Quick answer
Brawl Stars Season 54 "Royal Academy" is live now. It launched on September 3, 2026 under Update 69 ("Brawler Blast") and runs until October 1, 2026, when Season 55 "Brawl-O-Ween" takes over (TopUpLive season guide). It is one of the most feature-packed seasons in years. Here is what actually changed:
- Starr Road is gone. It has been replaced by Brawler Blast, a shooting-gallery minigame you play when you spend Credits to unlock a Brawler.
- Two new Mythic Brawlers. Cosmo (a magnetic robot scientist) arrives in September; Vince (a bug-obsessed barista) follows in October.
- A huge Sept 1 balance patch — roughly 20–27 Brawlers buffed and 12–20 nerfed depending on the tracker, plus a full Chuck rework.
- New modes — Hide & Seek (1-vs-3), a Prop Hunt modifier, and a Duolingo crossover Boss mode for up to 20 players starting around September 19.
- A "Royal Academy" / "Monster Academy" cosmetic theme with Principal Nani and Head Coach Hank leading the Brawl Pass.
The single biggest change is Brawler Blast replacing Starr Road — the first overhaul of the Brawler-unlock system in years. Everything else sits on top of it.

When does Season 54 Royal Academy start and end?
Royal Academy is the back-to-school season, with a parallel "Monster Academy" theme running alongside it. The dates are firm:
- Season start: September 3, 2026 (when Season 53 "Windstock" ended)
- Season end: October 1, 2026
- Update version: Update 69 ("Brawler Blast")
- Next season: Season 55 "Brawl-O-Ween"
- Season exclusive title: Royalty
That is a roughly four-week season, in line with the current monthly cadence. The balance changes and the new Brawler Blast system actually went live during the September 1, 2026 maintenance break, two days ahead of the cosmetic season flip (Sportsdunia), so if you logged in on the 1st you already had the new systems before the Royal Academy theme dropped.
What is Brawler Blast, and what happened to Starr Road?
This is the headline. Starr Road — the branching path you used to walk down to pick which Brawler your Credits unlocked — is retired. In its place is Brawler Blast.
Here is how it works, per Supercell's release notes and the TopUpLive breakdown: when you spend Credits to unlock a Brawler of a given rarity, you enter a shooting-gallery-style minigame. Every Brawler of that rarity you don't already own becomes a target, and the last Brawler standing is the one you unlock. During the minigame you also collect Gem Fragments, which can hand out bonus progression items:
- Power Levels
- Gadgets
- Gears
- Star Powers
- Hypercharges
- Buffies
Three things matter for players:
- The Credit cost per rarity is unchanged — Brawler Blast is a new delivery method, not a price hike.
- You still can't cherry-pick a specific Brawler within a rarity — the minigame decides the order, same as Starr Road's constraints.
- The old "Ultra Legendary" rarity has been renamed simply "Ultra." Only Kaze and Sirius sit in that tier, so it is a label change, not a new power level.
If you want the deep mechanics, our Brawler Blast explainer walks through the minigame screen and the Gem Fragment odds in detail.
Who are the new Brawlers — Cosmo and Vince?
Season 54 introduces two new Mythic Brawlers. Both are Mythic — no new Legendary or Ultra this cycle.
Cosmo — Mythic Controller (September)
Cosmo is a robot astronomer who runs the Starr Park Observatory, and he is built for coordinated play.
- Attack — Orbit: fires three projectiles that orbit in a circle and grow larger and deal more damage the farther they travel.
- Super — Gravitational Pull: attaches a magnet to an enemy, so Cosmo's and his teammates' projectiles home hard toward that target.
- Gadgets: Planetary Pushback, Telescope Trap
- Star Powers: Precession, Ammo Attractor
That Super is what makes him an elite team-fight Controller — marking one target and turning your whole team's fire into guided missiles is genuinely new. Cosmo is releasing during September 2026, but note that as of writing Supercell has not officially pinned his exact in-game playable date / early-access event — he may already be live in your client, so check in-game before assuming. You unlock him through Brawler Blast for 1,900 Mythic Credits (brawlqr.com). For the full loadout, see our Cosmo guide.
Vince — Mythic Damage Dealer (October)
Vince is a bug-obsessed barista who joins in October 2026, not September, so he is not playable yet. His hook is a moth-collection mechanic:
- Attack — Espresso Shot: throws a coffee mug at enemies.
- Super — Barista Barrage: releases his collected moths, hitting harder the more he's banked. Caterpillars spawn nearby, and hitting or walking over them turns them into moths — he can hold up to 20, but loses 50% of them when defeated.
- Gadgets: Hot Coffee, Metamorphosis
- Star Powers: Come to Papa, Bug Bandage
Ignore any tracker that lists the roster at 108 "live" Brawlers — that count pre-lists Cosmo (#107) and Vince (#108) ahead of their in-game unlocks. The confirmed live count is 106 (Wendy #106 being the last fully playable Brawler), per noff.gg.
What changed in the September 1 balance patch?
Update 69 shipped one of the largest balance passes of 2026. Brawl Planet's tracker logged 27 Brawlers buffed and 20 nerfed; other trackers count closer to 19 buffed / 12 nerfed — exact totals vary by how each site groups Buffie and Gadget tweaks, so treat the number as "very large" rather than exact.
The direction is clear and consistent across sources: Supercell reined in the recently-dominant new picks and handed tempo back to under-used Brawlers.
- Nerfed hard: Wendy, Nori, Max, Rico — plus broad Super-charge-rate and Gadget-cooldown reductions across many Brawlers.
- Buffed: under-used picks including Jae-yong, Bea, Eve, Lola, Tara.
- Chuck received a full rework — the new version starts with a full Super and can store up to four Super charges, alongside stat and kit changes that meaningfully change how he plays (BrawlScope patch notes).
That last one matters because Wendy and Nori were the twin pillars of the pre-September meta. As TopUpLive put it in its season guide, "The large number of buffs, nerfs, and Buffie changes means your favorite Brawlers may perform differently after Update 69." If you are grinding trophies or Ranked, re-check the meta before you lock in — the whole S-tier reshuffled on September 1. Our September tier list and the full September balance-changes breakdown track the post-patch picks number by number.

What are the new modes and events?
Royal Academy leans hard into limited-time modes.
Hide & Seek
A 1-vs-3 format: one player is the Seeker, three are Hiders, roles rotate across multiple rounds. It rewards map knowledge and positioning far more than a standard 3v3, which makes it a nice change of pace from the tryhard modes.
Prop Hunt
A modifier that lets players blend into the environment — deception on top of the hide-and-seek loop.
Duolingo collaboration
The season's marquee event. Starting around September 19, 2026, the Duolingo crossover adds a special Mega Boss Duo mode set in "Duo's Classroom" for up to 20 players. During the boss fight, players answer language questions to earn buffs or dodge incoming damage — genuinely one of the more creative collab mechanics Supercell has shipped. The tie-in community event also rewards cosmetics, Chaos Drops, and a chance to grab Spike for free (esports.gg).
What Brawl Pass and shop skins are in Royal Academy?
The cosmetic theme is a mix of prim-and-proper "Royal Academy" and spooky "Monster Academy" looks.
Brawl Pass skins (Epic):
- Principal Nani — with Head Teacher Nani and Queen Nani chromas
- Head Coach Hank — with Trainer Hank and Team Captain Hank chromas
Shop skins:
- Drum Major Najia — Mythic, 199 Gems
- Academy Ollie — Mythic, 199 Gems
- Trash Goblin Darryl — Mythic, 199 Gems
- Academy Mandy — Legendary, 299 Gems
If you are budgeting Gems, note that three of the shop skins are 199 Gems each — plan around the Brawl Pass first (seasonal cosmetics come through progression), then spend on shop skins you actually want. And a standing warning for this game: the only legitimate ways to get free Gems are the Brawl Pass, Starr Drops, in-game events, and official offers. Any site promising a "free gem generator" is a scam — they don't work and they risk your account.
Is the Royal Academy update worth logging back in for?
Yes — even if you skip the season pass. Brawler Blast is a permanent, structural change you'll interact with every time you unlock a Brawler, the September 1 patch reshuffled the entire meta, and the Duolingo Boss event hands out free Chaos Drops and a free Spike. Between a new progression system, two new Mythics, a Chuck rework, and a genuinely novel collab mode, this is a full-fat update rather than a cosmetic-only season.
Your priority checklist for the month:
- Learn the Brawler Blast screen so you don't waste Credits confused about the minigame.
- Re-check the meta after the Sept 1 patch before any serious Ranked or trophy push.
- Play the Duolingo event from ~Sep 19 for the free Chaos Drops and Spike.
- Test Cosmo if he's live in your client — his team-fight Super is unique.
