Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, 2026, and there are exactly two versions to buy: the Standard Edition at $69.99 and the digital-only Vault Edition at $99.99. That's a flat $30 gap — but the Vault packs eight extra Operators, a five-gun Signature Weapon Collection, a season of BlackCell, and a DMZ bonus, and it lets you play the August 21 beta as the game's headline Operators. So is the upgrade actually worth it, or is $30 better left in your wallet?
Here's the full breakdown of everything the MW4 Vault Edition includes, how it stacks up against Standard, what carries into the beta, and who should (and shouldn't) buy it.

Quick answer: Is the MW4 Vault Edition worth it?
TL;DR — The Vault Edition is worth it if you were already going to buy CoD Points, a Battle Pass, or extra Operator/gun bundles this cycle; skip it if you only care about the base multiplayer. For $30 over Standard, the Vault bundles content Activision normally sells piecemeal:
- 8 extra Operators — the four-strong Hostile Alliance Operator Pack (Price, Valeria, Ghost, Blix) plus the four-nation Special Forces Operator Pack (France, Germany, South Korea, UK), each with a local-language voice pack.
- Signature Weapon Collection — 5 weapons and Blueprints, each with an Apex Attachment (Kastov 762, ISO Nightshade, Rezi 12, Oris 8.6, Combat Knife).
- BlackCell (one season) — the premium Battle Pass tier for Season 01.
- DMZ Deployment Bonus — extra content inside MW4's returning DMZ mode.
- A 10% Loyalty Discount drops the Vault to roughly $89.99 for anyone who's owned and played a recent CoD.
If you regularly buy the Battle Pass and a bundle or two, the Vault is a straight discount on stuff you'd buy anyway. If you're a base-game-only player, Standard covers you — and every pre-order, Standard included, still gets beta Early Access and the Hunter Killer skin.
What editions of Modern Warfare 4 are there?
Per Activision's official editions breakdown, there are three ways to buy MW4 — but only two content tiers:
| Edition | Price (USD) | Format | Platforms | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Digital Standard | $69.99 | Digital | PS5, Xbox Series X\ | S, PC (Battle.net/Steam), Switch 2 |
| Physical Standard | $69.99 | Disc | PS5, Xbox Series X consoles | |
| Digital Vault | $99.99 | Digital only | All platforms, or as an upgrade from Standard |
Standard's regional pricing runs $69.99 / £69.99 / €79.99 / ¥9,800, per Activision's launch details. The Vault Edition is digital-only — there is no disc version — and it's also available as a $30 in-game upgrade if you already own the Digital Standard Edition, so you're never locked out by buying Standard first.
Two hard limits worth knowing before you pick: MW4 is not coming to PS4 or Xbox One, and it's not on Game Pass at launch. If you want it, you buy it. For the full price-and-platform rundown, see our Is Modern Warfare 4 free to play? guide.
What do you get in every edition (pre-order bonuses)?
Before we get to the Vault-exclusive stuff, note that every pre-order — Standard or Vault — unlocks a strong set of incentives. These are not Vault perks; they're for anyone who buys before launch:
- Open Beta Early Access — get into Weekend One (August 21–25) before it opens to everyone.
- Campaign Early Access (all digital editions) — play the full Campaign a week early, starting Friday, October 16 (PT).
- Hunter Killer Operator Skin (digital editions) — usable right now in Black Ops 7 and Warzone, and in MW4 at launch.
- Gilded Pearl Weapon Camo Pack (digital editions) — the "Moonlit Pearl" camo instantly in BO7 Season 05, plus "Gilded Ruin" for hitting a 5,000-Skull challenge (a serialized copy goes to the first 100,000 players to finish it). Both unlock in MW4 at launch.
So the beta, the early campaign, and the Hunter Killer skin are not reasons to jump to Vault — they come with Standard too. Our pre-order guide covers those bonuses in full.
What's inside the MW4 Vault Edition?
The Vault Edition includes the Digital Standard game and all the pre-order incentives above, then stacks the following on top. This is the content you're actually paying the extra $30 for.

The Operators: 8 extra characters across two packs
This is the Vault's biggest draw. You get two Operator packs — eight Operators total:
Hostile Alliance Operator Pack (unlocked at launch, October 23):
- Price
- Valeria
- Ghost
- Blix
Price and Valeria each ship with masked and unmasked variant skins, swappable via the emote system — a nice touch for a roster headlined by two of the franchise's most iconic faces.
Special Forces Operator Pack (Vault-only, at launch) — four real-world tier-one units, each with a country skin and a voice pack in that unit's local language:
- COM SFT (France)
- KSK Amphibious (Germany)
- South Korean Special Forces (South Korea)
- SAS (United Kingdom)
Eight Operators bought individually as store bundles would typically run well past $30 on their own, which is the core of the Vault's value argument.
The Signature Weapon Collection: 5 guns + Apex Attachments
The Vault unlocks five weapons and Blueprints at launch, each bundled with a special Apex Attachment — MW4's new tier of experimental, identity-defining mods (learn more in our MW4 weapons & Apex attachments guide):
A Signature Weapon Collection blueprint in the Gunsmith. Image: Activision / Infinity Ward.
- Kastov 762 Assault Rifle — "Voltspine" Blueprint. Apex: Kastov Arc, a disruption barrel that fires a high-intensity RF pulse to incapacitate infantry and destabilize vehicles.
- ISO Nightshade SMG — "La Sombra Venenosa" Blueprint. Apex: ISO Trace, RFID ammunition that tags a hit target on your optic so you can track and finish them.
- Rezi 12 Shotgun — "Shattered Code" Blueprint. Apex: Rezi Enforcer, adds pump-action cycling and a side-saddle for hot-loaded explosive slugs.
- Oris 8.6 Marksman Rifle — "Volt-Edge" Blueprint.
- Combat Knife (Melee) — "Sombra Besada" ("Shadow's Kiss") Blueprint.
BlackCell + DMZ Deployment Bonus
Rounding out the Vault:
- BlackCell (One Season) — the premium Battle Pass tier for Season 01, which normally sits above the standard Battle Pass and includes an exclusive Operator, Blueprints, bonus COD Points, and cosmetic variants. Activision has confirmed the inclusion; the exact Season 01 BlackCell contents will be detailed closer to launch.
- DMZ Deployment Bonus — additional in-mode content for Vault owners in MW4's returning DMZ mode.

As Activision puts it on the official Call of Duty blog, "the Modern Warfare 4 Vault Edition offers exceptional value — especially when combined with the 10% Loyalty Discount." That discount is the swing factor for most returning players (more below).

How the Vault helps you in the August beta
The MW4 beta runs across two weekends: Early Access on August 21–25 (pre-order required, Xbox/PS5/PC) and the Open Beta on August 28–September 1 (everyone, all platforms including Switch 2). See our beta dates & access guide for the full schedule.
Here's the Vault-specific edge: during the beta's Multiplayer portion, Vault pre-order owners can play as all four Hostile Alliance Operators (Price, Valeria, Ghost, Blix) and all four Special Forces Operators, and test the base weapon and Blueprint from every gun in the Signature Weapon Collection, Apex Attachment included. Standard owners still get into the beta — they just won't have those Operators and guns unlocked. If you want to run around as Ghost or Price on day one of the beta, that's a Vault-only experience. For everything else confirmed for the beta, see our beta maps, modes & weapons breakdown.
One important caveat: your beta progress does not carry into the full game — beta levels and unlocks reset. What carries over are the pre-order rewards and any confirmed beta rewards, not your beta rank. We cover exactly what carries over to MW4 in a dedicated guide.
Should you buy the Vault Edition? A quick decision guide
Buy the Vault if:
- You typically buy the Battle Pass and/or BlackCell each season anyway — the included BlackCell season alone claws back a big chunk of the $30.
- You want the headline Operators (Price, Ghost) at launch instead of grinding or buying bundles later.
- You qualify for the 10% Loyalty Discount, making the effective price ~$89.99.
Stick with Standard if:
- You only play core multiplayer and don't care about cosmetic Operators, Blueprints, or premium Battle Pass tiers.
- You want to try the game first — you can always pay the $30 upgrade to Vault later, so buying Standard costs you nothing in flexibility.
- You're on a budget and would rather spend on the specific bundles you actually want post-launch.
The smart middle path: if you're on the fence, buy Digital Standard now to lock in beta access and the pre-order rewards, then upgrade to Vault before launch if the BlackCell + Operators appeal once you've seen the game.
The 10% Loyalty Discount changes the math
Nearly every returning player qualifies for a 10% Loyalty Discount on the Vault Edition, which brings it to roughly $89.99 — a $20 gap over Standard rather than $30. You're eligible if you've owned and played any of these qualifying titles: Modern Warfare (2019), MW2 Campaign Remastered, Black Ops Cold War, Vanguard, Modern Warfare II (2022), Modern Warfare III (2023), Black Ops 6, or Black Ops 7. Game Pass players who played a qualifying CoD through the service also qualify. The catch: the discount applies only on the same platform account where you own and played the qualifying title, and it's a pre-order/pre-purchase offer that runs until launch.
Getting a head start before MW4 drops
MW4 isn't out yet — but the smart move is to walk in ready. Since progress in Black Ops 7 and Warzone is where the pre-order rewards (like the Hunter Killer skin) live right now, get set up in the live games so you hit MW4's launch grinding camos and levels, not learning menus:
Get launch-ready with timesaver.gg — live CoD & Warzone services:
- CoD Bot Lobbies — easy lobbies to level weapons and warm up fast
- CoD Account & Weapon Leveling — skip the grind, unlock loadouts quickly
- CoD Mastery Camo Unlocks — mastery camos, fast and secure
When MW4 lands on October 23, the players who already leveled up and banked their camos in BO7/Warzone will be the ones stomping lobbies week one.
FAQ
| How much does the Modern Warfare 4 Vault Edition cost? The Vault Edition costs $99.99 across PS5, Xbox Series X | S, and PC (Steam and Battle.net). The Standard Edition is $69.99, making the Vault a flat $30 upgrade — or about $20 more after the 10% Loyalty Discount, which brings the Vault to roughly $89.99 for eligible returning players. |
|---|
What Operators come with the MW4 Vault Edition? Eight, across two packs. The Hostile Alliance Operator Pack includes Price, Valeria, Ghost, and Blix (Price and Valeria have masked/unmasked variants). The Special Forces Operator Pack adds COM SFT (France), KSK Amphibious (Germany), South Korean Special Forces, and SAS (UK), each with a local-language voice pack.
Can I upgrade from Standard to Vault later? Yes. The Vault Edition is available as an in-game upgrade for players who already own the Digital Standard Edition, so buying Standard first doesn't lock you out — you just pay the difference whenever you decide.
Do I need the Vault Edition to play the MW4 beta? No. Any pre-order (Standard or Vault) gets you Early Access to the beta on August 21–25, and the Open Beta on August 28–September 1 is free for everyone with no pre-order required. The Vault only adds the ability to play the beta as its exclusive Operators and test the Signature Weapon Collection.
Is the MW4 Vault Edition worth it? It's worth it if you already buy the Battle Pass or BlackCell each season and want premium Operators like Price and Ghost at launch — the bundled BlackCell season and eight Operators comfortably exceed $30 in normal store pricing. If you only play base multiplayer and skip cosmetics, Standard is the better value, and you can always upgrade later.
Is Modern Warfare 4 on Game Pass? No — MW4 is not on Game Pass at launch, so you'll need to buy either the Standard or Vault Edition to play. It's also not releasing on PS4 or Xbox One.
