Season 5 of Last Epoch (Patch 1.5) launched October 1, 2026. Here is what you need to know about the Dreamslash Bladedancer build right now.

Quick answer: Dreamslash is a new Bladedancer-exclusive skill that dashes through enemies and copies every hit through your Shadows. Its base mana cost is 3 — reducible to 0 with the Distortion Blade node — and it scales with Dexterity (4% increased damage per point). At max investment in Collapsing Shadows, every cast delivers a high volume of Shadow Daggers stacks, doubled for any active Shadows. It is the fastest-unlocking of the three new Season 5 skills (10 Bladedancer passive points) and requires no unique items to carry you through Normal Monolith timelines.

Key facts — Patch 1.5, Season 5 Rage of the Frostborn:

  • Skill tags: Physical, Melee, Area, Movement, Dexterity
  • Mana cost: 3 (reducible to 0 via Distortion Blade, 3/3 points)
  • Primary damage loop: Dreamslash dash → Shadows copy the dash attack → Collapsing Shadows procs Shadow Daggers ailments (chance doubled for shadows)
  • Primary stat scaling: Dexterity (4% increased damage per dex)
  • Unlock gate: 10 Bladedancer passive tree points
  • New S5 synergy: Death's Dance unique boots remove the evade cooldown, improving Shift cycling

Why Play Dreamslash Bladedancer in Season 5?

Eleventh Hour Games stated the design goal in the Hype Week Day 3 developer post: "We wanted Bladedancer to have a low-cost, spammable attack with movement that helps the Rogue lean into a nimble-like playstyle. While we have created ways to create shadows, we wanted another skill that could consume shadows for extra benefits." — EHG official developer post, September 2026.

That framing tells you exactly how to approach the build. Dreamslash is not a replacement for the Shadow Daggers archetype — it extends it. The classic Shadow Daggers Bladedancer used Synchronized Strike as the primary delivery mechanism. Dreamslash replaces that slot with an option that has no cooldown, a mana cost reducible to zero, and built-in movement that keeps the Evasion damage-reduction buff active.

Compared to the other two new Season 5 skills:

SkillClassUnlock gateGear dependency
DreamslashBladedancer (Rogue)10 Bladedancer ptsLow — scales from Dexterity and passive nodes
Radiant LancePaladin (Sentinel)15 Paladin ptsMedium — shield required for base version
Summon Tide ElementalShaman (Primalist)30 Shaman ptsMedium — permanent minion needs supporting nodes

Dreamslash wins on accessibility: it unlocks the fastest, works with any melee weapon, and its Dexterity primary stat is easy to stack given Bladedancer's existing passive priorities.

How Dreamslash Works (Verified — Official Patch 1.5 Notes)

Dreamslash dashes your character forward to a target, hitting all enemies along the path, then delivers a quick slash. Any Shadows you have summoned also perform the attack: each Shadow dashes beyond its own target, striking all enemies in its path. The dash and the slash deal equal damage, and an enemy can only be hit by one of them per cast.

A few mechanical details that change build decisions:

  • Tags include Movement — Evasion damage reduction applies on the dash itself.
  • Shadows performing the attack dash beyond their target, hitting enemies along their own path — the coverage compounds with each active Shadow.

The Most Important Skill Tree Nodes

These are the nodes that define the primary build variants:

Collapsing Shadows — Gives Dreamslash a 25% chance per point to inflict Shadow Daggers on hit. That chance is doubled for every Shadow performing the attack alongside you. This is the core node for the Shadow Daggers delivery variant. Combined with three active Shadows, a single cast generates multiple independent Shadow Daggers procs.

Distortion Blade — 5% increased attack speed per point plus -1 mana cost per point (maximum 3 points). At 3/3, Dreamslash costs 0 mana. This is the enabling node for the "Zero-Mana" build variant that has emerged as a popular league starter. Take this if you want sustained spam without mana management overhead.

Recurring Dreams — Up to 1 Shadow per point performing Dreamslash can consume 5 mana to guarantee being resummoned after the attack (maximum 4 points). This guarantees you always have Shadows available for the doubled Collapsing Shadows proc rate, but it requires 5 mana per shadow per cast — which is why the Zero-Mana variant does NOT take Recurring Dreams. Players using this node run high mana regeneration gear and often add Flurry to the skill bar as a mana filler.

Narcolepsy — You gain a Dream stack every 2 seconds (up to a cap). Directly using Dreamslash can consume a Dream stack to deal 120% more damage, but the attack chooses a random nearby target instead of your cursor position. The big number is real; the random targeting is the trade-off.

Dreamwalker — 1% increased Dream gain rate per point per 3 Dexterity. At 3/3 and 100 Dexterity, Dream gain doubles (1 stack per second instead of 1 per 2 seconds). Pairs with Narcolepsy for sustained burst uptime.

Dreamshift — Shadows no longer perform Dreamslash. Instead, consuming a Shadow grants a Dream stack and the cast starts from the Shadow's location rather than your character's position. This enables a teleport-like playstyle at the cost of the Shadow copy loop. Not recommended for the Collapsing Shadows build variant.

Imaginary Plate — 35% chance per point to shred enemy armor on hit (maximum 3 points). Very efficient investment for Armor Shred Chance, which the stat goals section below lists as mandatory for the build.

Trance of Wrath — On use, creates a Dream Aura. Enemies inside the aura have +5% increased chance to receive critical strikes. While the aura is not active, Dreamslash has 20% increased range. A single-point utility node worth considering for boss fights.

Dreamslash Dreamwalker skill tree node — 1% increased Dream gain rate per 3 Dexterity, Last Epoch Season 5

Two Main Build Variants

Variant A — Shadow Daggers / Collapsing Shadows (most common, recommended for beginners): Maximize Collapsing Shadows for Shadow Daggers delivery. Take Distortion Blade 3/3 for zero mana cost. Focus the passive tree on Blood Dance (sustain), All In (crit multi since Shadow Daggers always crits), and Perfection stacks (damage + Armor + Dodge). This is the variant this guide covers in full.

Variant B — Dream Stack / Narcolepsy: Stack Dexterity for Dreamwalker's gain rate bonus. Take Dreamwalker 3/3 and Narcolepsy for 120% more damage burst cycles. Add Dreamshift if you want the teleport mechanic. This variant has a higher ceiling on single-target burst but worse general AoE and is less friendly to early-season gear.

Skill Setup

The standard Shadow Daggers Dreamslash loadout:

SkillRole
DreamslashPrimary damage + movement — spam as main attack
ShiftMobility + Umbral Blades trigger — cast through Shift via Umbral Remnant node
Umbral BladesPersistent Shadow Daggers source — applies 3 stacks per second for 5+ seconds
Smoke BombShadow generation + Smoke Blades damage buff — position strategically on packs/bosses
Shadow CascadeAoE clear + additional Shadow Daggers; cast through Shift for mana efficiency

Alternative fifth slot: replace Shadow Cascade with Flurry if running Recurring Dreams. Flurry refills mana cheaply between Dreamslash bursts.

Rotation logic: Dreamslash is your primary movement and damage tool — spam it constantly through packs. Use Shift on cooldown to maintain Evasion damage reduction and to proc Umbral Blades on enemies. Drop Smoke Bomb on elite packs and boss phases to activate the Smoke Blades damage buff and generate additional Shadows. Keep moving to maximize the Evasion and Pursuit passive bonuses.

Passive Tree Overview

The Bladedancer tree (10 points minimum to unlock Dreamslash) and the base Rogue tree are where the build's damage and survivability come from. You can allocate points in the first half of any other Mastery tree regardless of your chosen Mastery, so some Paladin or Primalist nodes can supplement the build if needed, but the core priority is within Rogue and Bladedancer.

Prioritized Rogue base passives:

  • Agility — Grants Haste buff. At 100%+ movement speed (achievable with Agility + boots), Evasion and Agility's damage modifiers stack into a significant multiplier.

Prioritized Bladedancer passives:

  • Blood Dance — Melee damage leeched as health. This plus Melee Damage Leeched as Health from gloves are your primary sustain sources. Take as early as possible.
  • All In — Critical strike multiplier. Shadow Daggers always crits, so there is no conditional downside — pure damage.
  • Swift Assassin / Once — Shadow Daggers carries both Melee and Throwing tags; both nodes provide extra benefit.
  • Pursuit — The movement speed boost is the primary value.
  • Focus Fire / Wound Maker — Let you skip Dodge and Critical Strike Avoidance modifiers on Monolith affixes, freeing those slots for offensive stats.
  • Perfection — Damage scaling and Armor/Dodge from Confidence. Invest one point in Exuberance alongside it to double stack generation rate.
  • Death's Door — If you play Hardcore, this provides additional damage reduction at low health. Optional for Softcore.

Stat Goals and Gear

Gear milestones:

Early Empowered: Two T5 affixes per slot. Prioritize defensive suffixes for resistance capping (Bone Amulet, Crusader Gauntlets, Spidersilk Sash are strong bases). Get a one-handed weapon with double T5 offensive prefixes (flat damage + attack speed or physical damage modifier) as soon as possible.

Mid-game: Movement Speed boots (Solarum Greaves base). Stack Hybrid Health. Begin Empowered Blessing farming as soon as you reach Empowered Monolith — the Blessing system frees up multiple gear slots once the resistance Blessings are in place.

Chase uniques: Siphon of Anguish (from Shade of Orobyss), Smoke Weaver, and Carcinization of Momentum massively amplify Shadow Daggers ceiling. None are required for entry-level Empowered content.

Season 5 unique — Death's Dance: This new Season 5 ultra-rare unique boots removes the evade cooldown entirely. For Bladedancer, this means Shift can be used more freely without the window where evade is locked after use. Since the build's Evasion damage reduction is active only during movement, removing the lock improves defensive consistency during sustained boss phases. It is on the "ultra-rare" tier alongside the Red Ring of Atlaria, so treat it as a long-term target rather than Day 1 obtainable.

Normal Blessings (on the way to Empowered): Echo of Solarum, Bastion of Divinity, Survival of Might, Persistance of Will, Protection of Heorot, Resolve of Grael. Do not target farm Normal Blessings — reach Empowered Monolith as fast as possible.

Empowered Blessings (priority): Start with Grand Echo of Solarum or Grand Resolve of Humanity if resistance-capped; Grand Embers of Immortality for Endurance; Grand Bulwark of the Tundra for damage reduction. Once core defenses are covered, add Shadow Daggers–specific drop rate Blessings.

Leveling Path — Campaign to Dreamslash

Dreamslash becomes available after spending 10 points in the Bladedancer mastery tree. This typically happens in late Chapter 4 to early Chapter 5 in a normal leveling run.

Before Dreamslash (Chapters 1–4, Rogue base): Open with Shadow Rend + Puncture. At 10 Rogue passive tree points, replace Shadow Rend with Bladestorm. At character level 16, add Umbral Blades for a major clear speed boost.

Transition to Dreamslash (10 Bladedancer passive points): Replace Bladestorm (or Synchronized Strike if you used it as a bridge) with Dreamslash. Spec the Collapsing Shadows path immediately. The combination of Dreamslash + Umbral Blades + Shift is playable from this point forward and carries through all Normal Monolith timelines without any unique items.

Final leveling skill bar: Dreamslash — Shift — Umbral Blades — Smoke Bomb — Shadow Cascade (or Flurry)

The Bladedancer leveling guide at Maxroll (updated September 29, 2026) notes that the full build comes online at level 50 when Decoy can be spec'd in; however, the Dreamslash version replaces Synchronized Strike and is viable considerably earlier than level 50 for players who want to start the new skill sooner.

Season 5 Mechanic Synergy — Rage of Morditas

The Rage of Morditas mechanic appears in Campaign from Chapter 2 and in Empowered Monolith echoes via Blood Crystal interactables. The five Bloodrage Charge thresholds (20/50/90/140/200 kills → charges 1–5) reward fast kill speed during the encounter.

Dreamslash Bladedancer is well-suited for Morditas events:

  • Kill speed: Shadow Daggers is a Damage over Time ailment that stacks across multiple enemies simultaneously. Paired with Dreamslash's rapid multi-enemy dashing, the build naturally hits the 20-kill and 50-kill thresholds quickly, converting Monolith clears into Bloodrage Charges efficiently.
  • Phase two survivability: Phase two of the Morditas encounter revives all killed enemies in a gauntlet. High Dodge + Evasion + movement speed means the build survives the gauntlet without a dedicated defensive cooldown.
  • Ritual usage: Frozen Ritual locks a reward type (and grants Iceforging Potential bonuses to future drops). For the Dreamslash BD, Frozen Ritual on Exalted item slots compounds the gear acquisition loop at no additional investment.

Note: some Day 1 community reports describe a Temporal Keystone bag interaction with Empowered Morditas encounters that can accelerate corruption pushes significantly. This is unverified and may be patched — check current patch notes before building a strategy around it.

FAQ

What skills does the Dreamslash Bladedancer use in Season 5? The standard skill bar is Dreamslash (primary attack and movement), Shift (mobility and Umbral Blades trigger), Umbral Blades (persistent Shadow Daggers source at 3 stacks per second for 5+ seconds), Smoke Bomb (Shadow generation and Smoke Blades damage buff), and Shadow Cascade or Flurry. Flurry in the fifth slot is common for players using Recurring Dreams (4/4 in the Dreamslash tree), as Flurry refills mana cheaply between burst windows.

When does Dreamslash unlock in Season 5? Dreamslash requires 10 Bladedancer passive tree points. Bladedancer is the Rogue mastery. In a normal Season 5 leveling run with the Temporal Sanctum campaign skip optional, 10 Bladedancer points are reachable in late Chapter 4 to early Chapter 5.

Can Dreamslash have zero mana cost? Yes. The Distortion Blade node reduces Dreamslash's mana cost by 1 per point (maximum 3 points), which reduces the base cost of 3 to 0. The Gathering Darkness node imposes a minimum mana cost of 1 if allocated — don't take Gathering Darkness if you want the zero-mana version.

What is Collapsing Shadows in the Dreamslash skill tree? Collapsing Shadows gives each Dreamslash cast a 25% chance per point to inflict Shadow Daggers on hit. The infliction chance is doubled for any Shadows performing the attack. At full investment with three active Shadows, a single cast produces many independent Shadow Daggers stacks — this is the core of the Shadow Daggers delivery variant.

Is the Dreamslash Bladedancer good without unique items? Yes. The base version (Collapsing Shadows + Distortion Blade + passive tree priorities listed above) carries through Normal Monolith timelines without any unique item requirements. The endgame ceiling uniques — Siphon of Anguish, Smoke Weaver, and Carcinization of Momentum — are farming targets, not entry requirements.

What does Dexterity do for Dreamslash? Dreamslash gains 4% increased damage per point of Dexterity. This makes Dexterity a primary offensive stat for the build. Agility (a Rogue passive) converts Dexterity to movement speed and Haste at high thresholds, so stacking Dexterity serves both the damage scaling and the Evasion uptime goals simultaneously.

How does Death's Dance interact with Dreamslash Bladedancer? Death's Dance is a new Season 5 ultra-rare unique boot that removes the evade cooldown. For Bladedancer, the evade cooldown previously created windows where Shift was locked, temporarily dropping Evasion damage reduction. Removing that cooldown makes the defensive layer more consistent across all content phases, especially during extended boss fights.
