FFXIV Tomestones to Gil (Patch 7.57): Best Buys Ranked Before Poetics Disappear

Quick answer: what is the best way to turn tomestones into gil?

Spend Mathematics first. In Patch 7.57, the 10-tome Dawntrail materials sold by Zircon in Solution Nine are the best tomestones-to-gil conversion we found across every Poetics and Mathematics item we priced, and they sell in the thousands. Then spend Poetics, and don't plan on Mnemonics making you any gil.

  • Best overall: Shaaloani Coke, Hydrophobic Preservative and Diatryma Pelt, 10 Mathematics each. They sold for about 1,500 gil or more each on all four data centers we checked, so roughly 150+ gil per tome.
  • Deepest market: Yollal Extract, 20 Mathematics. Each data center we checked moved at least 7,000 units in three days. Expect about 83–125 gil per tome.
  • Best Poetics buy: Multifaceted Resin, 5 Poetics. It sold for about 700 gil on Aether and Primal (139–142 gil per tome), but only 174–318 gil on Chaos and Light.
  • No direct gil: Mnemonics. They only buy Bygone Brass gear.
  • Sell by February. Evercold launches February 23, 2027, with early access on February 19 (Lodestone).

Prices are Universalis sales from the three days up to November 2, 2026 (21:12 UTC), on Aether, Primal, Chaos and Light. Item names in the tables link to their live Universalis pages. Your retainers sell on your Home World only, so check that world's board before you buy in bulk.

Why are tomestones suddenly a gil question?

Because Evercold is ending the system, and Naoki Yoshida said so directly at Fan Festival Tokyo. Asked about Allagan Tomestones during the Q&A, he gave this answer, translated by volunteers and reported by PCGamesN:

"Poetics will disappear. Thank you, Poetics." (Naoki Yoshida, Fan Festival Tokyo Q&A, via PCGamesN)

He added that "there will be something that allows you to trade for gear for alt jobs, or past rewards," and that "it just won't be Poetics any more."

Here is what's confirmed, and what isn't:

QuestionStatus
Does the weekly capped tomestone go away?Yes. The Adventurer Activity system replaces it
Do Poetics go away?Yes, per Yoshida. No date given
Do Mathematics go away? The community wiki lists the whole tomestone system as retired in Evercold. We found no Square Enix statement that names Mathematics
Can leftover tomes be converted? Not announced

That last row is why waiting is risky. Square Enix has removed retired tomestones from players before, and it warns them to exchange first. Its Patch 7.4 notice told players to swap aesthetics at Auriana before maintenance. Poetics have long been the catch-all currency for retired tomes, and Yoshida has now said Poetics won't be around to catch them. So treat every tome in your wallet as money with an expiry date, even though the date isn't official yet.

The expansion's slip from January also helps you. You now have 108 days until early access opens, which leaves time for a lot of daily roulettes.

Which Mathematics buys make the most gil?

The 10-tome materials win. Zircon sells them in Solution Nine at X:8.6, Y:13.5, and you need to have finished the Dawntrail main story to spend Mathematics at all.

Here are the Mathematics buys that are worth your time. "3-day sale price" is the lowest and highest of four medians, one each for Aether, Primal, Chaos and Light, using unweighted normal-quality sales. "Units sold" is the same four-way range. Our sample stops at 200 sales per data center, so real volume on the busiest items is higher.

ItemCost3-day sale priceGil per tomeUnits sold, 3 days

Yollal Extract201,650–2,49983–1257,091–8,889
Neo Abrasive10260–1,57726–158267–1,917

Three things stand out:

Aether pays the most. It was the top of the range for almost everything here except Hydrophobic Preservative and Neo Abrasive, which were close across NA. Light was the low end for Cronopio Skin and Neo Abrasive, so don't copy NA numbers onto EU worlds. These are data center figures, too. A quiet Home World will sell slower than the table suggests.

Why these prices hold. They're real crafting inputs for level 100 work. Cronopio Skin becomes Cronopio Leather, Hydrophobic Preservative goes into Cordia Lumber, and Yollal Extract goes into Grade 4 Gemdraughts. Crafters buy them instead of spending their own tomes.

The 20-tome items are the safety valve. If you are dumping a full wallet of 2,000 Mathematics, one 10-tome item can get crowded. Yollal Extract pays less per tome, but it's the deepest market here, so it absorbs a big dump best.

Which Poetics buys are worth it for gil?

Multifaceted Resin, if you're on the right data center. Poetics sell older materials, so demand is thinner and much more uneven by region. Two vendors stock the Shadowbringers materials: Aymark in Eulmore (10.2, 11.8) and Mowen's Merchant in the Crystarium (10.1, 11.8). Both need the Shadowbringers main story finished. For the other items in this table, Gobcraft Resin comes from Hismena in Idyllshire (5.7, 5.2), and Vanadinite, Hannish Varnish and Thavnairian Horsetail come from the Agora Merchant in Old Sharlayan (11.6, 11.2).

ItemCost3-day sale priceGil per tomeRead
Multifaceted Resin5174–70935–142Best buy. Strong on Aether and Primal, weak on Light
Gobcraft Resin5338–50568–101Only Primal and Light had sales. Niche
Thavnairian Horsetail10199–88820–89Sold on three of four data centers
Hannish Varnish10439–72044–72Very few sales on EU
Vanadinite10100–69310–69Far better on Aether and Primal
Multifaceted Alchemic51,500–1,984 on NA, no EU salesUnreliableSee below

Be careful with Multifaceted Alchemic. Its NA sale median looks like the best deal on this page. But the lowest listings at the time of our pull were only 150–500 gil across six data centers (those four plus Crystal and Dynamis). That usually means a short-lived price spike has already been undercut. Don't buy 400 of these off a three-day chart. Check what's listed on your own board first.

Poetics also have a clear earning route. The Main Scenario roulette alone pays 350 Poetics a day, and that's 70 Multifaceted Resin. At Aether and Primal sale prices, it comes to about 49,000 gil before tax. On Chaos or Light, it's closer to 12,000–22,000 gil.

How much gil can you actually make before Evercold?

Plan on about 2.2–4.4 million gil if you run three roulettes a day from now until February 1 and sell every tome. That's a side income, not a farming method. You're already running these duties.

Here's the math, using the wiki's daily roulette rewards. You need a level 100 job to earn Mathematics from these roulettes:

StepNumber
High-level Dungeons + Alliance Raids + Level Cap Dungeons120 + 120 + 100 = 340 Mathematics a day
Converted to 10-tome materials34 items a day
At 1,500 gil each, after 5% market taxabout 48,450 gil a day
Per weekabout 339,000 gil
90 days to February 1about 4.4 million gil
Same plan if prices halveabout 2.2 million gil

We included that last row on purpose. As Evercold gets closer, more players will list the same items, and prices could fall. The 4.4 million figure assumes prices don't change, so treat it as a scenario, not a forecast. Those three roulettes also pay about 26,000 bonus gil a day on the wiki's table, which isn't counted above.

The market tax can be lower, too. It's 5% as standard, with reduced rates that vary by city and rotate, so check your Retainer Vocate before you list. Crafting materials get undercut hard, as our market board flipping guide explains, so check the board before each batch.

When should you stop buying and sell everything?

Sell steadily, and be finished by early February. There are two reasons not to hold.

The wallet cap. You can only carry 2,000 of each tomestone. At 340 a day, the sixth payout takes you past the cap, and anything over it is wasted. Spend every few days.

Level 100 demand has an end date. This part is our read, not an announcement. Evercold raises the level cap to 110, and new endgame gear will use new crafting materials. When that happened in earlier expansions, crafters moved on to the new recipes quickly. Materials bought for level 100 work could sit unsold if you hold them into launch. Unlike buying consumables and permanent items before launch, these are a sell-now asset.

A simple calendar:

  • Now to February 1: Buy and list every few days. Rotate between two or three items so you aren't undercutting yourself.
  • November 10: Patch 7.58 arrives after a 24-hour maintenance. Its notes aren't out yet, so check them for tomestone changes before your next big buy.
  • February 1 to February 18: Stop stocking. Clear your remaining listings, even at a lower price.
  • Before the 8.0 maintenance: Spend whatever tomes are left, even on low-value items. Watch the Lodestone for a tomestone notice in case Square Enix announces a conversion.

What should you not buy with tomestones?

Skip anything you can't list. Plenty of the most expensive vendor items are locked to your character, so they give you nothing to sell.

Historia gear bought with Mathematics cannot be sold on the market board

  • Tomestone gear such as Historia and Bygone Brass. It's useful for your own jobs and worthless as a gil play.
  • Framer's Kits, 950 Mathematics each. They're untradable collectibles. If you want one for yourself, buy it, but it won't earn anything.
  • High-priced Poetics items such as Aether Oil (350), Sacred Spring Water (200) and Manderium Meteorite (500). These can't go on the market board either.
  • Low-value bulk materials. Glossy Dried Ether costs 10 Mathematics and sold for 10–50 gil. Some items look similar to the good ones and pay a tiny fraction.

If you only care about gear for now, that's fine too. On r/ffxivdiscussion, one player made the point that capping tomes costs nothing extra if you're already playing every week. It's the same logic here: the gil comes from tomes you were going to earn anyway. If you want more than that, Scrip Exchange buys and crafter jobs stack on top.

FAQ

Can you sell tomestones for gil in FFXIV? Not directly. Tomestones can't be traded or listed on the market board. You turn them into gil by buying marketable items from tomestone vendors and selling those to other players. Mathematics and Poetics both work this way, while Mnemonics only buy gear.

What is the best thing to buy with Poetics for gil? Multifaceted Resin, at 5 Poetics each. It sold for about 700 gil on Aether and Primal in the last three days, which is around 140 gil per tome. On Chaos and Light it was 174–318 gil, so check your own data center first.

Will Poetics really be removed in Evercold? Naoki Yoshida said "Poetics will disappear" at the Fan Festival Tokyo Q&A, according to a volunteer translation reported by PCGamesN. He didn't give a date, and Square Enix hasn't published a conversion plan. He did say a different system will handle gear for alt jobs and past rewards.

Will my Mathematics disappear too? Probably. The Adventurer Activity system replaces the weekly capped tomestone, and the community wiki describes the whole Allagan Tomestone system as retired in Evercold. We found no Square Enix statement that names Mathematics, so the safest plan is to spend them before the 8.0 maintenance.

How many tomestones can you hold? 2,000 of each type. The weekly capped tomestone, Mnemonics, also has a limit of 900 earned per week. Poetics and Mathematics have no weekly limit, so the 2,000 wallet cap is the one that matters for this method.

What patch is this tomestone data for? Patch 7.57, live since October 13, 2026, with Universalis sales pulled on November 2, 2026. Patch 7.58 arrives on November 10, and Evercold launches on February 23, 2027.
