Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's final season, Season 06: The Haunting, went live September 17, 2026, and it dropped a brand-new Endgame world event on Avalon: the Forbidden Summoning Event. Unlock three Summoning Seals, drag an ancient Aether Worm called Greylorm into the open at the Stadium, and walk away with an Exotic Skill and the new Heatsync AAROW 19 Exotic Weapon. It's the highest-value PvE grind BO7 has left before Modern Warfare 4 lands on October 23 — and if you want the Heatsync, this event is the only way to get it.
This guide breaks down every step: how the seals spawn, why you must use Exotic weapons, exactly where Greylorm shows up, how to survive its four attacks, and every reward the fight drops. All of it is verified against Activision's official Season 06 blog and patch notes.

Quick Answer (TL;DR)
- What it is: A new Endgame World Event on Avalon added with Season 06 The Haunting (live since Sep 17, 2026). Runs during Avalon Night.
- The loop: Break 3 Summoning Seals → the Greylorm Aether Worm spawns at the Stadium → defeat it for the loot.
- The catch: Each seal only charges from kills made with Exotic weapons — 100 Exotic kills per seal. Nothing else counts.
- Boss: Greylorm, an Aether Worm with four attacks (Orb, Laser, Bite, Burrow). Shoot its glowing weak spots.
- Rewards: 1 of 2 Exotic Skills + the Heatsync AAROW 19 Exotic Weapon (a nod to the Scorcher Wonder Weapon — fire it at the ground to launch yourself airborne).
- Bring a squad. Activision's own advice: "bring plenty of backup." Soloing the seals is slow and the boss has a huge health pool.

What Is the Forbidden Summoning Event?
The Forbidden Summoning Event is the marquee Endgame addition in Season 06. Per Activision's official Season 06 blog, "Avalon has a new guest courtesy of The Haunting. Unlock the seals to free an ancient threat in the Forbidden Summoning Event and bring plenty of backup to receive its worthy rewards."
It arrives alongside Avalon Night — The Haunting turns Endgame's open-world Avalon into a nighttime map where "Fears, Guild opponents, and other obstacles seek to eliminate squads under the cover of night." So the whole event plays out in the dark, which changes sightlines and makes the escort steps genuinely riskier than daytime Avalon. It's part of the same content wave covered in our BO7 Season 06 The Haunting rundown.
Mechanically it's a three-phase chain: seals → boss → loot. Below is each phase, in order.
How to Start: The Summoning Seal Alert
You can't trigger the event on demand. Instead, watch your HUD for the Summoning Seal Alert. When it fires, three Summoning Seal Activities appear on your map at the same time. Their spawn points are typically:
- Hightown
- The Excavation Site
- Far east of Low Town
Each of the three is an independent objective. You don't have to solo all three — on a populated server, other squads will usually already be working the other two, so you can knock out one and rally at the Stadium. But if the lobby is empty, budget time to do all three yourself.
Step 1: Escort the Ritual Orb
Head to one of the three seal locations and find the Ritual Orb. Interact with it, then stay close — the orb travels a set path to its destination, and it only moves while you're near it. Escorting it there is what spawns the actual Summoning Seal.
Enemies spawn in waves during the escort, so keep the pressure off the orb while you move. This is the step where Avalon Night hurts most: reduced visibility plus incoming waves means an escort that would be trivial in daylight can wipe a lone player.
Step 2: Break the Seal With Exotic Weapons Only
Once the orb reaches its destination and the Summoning Seal is up, the real requirement kicks in: eliminate 100 enemies near the seal using only Exotic weapons. Every Exotic kill charges the seal; kills made with any non-Exotic weapon do not count at all. When the counter hits 100, the seal breaks.
This is the part most players get wrong. If you roll in with your usual meta AR and no Exotic equipped, you'll farm the wave for five minutes and the seal won't budge. Slot at least one Exotic before you engage, and ideally an Exotic with strong add-clear so you can chew through 100 kills fast. (If your Endgame Skill track isn't showing the Exotic you want, see our Endgame Skill Track fix.)
Repeat for all three seals — or, as noted, split the work with the lobby and head straight to the Stadium once all three are down.
How to farm Exotic kills faster
- Bring an Exotic that hits multiple targets or has good sustained fire so wave clear counts stack quickly.
- Stay tight to the seal — kills only charge it while you're in its vicinity.
- Play as a squad: three players each running an Exotic clear a seal in a fraction of the solo time.
- Save your ammo economy for the seals, not the trash between them. You need enough Exotic ammo to land 100 kills per seal without dry-firing halfway through a wave; picking up ammo crates on the way to each seal is worth the detour.
- Coordinate roles: if the whole squad piles on one seal, you finish it in roughly a third of the time, then move as a unit to the next. Splitting up only helps when the lobby is dead and you're racing the clock alone.
Across all three seals that's 300 Exotic-weapon kills before Greylorm even spawns, so treat Exotic loadout selection as the single most important prep decision for the whole event.

Step 3: The Greylorm Aether Worm Boss Fight
With all three seals broken, the ancient threat is loose. Head to the Stadium POI — that's where Greylorm, the Aether Worm, spawns. It's a large boss with a heavy health pool, so a full squad and good ammo economy matter here.
Focus its glowing weak spots to actually push damage. Then learn its four attacks, because two of them can one-shot you if you're careless:
- Orb Attack — Greylorm spits out several floating orbs that chase and damage you. Shoot the orbs to pop them before they reach you.
- Laser Attack — it fires a sweeping laser. Sidestep to dodge it.
- Bite Attack — get too close and it bites the nearest player. Keep your distance.
- Burrow Attack — the worm periodically goes underground and re-emerges to eat the nearest player. Get off the Stadium field to avoid it entirely. If you get launched into the air, activate your wingsuit to escape being eaten.
If you're overwhelmed or low, there's a Munitions Box on the east side of the Stadium to top up your Armor mid-fight. Rotate to it between phases rather than dying and losing your run.
All Forbidden Summoning Event Rewards
When Greylorm goes down, it drops two rewards:
- 1 of 2 Exotic Skills — awarded the same way as any other Endgame World Event boss.
- The Heatsync AAROW 19 Exotic Weapon — the headline drop. It's a callback to The Scorcher Wonder Weapon from Modern Warfare Zombies: fire it at the ground and the blast launches you into the air, doubling as a mobility tool.
The Heatsync is exclusive to this event, so if you want it in your loadout for BO7's final weeks, you have to clear Forbidden Summoning at least once.
Should You Grind This Before MW4?
Yes — with a caveat. Season 06 is a 3-week Ranked sprint and BO7's last major update before Modern Warfare 4 on October 23, 2026. Multiplayer camos and weapon levels do not carry into MW4 (you start fresh — see exactly what transfers between titles), so grinding cosmetics for carry-forward value is pointless.
But the Heatsync Exotic and the Exotic Skills are Endgame content you can enjoy for the rest of BO7's life, and clearing the event is one of the fastest Combat Rating / XP sources left. If you're still playing Endgame day-to-day, it's worth the run. If you've already checked out for MW4, skip it.
If you want the loot without the 300-Exotic-kill grind and the bullet-sponge boss, our team clears the full event for you:

FAQ
When did the Forbidden Summoning Event start? It launched with Black Ops 7 Season 06: The Haunting on September 17, 2026, and runs through the season — BO7's last major update before Modern Warfare 4 on October 23.
Where do the three Summoning Seals spawn? After the Summoning Seal Alert appears on your HUD, three seal activities appear on the Avalon map — typically at Hightown, the Excavation Site, and far east of Low Town.
Why won't my Summoning Seal charge? Because you're not using an Exotic weapon. Each seal only counts kills made with Exotic weapons — 100 per seal. Non-Exotic kills do nothing. Equip an Exotic before you engage the wave.
Where is the Greylorm boss? Once all three seals are broken, Greylorm the Aether Worm spawns at the Stadium POI on Avalon. Focus its glowing weak spots and dodge its Burrow attack by getting off the field (or using your wingsuit if launched).
What do you get for beating the Forbidden Summoning Event? Greylorm drops one of two Exotic Skills and the Heatsync AAROW 19 Exotic Weapon, a Scorcher-style gun that launches you airborne when fired at the ground.
Can I do the event solo? You can, but Activision recommends bringing "plenty of backup." Solo, you must break all three seals yourself (300 Exotic kills total) and fight a high-health boss alone. A squad is far faster and safer.
