Battlefield 6 Attachments Not Unlocking: Missing Grips, Scopes and Suppressors in Update 1.4.3.0

Open your loadout after today's update and there is a decent chance something is wrong with it. Grips that were on the gun yesterday are gone. A suppressor you definitely unlocked reads as locked. A scope you never chose is sitting in the optic slot. Across the Battlefield subreddits, the same three words keep appearing within hours of the patch: missing, mismatched, locked.

Almost none of it is lost progress. Battlefield 6 runs three separate progression currencies with an attachment budget on top, and Update 1.4.3.0 added a presentation pass that changed how several of those things look. Nearly every "my attachments are gone" report resolves to one of five specific causes — and EA has already named the patch that fixes one of them. This guide covers the game as of Game Update 1.4.3.0, live September 15, 2026 alongside Season 4: Tidal Strike.

Quick answer: Your attachments are almost certainly not deleted. Five things cause this. One is a display bug EA patched in 1.4.3.0 itself (attachments vanishing from Loadouts after you view their Challenge unlock requirements). One is a PlayStation 5 scope-border bug EA has acknowledged and is aiming to fix in Update 1.4.3.5. The other three are not bugs: you hit the Career Rank but not the weapon's Hardware Rank, you ran out of Attachment Points, or the attachment is challenge-locked rather than rank-locked. Restarting the game clears most of the stale-state cases; on console, refreshing your licences is a widely reported community fix that EA has not published. Nothing here needs a reinstall.

Why are my Battlefield 6 attachments missing after Update 1.4.3.0?

Update 1.4.3.0 went up for download at 08:00 UTC on September 15, with Tidal Strike content switching on at 12:00 UTC, per EA's official update notes. One of its headline pillars is explicitly about weapon presentation: "Gunplay and Readability: Weapon reticles, optics, attachment presentation, and a range of weapon-specific issues have been updated to improve clarity and consistency."

That is the root of most of today's confusion — a readability pass changes what your gun looks like without changing what you own. Here is how the five causes separate:

Did Update 1.4.3.0 actually break attachments?

Partly — and EA fixed one case inside the same patch. Buried in the UI and HUD section of the changelog: "Corrected an issue where Hardware attachments could disappear from Loadouts after viewing their Challenge unlock requirements."

That is exactly what many players are describing. Opening an attachment to check what challenge unlocks it could drop it out of the loadout you had built, so anyone on a pre-1.4.3.0 client who inspected locked attachments may have lived with that bug for weeks. The same update shipped "Fixed attachment indicator alignment issues across several weapons," which is why some icons have moved in the menu.

Several weapon-specific presentation fixes landed alongside it, each of which produced its own wave of "my gun is broken" reports:

  • The BROD 3 handguard was missing its icon entirely, and lasers did not move correctly with the short and extended handguards.
  • The canted iron sight icon on the EF88 was misplaced.
  • Weapon stats were not updating correctly for the EF88, BROD and VSSM.
  • The weights of the long and lightened suppressors on the L115 were swapped.
  • Vertical Grips on the RPKM and RPK-74M had an offset hand position when a laser or light was equipped.

One more pattern deserves an honest flag: players report that changing an attachment on one build of a weapon appears to change it across every build of that gun in-match, while the menu keeps showing the original setup. That is not in EA's changelog and has not been acknowledged — treat it as an unconfirmed community report, and check multi-build weapons in the Firing Range rather than trusting the menu.

Why can't I equip an attachment when my weapon mastery is high enough?

This is the single most common false alarm in Battlefield 6, and it is not a bug at all. It is the Career XP versus Hardware XP split.

Battlefield 6 runs three parallel XP tracks, as set out on EA's progression page. Career XP raises your account's Career Rank and unlocks functional hardware — the base weapons themselves — through Career Rank 50. Hardware XP is earned per weapon and per vehicle, and it is Hardware XP that unlocks that weapon's attachments, Weapon Packages and camos. Battle Pass XP is a third track earned 1:1 alongside Career XP.

So a Career Rank 40 player picking up a freshly unlocked rifle has a Hardware Rank of zero on it. Every attachment on that gun is locked, and no amount of account level changes that. Holding a weapon earns a small passive trickle of Hardware XP; kills and assists with it earn considerably more, which is why carrying a gun you never fire barely moves the bar.

Hardware Rank milestones show as badges: Bronze at Rank 10, Silver at 20, Gold at 30, Platinum at 40 and Elite at 50. Those tiers are the honest yardstick for how far you have to go on a given gun — not your Career Rank. We covered the account-level picture, including why neither 50 nor 100 is really the ceiling, in our Battlefield 6 max level guide.

One useful detail: EA cut Hardware XP requirements for weapons and vehicles back in Season 2, stating that primary weapon attachments unlock roughly 50% faster than before that pass. Guides written at launch describing the old grind are out of date.

Why did my scopes and red dots change overnight?

Because EA redrew all of them, deliberately. The 1.4.3.0 notes state that reticles were overhauled "across all weapon optics, launchers, and gadgets to deliver cleaner visuals, reduced clutter, and improved readability against any background," with "a more pronounced glow, crisper lines and optimized overall sizing of the center dots/reticles."

If your holographic sight looks thinner, brighter or differently proportioned this morning, that is the intended new art, not a corrupted attachment — though the loudest threads today argue the illuminated reticles are now harder to pick out against bright backgrounds on low-magnification optics.

One change is genuinely a bug, and EA said so in the notes themselves:

"We're aware of a bug that causes some scopes to come with overly thick black borders on PlayStation 5. We're aiming to have this resolved with the 1.4.3.5 update, arriving in a few weeks."

That is PlayStation 5 specific — Xbox players posting side-by-side screenshots today are seeing normal optic borders, which matches EA's scoping. If a mid-magnification sight now has a heavy black ring eating the edges of your view on PS5, you are not misconfigured. Swap optics and wait for 1.4.3.5.

One new setting is also worth knowing before you conclude your zoom is broken. Update 1.4.3.0 added an option to turn off Picture-in-Picture zoom, which switches optics to full-screen field of view instead of combining FOV with extra magnification inside the sight. EA is explicit that this does not change total magnification. If the sight picture feels unfamiliar but ranges still read correctly, this setting is the likely culprit.

Why does my attachment show as unlocked but still won't fit?

Because attachments are not free. Each one costs Attachment Points from a per-weapon budget, and the costs differ from item to item. Once the budget is spent, further attachments will not go on — and the interface does not always make it obvious that cost is blocking you rather than ownership.

EA has never published a full price list, but it does print individual values in the patch notes whenever one changes, and those entries show the spread:

AttachmentCost in pointsSource
L115 iron sight15Raised from 5 in Update 1.3.3.0
Interdictor iron sight15Set in Update 1.4.3.0
RPK-74M Ballistic Tip20Set in Update 1.3.3.0

Everything else you have to read off the weapon itself in the customisation screen, which is exactly why players misread a budget problem as a locked attachment.

Note the Interdictor entry — brand new in today's patch, part of a rebalance that also raised the weapon's minimum damage from 62 to 80 and normalised damage across limbs and chest. An Interdictor build that fit yesterday may have been pushed over budget overnight by a 15-point iron sight, which reads in the menu as an attachment refusing to equip.

Points are also why a "best loadout" copied from a video may not assemble on your account. Which weapons are reachable by Career Rank, and which hide behind assignments, is covered in our Battlefield 6 best weapons tier list.

How do I fix Battlefield 6 attachments that won't unlock?

Work through these in order. The first three cost nothing and resolve most cases.

  • Fully restart the game. Not back to the menu — close the application and relaunch. This clears stale loadout state left by the pre-patch client, and it is the step most often reported as working.
  • On console, refresh your licences. Players hitting the "mastery level reached but attachment inaccessible" case report that a restart plus a licence restore from account settings clears it immediately. Community-reported rather than EA-published, but free, and the standard remedy for entitlement desync.
  • Check the weapon's Hardware Rank, not your Career Rank. Open the weapon and read its own progression bar. If the attachment sits above your Hardware Rank on that gun, nothing is broken.
  • Count Attachment Points before blaming ownership. Strip the build back to the bare weapon and add attachments one at a time. If the blocked item goes on to an empty gun, it was budget, not a lock.
  • Read the unlock requirement instead of assuming it is rank-based. Plenty of Battlefield 6 content is assignment-locked or tied to a Battle Pass path. Update 1.4.3.0 added new seasonal hardware assignments for Season 4, so some requirements genuinely changed today.
  • Verify in the Firing Range, then stop troubleshooting PS5 scope borders. The range is the cheapest way to confirm what is actually bolted to your gun; the black-border issue is already acknowledged and targeted at 1.4.3.5.

How long does it take to unlock every attachment on a weapon?

Here the honest answer diverges from the convenient one. Because attachments are gated behind per-weapon Hardware XP, a full attachment set is not one grind — it is one grind per gun. Rank a weapon to Hardware Rank 50 and you have its Elite badge, gilded Weapon Package and full attachment list, while the rifle beside it is still at zero. That is real time per weapon even after the Season 2 reductions, and it is why "just play more" lands badly on players who want a specific build working this season — especially with the Deep Six Collection Event stacking time-limited rewards from September 15 to October 12.

Want the attachments without the per-weapon grind? Weapon leveling raises the Hardware Rank on the specific guns you actually play, which is the track that unlocks attachments, packages and camos. Career Rank and account leveling handle the separate account-level track that unlocks the base weapons in the first place.

FAQ

Did Update 1.4.3.0 delete my attachments? No. Nothing in EA's changelog removes owned attachments and there is no progression wipe in this patch. The update actually fixed a bug where Hardware attachments could disappear from Loadouts after viewing their Challenge unlock requirements — a loadout-state issue, not lost entitlement. A restart restores the correct state in almost every reported case.

Why does Battlefield 6 say I haven't unlocked an attachment when my weapon mastery is high? You are reading the wrong number. Attachments unlock from that individual weapon's Hardware Rank, not your account's Career Rank. A high Career Rank on a brand-new gun still means every attachment is locked. Read the weapon's own progression bar: badge tiers are Bronze at 10, Silver at 20, Gold at 30, Platinum at 40 and Elite at 50.

How do I fix the thick black border around my scope? You cannot, yet. EA acknowledged it in the 1.4.3.0 notes as a PlayStation 5 bug and said it is aiming to resolve it with Update 1.4.3.5, "arriving in a few weeks." Until then the workaround is a different optic. Xbox and PC players are not reporting the same borders.

My attachment is unlocked but the game won't let me equip it. Why? You have most likely run out of Attachment Points. Costs are not uniform: EA raised the L115 iron sight from 5 to 15 points in Update 1.3.3.0 and set the RPK-74M Ballistic Tip at 20. Update 1.4.3.0 set the Interdictor's iron sight to 15 points, so an Interdictor build that fit yesterday may not fit today.

Will reinstalling Battlefield 6 fix missing attachments? Almost never, and it is the most expensive thing you can try. Every documented cause here is a client-state issue cleared by a restart, an entitlement refresh, a progression gate, or an acknowledged bug with a scheduled fix. Exhaust the checklist first.

The bottom line

Battlefield 6 did not take your attachments away on September 15. It shipped a readability pass that changed how optics and icons look, fixed a loadout bug that had been quietly dropping attachments from saved builds, and introduced one confirmed PlayStation 5 scope issue already targeted at Update 1.4.3.5. Everything else in the "missing attachments" pile is progression design working as intended — specifically the split that catches more Battlefield 6 players than any other mechanic: your account level and your weapon level are different numbers, and only one of them unlocks attachments. Restart first, read the weapon's own Hardware Rank second, count your Attachment Points third.
