Updated October 19, 2026 · applies to Season 88 (Shocktober) and the October 6, 2026 balance patch.
Quick answer: The best deck for Arena 9 (Jungle Arena, 2,600–2,999 trophies) in October 2026 is a Hog Rider 2.6 cycle: Hog Rider, Musketeer, Cannon, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Ice Golem, Fireball and Barbarian Barrel. Barbarian Barrel unlocks in Jungle Arena and is the closest thing you have to The Log, which doesn't arrive until Arena 11. If you'd rather bait spells, run Goblin Barrel bait (3.3 Elixir). If you'd rather build big pushes, run Goblin Giant beatdown (3.4 Elixir). Every card in all three decks unlocks at or before Arena 9.
Jungle Arena is the last stop before Hog Mountain, and it's a common sticking point for free-to-play players. The decks you meet start running real win conditions (Balloon, Royal Hogs, Minion Giant, Three Musketeers), card levels start to spread out, and the "best deck" lists you find online keep recommending The Log, Miner or Mega Knight. You don't have any of those yet. This guide only uses cards available by Arena 9 on the standard Trophy Road, explains why each deck works at this range, and covers what the October 6 patch and the announced mid-season changes mean for them.
Key takeaways
- Arena 9 is Jungle Arena, from 2,600 to 2,999 trophies, with a King Level 9 requirement. At 3,000 you move into Arena 10, Hog Mountain (Clash Royale Wiki: Arenas).
- Jungle Arena unlocks 9 cards: Goblin Giant, Rune Giant, Dart Goblin, Goblin Gang, Skeleton Barrel, Berserker, Barbarian Hut, Barbarian Barrel and Poison.
- Best all-round pick: Hog Rider 2.6 cycle, with Barbarian Barrel filling the 2-Elixir small-spell slot The Log takes in higher arenas.
- No Legendaries yet on the standard Trophy Road. Legendary cards unlock at Arena 11 (Electro Valley), so any Arena 9 deck list built around The Log, Princess, Miner or Electro Wizard isn't written for your card pool.
- The October 6 patch cut Barbarian Barrel damage from 232 to 215 (-8%) and sped up Goblin Barrel's first hit from 0.4s to 0.3s, per Supercell's October Balance Changes.
- Your Wild slot isn't open yet. At Arena 9 you have one Evolution slot (Arena 3) and one Hero/Champion slot (Arena 5). The Wild slot opens at Arena 10.
Which cards can you use at Arena 9?
Your card pool at Jungle Arena is everything from the Training Camp through Arena 9, all Common, Rare and Epic. Epics opened at Arena 6 (P.E.K.K.A's Playhouse). Legendaries open at Arena 11 and Champion cards at Arena 16 (Clash Royale Wiki: Arenas).
| Arena | Trophies | Cards it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Training Camp + Arena 1 | 0–299 | Knight, Archers, Musketeer, Giant, Mini P.E.K.K.A., Minions, Arrows, Fireball, Goblins, Spear Goblins, Goblin Cage, Goblin Hut |
| 2 · Bone Pit | 300–599 | Skeletons, Bomber, Valkyrie, Tombstone |
| 3 · Barbarian Bowl | 600–999 | Cannon, Barbarians, Mega Minion, Battle Ram |
| 4 · Spell Valley | 1,000–1,299 | Wizard, Inferno Tower, Bomb Tower, Skeleton Dragons, Fire Spirit, Electro Spirit |
| 5 · Builder's Workshop | 1,300–1,599 | Hog Rider, Zap, Mortar, Rocket, Bats, Flying Machine, Minion Giant |
| 6 · P.E.K.K.A's Playhouse | 1,600–1,999 | P.E.K.K.A., Goblin Barrel, Baby Dragon, Witch, Skeleton Army, Guards |
| 7 · Royal Arena | 2,000–2,299 | Royal Giant, Royal Hogs, Royal Recruits, Three Musketeers, Prince, Dark Prince, Balloon |
| 8 · Frozen Peak | 2,300–2,599 | Ice Golem, Ice Spirit, Giant Snowball, Freeze, Lightning, Vines, Battle Healer, Giant Skeleton |
| 9 · Jungle Arena | 2,600–2,999 | Goblin Giant, Rune Giant, Dart Goblin, Goblin Gang, Skeleton Barrel, Berserker, Barbarian Hut, Barbarian Barrel, Poison |
The cards that catch people out are The Log, Miner, Princess, Electro Wizard, Mega Knight and Inferno Dragon. All six unlock at Arena 11. Earthquake and Firecracker are Arena 12, and Tornado is Arena 15. If a deck list has any of them, it wasn't written for Jungle Arena.
What is the best deck for Arena 9 right now?
Our pick for most players between 2,600 and 2,999 trophies is the Hog Rider 2.6 cycle. It's the classic Hog cycle shell rebuilt from cards available by Arena 9. Seven of its eight cards are Common or Rare. Those need more copies per level than Epics, but they drop far more often from chests, the Shop and clan donations, so in practice they level faster.
The deck (2.6 average Elixir):
| Card | Elixir | Rarity | Job |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hog Rider | 4 | Rare | Win condition |
| Musketeer | 4 | Rare | Ranged support, air defence |
| Cannon | 3 | Common | Building that pulls tanks and Hogs |
| Ice Golem | 2 | Rare | Mini-tank, kiting, slow on death |
| Skeletons | 1 | Common | Cheapest distraction in the game |
| Ice Spirit | 1 | Common | Freeze reset, cycle |
| Fireball | 4 | Rare | Medium spell |
| Barbarian Barrel | 2 | Epic | Small spell, rolls through swarms |
That's 21 Elixir across 8 cards, a 2.625 average that shows in-game as 2.6.
Why Barbarian Barrel, and why now: the classic 2.6 Hog uses The Log, which you can't have until Electro Valley. Barbarian Barrel unlocks right here, costs the same 2 Elixir, rolls through Goblins, Skeletons, Spear Goblins and Goblin Gang, and leaves a Barbarian behind to finish off what's left. Supercell trimmed it on October 6, and its own note explains why: "After the buffs to Barbarians, their rock 'n roll cousin quickly became the go-to small spell for both cycle and control decks. It will no longer fully counter Wall Breakers." Wall Breakers don't unlock until Arena 12, so in Jungle Arena that nerf mostly means slightly less damage on swarms.
How to play it: defend cheaply, then counter-punch. Cannon plus one support card handles most single pushes for a positive Elixir trade. The moment your opponent spends Elixir on their own attack, send a lone Hog Rider at the tower they can't defend. You're not trying to three-crown. You chip the tower down, cycle back to Hog faster than they can rebuild a defence, and win on Elixir over three minutes.
One patch note matters here. Skeletons now spawn in a tighter cluster. Supercell says the change "will make them more vulnerable to splash damage." Don't throw them onto a Valkyrie or a Baby Dragon and expect them to survive. Use them on single-target hitters like Prince, Mini P.E.K.K.A. and Hog Rider.
What's the best spell bait deck for Arena 9?
Goblin Barrel bait works well at this range because mid-ladder players often spend their small spell on the first target they see. Jungle Arena hands you two of its best baits, Dart Goblin and Goblin Gang, and the October 6 patch made Goblin Barrel's first hit faster (0.4s → 0.3s, -25%). The Goblins start hitting the tower before many defenders react.
The deck (3.3 average Elixir):
- Goblin Barrel (win condition, 3)
- Goblin Gang (bait + defence, 3)
- Dart Goblin (ranged bait, 3)
- Knight (cheap mini-tank, 3)
- Inferno Tower (anti-tank building, 5)
- Rocket (big spell + finisher, 6)
- Barbarian Barrel (small spell, 2)
- Ice Spirit (cycle, 1)
That's 26 Elixir, a 3.25 average, which shows in-game as 3.3.
How to play it: your opponent usually has one small spell (Zap, Arrows, Barbarian Barrel or Giant Snowball). Goblin Barrel, Goblin Gang and Dart Goblin are all weak to it, especially with a Crown Tower helping finish off survivors. Show them Goblin Gang or Dart Goblin on defence first. Once they spend the spell, throw Goblin Barrel at the tower while it's still cycling. If they keep the spell for your Barrel, your Gang and Dart Goblin get free value instead. Inferno Tower is your answer to Giant, Royal Giant, Goblin Giant and P.E.K.K.A., which you'll see constantly at 2,600+. Rocket finishes a tower at the end of a close game.
One thing to watch: Dart Goblin is on the list of cards RoyaleAPI says are getting nerfed in the mid-season balance pass (see the patch section below). Its write-up calls Dart Goblin "the common denominator among the stronger spell bait decks." If the nerf lands and Dart Goblin starts feeling weak, Spear Goblins (2 Elixir, Arena 1) are a cheaper budget alternative with less range and damage, and drop the average to 3.1.
Is Goblin Giant good at Arena 9?
Yes. Goblin Giant is Jungle Arena's headline unlock and the best beatdown win condition you've had so far. It's a 6-Elixir Epic tank that only targets buildings, carrying two Spear Goblins on its back that shoot whatever comes to defend it. The Trophy Road even lets you choose 8 copies of Goblin Giant or Poison at 2,850 trophies, and both are in this deck.
The deck (3.4 average Elixir):
- Goblin Giant (tank win condition, 6)
- Dark Prince (splash support, charge, 4)
- Baby Dragon (splash air support, 4)
- Mega Minion (single-target air support, 3)
- Tombstone (defensive building, 3)
- Poison (area spell, 4)
- Zap (reset + swarm clear, 2)
- Skeletons (cycle + distraction, 1)
That's 27 Elixir, a 3.375 average, which shows as 3.4.
How to play it: play patiently and push once. Use the first minute to defend with Tombstone, Skeletons and your air units and learn what they're holding. Then drop Goblin Giant at the bridge when you have the Elixir advantage, or behind your King Tower in double Elixir, and stack Dark Prince or Baby Dragon behind it. Poison is the key spell here. Drop it on the defenders gathered around your Goblin Giant, not on the tower. It shreds Skeleton Army, Goblin Gang and Minions, and it keeps hurting whatever walks into it. Zap resets Inferno Tower, which is the card most likely to stop your push.
When to avoid it: if your Goblin Giant is two or more levels behind your other cards, the cycle deck above will climb faster. A big tank you can't fully level is a slow way to lose trophies.
What decks will you face in Jungle Arena?
Knowing the matchups matters as much as your own list. At 2,600–2,999 trophies, these are the win conditions you're likely to run into, since they're all unlocked by Arena 9:
- Minion Giant. It's been in every arena since Arena 5. Supercell slowed its hit speed on October 6 (1.5s → 1.7s, +13%) because it "was too punishing for a flying win condition." Musketeer, Mega Minion and Inferno Tower all handle it. Our Minion Giant counter guide has the full breakdown.
- Balloon and Royal Hogs (Arena 7). Keep one air-targeting card in hand at all times. Every deck above has at least two.
- Three Musketeers (Arena 7). They got +3% hitpoints (883 → 906) on October 6. Punish the 9-Elixir split with a Hog Rider or Goblin Barrel on the opposite lane, or Fireball/Poison them while they're bunched together.
- Giant, Royal Giant and P.E.K.K.A. beatdown. Pull them with Cannon, Tombstone or Inferno Tower. Don't try to out-damage them with troops.
How do the October 2026 balance changes affect Arena 9 decks?
There are two balance events to know about in Season 88.
1. The live October 6 patch (official notes). The Arena-9-relevant lines are the Barbarian Barrel damage cut (232 → 215), Goblin Barrel's faster first hit (0.4s → 0.3s), the Minion Giant hit-speed nerf (1.5s → 1.7s), Skeletons' tighter spawn and the Three Musketeers HP buff (883 → 906). Supercell's notes scale every card at Level 11. Our October 2026 balance changes breakdown covers the rest of the patch.
2. The announced mid-season pass. On October 18, RoyaleAPI, a Supercell Super Creator partner, published an 11-card mid-season list scheduled for October 19. It nerfs Cannon Cart, Dart Goblin, Minion Giant and Rune Giant. It buffs Hero Electro Wizard, Electro Dragon, Flying Machine, Void and Skeleton Barrel (Evolved Skeleton Barrel too), and includes a Skeletons bug fix. Supercell hadn't published its own notes when we checked early on October 19, so we're not printing exact numbers until the changes are confirmed live. Three of those cards unlock in Jungle Arena: Dart Goblin, Rune Giant and Skeleton Barrel. None of the three is the win condition in our decks, so the lists above hold up either way. If Skeleton Barrel's buff makes it a real threat, Barbarian Barrel and Zap already answer it.
Do you need Evolutions or Heroes at Arena 9?
No. All three decks work with no Evolution and no Hero. At Jungle Arena you have one Evolution slot (opened at Arena 3) and one Hero/Champion slot (opened at Arena 5). The Wild slot, which takes either an Evolution or a Hero, opens at Arena 10 (Clash Royale Wiki: Arenas).
If you do have a Hero whose base card is in your deck, slot it in. Keep one rule in mind: since the August 2026 balance changes, Hero and Champion abilities fire once per deployment (Boss Bandit is the only exception). Save the ability for the moment it swings a fight, not the first time it's ready. Our Clash Royale Heroes guide explains how Hero Coins and the Hero slot work.
How do you get out of Jungle Arena faster?
The Trophy Road between 2,600 and 3,000 pays out well, so it's worth knowing what's coming (Clash Royale Wiki: Arenas):
| Trophies | Reward |
|---|---|
| 2,625 | 50 Common Wild Cards |
| 2,700 | Golden Chest |
| 2,750 | 70 copies of Dart Goblin or Barbarian Hut (your choice) |
| 2,800 | 6,000 Gold |
| 2,850 | 8 copies of Goblin Giant or Poison (your choice) |
| 2,900 | 150 Gems |
| 2,950 | 3 Evolved Archers shards |
Take Dart Goblin at 2,750 if you're playing bait, and Goblin Giant at 2,850 if you're playing beatdown. Poison is the safer pick if you run neither, because it fits almost any deck. Put the 6,000 Gold into your win condition and your spells first. They decide more games than anything else at this range. Gold per level is the same for every rarity, so a Common-heavy deck doesn't save Gold. Its advantage is that the copies are much easier to find.
Three habits get you from 2,600 to 3,000 faster than switching decks:
- Pick one deck and stay with it. Players who swap after three losses never learn their matchups.
- Play for Elixir trades, not kills. Spending 5 Elixir to stop a 3-Elixir Goblin Barrel is a slow loss even when the tower survives.
- Don't rage-queue. Your trophies can't drop below 2,600 once you've reached Jungle Arena, because the Trophy Gate holds you there, so a losing streak costs you less than you think. Stepping away for ten minutes still beats playing tilted.
Once you hit 3,000, our best deck for Arena 10 (Hog Mountain) picks up where this guide ends. Hog Mountain unlocks Golem and the Wild slot. For the full ladder, see all 32 Clash Royale arenas in order.
FAQ
What is Arena 9 in Clash Royale? Arena 9 is Jungle Arena. It runs from 2,600 to 2,999 trophies, needs King Level 9, and leads into Arena 10, Hog Mountain, at 3,000 trophies.
What is the best deck for Arena 9? Our pick is the Hog Rider 2.6 cycle (Hog Rider, Musketeer, Cannon, Ice Golem, Skeletons, Ice Spirit, Fireball, Barbarian Barrel) is the best all-round pick. It's cheap to level, cheap to play, and every card unlocks by Arena 9.
What cards unlock in Jungle Arena? Nine: Goblin Giant, Rune Giant, Dart Goblin, Goblin Gang, Skeleton Barrel, Berserker, Barbarian Hut, Barbarian Barrel and Poison.
Can I use The Log at Arena 9? Not on the standard Trophy Road. The Log is a Legendary, and Legendaries unlock at Arena 11 (Electro Valley). Barbarian Barrel is the best 2-Elixir replacement until then, and it unlocks in Jungle Arena.
What's the best beginner deck for Arena 9? The Hog cycle if you're happy to learn timing, and Goblin Giant beatdown if you'd rather build one big push. Goblin Giant is more forgiving for new players because the two Spear Goblins on its back help defend it.
Is Rune Giant good at Arena 9? It's a playable 4-Elixir Epic tank that buffs nearby friendly troops, but RoyaleAPI's October 18 mid-season list includes a Rune Giant nerf, so it's a weaker investment right now than Goblin Giant or Hog Rider.
Do trophies drop below 2,600 if I keep losing? No. Reaching Jungle Arena passes you through its Trophy Gate, and losses can't push you back into Frozen Peak.
