Tarkov Halloween Event 2026: Start Date, Nikita's Zombie Labs Teasers & How to Prep Before It Drops

The Tarkov Halloween event 2026 has not started yet, but Battlestate Games has stopped pretending it isn't coming. On October 25 and 26, studio head Nikita Buyanov posted a run of teaser shots: a jack-o'-lantern face burned into a wall, PMCs fighting through smoke, and a dark room stamped with the LABS logo. Players spotted what looks like a lab-coat zombie at the edge of one frame. This guide covers what is confirmed for the 2026 event, what four years of Tarkov Halloween events tell us to expect, the likely start window, and what to sort out in your stash now so you are not stuck grinding when it goes live. Everything here is current for patch 1.2.5.0 (live build 1.2.5.0.48146) during Season 1 "KORD BREACH", per the official wiki changelog.

Quick answer: As of October 26, 2026, BSG has not announced a start date for the Halloween event. Nikita Buyanov's teasers point to a zombie-themed event centred on The Lab, and he called it "pretty big" with "a surprise". Past Halloween events started on Oct 27 (2022), Oct 26 (2023), Oct 31 (2024) and Oct 22 (2025), so expect a launch in the last days of October. The Scourge Incursion, the Labs event running before it, was extended until October 26, 7:00 AM GMT. The last zombie event (2024) added 23 limited-time quests, opened The Lab without a keycard, and made Scavs and bosses friendly unless provoked. Prep now: clear your backlog of normal tasks, stock roubles in the zone you play, and keep bottles of vodka/whiskey/moonshine in case the 2024 Scav-friendship trick returns. (EFT Wiki – Events)

When does the Tarkov Halloween event 2026 start?

There is no official date yet. Nikita's posts did not name one, and as of October 26 we found no date on BSG's official channels, including the official EFT X account. The best evidence is three things together:

  • The roadmap. BSG's preliminary end-of-2026 roadmap (published in late August) put a Halloween event in October, next to the Unity 6 engine upgrade. It was labelled preliminary, and the Unity 6 upgrade hasn't arrived yet either, so treat "October" as a target, not a promise.
  • The Scourge Incursion just ended. The Labs event from October 16 was extended. The official account wrote: "The in-game event 'Scourge Incursion' in #EscapefromTarkov has been extended until October 26, 7:00 AM GMT / 3:00 AM EDT." With that event over, The Lab is free for whatever comes next.
  • History. Tarkov's last four Halloween events all started between October 22 and October 31.

Our read: a launch between October 28 and October 31 is our best guess, likely with a trailer shortly before. When BSG posts an official date we will update this page.

What has Nikita actually teased for Halloween 2026?

Nikita Buyanov has been posting images since October 25. In his most recent post, as reported by Insider Gaming, he wrote:

"halloween event is getting prepared 24/7. Its pretty big and has a surprise for you guys. Hold on!" — Nikita Buyanov, head of Battlestate Games

What the teasers show (via ixbt.games, image source Battlestate Games):

  • An in-game jack-o'-lantern face projected on a wall. This is the header image of this guide.
  • Live-action shots of a squad in smoke and red light, filmed with a camera rig. That looks like a new event trailer being shot.
  • A dark room with gas cylinders and a machine branded LABS, which places the event in The Lab.
  • One frame where players spotted a figure in a lab coat, no gun, arms raised, the classic zombie pose.

2026 teaser still: a PMC in a dark Labs room with gas cylinders and a LABS-branded machine

What is not confirmed: whether zombies return on every map, whether the event runs in PvE ZONE, PvP ZONE and PvP Season, new quests, rewards, or how long it lasts. Treat anything you read about those as speculation until patch notes land.

Why are players worried about "aimbot zombies"?

The community reaction in the teaser threads is mostly one joke. Players expect "aimbot zombies" because the AI in the current build already hits hard. In the 2024 event, some infected carried pistols, and fans are now asking BSG not to add "sniper zombies" (ixbt.games). That worry has a basis. The 1.2.5.0 patch on October 16 toned down PvE PMC bots so they react to gunfire from shorter range and spend less time in cover. Four days later, on October 20, BSG cut Scourge and his guards' health, field of view and detection speed and increased their spread at range (wiki changelog). If the new infected use the same AI, expect another balance hotfix in week one.

What happened in the last Tarkov zombie event (Halloween 2024)?

If 2026 is a zombie event, the Halloween 2024 event is the best template. It started on October 31, 2024, and the wiki records:

  • An unknown disease spread from The Lab to the whole region. A live page at escapefromtarkov.com/halloween tracked how infected each map was.
  • Infected civilians, lab technicians and PMCs roamed the maps, attacking with hands, knives and pistols. Tagilla was infected too and carried a scythe on every map.
  • Getting hit gave you the Virus effect: hearing drops out for a moment and hydration falls. It only cleared on extract or death.
  • Scavs and bosses were friendly to players unless provoked, even on maps the infection hadn't reached.
  • The Lab needed no TerraGroup Labs access keycard for the whole event.
  • A new containment block opened in The Lab near the quarantine zone.
  • Player Scavs could make the infected friendly by drinking 2 bottles of Tarkovskaya vodka, Dan Jackiel whiskey or Fierce Hatchling moonshine.
  • 23 new quests were added, from Don't Believe Your Eyes to Forced Measure.

The containment block is worth knowing because the 2026 teasers are also set in The Lab. It sat off the first level, south of the Infirmary:

How did the other Tarkov Halloween events work?

Not every Tarkov Halloween is zombies. BSG switches between a cultist theme and a Tagilla / infection theme, and the details explain what to stock up on.

Halloween 2025 (Oct 22, 2025): cultist year. Cultists spawned more often, and three special cultists, Oni, Harbinger and Ghost, appeared on Customs, Woods and Shoreline in the spots where the Goons normally roam. Tagilla carried a scythe, Scavs carried signal pistols, AI wore Jack-o'-lantern pumpkin helmets, and pumpkins with sweets spawned as loot. If you want the cultist side, our Cultist Priest boss guide covers their spawns and loot.

Halloween 2023 (Oct 26 and Oct 30, 2023): a two-part event. Part 2 added a cultist ritual on every map except Factory and The Lab. Killing the roaming Zryachiy closed all extracts but one, switched the raid to night and started a 6 minute 30 second ritual by six cultist priests. If you didn't stop it, Vengeful Zryachiy spawned with much more health and hunted players. Your guns also stopped working: weapons misfired permanently, so only non-jamming options like revolvers, the PPSh-41, the MTs-255-12, underbarrel grenade launchers and frag grenades were reliable.

Halloween 2022 (Oct 27, 2022): Tagilla spawned on every map with 1,900 HP and a scythe, cultists appeared everywhere except The Lab, each raid gave you a random negative status effect, and guns jammed more often. That year also introduced the "Dooomed" website counter, which triggered 30-minute in-game events when it reached 666,666.

The pattern is clear: scythe Tagilla has shown up every year since 2022, events usually hit The Lab or Labs-linked lore, and the big ones add a quest chain with limited time to finish it. For Tagilla's normal behaviour, see our Tagilla boss guide.

How should you prep for the Halloween event in Tarkov?

Event quests run against a clock. In 2024 the quest chain had 23 tasks, and players who had a pile of normal tasks still open spent the event doing those first. Here is the prep order we'd use this week.

1. Clear your normal task backlog first

Our advice: event chains may build on your existing trader progress, so if you are still stuck on mid-game tasks, finish them before launch day so the event time goes into event quests. Our recent quest guides cover the common blockers: Goals and Means and The Ticket.

2. Have Labs access sorted

Every 2026 teaser points at The Lab. In 2024 the keycard requirement was dropped, but don't count on that again. During the Scourge Incursion, Therapist sold TerraGroup Labs access keycards at loyalty level 2 (wiki), and that was tied to the event. Our advice: keep a spare keycard in your stash and learn the layout with our Labs money guide.

3. Stock roubles in the zone you actually play

PvP ZONE, PvE ZONE and PvP Season have separate economies and separate flea markets, so roubles in one profile do nothing for another. Events burn money fast: more deaths, more meds, AP ammo for armoured enemies. Aim for a buffer of a few million in the zone you'll play the event in. Our fastest roubles guide ranks the current methods.

4. Keep bottles and pumpkin-era junk

Three bottles came up in 2024: Tarkovskaya vodka, Dan Jackiel whiskey and Fierce Hatchling moonshine, and Zryachiy dropped vodka and moonshine during the 2023 ritual. They mattered in past events, so keeping a few in your stash costs little.

5. Bring guns that don't jam

Two of the last four events messed with weapon reliability, with more jams in 2022 and permanent misfires against Vengeful Zryachiy in 2023. A revolver or a pump shotgun in your secure-stash kit is cheap insurance.

6. Expect fast bot balance changes

The last two weeks show BSG can hotfix AI within days. Don't buy into the hype or the panic on day one. Play a couple of raids, read the patch notes, then commit gear.

No time to grind event quests on top of your normal tasks? Let a pro finish the backlog while you play the event.

Will the Halloween event affect Kappa or Season 1 progress?

Nothing is announced. In past years, Halloween quests were limited-time event chains added on top of the normal task list. Season 1 "KORD BREACH" is still running, and the in-game season timer points to December 7, 2026. A late-October event lands right in the last six weeks of the season, so a seasonal character gets about six weeks of use from anything the event hands out. If you're behind on the Collector, our Collector checklist is the place to start.

What did the Scourge Incursion set up?

The Scourge Incursion (October 16, extended to October 26) was a Labs story event. A squad of unknown operatives led by an Arena champion, Scourge, got into the TerraGroup complex, and six quests had players investigate what they wanted. The official blurb ended on "Take part in the investigation to uncover what they're looking for in the Lab." Nikita's new teasers are set in the same place, and the 2024 zombie outbreak also started in The Lab. Our Scourge Incursion guide has the full breakdown. It's speculation, but the Labs storyline seems to be heading into Halloween.

FAQ

When is the Tarkov Halloween event 2026? As of October 26, 2026, BSG has not announced a date. Past events started between October 22 and October 31, and the Scourge Incursion ended on October 26, so expect it in the last days of October.

Are zombies coming back to Tarkov in 2026? Nothing is official, but it's very likely. Nikita Buyanov's teasers show The Lab and what looks like a lab-coat zombie, and the last infection event in 2024 also started in The Lab.

How long does the Tarkov Halloween event last? It varies from year to year. BSG usually announces the end date in-game or on its X account once the event is live, and it often extends events, as it did with the Scourge Incursion.

Will the Halloween event be in PvE? Not confirmed for 2026. Check the official patch notes on launch day before you plan around it. PvE ZONE has its own economy and flea market, so prep roubles in the profile you'll actually use.

Do I need a Labs keycard for the Halloween event? In 2024, no: The Lab needed no TerraGroup Labs access keycard for the whole event. That isn't guaranteed this year, so carry one.

What is the "Dooomed" counter in Tarkov? It was a website counter from Halloween 2022 that triggered 30-minute in-game events when it hit 666,666. It isn't part of the 2026 event as of October 26.
