WARDOGS Removed the Blue Team (Lonestar) Cash and XP Bonus — What Changed One Day Into Season 2

One day after WARDOGS Season 2 went live, BULKHEAD pulled the most talked-about change in the update: the Blue Team (Lonestar) cash and XP bonus. The studio had launched Season 2 on 15 October 2026 with a faction-specific experiment — extra in-game Cash and XP for Lonestar players only — meant to rehabilitate the game's perennial underdog. Within 24 hours it was gone, cancelled in an emergency update, with CEO Joe Brammer saying plainly: "We were wrong. We f***ed up." If you picked Lonestar yesterday because of that bonus, here's exactly what changed, why it backfired, and what it means for how you play Season 2 now.

Quick answer: BULKHEAD removed the Season 2 Blue Team (Lonestar) bonus — a Lonestar-only +5% in-game Cash and +2.5% XP boost — about one day after it went live on 15 October 2026. The goal was to lift Lonestar's low win rate, but skilled players flooded Blue Team to farm the extra Cash and XP, unlocked gear faster, and the faction the bonus was meant to help started dominating instead. CEO Joe Brammer announced the immediate cancellation in a video, calling it a mistake. The bonus is no longer active on any server; pick your faction on the merits again, not for a reward multiplier.

This is a correction to our own Season 2 Day 1 guide, which covered the Lonestar bonus while it was live. Everything below is pinned to the 15–16 October 2026 window (Update 0.2.0), and the live numbers were re-checked before publishing.

What was the WARDOGS Blue Team (Lonestar) bonus?

Lonestar — the blue faction, one of WARDOGS' three teams alongside green Manticore and red Valkyra — has been the butt of the community's jokes since early access launched in September. Its win rate sat far below the other two: BULKHEAD co-founder Howard Philpott said Lonestar won roughly 10% of matches in alpha, climbing to around 15–20% in the weeks after launch. Much of that gap is reputational — a self-fulfilling prophecy where competitive players avoid Blue specifically because it has a reputation for losing, which concentrates less-experienced players on the team and keeps the win rate down.

Season 2's answer was a direct incentive. For Lonestar players only, BULKHEAD switched on a bonus: +5% in-game Cash and +2.5% XP. Cash is the lifeblood of WARDOGS — you re-buy your loadout every deployment, and expensive gear sits behind both a level gate and a Cash price — so a standing 5% cash edge is not cosmetic. The hypothesis, as BULKHEAD framed it, was that more skilled players would give Lonestar a chance for the reward, raise its win rate, and break the losing-reputation cycle. It was pitched internally as roughly a one-week experiment.

Why did BULKHEAD remove the Blue Team bonus so fast?

Because it did the opposite of what it was designed to do. The bonus worked as an incentive — it just incentivised the wrong outcome. Skilled, optimisation-minded players saw a free +5% Cash / +2.5% XP and flooded onto Lonestar to farm it. With better players and a resource advantage, Blue started unlocking powerful gear faster and winning more — so the faction the bonus was meant to prop up began dominating matches. One day in, the "weakest team" had been turned into the strongest by the very fix meant to balance it.

Brammer owned it directly. In a video announcing the immediate cancellation, the BULKHEAD CEO said "We were wrong. We f***ed up," and acknowledged the studio had underestimated how quickly players would chase the reward. He pushed back on one specific criticism — that BULKHEAD had ignored deeper balance problems — pointing to reworked spawn locations on the Bakurani map and saying the team had tested those changes. But on the bonus itself, the verdict was unambiguous: the approach didn't work, and it was removed via an emergency update rather than left running for the planned week.

As reported by Rock, Paper, Shotgun, the scheme was "end[ed] ... after a single, tumultuous day," with the bonus cancelled immediately rather than iterated on.

What else did BULKHEAD address — the Driver track

The Blue Team bonus wasn't the only Season 2 launch complaint. BULKHEAD also acknowledged frustration with rapid Driver-track progression — players felt the Driver class was levelling faster than intended relative to the other tracks (Career, Medic, Support, Pilot, Recon). That's a separate issue from the faction bonus, but it landed in the same 24-hour window and the same round of fixes, which is part of why Season 2's opening day felt turbulent. If you were levelling Driver specifically to exploit a fast curve, expect that to be tuned.

The broader pattern here is a studio iterating in public at high speed. BULKHEAD has been explicit that it ships, watches, and corrects: it did exactly that at the Season 1 launch review bomb (largely a server-capacity issue that eased within about 48 hours), and it's doing it again now. That's worth knowing before you refund over a day-one wobble.

How should you pick your faction now?

Pick on the merits, not the multiplier — because the multiplier is gone. With the bonus removed, there is no mechanical reward for choosing Lonestar over Manticore or Valkyra. A few practical points for Season 2:

  • No faction pays more Cash or XP. All three teams earn on the same rules now. The quickest way to rebuild Cash and level is still objective play, not team choice — BULKHEAD on the store page: "Every teamplay action you perform rewards cash. From reviving squadmates, transporting friendlies to the zone, or controlling the objective."
  • The Hot Zone is the real cash lever. The shifting Hot Zone inside the Control Zone pays double Cash and counts double toward control. That's server-wide and faction-neutral — the highest-value square on the map regardless of which team you're on.
  • Lonestar's win rate is still the open question. The underdog problem the bonus tried to solve hasn't gone away; it's just back to being a balance-and-reputation issue BULKHEAD will address another way. If you like playing the underdog, nothing stops you — just don't expect to be paid extra for it.

Is WARDOGS Season 2 still worth playing after this?

Yes — a reverted experiment is a sign the studio is watching, not a sign the season is broken. On a live check on 17 October 2026, WARDOGS was reading around 171,000 concurrent players on Steam (the count moves hourly, so re-check before reading too much into it), and its all-time review standing was "Mostly Positive" across roughly 123,000 reviews. Season 2 itself added four weapons (TCX-SPR, M14, PP-19 Bizon, Evo-3 Ultra), four vehicles including the T-72B3 and the Flakpanzer Gepard anti-air platform, a Molotov, a rain weather preset, and a Wager Vendor. The Blue Team bonus was one experimental dial among a large content drop — and BULKHEAD turning it off within a day is the system working, not failing.

If you came back for Season 2 and reset to zero, the grind back to your old loadout is the real work — and that's where you decide how to spend your launch week.

Rebuild your Season 2 progression the fast way

The Blue Team bonus is gone, so there's no shortcut baked into faction choice anymore. Climbing back to the level and Cash you had before the wipe is the ordinary Season 2 grind — the XP curve is steep by design and the big unlocks sit a long way up each track. If you'd rather spend launch week playing the new content than re-grinding the ladder, our WARDOGS services can carry the load:

Starting Season 2 from zero and want your power back fast? These are demand-ranked for the post-reset grind:

  • WARDOGS Cash — rebuild your spendable balance so you can kit out a proper loadout from match one, instead of nursing the one-time $10,000 grant.
  • WARDOGS Career Leveling — push your WARDOG career level back up to re-open the big Career-track gates after the reset.
  • WARDOGS Class Leveling — level a specific track (Medic, Support, Driver, Pilot, Recon) to re-unlock the vehicles and gear tied to it.
  • WARDOGS Rent a Pro — squad up with a strong player to win rounds and bank XP and Cash faster while you re-learn the Season 2 meta.

FAQ

Did WARDOGS remove the Blue Team bonus? Yes. BULKHEAD removed the Season 2 Lonestar (Blue Team) cash and XP bonus about one day after it launched on 15 October 2026, via an emergency update. The bonus is no longer active on any server.

What was the WARDOGS Blue Team (Lonestar) bonus? It was a faction-specific reward for Lonestar players only — roughly +5% in-game Cash and +2.5% XP — intended to raise the historically low win rate of the blue faction by attracting more skilled players to it.

Why did BULKHEAD cancel the Lonestar bonus? It backfired. Skilled players flooded Blue Team to farm the extra Cash and XP, unlocked gear faster, and the faction the bonus was meant to help started dominating matches instead. CEO Joe Brammer announced the immediate removal, saying "We were wrong. We f***ed up."

Is there still any reason to pick Lonestar in Season 2? Not for a mechanical reward — the bonus is gone and all three factions now earn Cash and XP on the same rules. Pick your faction on the merits. The fastest way to earn is still objective play and the double-Cash Hot Zone, which are the same for every team.

Did Season 2 change Driver progression too? BULKHEAD acknowledged complaints about rapid Driver-track progression in the same launch-window round of fixes. It's a separate issue from the faction bonus, but expect the Driver curve to be tuned alongside it.

Is WARDOGS Season 2 worth playing after the reversal? Yes. WARDOGS was reading around 171,000 concurrent players on a live Steam check on 17 October 2026 and holds a "Mostly Positive" review standing across roughly 123,000 reviews. Reverting an experiment within a day is a sign the studio is actively balancing the season, not that the season is broken.
