Quick answer: The fastest way to farm Pal Souls in Palworld 1.0 is to split the job by soul size. Small, Medium and Large souls pour out of normal play and the crafting ladder, so the real grind is Giant Pal Souls — ranks 11–20 of every stat. The three best Giant-soul routes that don't require breed-and-butcher are: (1) run Pal Expeditions from all four bases (players report ~100 Giant souls per high-tier expedition); (2) magnet-fish salvage spots around Feybreak with a water mount (200–300 Giant souls a run); and (3) hunt Predator Pals, which drop 1–4 Giant souls at a 100% rate. One fully maxed Pal needs 208 souls total (120 of them Giant), so pick a route and let it run.
Pal Souls are the single most overlooked power spike in Palworld 1.0. Condensing and stat fruits get all the attention, but a Statue of Power quietly hands every Pal +60% to a stat — Health, Attack, Defense, or Work Speed — and nothing in the game stops you from stacking all four. This guide covers what each soul size is worth, exactly how many you need, where every tier drops, and the three no-butcher farms players are actually using right now. It applies to Palworld 1.0 on the current build (v1.0.5, released September 15, 2026 — a texture/map-icon hotfix that did not touch the soul system).
If your endgame plan is to clear the Lv.80 World Tree and Hard Mode towers, your Pals need this on top of condensing. And if your goal is a base that crafts, mines and farms twice as fast, the Work Speed souls are the cheapest leveling multiplier in the game — more on that below.
If the climb to 80 is the part you want to skip, our Palworld leveling service handles it on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, on your own world or a dedicated server.

What do Pal Souls do in Palworld?
Pal Souls are spent at a Statue of Power to permanently raise one of a Pal's four core stats:
- Max Health
- Attack
- Defense
- Work Speed
Each stat has 20 enhancement ranks, and every rank adds +3%, for a maximum of +60% per stat on top of everything else (condensing, Trust, stat fruits, Awakening). The boost is permanent, applies instantly, and — unlike Awakening — is fully refundable: resetting a Pal at the Statue of Power returns every soul you spent in exchange for Gold Coins. A fully enhanced Pal costs 848,000 Gold to reset, so plan before you dump 120 Giant souls into a Pal you might replace.
Work Speed is the sleeper pick. Most guides treat Pal Souls as a combat upgrade. But +60% Work Speed on your core base workers — a Handiwork Solenne, a Kindling Renjishi, a Watering Shaolong — compounds with their Work Suitability level and work-speed passives, turning a base into a materials engine. That is the direct tie to leveling: faster crafting = faster passive XP and faster gear, which is exactly what a boost is buying you.
How many Pal Souls do you need?
The rank table is the whole reason this guide exists. Souls are tiered by size, and higher ranks demand bigger souls:
- Ranks 1–4 cost Small Pal Souls (1, 2, 3, 4 per rank)
- Ranks 5–7 cost Medium Pal Souls (1, 2, 3)
- Ranks 8–10 cost Large Pal Souls (1, 2, 3)
- Ranks 11–20 cost Giant Pal Souls (1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4)
Add it up and one stat to +60% costs 52 souls: 10 Small, 6 Medium, 6 Large, and 30 Giant. Maxing all four stats on a single Pal costs 208 souls total — and 120 of those are Giant, per the Palworld wiki's own trivia (40 Small, 24 Medium, 24 Large, 120 Giant).
So Giant Pal Souls are literally the entire top half of every upgrade. Small through Large you will accumulate passively just by playing; Giant souls are the bottleneck, and the rest of this guide is mostly about them.
Soul costs per Pal (all four stats)
| Soul size | Used for ranks | Per stat (to +60%) | All 4 stats |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small Pal Soul | 1–4 | 10 | 40 |
| Medium Pal Soul | 5–7 | 6 | 24 |
| Large Pal Soul | 8–10 | 6 | 24 |
| Giant Pal Soul | 11–20 | 30 | 120 |
| Total | 1–20 | 52 | 208 |
Where to get Small, Medium and Large Pal Souls
You almost never need to farm these three — they arrive on their own:
- Small Pal Souls are found lying on the ground throughout the map, drop from low-tier dark/neutral Pals (Daedream Nox, Cawgnito, Maraith, Felbat, Tombat, among others), and can also come from Nitemary's Partner Skill. They're the soul size you'll trip over for free.
- Medium Pal Souls are crafted from 2 Small Pal Souls at a Crusher, and drop at a 100% rate from Pals like Menasting. Twilight Dunes and Mt. Obsidian are dense spawn zones.
- Large Pal Souls are crafted from 2 Medium, and drop at 100% from strong Pals — Anubis is the go-to (reliable, high-level on the main island) — plus they show up in Feybreak, the Astral Mountains and Sakurajima.
The whole tier is a crafting ladder: 2 Small make 1 Medium, 2 Medium make 1 Large, and 2 Large make 1 Giant at the Crusher. So if you're drowning in Large souls, you can convert upward into Giants — but at a 2:1 ratio every step, it's a top-up, not your primary Giant-soul farm.

How to farm Giant Pal Souls (without butchering)
Here is the problem every endgame player hits, straight from the Palworld subreddit: "Best way to get giant souls without butchering?" The brute-force method is to breed Giant-soul Pals at Lv.1 in bulk and feed them into a Pal Disassembly Conveyor — effective, but tedious, and it means babysitting hatch timers. These three routes avoid it.
1. Pal Expeditions — the AFK farm (best overall)
Pal Expeditions are the cleanest Giant-soul source in the game because they run while you do literally anything else. You unlock the Pal Expedition Station at Technology Level 15; dispatched Pals head off to dungeons, fight, and haul resources — including Giant Pal Souls — back to your base. High-tier expeditions pay the best, and the volume is genuinely large: one r/Palworld farmer reports "it's like 100 giant [souls] for one expedition. You can run 4 at a time if you build up enough pals for it, so about 400 giant souls every 40 minutes if you min/max."
The key trick is to run expeditions from all four of your bases at once rather than tunneling on a single high-tier one. As another r/Palworld player put it, "lower tier ones give more souls per expedition power, so you get more by running expeditions from multiple bases. It's only worth upgrading to World Tree expeditions if you're already getting max reward from all four bases." Spread expeditions across every base and your souls-per-real-hour climbs fast.
2. Magnet-fishing salvage spots on Feybreak
This is the route that barely shows up in written guides but is the community's favorite, and the yields rival expeditions. Salvage spots are underwater debris piles you clear by holding Salvage with a Powerful Fishing Magnet. One r/Palworld player sums up the loop: "Have a water mount and 4 condensed Jellroys in your team and go magnet fishing around Feybreak Island. I return with 200–300 Giant Pal Souls each run." The setup:
- Take a water mount (Jellroy, Azurobe or any fast swimmer) and ride the coastline around Feybreak and Sakurajima, the two richest salvage zones.
- Bring Powerful Fishing Magnets — each salvage pull consumes one.
- Bring condensed hauler Pals so you don't get overburdened; you'll pull a ton of coralum ore as a bonus.
It's active rather than idle, but it doubles as a coralum-ore run, so you're farming two endgame materials on one loop.
3. Hunt Predator Pals
Predator Pals — the "rampaging" red-aura variants that spawn at set map locations — are prime Giant-soul targets. In Palworld 1.0 every Predator Pal drops Predator Cores and Giant Pal Souls when defeated, at a 100% rate, between 1 and 4 per kill (source: pindrop.gg's loot-table data). Because the drop is guaranteed, a strong nuke Pal turns a Predator sweep into a soul farm — and since they respawn, you can loop the same spots.
Stack a drop-rate booster: keep a Pal with a drop-boosting partner skill (such as Nitemary) in your active party while hunting Predators to raise the per-kill haul.
The breeding route (if you don't mind the conveyor)
For completeness: Aegidron, Silvance and Dandilord each guarantee a Giant Pal Soul when disassembled. The deterministic farm is to breed these in bulk at Lv.1, hatch them, and run them through a Pal Disassembly Conveyor while keeping the original parents alive. It's the highest ceiling, but it's the butchering-adjacent grind most players are trying to avoid — the three routes above exist precisely to skip it. (Note: Panthalus is a story-gated Pal you should capture, not kill — it's needed in your party to open the World Tree, so don't feed it to a conveyor.)
Which Pal should get your souls first?
Souls are expensive, so spend them where the percentage does the most work:
- Your main combat/mount Pal (Jetragon, Orserk, a maxed Astegon) — the +60% Attack and Health is what gets you through the Lv.80 Zenara & Astralym fight and Hard Mode towers.
- Your top base workers' Work Speed — a +60% Work Speed Solenne or Shaolong pays for itself every minute the base is running.
- Defense last, and only on Pals you actually fight with.
Stack souls on top of a 4-star condensed, stat-fruited, high-Trust Pal — the multipliers are separate, so a fully kitted Pal with all four maxed is dramatically stronger than any single upgrade suggests. If you'd rather skip the grind entirely and jump straight to a cap-ready roster, that's exactly what a leveling boost is for.

FAQ
What is the fastest way to farm Giant Pal Souls in Palworld? Running Pal Expeditions from all four bases simultaneously is the best idle route — players report around 100 Giant Pal Souls per high-tier expedition, and spreading expeditions across multiple bases out-yields tunneling on a single one. For an active farm, magnet-fish salvage spots around Feybreak (200–300 souls a run) or hunt Predator Pals, which each drop 1–4 Giant souls at a 100% rate.
How do I get Giant Pal Souls without butchering? Use expeditions, salvage-spot magnet fishing on Feybreak, or Predator Pal hunting. All three give Giant Pal Souls without breeding Pals down to Lv.1 and running them through a Pal Disassembly Conveyor. You can also craft 1 Giant Pal Soul from 2 Large Pal Souls at a Crusher if you have Large souls to spare.
How many Pal Souls do I need to fully upgrade a Pal? 208 souls to max all four stats on one Pal: 40 Small, 24 Medium, 24 Large, and 120 Giant. A single stat to +60% costs 52 souls (10 Small, 6 Medium, 6 Large, 30 Giant). Giant souls make up the entire ranks 11–20 of every stat.
What do Pal Souls do? Spent at a Statue of Power, each soul rank adds +3% to a Pal's Max Health, Attack, Defense, or Work Speed, up to 20 ranks and +60% per stat. The bonus is permanent, stacks with condensing/stat fruits/Awakening, and is refundable for Gold Coins if you reset the Pal.
Where do Small, Medium and Large Pal Souls come from? Small souls lie on the ground across the map and drop from low-tier Pals (Daedream Nox, Cawgnito, Maraith, Felbat, Tombat). Medium souls craft from 2 Small at a Crusher and drop from Pals like Menasting. Large souls craft from 2 Medium and drop at 100% from strong Pals like Anubis. The tiers form a Crusher ladder: 2 Small → Medium, 2 Medium → Large, 2 Large → Giant.
Can I reset Pal Souls if I spend them on the wrong Pal? Yes. The Statue of Power refunds every soul in exchange for Gold Coins — a full reset of a maxed Pal costs 848,000 Gold. You can't reset a single stat, only the whole Pal at once.
