What is NBA Today in NBA 2K27?
NBA Today is the quick-play option inside Play Now that loads the real NBA games scheduled for the current date. Instead of picking two teams yourself, you pick from that day's actual matchups. Those games load with the current rosters. It's the fastest way to play "tonight's game" before or after watching it.
That convenience is also why it breaks. NBA Today doesn't ship with the game. It depends on live schedule data that 2K pushes from its servers once the real season is underway. Before that data arrives, the mode has nothing to show, so it reports that no games are scheduled even on a night with a full slate.
Play Now itself is a different case. Steam's NBA 2K27 listing says: "Play Now, MyNBA, and The W are available offline. All other game modes and features require Internet connection." (Steam, app 4356430). A standard Play Now game doesn't need 2K's servers. NBA Today, which needs that day's real schedule, does.
Why does NBA Today say "no games scheduled"?
Several players are reporting the same message, and they describe it the same way. One r/NBA2k post from October 24, 2026 says the mode "keeps saying there aren't any games scheduled" every day since the season started. Another, from October 23, asks when it will be fixed, "we are almost a week into the nba season." A third player reports the same "No games today" error.
There are three different problems people lump together as "NBA Today not working." It helps to know which one you have:

What can you actually fix yourself?
You can't make NBA Today show games before 2K turns the data on. You can rule out the two problems that look similar and do have a fix on your end.
1. Make sure you have the latest game data. NBA 2K Support's article for errors EFEAB30C and 4B538E50 says the most common cause is that "you don't have the latest data downloaded," and the official workaround is: "Generally, playing a couple of games in 'Play Now' mode is enough to trigger the download." When the update arrives, a prompt asks you to back out to the Main Menu so it can apply (NBA 2K Support, article 41944449322771). This is worth doing anyway. If 2K ships the NBA Today schedule with a data update, this is how your game will pick it up.
2. Don't delete your reserved space. The same support article warns that deleting a game's reserved space can cause data problems, including EFEAB30C. 2K's own wording: "Do not delete a game's reserved space on your hard drive." Some "fix NBA Today" advice online tells you to clear data or reserved space. Skip it.
3. Check whether it's a wider outage. If you're also getting dropped in The City, MyTEAM or the REC, NBA Today is just one symptom. Players on r/NBA2k reported connection drops around an October 23 update, including one who said "it says my connection has been lost" after about 15 seconds in an empty City. Those are player reports, not a 2K changelog, so treat the exact day loosely. The pattern is the useful part. NBA Today came back roughly four weeks after tip-off, and players simply reported it as working one day, which fits the schedule data being switched on from 2K's side.
The "three months" figure for NBA 2K24 is a single unverified comment. We wouldn't plan around it. NBA 2K23 also had a "no NBA games scheduled today" thread, but that was posted in August, in the NBA offseason, when the message was correct.
For NBA 2K27, a fair expectation is somewhere between "any day now" and mid-to-late November 2026. The NBA Cup group stage starts October 30, 2026 (nba.com), and the schedule gets denser from there, so it's worth checking NBA Today every few days. 2K has given no date, and we won't invent one.
How to play tonight's real NBA games while NBA Today is down
You don't need NBA Today to play the real slate. It just saves a few menu presses. Here's the manual version:
- Check tonight's real schedule on nba.com/schedule or the NBA app.
- Open Play Now and pick the same two teams, with the real home team at home.
- Use the latest official roster. 2K updates ratings during the season (its own line on the ratings page: "Throughout the 2026-2027 NBA season, the OVR ratings will fluctuate based on real performances"), so the current roster is as close as Play Now gets to tonight's game.
- Play it before or after the real game and compare. That's most of what NBA Today offers.
