How to Get Archon Shards in Warframe: Every Source and Color (2026)

Archon Shards are the single biggest permanent power boost in Warframe: hexagonal mods you socket into your Warframe to raise ability strength, health, parkour speed, elemental damage and more, with no build cost once installed. If you have hit the endgame wall and want your favourite frames to hit harder and survive longer, farming shards is the next step. The problem is that there are now six shard colours across several different weekly activities, and the community is full of outdated guides that still say "just do the Archon Hunt." This guide covers every current source, which colour comes from where, and exactly how to install them — verified against Update 44.1 (The Icebind), live October 2026.

Quick answer: You get Archon Shards from four main sources: the weekly Archon Hunt (1 guaranteed shard, unlocked after the Veilbreaker quest), weekly Netracells (5 runs/week, ~65% shard chance each, unlocked by Whispers in the Walls), Deep and Elite Archimedea (weekly, in the Sanctum Anatomica), and the new The Icebind chest (Update 44.1, ~11.67% per base colour). The three base colours — Crimson, Amber, Azure — drop directly; the three fusion colours — Topaz, Violet, Emerald — come from Coalescent Fusion or Temporal Archimedea. Tauforged shards are a rarer variant worth 1.5× the normal stat. You install up to 5 shards per Warframe through the Helminth Archon Shard Segment.

What are Archon Shards and what do they do?

Archon Shards are permanent stat modules introduced in the Veilbreaker update (Update 32, 2022) and expanded steadily since. Each Warframe has five shard slots, unlocked through the Helminth Archon Shard Segment. Socket a shard and you get a flat, always-on bonus — extra ability strength, more health, faster casting, an elemental damage conversion — that costs no mod capacity and never turns off. Because they stack across five slots and apply to every build on that frame, shards are how endgame Tenno push a frame from "good" to "Steel Path comfortable."

There are two things to understand before you farm:

  • Colour = stat category. Each colour grants a different family of bonuses, so you farm specific colours for specific goals.
  • Tauforged = a stronger variant. Every colour has a rarer Tauforged version that gives 1.5× the stat of the normal shard (not double — a common myth). A Tauforged shard fills the same slot, so three Tauforged Crimson shards is the ceiling for an ability-strength build.

Archon Shard colours and their stats

As of 2026 there are six colours, each with a Tauforged variant:

ColourStat familyExample bonuses
CrimsonOffenseAbility Strength, Melee Crit Damage, Primary/Secondary status
AmberUtilityCasting Speed, Parkour Velocity, Energy Orb effectiveness, health-pickup bonus
AzureSurvivabilityHealth, Shield Capacity, Armor, Energy Max
TopazBlast/elementalBlast/Heat/Radiation damage, health-on-kill
VioletElectric/critElectricity damage, Melee Crit Chance, energy-to-health conversion
EmeraldToxinToxin/Corrosive damage, toxin status

The exact per-shard values move with balance hotfixes, so always confirm the current number in-game before committing a build. The key planning rule: Crimson for damage, Azure for tank, Amber for quality-of-life, and the fusion colours (Topaz/Violet/Emerald) for specific elemental builds.

How to get Archon Shards in Warframe

Source 1: The Archon Hunt (the main weekly)

The three Archon bosses — Boreal, Amar and Nira — the Archon Hunt targets, each tied to a specific shard colour

The Archon Hunt is the classic shard source and the first one most players unlock. It is a weekly sortie-style run of three linked missions ending in an assassination of one of the three Archons.

  • Unlock requirement: complete the Veilbreaker quest. Veilbreaker itself requires you to have finished The New War. (You do not need Call of the Tempestarii — that is a separate quest and is not part of the chain.)
  • Reward: clearing all three missions gives one guaranteed Archon Shard per week, in the colour tied to that week's Archon.
  • Weekly reset: Monday at 00:00 UTC.

The Archon rotates in a fixed order, and each one drops a specific colour:

ArchonShard colour it drops
AmarCrimson
NiraAmber
BorealAzure

So if you specifically need an Azure shard for a health build, you run the Archon Hunt on a Boreal week. The Tauforged chance on the Archon Hunt is 20% base, and it uses a pity system: every week you don't roll a Tauforged, the chance climbs by about 20%, then resets the moment you finally get one. Over time that averages out generously — but any single week is still a coin flip at best.

Source 2: Netracells (five shards' worth of rolls a week)

The Sanctum Anatomica, the Entrati lab hub where weekly Netracells and Deep Archimedea are run

Netracells are the volume source. They are weekly missions run from the Sanctum Anatomica, the Entrati lab hub.

  • Unlock requirement: complete the Whispers in the Walls quest.
  • Runs per week: 5 Search Pulses, resetting weekly.
  • Reward: Netracells are not a guaranteed shard. Each run rolls roughly 17.5% per base colour for a normal shard (about 52.5% combined) plus about 4.17% per colour for a Tauforged (about 12.5% combined) — a cumulative ~65% chance of at least one shard per run. Only the three base colours (Crimson, Amber, Azure) drop here.

Because you get five rolls, Netracells typically out-produce the single Archon Hunt shard over a week, even though no individual run is guaranteed. Running all five every week is the backbone of any serious shard farm.

Source 3: Deep and Elite Archimedea

Also run from the Sanctum Anatomica, Deep Archimedea is a harder weekly challenge with its own reward pool.

  • Deep Archimedea rewards the base three colours plus Tauforged versions.
  • Elite Archimedea offers five weekly rewards, one of which is a guaranteed Legendary Melee Arcane or a Tauforged Archon Shard — one of the most efficient Tauforged sources in the game if you can clear the difficulty.
  • Temporal Archimedea (the Warframe: 1999 variant) is where the fusion colours — Topaz, Violet and Emerald — show up as rewards, which is the main non-fusion way to get them.

These are endgame-gated by difficulty rather than a hard quest wall, but they assume you already have strong, well-modded frames.

Source 4: The Icebind (Update 44.1, new in October 2026)

The newest source is The Icebind, the six-player Cryobell mode added in Update 44.1.0 (October 7, 2026). Its Crested Frozen Chest drops an Azure, Crimson, or Amber Archon Shard at roughly 11.67% each per clear, alongside the mode's Riven Splicers and Kuva. It is not the most efficient shard farm on its own, but if you are already running The Icebind for Riven Splicers, the shards are a strong bonus. Drop rates here are DE-published and change on hotfix, so check the official drop tables for the live numbers.

Getting the fusion colours: Coalescent Fusion

If you need Topaz, Violet or Emerald and don't want to grind Temporal Archimedea, you can craft them with Coalescent Fusion. Fusion combines two base shards of the same colour into one shard of a fusion colour (or upgrades toward a Tauforged), spending additional resources. It is expensive, so most players only fuse for a specific elemental build they can't otherwise complete. Confirm the exact recipe and cost in-game, as DE adjusts fusion costs periodically.

How to install and use Archon Shards

The Helminth Archon Shard install screen with five slots, three filled with Crimson, Amber and Azure shards

Installing a shard is a one-time, per-frame action:

  • Finish the Veilbreaker quest to earn the Helminth Archon Shard Segment blueprint, then build and install it on your Helminth in your Orbiter.
  • Approach the Helminth and open the Archon Shards menu.
  • Select the Warframe you want to boost — each frame has its own five slots.
  • Slot a shard into an empty socket and pick the stat you want from that colour's options.

A few rules worth knowing:

  • Installing is free, but removing a shard destroys it unless you use a Bile-cost removal — plan before you socket.
  • Shards are per-frame. A shard installed on Saryn does nothing for Mesa; you farm shards for each frame you want to invest in.
  • Tauforged go in the same slots as normal shards at 1.5× value, so a fully Tauforged five-slot setup is the endgame ceiling.

Which shards should you farm first?

A practical priority for most players:

  • Casting-speed Amber shards are the universal quality-of-life pick — they make nearly every frame feel smoother and are an easy first investment.
  • Ability Strength Crimson shards are the go-to for nukers and ability-reliant frames (Saryn, Mesa, Nourish-Helminth builds).
  • Azure health/shield shards push survivability frames into Steel Path and Netracell-tier content comfortably.
  • Save fusion colours for a specific elemental build that genuinely needs them — don't fuse speculatively.

Because shards are permanent and stack across five slots, they compound: the more you farm and the more frames you invest in, the less any single piece of endgame content can wall you. For the content these shards are built for, see our Steel Path guide and best Warframes for Steel Path.

FAQ

How many Archon Shards can you put on one Warframe? Five. Every Warframe has five Archon Shard slots, unlocked through the Helminth Archon Shard Segment. Tauforged shards occupy the same slots as normal shards, just at 1.5× the stat value.

What is the difference between a normal and a Tauforged Archon Shard? A Tauforged shard gives 1.5× the stat bonus of a normal shard of the same colour — it is 50% stronger, not double. It is rarer and fits the same slot, so a fully Tauforged loadout is the strongest possible setup for a frame.

Which Archon drops which shard colour? Amar drops Crimson, Nira drops Amber, and Boreal drops Azure. The Archon Hunt rotates between them weekly (resetting Monday at 00:00 UTC), so you run the week matching the colour you need.

How do you get Emerald, Violet and Topaz shards? The three fusion colours do not drop from the Archon Hunt or Netracells. You get them through Coalescent Fusion (combining base shards) or as rewards from Temporal Archimedea. The base game's standard weekly content only drops Crimson, Amber and Azure.

What is the fastest way to farm Archon Shards each week? Run all 5 Netracells (the highest volume), clear the Archon Hunt for its guaranteed shard, and do Deep/Elite Archimedea if your frames can handle it. Doing all three weekly rotations is the standard endgame shard routine; The Icebind chest is a bonus if you are already running that mode.

Do you need to beat The New War to get Archon Shards? Yes, indirectly. Archon Shards require the Helminth segment and the Archon Hunt, both gated behind the Veilbreaker quest, and Veilbreaker requires The New War to be completed first.
