Short version: the new Warzone does not launch with Modern Warfare 4 on October 23. MW4's full game — Multiplayer, plus the campaign and DMZ that unlocked early — goes live October 23, 2026, but Warzone integration arrives two weeks later when Season 1 starts on November 6, 2026. That's when the new battle royale map rotation (Verdansk and the new Resurgence island) comes online. If you're buying MW4 for Warzone specifically, you have a gap to plan around — here's exactly what's playable on each date, what you'll be able to grind, and how to be ready the moment Verdansk drops.
Quick answer: Warzone comes to Modern Warfare 4 at Season 1 launch on November 6, 2026 — not at the October 23 full release. From October 23 you can play MW4 Multiplayer (and the already-live campaign and DMZ). The current Warzone keeps running on Black Ops 7 integration until the switch-over.

The three MW4 launch dates that actually matter
Activision split Modern Warfare 4's rollout across several dates, and that is exactly why "when is Warzone?" keeps getting asked. Here is the confirmed sequence:
| Date | What unlocks | Who gets it |
|---|---|---|
| October 16, 2026 | Campaign Early Access | Digital pre-orders (Standard Digital / Vault) |
| October 20, 2026 | DMZ (extraction mode) Early Access | Pre-orders |
| October 23, 2026 | Full launch — Multiplayer + full campaign + DMZ | Everyone |
| October 27, 2026 | Shipment 24/7 playlist returns | Everyone (MW4 MP) |
| November 6, 2026 | Season 1 — Warzone integration begins | Everyone (free-to-play Warzone) |
So October 23 is the big one for most players — that's when Multiplayer goes live and MW4 becomes the "active" Call of Duty title. But Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale, does not flip over to MW4 until Season 1 on November 6. Until then, the live Warzone you're playing today still runs on the Black Ops 7 era integration.
Why isn't Warzone in MW4 at launch?
This is the normal Call of Duty release pattern, not a delay. Every recent CoD has shipped the premium content (campaign, multiplayer) first and folded the free-to-play Warzone into the new title at the first seasonal update. Warzone is a separate, free client that has to be re-integrated — new weapons platform, new progression, new anti-cheat build, and in this case a new map rotation — and Activision gates all of that behind the Season 1 patch.
For MW4 that gap is unusually short: about two weeks (October 23 to November 6), versus the month-plus gaps some past launches ran. As one r/CODWarzone player put it after the roadmap dropped, "new warzone season 1 is on november 6th? wow thats sooner than i expected." It is sooner than usual — but it's still not day one.
What comes to Warzone on November 6 (Verdansk, Rebirth & more)
This is the part Warzone players care about. Per Activision's Season 1 roadmap, the November 6 integration brings a fresh big-map and Resurgence rotation:
- Verdansk returns as a core Battle Royale big map — the fan-favourite original Warzone map is back in the rotation.
- Hajin (the map tied to DMZ) joins as a second large Battle Royale environment.
- Rebirth Island returns for Resurgence, alongside a new Resurgence map (Zodiac).
- Vondel is slated to return in Season 2, not at Season 1 launch.
The headline for most returning players is Verdansk. After cycling through Caldera, Al Mazrah, Urzikstan and Verdansk 2.0 across the Warzone era, the original Verdansk coming back for MW4's first season is the single most-discussed map confirmation on the subreddit. Treat the finer map details (exact POIs, loadout meta, vehicle changes) as TBC until Activision's full Season 1 blog lands closer to November 6 — but the map lineup and the date are confirmed.
What you can do between October 23 and November 6
You don't have to sit on your hands for two weeks. If you own MW4, the October 23 → November 6 window is the ideal time to get your account and weapons ready so you're not starting from zero when Verdansk goes live:
- Level your MW4 Multiplayer weapons now. Everything you unlock and level in Multiplayer from October 23 carries into Warzone when it integrates — MW4 uses a shared progression and weapons platform across MP and Warzone. Grinding guns in MP before November 6 means you drop into Verdansk with your attachments already unlocked. (See our MW4 day-1 weapon leveling guide for the fastest routes.)
- Use Shipment when it returns October 27. The 24/7 Shipment playlist is the fastest XP and camo farm in the game — here's the confirmed Shipment return. Four days of Shipment grinding before Warzone drops is a massive head start.
- Confirm what carries over. If you're coming from Black Ops 7, know exactly what transfers to MW4 — we break down weapons, camos and rank carry-over here. (Short version: MW4 is a new title with its own progression; most BO7 progress does not carry.)
Want to be Verdansk-ready without the two-week grind? We level MW4 accounts and weapons for you — done by real players, so your platform and attachments are unlocked before Season 1 drops.
- CoD Account & Weapon Leveling — skip the grind, drop into Verdansk ready
- CoD Warzone Bot Lobbies — easy lobbies to level and complete camos fast
- All Call of Duty services — camos, leveling, ranked & more

Does the current Warzone shut down before November 6?
No. The existing Warzone stays live and playable right up to the Season 1 switch-over on November 6. You keep your current loadouts and can keep playing battle royale on the current map rotation. What changes on November 6 is the integration — the new MW4 weapons, progression and the Verdansk/Rebirth rotation replace the current setup. Unclaimed battle-pass rewards from the current season expire when the switch happens, so claim anything outstanding before then.
When is MW4 Season 1 — and how long is the wait after launch?
Season 1 launches November 6, 2026, which is 14 days after the October 23 full release. That's the whole Warzone wait: two weeks. For the full Season 1 date breakdown and every confirmed pre-launch milestone, see our MW4 Season 1 release date roadmap. If you're more of a ranked player, note that MW4 Ranked Play has its own release window too.
FAQ
When does Warzone come to Modern Warfare 4? Warzone integrates with Modern Warfare 4 at Season 1 launch on November 6, 2026 — two weeks after the October 23 full release. It is not playable in the new MW4 form at launch; the current Warzone keeps running until the switch-over.
Can I play Warzone on October 23 when MW4 launches? You can play the existing (pre-integration) Warzone, but the new MW4 Warzone — with Verdansk and the new weapons/progression — does not go live until November 6. October 23 is for MW4 Multiplayer, campaign and DMZ.
Is Verdansk coming back to Warzone? Yes. Per Activision's Season 1 roadmap, Verdansk returns as a core Battle Royale big map when Season 1 launches on November 6, 2026, alongside Hajin. Rebirth Island and a new Resurgence map (Zodiac) round out the launch rotation, with Vondel following in Season 2.
Is the new Warzone free? Yes. Warzone remains free-to-play — you do not need to own Modern Warfare 4 to play it. Owning MW4 gives you Multiplayer, the campaign and shared progression that carries into Warzone, but the battle royale itself stays free when it integrates on November 6.
Does my MW4 Multiplayer progress carry into Warzone? Yes. MW4 uses a shared weapons platform and progression across Multiplayer and Warzone, so weapons you level and unlock in MP from October 23 are ready to use when Warzone integrates on November 6. This is why leveling in Multiplayer (and on Shipment from October 27) before Season 1 is worth it.
When does Shipment come to MW4? The Shipment 24/7 playlist returns to MW4 Multiplayer on October 27, 2026 — four days after the full launch and before the November 6 Warzone integration.
