Updated October 23, 2026 (Day 3 of the event) · applies to Season 88 (Shocktober) and the Keep the Lights On community event, October 21–28, 2026.

Quick answer: Keep the Lights On is Clash Royale's Shocktober community event, live October 21–28, 2026. Once a day, win one battle, then pick a side. Give power (blue) adds energy to a shared community battery and pays a smaller personal reward. Take power (red) drains the battery and pays a bigger one. When the event ends, everyone who took part gets the same community reward based on how full the battery is, from nothing below 25% up to two 5-Star Lucky Chests at 100%. You also earn an emote based on how you contributed: King's Treasure for contributors, Goblin's Precious for takers. Our call: take on the strong days (Day 1's 10 Hero Coins, Day 3's Overflowing Gold Crate) and give on the days where the gap is small.

Supercell sums the event up in one line on the official Shocktober season notes: "Will you be a generous contributor or a total reward hog?" The official Clash Royale X account put it more bluntly on launch day: "Every decision affects EVERYONE'S final reward, so choose wisely…" That's the whole dilemma. This guide lists every reward revealed so far, explains how the community battery pays out, and works out which side is actually worth picking each day.

Key takeaways

  • Dates: October 21 to October 28, 2026. That's 7 daily picks, and the in-game timer read "Ends in: 6d 18h" on Day 1.
  • How it works: win 1 battle a day, then choose the red (Take) or blue (Give) side. You get one pick per day, and the other side locks once you choose.
  • Final community reward: ≥25% = 1× 3-Star Lucky Chest · ≥50% = 3× 4-Star Lucky Chests · ≥75% = 1× 5-Star Lucky Chest · 100% = 2× 5-Star Lucky Chests. Below 25% nobody gets anything.
  • Emotes: contributors earn King's Treasure, takers earn Goblin's Precious.
  • Take has paid much more so far. On Day 3, players on r/ClashRoyale reported 31,000–44,000 Gold from the Take side's Overflowing Gold Crate, while one player who gave power reported about 700 Gold from the Gold Crate. Amounts vary by player.

How does the Keep the Lights On event work?

Clash Royale Keep the Lights On event screen on Day 1 showing the community battery, the Take power side and the Give side adding +225 power for a Lucky Chest

The official rules are short. From the season notes: "Each day, win 1 battle and choose a reward from either the red or blue side of the grid. The side you choose will either add or subtract energy from the community power source." And: "The total amount of power left at the end of the event will decide the community reward, which will be available to everyone who participates!"

In practice, a day looks like this:

  • Win one battle. The official rules ask for one win per day. They don't set any crown or trophy target.
  • Open the Keep the Lights On screen. It shows the battery at the top, a seven-dot day tracker, and two panels: "− Take power" on the left and "+ [amount]" on the right.
  • Pull one lever. The red lever takes power and gives you that side's reward. The blue lever adds power (on Day 1 the Give side read +225) and gives you the blue reward. Once you've picked, the other panel shows a padlock.
  • Claim your reward. The pop-up confirms either "Power added to Community Battery" or that power was taken. Then the timer counts down to the next pick. On the Day 1 screenshot above it read "Next reward pick in: 18h 14m".

Rewards on both sides change every day, and each day's pair appears in game when that day starts. Supercell hasn't published Days 4–7, so treat any list of them before they go live as a guess.

What are the daily Give and Take rewards?

These are the rewards revealed so far, checked against in-game screenshots and player reports on r/ClashRoyale as of October 23, 2026:

A few notes on the numbers:

  • 10 Hero Coins is the standout Take reward so far. A Hero costs 200 Hero Coins (that's how the new Hero Electro Wizard is priced outside the Upgraded Pass Royale), so Day 1 alone gave takers 5% of a Hero. If you're saving for one, see which Hero to unlock first.
  • Day 3's gap is huge. In the r/ClashRoyale "Reward for Giving Power Today" thread and its "taking power" twin, players posted 31k, 35k and 44k Gold from the Overflowing Gold Crate. One player who gave power said they got "like 700 gold". Another summed up the choice as "Trash vs Garbage". That's the event's design: Give is supposed to feel like a sacrifice.
  • Your amounts will differ. These are individual player reports, not official figures, and players are at different stages of progression. Supercell's own drop-rate hub says many chests scale their rewards with your Chest Level, which rises with your Arena. Treat the reports as a sign of a very large gap, not an exact ratio.

We'll update this table as Days 4–7 go live.

What are the community battery reward tiers?

Keep the Lights On final reward tiers: 25% one 3-Star Lucky Chest, 50% three 4-Star Lucky Chests, 75% one 5-Star Lucky Chest, 100% two 5-Star Lucky Chests

The battery's level when the event ends decides one shared reward for everyone who took part, whichever side they picked. The in-game info panel lists:

Power left at the endCommunity rewardAmount
Below 25%Nothing—
≥ 25%3-Star Lucky Chest1
≥ 50%4-Star Lucky Chest3
≥ 75%5-Star Lucky Chest1
100%5-Star Lucky Chest2

Event coverage identifies these as Magic Lucky Chests. Supercell's published Magic Lucky Chest odds show how much each tier is worth:

  • A 3-Star chest can upgrade. It stays 3-Star 40.96% of the time, becomes 4-Star 56.97% of the time, and reaches 5-Star 2.07% of the time.
  • A 4-Star chest rarely upgrades. It stays 4-Star 96% of the time and reaches 5-Star 4% of the time. With three of them (the 50% tier), you have about an 11.5% chance that at least one reaches 5-Star.
  • A 5-Star chest is locked at 5-Star. At Chest Level 13 and above, a 5-Star roll has a 9.5% chance of a Full Evolution and 5.5% of Evolution Shards. That's what the 75% tier guarantees once, and the 100% tier guarantees twice. Two 5-Star chests give roughly an 18% chance of at least one Full Evolution.

The practical read: 50% gets you the most chests, and 75% gets you one guaranteed top-rarity roll. 100% is the best tier, because it doubles the 5-Star result.

The battery is shared across the whole player base. In the Day 1 screenshot above it read 22%. Check the in-game screen for the live level, because it moves all day.

Which emote do you get: King's Treasure or Goblin's Precious?

In-game event info: contributors earn the King's Treasure emote, takers earn the Goblin's Precious emote

The event's info screen says: "As a reward for (or in spite of) your actions during the event, you'll earn an emote based on how you contributed."

  • Contributors earn the King's Treasure emote, a laughing King holding a crown chest.
  • Takers earn the Goblin's Precious emote, a Goblin clutching a crown in a nod to Gollum.

Supercell's wording, "based on how you contributed", doesn't spell out the exact rule. Community guides read it as whichever side you picked more often, but Supercell hasn't confirmed that. It also hasn't said whether the size of each day's power change counts, or what happens in a tie. If the majority reading is right, there are 7 picks, so 4 on one side would decide it. Until Supercell confirms the rule, the safest way to get the emote you want is to lean clearly toward that side.

Which emote is better is a matter of taste. In the subreddit, one player said "the Gollum goblin emote is golden", and another said they "always go for give".

Should you give or take power?

This is the part most guides skip. Here's the honest maths.

Your single pick barely moves the battery. The battery is shared by everyone who plays the event, so one pick is a tiny fraction of the total. Whether the community hits 25%, 50% or 100% depends on what everyone else does. Taking costs the shared reward almost nothing, while the Take reward lands straight in your inventory.

That's exactly the trap. If everyone reasons that way, the battery empties and nobody gets the community chests. It's a classic public-goods dilemma, and Supercell built it deliberately: the official tagline frames it as "generous contributor or a total reward hog". One commenter described the design well: givers are "settling for the worse reward for now" so the shared reward is bigger later.

Our recommendation: split by reward quality.

  • Take when the Take reward is clearly better. Day 1 (10 Hero Coins) and Day 3 (an Overflowing Gold Crate worth tens of thousands of Gold) are the best examples. These are progression resources you can't easily replace.
  • Give when the gap is small. Day 2 (5 Epic Wild Cards vs a Gold Crate) was close enough that giving cost you little. Use days like that to bank your contribution.
  • Pick your emote first and lean toward that side. Want King's Treasure? Make most of your picks gives, and save your takes for the best Take days. Want Goblin's Precious? Do the reverse. Supercell hasn't published the exact emote rule, so a clear lead is safer than a 4–3 split.
  • Don't miss a day. Each pick needs a win. A missed day wastes a reward and makes a tie more likely.

If you're behind on upgrades, the Gold from a single Overflowing Gold Crate is worth more than most of the Gold you'll earn from a week of daily battles. Our fastest ways to get Gold in Clash Royale guide puts that in context.

How does Keep the Lights On fit into the rest of Shocktober?

Keep the Lights On is one of several events running in Season 88 (Shocktober, October 5 – November 2, 2026). The same daily win can also earn you daily battle rewards for the Album, and the other events run alongside it:

  • Shocktober: The Movie! Album Event (Oct 6 – Nov 2). Daily battle rewards include up to 3 Snippets. Finishing the album gives you the Evolution Electro Giant for free, plus an emote and a tower skin.
  • C.H.A.O.S Blackout (Oct 19–26) and C.H.A.O.S Draft (Oct 19 – Nov 2), with C.H.A.O.S Power Surge starting Oct 26. Our C.H.A.O.S mode explainer covers all three.
  • Power Surge Global Tournament (Oct 20–25) and the annual 20-Win Challenge (Oct 26 – Nov 2).

For every date in one place, see our Shocktober event schedule. If you're deciding whether to pay for the season, our Pass Royale value check for Shocktober has the numbers.

A note on Hero abilities while you grind that daily win: since the August 2026 balance changes, Hero and Champion abilities are single-use per deployment (Boss Bandit is the exception). Older guides that tell you to "use it again after the cooldown" are out of date. Our Hero Electro Wizard guide covers how to time the one-shot Surging Strikes ability.

FAQ

When does the Clash Royale Keep the Lights On event end? It runs from October 21 to October 28, 2026, with one pick per day for 7 days. On Day 1 the in-game timer read "Ends in: 6d 18h".

Is it better to give or take power in Clash Royale? For you alone, Take has paid more on every day so far. On Day 3, players reported 31k–44k Gold from the Overflowing Gold Crate, while one player who gave reported about 700 Gold. The community reward only pays out if the battery is at least 25% when the event ends, though. The best plan is to take on high-value days, give on close days, and lean clearly toward the side whose emote you want.

What do you get for giving power in Keep the Lights On? Each day's blue-side reward (so far a Lucky Chest on Day 1 and a Gold Crate on Days 2 and 3), more energy in the community battery, and progress toward the King's Treasure emote.

What is the Goblin's Precious emote? It's the Keep the Lights On emote for players who took power. Supercell's in-game text says the emote is "based on how you contributed". It shows a Goblin clutching a crown. Contributors get King's Treasure instead.

What happens if the community battery ends below 25%? Nobody gets a community reward. The tiers start at 25% (one 3-Star Lucky Chest) and top out at 100% (two 5-Star Lucky Chests). Your daily Give and Take rewards are yours to keep either way.

Why can't I pick a reward in Keep the Lights On? The pick unlocks only after you win one battle that day. A loss doesn't count. If you've already chosen today, the other side stays locked until the next pick timer runs out.
