How to Counter Hirara in Mobile Legends (Season 42, Patch 2.2.16)

Hirara is the most-banned hero in Mobile Legends right now, and that is exactly why learning to counter her matters more than banning her. On patch 2.2.16 (Season 42), the community tracker mlbbhub puts Hirara's seven-day ranked ban rate at 66.3% — the highest in the game — and in high-Mythic lobbies a player-run telemetry pull on 4 October 2026 measured her ban rate as high as 87.8%. When a hero is banned that often, your ban slots are usually spent elsewhere, and you end up facing a Hirara anyway. The players who climb are the ones who know how to beat her on the draft screen and in the first four minutes, not the ones who hope she stays banned.

This guide is written for Season 42 and patch 2.2.16 (live since 16 September 2026). MLBB re-tunes contested heroes fast, so treat every matchup call here as a working read from current ranked data and check your in-game skill tooltips before you lock a build.

Quick answer: To counter Hirara, attack the two things her kit cannot fix — her fragility and her resource pool. First, draft a point-and-click threat that does not have to be dodged: burst assassins who catch her (Saber, Natalia) and lockdown that interrupts her combo (Minsitthar, Khufra, Franco, Atlas) beat her because she is paper-thin once she is pinned. Second, take the game long — across measured matchups Hirara is weakest after roughly the 16-minute mark, so scaling heroes like Phoveus, Odette and Cyclops win by surviving her early window. Third, respect her energy economy, not her damage: she holds only two charges, every lockdown-or-escape combo spends one, and recovery pauses while she spends, so a Hirara forced to use a charge defensively has nothing left to kill you with.

Why Hirara is so hard to counter — and where she breaks

Hirara is a jungle assassin, introduced as a new hero in Patch 2.1.88 on 17 June 2026. Her kit is unusual and that is the whole reason she is contested: she has no ultimate. She has two base skills — a dash and a fan-shaped burst — and two merged variants you reach by dragging one skill onto the other. One merge turns her dash into a spin that pins everyone it catches; the other makes her untargetable for a beat, drops her heaviest burst, and dashes her back out. One button to lock a target down, one button to leave, and nothing in between (mechanics per mlbbhub — Hirara overview, patch 2.2.16).

The piece every opponent misses is her energy pool. She holds only two charges; every merged combo spends one; and recovery only ticks while the timer runs, so spending a charge also pauses the clock. That single detail is the counter. As mlbbhub's data page puts it, "she reads like a burst assassin and plays like a resource gambler" — the clean montage finish only exists because the player had a charge left to spend. Bait a charge out of her and she is, for several seconds, a fragile melee hero with no escape.

Her statistical profile on patch 2.2.16 confirms the shape:

  • Win rate: ~53.7% — strong but not broken; the ban rate is driven by how miserable she is to play against, not by a runaway win rate.
  • Ban rate: ~66.3% (mlbbhub, 7-day ranked, snapshot 4 October 2026) — the single highest in the game.
  • Pick rate: ~0.6% — low, because she is banned so often she rarely reaches the pick phase.
  • Power curve: strongest in the early game, measurably weakest once a match passes ~16 minutes across her ten tracked matchups.

That last line is the most useful number in this article. Hirara is an early-game tempo hero. If you survive her first four minutes without feeding, you are already winning the matchup.

Who counters Hirara? The best picks by role

Here is the honest state of the counter lists: the two biggest MLBB trackers do not agree, and the disagreement tells you something. The matchup-data site mlbbhub ranks counters by measured win-rate edge in ranked play, while mlcounters uses its own aggregate and names a different top three. Rather than pick a winner silently, here is what each is measuring and where they overlap.

By measured win-rate edge (mlbbhub, patch 2.2.16, points shown are percentage-point gains in the matchup):

CounterRoleEdge vs HiraraWhy it works
SaberAssassin+3.1 ppPoint-and-click lockdown she cannot dodge from point-blank; the jungle mirror is miserable for her
PhoveusFighter+2.7 ppScales past her; takes the game long, where she is weakest
OdetteMage+2.2 ppScaling burst that punishes her after the 16-minute mark
MinsittharFighter+2.2 ppHis crowd control disrupts her dive and denies the clean reset
CyclopsMage+2.1 ppRange and scaling; wins the long game

By mlcounters' aggregate: Helcurt, Alucard and Belerick — a tankier/assassin-leaning answer set that emphasises out-trading her rather than out-scaling her. The overlap between the two lists is the lesson: there is no single hard counter to Hirara. What works is a type of hero, not one name.

The three counter archetypes that actually beat Hirara

1. Point-and-click lockdown (the draft-screen answer). Hirara has to physically enter a fight to do anything. Heroes whose crowd control does not need to be aimed — Atlas, Franco, Khufra, Minsitthar — interrupt her combo before it lands, and Saber catches her with a lockdown she cannot dodge at close range. Mages with instant point-and-click deletion, like Valentina and Lunox, remove her on the way in. If your team has two or more of these, her ceiling collapses.

2. Scaling and range (the win-condition answer). Because she falls off hard after ~16 minutes, any hero who reliably survives her early game and out-scales her beats her by default: Phoveus, Odette, Cyclops. You are not trying to win the first skirmish — you are trying to reach minute 18 even.

3. Burst that out-trades her (the solo-queue answer). In lobbies where you cannot coordinate a lockdown draft, pick a hero who simply kills her faster than she kills you when you both commit — the fragile assassin trades badly against a burstier one. This is where mlcounters' Helcurt/Alucard picks come from, and it is why the KB-level advice is "never let the fight be one isolated target she controls."

How to play against Hirara in-game

Counter-picking is half the job. The other half is how you play the lanes and the map once the match starts.

Survive the first four minutes. Hirara's entire value is early tempo. Ward your jungle entrances, play the early game as if a gank is always coming, and do not over-extend for a wave or a camp before you have your core items. A Hirara who gets no early kills is a Hirara who is now losing a race against the clock.

Make her spend a charge, then punish. This is the single most important habit. If you can force her to use a merged combo defensively — to escape a gank, to dodge your crowd control — she now has one charge or none, and her recovery is paused. That is your window to collapse on her. Track her engages: a Hirara who just blinked in has spent, and for a few seconds she cannot blink out.

Group and deny the isolated target. She wants one enemy she can lock down alone. Do not give it to her. Rotate as a pair in the mid-game, keep your carry near a peeling roamer, and make every fight a clump — her damage does not spread the way a true AoE carry's does, so a 2-versus-1 answer kills her before her combo matters.

Buy the right defensive items, not anti-heal. Unlike the revamped Masha, Hirara is not a sustain hero, so anti-heal is wasted on her. What hurts her is raw survivability against burst: a timely Winter Truncheon on a squishy carry can freeze through her entire combo, and tank items that blunt her opening burst let your team turn on her while her charges are down.

Take the game long. If nothing else is working, stall. Trade objectives, avoid the coin-flip early skirmishes she wants, and get the match to the point where your scaling heroes have their items. The data is blunt about this: after ~16 minutes, Hirara is the weaker hero in most of her matchups.

Counter-picking is a climbing skill — and it is a service we offer

Knowing the counter is one thing; having the right hero available and the mechanics to pilot it is another. If your account cannot pick into the meta — missing the heroes that beat the current ban-tier picks, or stuck at a rank that no longer matches your skill — that is exactly where timesaver.gg helps.

Want to climb past the Hirara lobbies instead of getting stuck in them? timesaver.gg runs a full Mobile Legends shelf built around ranked play.

FAQ

Who is the best counter to Hirara in Mobile Legends? There is no single hard counter. On patch 2.2.16, mlbbhub's measured win-rate edges put Saber (+3.1 pp), Phoveus (+2.7 pp) and Odette (+2.2 pp) at the top, while the tracker mlcounters names Helcurt, Alucard and Belerick instead. The agreement underneath the disagreement is the real answer: a type of hero beats her — point-and-click lockdown, scaling range, or burst that out-trades her — not one specific name.

What is Hirara's weakness in MLBB? Two things. She is very fragile — once she is pinned by crowd control she dies fast — and she runs on a two-charge energy pool that pauses its own recovery whenever she spends a charge. Force her to blink or spin defensively and she has nothing left to kill with. On top of that, she is an early-game hero who is measurably weakest after about the 16-minute mark.

Does anti-heal counter Hirara? No. Hirara is not a sustain hero, so anti-heal items (Sea Halberd, Necklace of Durance, Dominance Ice) do almost nothing against her — that advice applies to heroes like the revamped Masha. Against Hirara, build raw survivability against burst instead: Winter Truncheon on a squishy carry, and tank items that blunt her opening combo.

Why is Hirara banned so much if her win rate is only 53%? Because ban rate tracks how frustrating a hero is to face, not how often she wins. She punishes exactly the instinct her mobility invites — commit to a kill and she locks you down or escapes before you can react — so most players would rather remove her than learn the matchup. On patch 2.2.16 she sits at a ~66% ban rate on mlbbhub (and as high as ~88% in high-Mythic lobbies per a 4 October 2026 player telemetry pull), despite a win rate in the low 50s.

Should I ban Hirara or pick a counter? If you have a reliable lockdown draft, you can often let her through and punish her — she is beatable with the right team composition, and your ban slot may be better spent on a hero you have no answer for. In uncoordinated solo queue, banning her is the safer play, because the counter to Hirara depends on team coordination you cannot guarantee.
