy Display). If the Queen kill is the bottleneck, ARC Operation Carry and Frozen Trail Boss Kill handle the boss while the loot stays yours. For the material and reactor side, the Queen and Matriarch Reactor guide breaks down the full drop and recipe chain.

FAQ

How many amplification upgrades does the Jupiter have? Three: Bigger Mag, Scoped, and Straight Bolt. They are not mutually exclusive — you can research and apply all three to the same Jupiter, and each application is permanent.

Can you put more than one amplification on a Jupiter? Yes. The three upgrades stack on one weapon. You spend one rarity-matched Amplification Module to amplify the gun and open its tree, then research and apply the individual upgrades from there.

Is the Jupiter amplification permanent? Yes. Weapon Amplification on any weapon, the Jupiter included, cannot be reverted, so every upgrade you apply is a permanent commitment.

Which Jupiter amplification should you research first? Scoped for most players — it gives the Jupiter a true magnified optic and leans into its long-range armor-piercing role. Straight Bolt is the natural second for faster follow-ups; Bigger Mag is the lowest priority for a pure anti-ARC sniper.

How do you unlock weapon amplification in ARC Raiders? Unlock the Outpost, then raise both the Gunsmith and the Research Station to Level 4. After that you research each upgrade individually and apply it at the Gunsmith's Weapon Upgrades tab with an Amplification Module matching the weapon's rarity.

What do you need to amplify a Jupiter? A Jupiter, a Level 4 Gunsmith and Research Station, and one rarity-matched Amplification Module — the Mk. V module for a Legendary weapon like the Jupiter. That module amplifies the gun and opens its upgrade tree; the individual upgrades are then researched and applied.
