If your feed is full of screenshots captioned "Mageblood from Interlude Ritual…HUH?!", you saw it right. In Path of Exile 2's Forbidden Rites event (patch 0.5.5, live since September 4, 2026), the campaign Rituals that end a boss cluster open a Unique-item Tribute shop — and that shop can, rarely, offer a chase Unique like Mageblood or Sire of Stars while you are still leveling. This guide explains what is actually happening, which Rituals can do it, how the odds and Tribute economy really work, and how to spend so you don't torch the one roll that mattered.
Quick answer: Normal campaign Rituals in 0.5.5 pay leveling currency and equipment, not Uniques. The exception is the boss-Ritual clusters — twice per Act and once per Interlude, a cluster of Effigies sits on a zone boss. Beat the whole boss series and the final Ritual's reward window switches to Unique items you buy with Tribute. That Unique pool is where the viral Mageblood/Sire of Stars screenshots come from. It is real but rare, so bank Tribute and don't reroll it away.

Are the Mageblood screenshots real?
Yes. They come from the boss-Ritual clusters, not from ordinary campaign Rituals. GGG's 0.5.5 notes are explicit that the everyday campaign Ritual "unlike their Endgame counterparts…provide items useful for levelling, such as Currency for crafting your gear, alongside a bunch of equipment." No Uniques there.
The twist is the cluster structure. Per the official patch notes: "Twice within each Act, and once within each Interlude, you'll find clusters of Ritual Effigies on the World Map…on top of that area's boss fight. Defeat these boss Rituals and the boss will then be carried forward and added to the next Ritual in the cluster in the next area…Upon completing the series of boss encounters you'll be able to spend your tribute on Unique Items." That final Unique shop is the one that can roll a high-end Unique — which is why a fresh character with no Atlas passives and no juice is posting Mageblood at the end of a boss cluster.
So the honest framing: campaign Rituals ≠ Unique lottery; boss-Ritual clusters = a Unique Tribute shop. Learn to tell them apart on the World Map and you stop walking past the only Rituals that can hand you a build-defining item early.
How the boss-Ritual clusters work in 0.5.5
Three things separate a boss cluster from a normal campaign Ritual:
- Location tell. Regular campaign Effigies spawn in a random spot in the zone. Cluster Effigies spawn on the zone boss arena — the World Map marks the cluster, and the Effigies are stacked on the boss.
- The boss carries forward. Kill the boss inside the Ritual and it is added to the next Ritual in the cluster in the next area, stacking into "an increasingly dangerous series of boss waves." A cluster is a mini gauntlet, not one fight.
- The payout flips to Uniques. Finish the boss series and the reward window "spawns exclusively uniques for you to purchase" with Tribute. This is the only place in the campaign the reward pool is Uniques instead of currency/gear.
| Ritual type | Where it spawns | What Tribute buys | Can it drop Mageblood? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal campaign Ritual | Random spot in the zone | Leveling currency + equipment | No |
| Boss-Ritual cluster (final Ritual) | On the zone boss arena | Unique items | Yes — rarely, from the Unique pool |
| Endgame Ritual | Maps | Uniques, Omens, Sacred Bloom | Yes (endgame pool) |
Frequency matters for planning: you get two clusters per Act and one per Interlude, so a full campaign run through Acts 1–3 plus Interludes is roughly 8–10 Unique-shop chances on a single character before you ever touch the endgame.
Why a random Mageblood is possible — and why it's rare
The Unique shop shows a randomized selection of Uniques you can buy with the Tribute you banked in that cluster. The pool skews toward leveling and mid-tier Uniques, but high-end items are in the table, which is exactly why the odd Mageblood or Sire of Stars slips through. Two levers decide whether you can actually take it:
- Did that specific Unique get offered? You can only buy what the shop rolled. Most windows are ordinary Uniques; the chase items are the long tail.
- Can you afford it? Chase Uniques carry a large Tribute price. If you spent your Tribute earlier in the cluster on smaller items, the Mageblood offer is there and you simply can't pay — the single most common "I saw it and lost it" story.
That second lever is the whole game. Treat cluster Tribute like a savings account: bank it, don't nibble. A few skipped junk Uniques early is the price of being able to snipe the one roll that changes your league.
Reroll, defer, and the new "emergency" notable
Forbidden Rites kept the reroll/defer tools and added a safety net you should understand before you brick a good offer:
- Reroll re-rolls the Unique selection for a Tribute cost. Useful when the window is all junk and you still have a healthy Tribute balance.
- Defer sets an item aside so a reroll can't remove it. Watch this in 0.5.5 — players report deferred items expiring much faster than in 0.5, sometimes red by the next reroll. Until GGG confirms whether that's intended or a bug, don't lean on long defer chains; grab the item while it's live.
- The new "emergency" Ritual notable. GGG added a Notable that protects you "from rerolling into an expensive item without enough Tribute to pay for it." It reuses already-offered Tribute, but at 500% increased cost — an expensive bail-out, not a free one. It exists precisely because people were rolling into a dream Unique they couldn't afford.
Rule of thumb: reroll only with Tribute to spare, defer only what you intend to buy this window, and never assume a deferred item survives the next roll.

How to actually spend Tribute (leveling vs. sniping)
Two clean strategies, pick per character:
- Leveling-first (most characters): In normal campaign Rituals, spend on leveling currency and any gear slot you're behind on — this funds crafting and gets your build online, which is the entire point of campaign Rituals per the patch notes. Don't hoard here; this Tribute doesn't reach the Unique shop.
- Cluster-sniping (the Mageblood play): Inside a boss cluster, flip the mindset. Save Tribute across the boss waves, skip small Unique buys, and hold a fat balance for the final window. If a chase Unique appears and you can pay, take it. If not, buy the best value Unique offered and move on — a guaranteed useful Unique beats an empty reroll gamble.
A blunt expected-value note: you will finish most clusters with no chase Unique offered. That's fine. The clusters still hand you real currency, gear, and mid-tier Uniques that accelerate the campaign — the Mageblood is upside, not the plan.
What to do with the currency this generates
Campaign Rituals exist to fund your crafting — that's the design. Whether you snipe a Unique or bank orbs, you'll leave the campaign with more Divine, Exalted, and Chaos than a normal start, and the fastest way to convert that head start into a finished build is to top up the exact orbs your craft needs instead of grinding for them.
Turn a Ritual head-start into a finished build faster:
- PoE2 Divine Orbs — instant delivery, trusted, best rate
- PoE2 Exalted Orbs — fast & secure
- PoE2 Currency (all orbs) — divine · chaos · exalted · more
- PoE2 Leveling & Boss Carries — skip the campaign grind, pro players clear the boss clusters for you
If the boss waves are killing you before the Unique window — a real problem when your build isn't online yet — a carry through the cluster gets you to the Unique shop alive and with Tribute intact.
FAQ
Can you really get Mageblood from a campaign Ritual in PoE2 0.5.5? Only from the boss-Ritual clusters, not from ordinary campaign Rituals. Normal campaign Rituals pay leveling currency and equipment; the final Ritual of a boss cluster opens a Unique-item Tribute shop, and Mageblood is a rare roll in that pool. Regular Rituals cannot offer it.
How do I find the boss-Ritual clusters? Watch the World Map. Twice per Act and once per Interlude, a cluster of Ritual Effigies is marked on the zone boss arena instead of a random spot. Those are the clusters whose final reward window flips to Uniques.
Why did I see a Unique offered but couldn't buy it? You didn't have enough Tribute. Chase Uniques carry a large price, so if you spent Tribute earlier in the cluster you can't afford the big offer. Bank Tribute across the boss waves and hold it for the final window.
Are my deferred Ritual items expiring too fast in 0.5.5? Several players report deferred items expiring much faster than in 0.5 — sometimes by the next reroll. It's unconfirmed whether this is intended or a bug, so don't rely on long defer chains; buy the item while it's still live.
What is the "emergency" Ritual notable? A new Notable that protects you from rerolling into a Unique you can't pay for. It lets you use already-offered Tribute, but at 500% increased cost — a pricey safety net, not a free save.
Is it worth saving Tribute for a Mageblood gamble? Inside a boss cluster, yes — save it, because that's the only place a chase Unique can appear and the price is high. In normal campaign Rituals, no — spend that Tribute on leveling currency and gear, since it never reaches the Unique shop.
