Accurate as of October 13, 2026 — Season 55 "Brawl-O-Ween" (Update 69, "Brawler Blast" progression). Brawl Stars rebalances every few weeks, so win rates and cooldowns shift with each patch.

Gadgets are the most under-optimized part of most players' loadouts. You get two per Brawler, you pick exactly one before every match, and the wrong pick quietly wastes a free ability every time it comes off cooldown. Heading into the Season 55 "Brawl-O-Ween" meta — with the September balance passes settled and Vince now live as the game's 108th Brawler — several "best gadget" answers have shifted again. This guide covers how Gadgets work in the current Update 69 "Brawler Blast" meta, the top Gadgets ranked by live win rate, and the single best Gadget pick for every meta Brawler.

Quick answer (TLDR): Every Brawler has two Gadgets, the slot unlocks at Power Level 7, and you equip exactly one before each match. Since the February 2025 rework, Gadgets are cooldown-based with unlimited uses per match — the old "three charges" cap is gone, so the recharge time (roughly 10–24 seconds depending on the Gadget) is what matters now. By live win rate across 1.95M battles on brawltime.ninja (season 2026-10-12), the strongest Gadgets right now belong to the top meta Brawlers: Cosmo's Planetary Pushback (77.5%) and Telescope Trap (77.3%), Wendy's Green Grenade (77.4%) and Wind-Powered (73.3%), Draco's Upper Cut (74.4%), and both of Juju's Gadgets — Elementalist (74.3%) and Voodoo Chile (73.7%). For the wider roster, the universal rule is simple: pick the Gadget that wins or survives a fight (reposition, heal, burst, escape) over the one that only adds convenience. Full per-Brawler picks below.

What are Gadgets in Brawl Stars?

A Gadget is an active ability on top of a Brawler's basic attack and Super. You tap the Gadget button to trigger it — a dash, a heal, a wall, a burst of extra damage, a trap — and it recharges on a cooldown over the match. Each Brawler has two Gadgets, and you equip one before a battle.

The details that decide games:

  • Two Gadgets per Brawler, one equipped per match. You unlock the first Gadget slot at Power Level 7 and acquire the second Gadget as you keep leveling the Brawler. You cannot swap mid-match — the pick happens on the loadout screen.
  • Cooldown-based, not a fixed number of charges. This is the single most out-of-date thing you'll read in old guides. The February 2025 rework removed the old "3 uses per match" cap: Gadgets now recharge on a cooldown and can be used as many times as the match allows. Stronger Gadgets have longer cooldowns — a heavy control tool recharges around 20+ seconds (Juju's Elementalist, for example, sits at a 17-second cooldown), while a lighter one is back in roughly 10. That shift is why the right Gadget matters more than ever: a great one is available again and again.
  • They stack with your Star Power and Gears. A maxed Brawler runs one of two Gadgets, one of two Star Powers, and two Gears — and the Gadget is the piece you re-pick most often because it's the most matchup-dependent.

Do not confuse Gadgets with Buffies or the Brawler Blast mini-game that replaced Starr Road in Update 69. Brawler Blast is the bonus round that fires when you unlock a Brawler with Credits; Buffies are small permanent upgrades applied to a Brawler's Gadget, Star Power or Hypercharge. Several Brawlers had Gadget tweaks in the September balance passes — which is exactly why an old "best gadget" list can steer you wrong today.

How to choose a Gadget: the one rule that beats memorizing every card

There are well over 200 Gadgets in the game and they change every patch, so don't memorize a static list — learn the priority. In roughly this order, pick the Gadget that:

  • Wins the fight outright — instant burst, a guaranteed stun, or a reload that lets you out-trade (e.g. Colt's Silver Bullet).
  • Saves your life or repositions you — a dash, a jump, a shield, a heal (e.g. Max's Phase Shifter, Edgar's Let's Fly, Spike's Life Plant).
  • Controls space or denies the objective — a wall, a trap, a reveal, area denial (e.g. Cosmo's Telescope Trap, Jessie's Spark Plug).
  • Adds convenience — vision, minor utility. Only when nothing above applies.

The counter-intuitive part: on most Brawlers the higher-impact "win/survive" Gadget out-performs the flashier one, which is why the win-rate board below is dominated by repositioning and control tools, not raw-damage buttons.

Best Gadgets right now, ranked by win rate (October 2026)

These are the ten highest win-rate Gadgets across the whole game, from brawltime.ninja's live Gadget data (1.95M battles sampled, season starting 2026-10-12, refreshed within the hour of writing). Win rate here is measured for players who own only that single Gadget on the Brawler, which isolates the Gadget's impact:

#GadgetBrawlerWin rate
1Planetary PushbackCosmo77.5%
2Green GrenadeWendy77.4%
3Telescope TrapCosmo77.3%
4Upper CutDraco74.4%
5ElementalistJuju74.3%
6RegulateOllie73.9%
7Voodoo ChileJuju73.7%
8Hacks!R-T73.7%
9RebuildJacky73.7%
10Wind-PoweredWendy73.3%

Two crucial caveats before you read that as a shopping list:

  • A Gadget's win rate mostly reflects how strong its Brawler is, not just the Gadget. Cosmo, Wendy and Juju are three of the strongest Brawlers in the current meta, so both of their Gadgets rank near the top — that tells you to play the Brawler, then read below which of its two Gadgets to actually equip.
  • Sample size matters more than the number. Cosmo (live since ~September 10, 2026) and Draco sit on small pick-rate samples, so their eye-watering win rates are "very strong early, not fully settled." Jacky's Rebuild is flagged "Not Significant" by brawltime — its number can't be separated from noise yet, so don't over-index on it. The high-confidence, high-sample picks on this board are Wendy's Green Grenade and Juju's two Gadgets.

The best Gadget for every meta Brawler (October 2026)

Below is the single best default Gadget for the Brawlers you'll actually see in the current meta, with the situational alternative. Picks are cross-checked against brawltime's live win-rate data and community build data (noff.gg, RankedBoost) as of October 2026 — always trust live data over a static list when a new patch drops.

Top S-tier picks

  • Cosmo — Telescope Trap for the reveal-and-lockdown zone control that pairs with his magnet Super; Planetary Pushback as the panic-button knockback to peel divers off you.
  • Wendy — Green Grenade (slow + heal-block is the reason she anchors so many comps); Wind-Powered for the short hop to survive dive-heavy maps.
  • Juju — Elementalist as the default (terrain buff: damage reduction on ground, invisibility in grass, faster over water — a 17s cooldown); Voodoo Chile when you want your next attack to carry all three elements for burst.
  • Ollie — Regulate as the reliable default; swap to his alternate engage Gadget only when the enemy draft rewards it.

Assassins & aggressive Brawlers

  • Draco — Upper Cut as the default knock-up; Last Stand against teams that try to burst through you during the engage.
  • Mortis — Creature of the Night (the healing dash that keeps him alive through commits); Combo Spinner when you need instant burst instead of another dash.
  • Edgar — Let's Fly for the jump reset; Hardcore only when you already have easy Super access and want the shield.
  • Leon — Lollipop Drop (the slow that secures kills); Clone Projector for scouting bushes or baiting ammo.
  • Kenji — Hosomaki Healing; Dashi Dash when mobility reaches or escapes the right target.

Marksmen & mid-range

  • Colt — Silver Bullet for the wall-shredding burst in close quarters; Speedloader on already-open maps where more ammo means more pressure (community build data slightly favors Speedloader overall).
  • R-T — Hacks! (the top-10 win-rate Gadget — the stacking-damage marker that makes his split-body pressure lethal); Scrappy! as the situational alternate.
  • Piper — Homemade Recipe for the escape; Auto Aimer against assassins and tanks that keep reaching you.
  • Angelo — Master Fletcher; Stinging Flight against assassins that keep closing in.
  • Mandy — Caramelize; Cookie Crumbs when enemies keep hiding behind thin walls.

Tanks, throwers & control

  • Bull — T-Bone Injector; Stomper in Brawl Ball.
  • Frank — Active Noise Canceling; Irresistible Attraction for an extra pull that sets up your Super.
  • Gene — Vengeful Spirits (the auto-hitting multi-target burst); Lamp Blowout against assassins or Brawl Ball carriers.
  • Tick — Last Hurrah for the panic escape; Mine Mania when you're safe from dives and can focus on pressure.
  • Jacky — Rebuild (fresh top-10 by win rate — rebuilds destructible walls to control space; note the small-sample flag); Pneumatic Booster when you want the speed burst to engage or escape.

Supports & utility

  • Spike — Life Plant (area heal); Popping Pincushion in Heist or point-blank fights.
  • Tara — Support From Beyond (the shadow ally that fights alongside you — near-irreplaceable); Psychic Enhancer only in dedicated Super-cycle comps.
  • Poco — Tuning Fork for the healing (buffed in September); Protective Tunes against stuns and slows.
  • Bea — Rattled Hive (the extra swarm of bees for burst); Honey Molasses to slow a chaser.
  • Bibi — Vitamin Booster (the self-heal that makes her a Brawl Ball staple); Batting Stance to reflect projectiles in a pinch.

What changed for Gadgets in the latest balance patches?

The last confirmed balance activity was the September 2026 passes — a large pass alongside Update 69, followed by a September 16 maintenance that adjusted 18 Brawlers (roughly nine buffs, nine nerfs and ten bug fixes per community patch coverage). Unusually, these touched several Gadgets directly rather than just attack numbers. The pattern to know (figures below are from community patch logs — Brawl Planet, PlayNews, and a pre-patch leak via SportsDunia — because Supercell's own release-notes page was not reachable at the time of writing, so treat exact seconds as community-reported, not official):

  • Targeted Gadget-cooldown nerfs, not a global change. Specific Gadgets had their cooldowns lengthened rather than any system-wide nerf — community logs cite Shade's Long Arms (reported 18s → 20s), El Primo's Asteroid Belt (16s → 20s) and Brock's Rocket Laces (20s → 22s), among others. If a Gadget you relied on feels less available than it did in August, a longer cooldown is usually why.
  • A few Gadgets got better. On the buff side, Poco's Tuning Fork healing was increased (the official notes list 500 → 700). Historically, cooldown cuts to Gadgets like Bea's Rattled Hive and Melodie's Perfect Pitch have swung their value, so re-check any Gadget whose feel changed.
  • Shade was the most-nerfed Brawler across the September maintenance, with both Gadgets and his fear radius cut — a reminder that a Brawl-Pass-headliner nerf can quietly drop a Gadget's value.

No standalone October Gadget balance patch has been confirmed — the Season 55 "Brawl-O-Ween" launch (October 1) reportedly carried a small pass including a further Shade nerf, but no dedicated October Gadget change list surfaced. The practical takeaway: a large balance pass is exactly the kind of update that invalidates old "best gadget" articles overnight. When a Brawler you main gets touched, re-check its two Gadgets in-game before you commit a slot.

How to unlock and afford your Gadgets

You don't buy Gadgets with real money as a separate purchase — you unlock them through normal progression:

  • The first Gadget slot unlocks at Power Level 7. You'll typically get a Brawler's first Gadget from Starr Drops, the Brawl Pass, or the Brawler Blast mini-game when you unlock the Brawler with Credits.
  • The second Gadget comes the same way as you keep leveling the Brawler.
  • Because you only equip one per match, there's no rush to own both — get the higher-impact one from the picks above first, then round out the collection.

If you're grinding a specific Brawler to Power 7 to get its Gadget online, the fastest legitimate route is playing that Brawler in your best mode to bank Coins and opening Starr Drops daily. There are no shortcuts and no "free Gadget generators" — any site or app promising free Gems or instant unlocks is a scam and can get your account banned. Ignore them.

FAQ

How many Gadgets does each Brawler have? Two. You unlock the first Gadget slot at Power Level 7 and acquire the second as you level the Brawler up. You equip exactly one per match on the loadout screen and cannot swap during the game.

How many times can you use a Gadget in one match? As many times as its cooldown allows. Since the February 2025 rework, Gadgets are cooldown-based with unlimited uses — the old cap of three uses per match no longer exists. Stronger Gadgets simply have longer recharge times (roughly 10–24 seconds; Juju's Elementalist, for instance, is 17 seconds), and certain Gears or Star Powers can shorten a cooldown further.

What is the best Gadget in Brawl Stars right now? By live win rate in October 2026 (brawltime.ninja, 1.95M battles), Cosmo's Planetary Pushback (77.5%), Wendy's Green Grenade (77.4%) and Cosmo's Telescope Trap (77.3%) top the charts, with Juju's two Gadgets close behind. But a Gadget's win rate mostly reflects how strong its Brawler is — the best Gadget for you is the highest-impact one on whichever Brawler fits your mode and map.

Did any Gadgets change in the latest Brawl Stars update? Yes. The September 2026 balance passes (including the September 16 maintenance) lengthened the cooldowns on several Gadgets — community logs cite Shade's Long Arms, El Primo's Asteroid Belt and Brock's Rocket Laces — and buffed a few, such as Poco's Tuning Fork healing. No dedicated October Gadget patch has been confirmed beyond a small Season 55 launch pass. Re-test any main whose Gadget feels different.

How do I get free Gadgets in Brawl Stars? Through normal progression only — Starr Drops, the Brawl Pass, and the Brawler Blast mini-game when you unlock a Brawler with Credits. There is no legitimate "free Gadget" generator; third-party sites promising free unlocks or Gems are scams and risk your account.

Should I pick the damage Gadget or the utility Gadget? As a rule, take the Gadget that wins or survives a fight (burst, stun, dash, heal, shield, reveal) over one that only adds convenience like vision. That priority is why repositioning and control Gadgets dominate the win-rate leaderboard over raw-damage buttons.
