Applies to: Battlefield 6 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, on Game Update 1.4.3.0 (dated September 14, 2026, live September 15) during Season 4: Tidal Strike. All ballistics below come from the last full balance overhaul, Game Update 1.3.3.0, plus the Interdictor rework shipped in 1.4.3.0.
Most "best sniper in Battlefield 6" lists are vibes rankings. EA publishes the numbers that settle the argument, but they sit in two patch notes and one catalogue article that was quietly updated for Season 4. We cross-checked all three: the answer changes with the range you sit at, and EA's own pages contradict each other in two places.
Quick Answer
- Battlefield 6 has exactly six sniper rifles on EA's Season 4 weapon list: M2010 ESR, SV-98, PSR, Mini Scout, L115A3 and the Interdictor.
- Strongest right now, on EA's numbers: the Interdictor. After 1.4.3.0 it deals 80 damage to chest and limbs at every range, so a two-hit body kill no longer depends on distance. It is locked behind a Season 4 event, so it is temporary.
- Best permanent bolt-action: the L115A3. It carries the widest sweet spot band left in the class at 100m to 133m, a 33m window.
- Fastest bullet in the class is free. The default-unlocked M2010 ESR and the Mini Scout both sit at 760 m/s, ahead of the PSR and SV-98 at 680 m/s and the L115 at 664 m/s.
- Update 1.3.3.0 cut every bolt-action sweet spot by roughly 41%. That is the single biggest reason sniping feels harder than it did at launch.
- Update 1.4.3.0 overhauled every reticle and added a Picture-in-Picture zoom toggle, but EA's notes never mention zeroing or a rangefinder.
How Many Sniper Rifles Are in Battlefield 6?
Six. EA's Loadout Creation and Weapon Classes page, which carries a "Recently Updated for Season 4" tag, lists the full roster with its unlock route attached. EA frames the class like this: "One of two weapon categories capable of one-shot confirmed kills outside of Hardcore modes so long as it's a headshot, the Sniper Rifle is the true marksman's preferred long-range tool in either a bolt-action or semi-automatic format."
| Sniper rifle | Unlock route | Cartridge or note |
|---|---|---|
| M2010 ESR | Default Unlocked | Available from your first match |
| SV-98 | Career Rank 26 | Legacy 7.62x54mmR |
| PSR | Assignment DEADEYE 2 | 8.6x70mm, lower effective fire rate |
| Mini Scout | Season 1 Catch-Up Challenge (originally Battle Pass) | Reduced damage, rapid follow-up shots |
| L115A3 | Season 3 Catch-Up Challenge (originally Battle Pass) | Magnum-class bolt-action |
| Interdictor | Season 4 Event | 10.4x83mm |
That pattern is the whole story of the class: only one of the six sits behind a Career Rank. Everything else is an Assignment, a Catch-Up Challenge or a limited-time event. You cannot passively level into the good snipers the way you can with LMGs, where five of nine are rank unlocks.
Worth saying plainly too: the MRAD is not on this list. It is absent from the Season 4 catalogue page, and a text search of Game Update 1.3.3.0 and 1.4.3.0 returns zero mentions of it. Any guide ranking the MRAD as a Battlefield 6 sniper is not reading EA's current pages.
What Did Update 1.3.3.0 Do to Sniper Sweet Spots?
This is the change that reset the class, and almost nobody quotes the actual size of it. EA's own framing in the 1.3.3.0 notes: "Bolt-Action Rifle sweet spot ranges have been narrowed, requiring more intentional positioning by the shooter and making it easier for targets to traverse."
Here is what "narrowed" means in metres.
| Rifle | Old sweet spot | New sweet spot | Old band | New band | Band change |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| L115 | 120-175m | 100-133m | 55m | 33m | -40.0% |
| M2010 ESR | 75-120m | 75-100m | 45m | 25m | -44.4% |
| PSR | 100-150m | 90-120m | 50m | 30m | -40.0% |
| SV-98 | 54-90m | 54-75m | 36m | 21m | -41.7% |
Add it up and the class lost 77m of combined sweet spot depth out of 186m, a 41.4% reduction across the four bolt-actions. The Mini Scout was not part of that pass.
Two things fall straight out of that table. The L115 still owns the deepest window, 33m against the M2010 ESR's 25m. And the bands barely overlap any more: SV-98 tops out at 75m exactly where the M2010 ESR begins, PSR starts at 90m, L115 at 100m. You are no longer picking a favourite rifle, you are picking a lane on the map.
The same update made every bullet harder to land: "Bullet Drag has been increased by 40% across all weapons and by 100% when using Match Grade ammo."
Which Battlefield 6 Sniper Has the Fastest Bullet?
Muzzle velocity is the stat that decides how much you have to lead a moving target, and 1.3.3.0 cut it across almost the entire arsenal. The sniper numbers after that pass:
| Rifle | Muzzle velocity | Change in 1.3.3.0 |
|---|---|---|
| M2010 ESR | 760 m/s | from 800 m/s (-5.00%) |
| Mini Scout | 760 m/s | from 800 m/s (-5.00%) |
| PSR | 680 m/s | from 720 m/s (-5.56%) |
| SV-98 | 680 m/s | from 720 m/s (-5.56%) |
| L115 | 664 m/s | from 703 m/s (-5.55%) |
The inversion nobody mentions: the rifle with the best sweet spot has the worst velocity. The L115's 664 m/s is 12.6% slower than the free M2010 ESR's 760 m/s. Ignoring drag, which 1.3.3.0 raised by 40% so real travel is slower than this, a 300m shot takes about 395ms with the M2010 ESR and about 452ms with the L115. That 57ms gap is roughly the difference between hitting a sprinting player and watching the tracer pass behind them.
So the free rifle is not a placeholder. If you mostly shoot at movers on open maps, the M2010 ESR is the easier gun to hit with, and it costs nothing but the Hardware XP to attach it properly, which is the same logic behind our weapon unlocks and fastest levelling guide.
What Is the Best Sniper Rifle in Battlefield 6 Right Now?
Ranked on EA's published numbers, for Update 1.4.3.0:
1. Interdictor (Season 4 Event). The 1.4.3.0 rework made it the most forgiving sniper in the game: minimum damage 62 to 80, limb damage now matching chest damage, sweet spot moved to 120m-160m at 100 damage, and armour damage in REDSEC "increased to 100 regardless of hit location or distance". EA's dev comment spells out the intent: "The Interdictor's damage didn't always match its powerful feel, so we've increased its effectiveness and consistency. It now deals 80 damage to the chest and limbs at all ranges, making two-hit kills much more reliable and one-hit kills on damaged foes more common." Read that carefully. It is a reliable two-tap at any distance, not a body one-shot on a healthy target. It also lost the old "sweeter spot" mechanic, which EA says became "redundant", and its Iron Sight attachment now costs 15 points.
2. L115A3 (Season 3 Catch-Up Challenge). Widest remaining sweet spot at 100-133m and the most punishing at range, at the cost of the slowest bullet in the class. 1.4.3.0 swapped the weight values of its long and lightened suppressors, so re-check the build if you had it tuned for mobility.
3. PSR (Assignment DEADEYE 2). A 30m band at 90-120m and 680 m/s. EA flags the trade itself: "A precision rifle chambered in the powerful 8.6x70mm cartridge. Its lethality is offset by a lower effective fire rate." Best if you hold one lane and do not need a fast second shot.
4. M2010 ESR (Default Unlocked). Class-best velocity, shallowest and closest band at 75-100m. The right rifle for contested mid-range maps and for a new player. 1.4.3.0 also fixed its Match Grade ammo taking unintended damage reduction against opponents in water, which matters on Tidal Strike's naval maps.
5. Mini Scout (Season 1 Catch-Up Challenge). Tied for fastest bullet at 760 m/s, described by EA as a rifle that "offsets reduced damage by allowing rapid follow-up shots without having to break focus". It was not in the 1.3.3.0 sweet spot pass. An aggressive semi-sniper, not a lane-holder.
6. SV-98 (Career Rank 26). The only rank-gated sniper and the shallowest band in the class, 54-75m for 21m of depth. Not bad, just built for ranges where a DMR like the SVDM or an assault rifle beats you to the trigger.
Did Update 1.4.3.0 Change Sniper Scopes?
Yes, more than the patch title suggests. EA rebuilt optics presentation across the board: "In 1.4.3.0, we've overhauled reticles across all weapon optics, launchers, and gadgets to deliver cleaner visuals, reduced clutter, and improved readability against any background."
The three changes that matter to a sniper:
- Every reticle was redrawn for a stronger glow, crisper lines and resized centre dots, specifically against bright backgrounds. On a water-heavy Season 4 map that is a real buff.
- Picture-in-Picture zoom can be turned off. The toggle "does not change the total magnification scale but ensures the total zoom is only changing FOV".
- PlayStation 5 scope borders are a known bug, still not fixed. EA's dev comment: "We're aware of a bug that causes some scopes to come with overly thick black borders on PlayStation 5. We're aiming to have this resolved with the 1.4.3.5 update, arriving in a few weeks." No date, only that target.
Then the notable omission: EA's 1.4.3.0 notes never mention zeroing or a rangefinder. Neither does 1.3.3.0, and neither does the Season 4 weapon classes page. Players have reported since the update that the numeric Range Zero In readout stopped displaying on sniper scopes. Manual zeroing still works, it is the on-screen value that people say vanished, which makes it community-reported only with no acknowledgement and no fix target. If you are guessing, zero back to default and count your inputs rather than trusting the display.
Where EA's Own Pages Disagree
Two live contradictions we hit while cross-checking, both worth knowing before you build around a number:
- SV-98. The Season 4 catalogue page says it is "most effective between 45m-90m". Update 1.3.3.0's balance table sets the sweet spot to 54-75m.
- Interdictor. The catalogue says "Its lethality peaks between 120m and 150m". Update 1.4.3.0 says "Sweet spot range adjusted to 120m to 160m".
The rule we use: the catalogue page is authoritative for what exists and how it unlocks, the patch notes are authoritative for the numbers. That is how we settle the roster question in our full Battlefield 6 weapons tier list too.
How Do You Unlock the Best Snipers Fastest?
The awkward truth of this class is that the two rifles at the top are not on a rank track at all:
- Interdictor is tied to a Season 4 event, and that route closes when the season does.
- L115A3 and Mini Scout are Catch-Up Challenges for Seasons 3 and 1, so challenge work, not match time.
- PSR needs the DEADEYE 2 Assignment finished.
- Only the SV-98 falls out of ordinary play, at Career Rank 26.
Each rifle then has its own Hardware XP track for attachments and Weapon Packages, and EA has never published per-rank Hardware XP tables, so every "X kills to max" figure online is an estimate. If attachments are not appearing at all post-update, that is a separate known issue covered in attachments not unlocking on Update 1.4.3.0, and the challenge-side reset and reroll rules are in our challenges reset guide.
Event windows close and Catch-Up Challenges stack up. If you want the Interdictor before Season 4 ends, or the L115A3's Hardware track maxed without a fortnight of bolt-action grinding, our team plays on your account by hand, at your pace, and only charges for the progress you actually need.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best sniper rifle in Battlefield 6? On EA's published numbers for Update 1.4.3.0 the Interdictor is strongest, dealing 80 damage to chest and limbs at every range and 100 against armour in REDSEC regardless of hit location or distance. It is locked behind a Season 4 event, so the best permanent pick is the L115A3 and its 100m to 133m sweet spot, the widest band left in the class.
How many sniper rifles are in Battlefield 6? Six: M2010 ESR, SV-98, PSR, Mini Scout, L115A3 and Interdictor. The MRAD is not on EA's Season 4 weapon list and is not mentioned in either 1.3.3.0 or 1.4.3.0.
Which sniper rifle has the fastest bullet? The M2010 ESR and the Mini Scout, both at 760 m/s after 1.3.3.0. The PSR and SV-98 sit at 680 m/s and the L115 at 664 m/s, which is 12.6% slower than the M2010 ESR.
Why do snipers feel worse than at launch? Update 1.3.3.0 narrowed every bolt-action sweet spot, a 41.4% cut in combined band depth across the four rifles, and raised Bullet Drag by 40% across all weapons and 100% with Match Grade ammo. It also reduced sniper damage multipliers to the stomach and limbs from 0.8x to 0.67x, and to the chest against armour from 0.8x to 0.67x. Headshots were untouched at 1.75x.
Did the Range Zero In number get removed in Update 1.4.3.0? EA's 1.4.3.0 notes never mention zeroing or a rangefinder, so there is no official change and no acknowledged bug. The missing readout is community-reported only and manual zeroing still functions. The one optic issue EA has acknowledged is the overly thick black scope borders on PlayStation 5, targeted at Update 1.4.3.5.
Is the Interdictor a one-shot kill? Not on a healthy target outside its sweet spot. EA's dev comment describes the rework as "making two-hit kills much more reliable and one-hit kills on damaged foes more common", and its sweet spot damage was actually cut from 150 to 100 while the band moved to 120m-160m.
Which sniper should a new player use? The Default Unlocked M2010 ESR. It has the class-best muzzle velocity, so it needs the least lead on movers, and its 75-100m sweet spot sits at the range most Battlefield 6 infantry fights happen at.
