Aino is the single most under-built character in a lot of 7.0 accounts, and it is easy to see why: she was handed out for free, so she never got the "I just spent 90 pulls on this" treatment. That is a mistake. She is currently a promoted 4-star on both Version 7.0 Phase II Event Wishes, she is the off-field Hydro applicator holding the Flins and Ineffa teams together, and the correct way to build her is genuinely different from the material-table-shaped guides you will find elsewhere.
Quick answer: Build Aino as an Energy Recharge + Elemental Mastery off-field Hydro support, not a damage dealer. Run 4pc Silken Moon's Serenade (or 4pc Instructor if you have not farmed the new set) with ER / EM / EM main stats, and target roughly 190–250% ER at C0 on one Skill per Burst. Best free weapon is the Favonius Greatsword; the craftable Master Key is the practical F2P pick. Level her Burst first and her Skill second — her talent levels barely matter, because her damage comes from transformative reactions and her Ascension 4 passive, both of which scale on Elemental Mastery instead of talent multipliers.
Article status: verified 8 September 2026 against the in-game Version 7.0 Phase II Event Wish announcements, the KQM Aino guide, Icy Veins, Game8 and GameWith. Version 7.1 has an officially confirmed Special Program on 12 September 2026, but no 7.1 banner line-up has been published — nothing below assumes it.
Is Aino free in Genshin Impact?
Yes. Aino is obtained for free by progressing the Nod-Krai Archon Quest chapter, The Song of the Welkin Moon — you do not need to pull for a copy. She was added in Version 6.0 alongside the Nod-Krai region, so she is not a new character despite the banner attention she is getting this patch.
That single fact reframes the entire banner question. Wishing on the current banners does not get you Aino — it gets you constellations for an Aino you already own. If you are pulling anyway for the 5-star, her constellations are a bonus, but she is never a reason to spend Primogems on her own.
She is a promoted 4-star on both Phase II wishes running right now:
| Event Wish | Featured 5-star | Promoted 4-stars | Duration (server time) |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Lone Light Knocks at Night | Flins | Aino (Hydro), Iansan (Electro), Lan Yan (Anemo) | 2026/09/01 18:00 – 2026/09/22 14:59 |
| Astral Actuation | Ineffa | Aino (Hydro), Iansan (Electro), Lan Yan (Anemo) | 2026/09/01 18:00 – 2026/09/22 14:59 |
Two things worth knowing before you pull. First, the guarantee count is shared between the Character Event Wish and Character Event Wish-2 — pity carries across both banners, so pulls on Flins are not "wasted" if you actually want Ineffa. Second, both banners end at the same moment on 22 September, which is also when Phase II closes. If you want the full picture of what is running and when, our Genshin banner schedule for September 2026 tracks the whole window.
What does Aino actually do?
Aino is the game's first 4-star Hydro Claymore user, a self-taught inventor from Nod-Krai who runs the Clink-Clank Krumkake Craftshop — and, in story terms, the person who built Ineffa. Mechanically she is an off-field Hydro applicator with a heavy Elemental Mastery lean.
- Elemental Skill — Musecatcher: a throw-and-drag hook that can be held to aim and pulls enemies toward you. Useful for grouping, but it is not where her value lives.
- Elemental Burst — Precision Hydronic Cooler: deploys the Cool Your Jets Ducky inside a Focused Hydronic Cooling Zone. This is her actual job — sustained off-field Hydro application while your on-field carry does the damage.
- A1 — Modular Efficiency Protocol: at Ascendant Gleam, her water balls fire faster and cover a larger area.
- A4 — Structured Power Booster: increases her Burst damage by 50% of her Elemental Mastery, as additive base damage. This is the passive that makes EM stacking correct.
- Moonsign Benediction — Force Limit Analysis: raises the party's Moonsign level by +1.
That last line matters more than it looks. Because Aino pushes party Moonsign up by one, pairing her with a single other Moonsign character — Flins or Ineffa both qualify — reaches Ascendant Gleam (Moonsign Level 2) without a third slot. At Ascendant Gleam, 4pc Silken Moon's Serenade pays out its full 120 EM and 4pc Night of the Sky's Unveiling grants 30% CRIT Rate, per KQM's testing.
What are the best artifacts for Aino?
Here the community genuinely disagrees, and honest guides should say so rather than pick a winner silently.
KQM ranks 4pc Silken Moon's Serenade first. The 2-piece gives +20% Energy Recharge; the 4-piece gives 60 Elemental Mastery for a solo Nod-Krai character, doubling to 120 EM with a second Nod-Krai character on the team, plus +10% Lunar Reaction damage for the whole party. With Flins or Ineffa alongside her — which is the whole point of running Aino — you are always on the 120 EM half of that.
Icy Veins ranks 4pc Instructor as the best general support set, giving +80 EM from the 2-piece and +120 EM to the entire team for 8 seconds from the 4-piece, and lists Silken Moon's Serenade as a strong alternative.
Both readings are defensible. The practical resolution: if you already have a usable Instructor set sitting in your inventory, run it and spend your resin elsewhere — the gap is not large enough to justify a fresh farming project. If you are starting from nothing and you run Aino with a second Nod-Krai character, farm Silken Moon's Serenade.
| Artifact set | Verdict | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 4pc Silken Moon's Serenade | Best-in-slot (KQM) | 120 EM with a 2nd Nod-Krai character, +10% Lunar Reaction DMG party-wide |
| 4pc Instructor | Best general support (Icy Veins) | +120 EM to the whole team for 8s; already in most inventories |
| 4pc Noblesse Oblige | Strong alternative | Team ATK buff if your carry scales on ATK |
| 4pc Scroll of the Hero of Cinder City | Strong alternative | Elemental DMG bonus routing |
| 4pc Deepwood Memories | Situational | Only if a Dendro core is present |
| 4pc Gilded Dreams / Flower of Paradise Lost | Not recommended | FoPL only functions in Nilou Bloom teams |
Main stats: Sands ER or EM · Goblet EM or Hydro DMG% · Circlet EM or CRIT.
Substat priority: Energy Recharge until you hit your requirement → CRIT Rate (only if you are running Favonius) → Elemental Mastery ≥ CRIT → ATK%. ATK% is last because almost nothing in her kit converts it into damage.
How much Energy Recharge does Aino need?
This is the number that actually determines whether your Aino works, and it swings enormously depending on the weapon. Assuming one Elemental Skill cast per Burst and one Favonius proc per feasible teammate:
| Weapon | ER needed at C0 | ER needed at C4+ |
|---|---|---|
| Baseline (no ER weapon) | 190–250% | 150–215% |
| Favonius Greatsword | 155–205% | 125–165% |
| Flame-Forged Insight | 100–140% | 100% |
Every additional Favonius proc you can land lowers the requirement by roughly 10–30%. The reason so many Aino builds feel bad is people slot her at 140% ER with no Favonius in the party and then wonder why the Ducky is not up.
What are the best weapons for Aino?
She wants Energy Recharge or Elemental Mastery. Raw ATK on a claymore is close to wasted on her.
| Weapon | Rarity | Key stat | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Favonius Greatsword | 4★ | 454 ATK / 61.3% ER | Best general option — the ER passive fixes the whole build |
| Master Key | 4★ | 454 ATK / 61.3% ER | Craftable in Nod-Krai; the practical F2P pick |
| Makhaira Aquamarine | 4★ | EM-focused | Excellent when you are leaning fully into reactions |
| Forest Regalia | 4★ | 565 ATK / 30.6% ER | Solid if you have one; weaker ER than Favonius |
| Sacrificial Greatsword | 4★ | ER | Extra Skill cast; helps energy indirectly |
| Flame-Forged Insight | 4★ | 510 ATK / 165 EM | Strongest ER-efficiency, but event-limited and no longer obtainable |
| Katsuragikiri Nagamasa | 4★ | ER | Serviceable budget filler |
If you own nothing, craft the Master Key and stop worrying about it. Its stat line is identical to the Favonius Greatsword's, and the difference between them comes down to whether you need the Favonius passive to hit the ER thresholds above.
Should you level Aino's talents?
Mostly no — and this is the single most useful thing in this guide.
Aino's talent multipliers scale on ATK, but her practical damage comes from transformative reactions (which ignore talent levels entirely) and her A4 passive, which converts Elemental Mastery into additive base damage. KQM's guide is explicit that her talents can largely be skipped. Priority, if you level anything at all: Burst >> Skill, and Normal Attack essentially never.
That means the enormous "level everything to 10" material table most sites publish is describing a build almost nobody should actually complete. Level her to 90 for the Elemental Mastery from ascensions, put her Burst to a reasonable level, and spend the Crowns and books on a character whose talent levels do something.
Best Aino teams and rotations
The template is simple: Aino — Flins or Ineffa — Electro or flex — Anemo or flex.
Aino / Flins / Ineffa or Kuki Shinobu / Sucrose Rotation: `Ineffa E (Q) > Aino E Q > Sucrose E D (Q) > Flins combo`
Aino / Ineffa / Fischl / Heizou (quickswap) Rotation: `Ineffa E/Q > Aino E Q > Fischl N1 E/Q > Heizou N1 Q N4C E N4C`
Aino / Ineffa / Ororon / Ifa The full Nod-Krai package; Moonsign scaling is at its highest here.
In every one of these, Aino goes in before your carry so the Hydro field is already down when the damage starts. If you are still assembling the other half of these teams, our Flins build guide and Ineffa build guide cover the carries she is designed around.
Aino ascension and talent materials
For the full Level 90 plus all three talents to level 10 — which, again, you probably should not complete:
| Material | Total | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Varunada Lazurite Sliver / Fragment / Chunk / Gemstone | 1 / 9 / 9 / 6 | Hydro bosses, Oceanid, Hydro Hypostasis |
| Portable Bearing | 168 | Nod-Krai local specialty |
| Broken / Reinforced / Precision Drive Shaft | 36 / 96 / 129 | Nod-Krai common enemy drop |
| Precision Kuuvahki Stamping Die | 46 | Knuckle Duckle boss |
| Silken Feather | 18 | The Knave (weekly boss, Fontaine) |
| Teachings / Guide / Philosophies of Elysium | 9 / 63 / 114 | Lightless Capital Domain — Tue / Fri / Sun |
| Crown of Insight | 3 | Events, Offerings, Reputation |
| Hero's Wit | ~419 | — |
| Mora | ~7,050,030 | — |
Ascension only — no talents — costs 420,000 Mora, 168 Portable Bearings and the gem set. That is the version of this table that most players should budget for. Note the two hard gates: the Lightless Capital Domain only opens Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, and Silken Feathers come from a weekly boss, so talent levelling is time-gated no matter how much resin you have.
What players are saying
Three themes come up repeatedly in the community threads about building Aino right now.
Support levels are cheaper than people think. On the question of how much investment Sucrose needs in an Aino team, one r/Genshin_Impact commenter put it plainly: "Sucrose just needs to be leveled enough to unlock her passive talents… she's just there for TTDS, VV, and her EM boost." The consensus is that level 70 works, with 80 or 90 recommended if you have the resources spare.
The Knuckle Duckle is the real bottleneck. Multiple players report struggling with the boss that drops her Precision Kuuvahki Stamping Dies, not with the domain or the local specialty. If you are stuck there, that is the ascension step to plan around.
Prototype Amber keeps coming up as the sustain answer for Sucrose or Columbina in these teams — a low-cost craftable that removes the need for a dedicated healer slot when Aino already occupies one support position.
There is also an unresolved debate about whether Zhongli's resistance shred or Jean's Viridescent Venerer routing is the better fourth slot. Both work; it depends on whether your carry is reaction-driven or raw-damage-driven.
Frequently asked questions
Is Aino worth pulling for in 7.0? No — she is free from the Nod-Krai Archon Quest. Pulling only gets you constellations. C2 is the meaningful one: it adds an off-field coordinated water ball dealing 25% ATK plus 100% EM, once every 5 seconds, up to 3 times per Burst.
What is Aino's best artifact set? 4pc Silken Moon's Serenade if you run her with a second Nod-Krai character, 4pc Instructor if you already own one and do not want to farm. The difference is small enough that resin cost decides it.
What is the best free weapon for Aino? The craftable Master Key (454 ATK / 61.3% ER), which matches the Favonius Greatsword's stat line. Use Favonius instead if you need its energy passive to hit your ER threshold.
Do I need to level Aino's talents? Not really. Burst first, Skill second, Normal Attack never. Her damage comes from transformative reactions and her EM-scaling A4 passive, neither of which cares much about talent level.
How much Energy Recharge does Aino need? Roughly 190–250% at C0 with no ER weapon, dropping to 155–205% on the Favonius Greatsword, assuming one Skill cast per Burst.
When do the current Aino rate-up banners end? Both Phase II Event Wishes close at 2026/09/22 14:59 server time. Nothing about Version 7.1's banner line-up has been officially published yet.
