Tarkov BTR Driver Questline Guide (Season 1): Every Task in Order, Full Rep Rewards & the Savior Ending Trap (1.1.5.x, 2026)

Escape from Tarkov's BTR Driver questline is the hidden reputation grind almost nobody finishes on time — and in Season 1 (KORD BREACH), it's the gate on the game's best story ending. The BTR Driver isn't in your trader list, he has no rep bar you can see, and one wrong dialogue choice quietly bricks the whole thing. This guide lays out every BTR Driver task in order, the exact rep and rouble reward for each, the single quest that decides your ending, and the fastest clean path to the rep you actually need.

Quick answer: Start the BTR Driver quest line by accepting A Helping Hand from Mechanic. There are ~15 BTR tasks; completing them raises hidden BTR Driver reputation. The community-verified threshold for the Savior ending is roughly 0.4 BTR rep (plus ~4.0 Fence). The biggest single jump is The Price of Independence (+0.5 rep), which also unlocks the All-Wheel Drive achievement — but it's the point of no return. If you're chasing Savior, do not side with Skier in the branching quest, and never attack the BTR itself. Current live build: 1.1.5.1.47510 (Season 1 KORD BREACH, Aug 3 – Dec 7, 2026).

Everything below is verified against the in-game task text, the official questline data, and Season 1 patch state as of build 1.1.5.1.47510. Numbers are for the seasonal character; because there's no BTR rep value shown in the UI, treat the rep figures as the amounts each task grants, not a live counter you can read.

Who Is the BTR Driver and Why His Quests Matter

The BTR Driver is the guy who pilots the BTR-82A armored transport that patrols the main roads on Woods, Lighthouse, Customs and Reserve. He'll ferry you between extract-adjacent points for roubles and hold items in his side compartment. Unlike the nine standard traders, he's a special quest-giver — same category as Lightkeeper — with no visible reputation bar.

His questline exists for three reasons:

  • The 1.0 / Season 1 Savior ending. BTR reputation is one of the requirements for the "good" ending path. Finish his line the right way and you keep the door to Savior open; make one wrong choice and you lock yourself into Survivor, Debtor or Fallen. (See our full Tarkov all endings guide for how the four endings branch.)
  • The All-Wheel Drive achievement, granted by the final major task.
  • Solid rouble and gear rewards — the line pays out well over 2 million roubles across all tasks, plus a Graphics card, GPUs-tier barters at Mechanic, and a Velociraptor .300 BLK unlock.

Key misconception to kill right now: the BTR line is not required for Kappa. If Kappa is your only goal, skip it — grab our Collector all-items checklist instead. You do the BTR line for the ending and the rep achievement, not the container.

How to Start the BTR Driver Questline

There is exactly one unlock:

Accept A Helping Hand from Mechanic. That single task opens the entire BTR Driver quest chain.

A Helping Hand itself is a scouting task on Woods — locate and scout the warehouses, the office, and the garages at the depot. Finishing it hands you your first BTR rep and formally "introduces" you to the driver. From there, tasks come from the BTR Driver directly.

You also need to be progressing the main story, because several BTR tasks chain into map reworks (Lighthouse) and transit routes that only open once you've done the prerequisite Skier and Mechanic work. If a BTR task won't appear, the blocker is almost always a missing Mechanic or Skier prerequisite, not a bug.

Every BTR Driver Task in Order (Full Rewards)

Below is the questline with the exact rewards pulled from the live task data. Rep values are additive toward the hidden BTR total. Maps listed are where each objective is completed.

BTR rep values and the headline unlocks are verified against the official task data; the exact rouble payouts and secondary item rolls can drift a few thousand between hotfixes and editions, so treat the rouble column as close-not-final. Several early scouting tasks (Shipping Delay, Honest Review) feed in as prerequisites to the tasks above.

The Price of Independence: the +0.5 rep spike and point of no return

The Price of Independence is the single most important BTR task and the one every Savior-hunter stresses over. It grants +0.5 BTR rep in one hit — more than every other task combined — and unlocks the All-Wheel Drive achievement (which rewards the Modest Wallpaper hideout wall style that persists across wipes).

Note: All-Wheel Drive can also be unlocked by finishing Skier's "Choose Your Friends Wisely" — but that is the branch that sides with Skier and kills your Savior run. If Savior is the goal, get the achievement through The Price of Independence, never Skier's version.

It is also the point of no return. Once you commit to it, the branching Skier-vs-driver story choice is locked. A widely reported community walkthrough sums up the safe execution:

"IF YOU ARE GOING TO TERMINAL WITH SAVIOR, don't risk not having enough rep and do The Price of Independence. Go nighttime with NVGs and a Black MDR is easiest." — r/EscapefromTarkov BTR guide

Bring night-vision, a suppressed rifle, and don't rush the extract — the task ends with a survive-and-extract objective on Lighthouse, so dying after the flares cancels the run.

How Much BTR Rep Do You Actually Need?

There is no rep number in the UI, which is why half the confusion online exists. Based on repeated community testing across Season 1, the Savior ending requires approximately:

Because The Price of Independence alone is +0.5, finishing the line through that task clears the ~0.4 bar comfortably. Players on Unheard Edition reportedly start with +0.20 BTR rep, so they need even fewer tasks to reach the threshold.

Can you lose BTR rep? Officially unconfirmed, but two things are widely reported to cost you: attacking the BTR or killing its (nearly invisible) gunner, and making the wrong dialogue/branch choice. Since you can't see the number, play it safe — never shoot the transport.

The Savior Ending Trap: Don't Side With Skier

This is the mistake that ruins Savior runs. During the BTR line there's a branching point where the story lets you throw in with Skier instead of staying loyal to the driver's arc. For the Savior ending, do not side with Skier.

The reputation math connects to the wider Savior requirements: Savior needs you to trust Kerman, collect all 8 major evidences, and finish the Batya questline (which itself requires Lightkeeper unlocked — opening the Lighthouse map costs $20,000 to Mechanic). A player who maxes BTR rep but sides with Skier, or who pulls the Interchange power-station flash drive before pressing the hidden desk button, still gets kicked to Survivor or Debtor. Treat the BTR line and the evidence trail as one package, not two.

If you want the ending decision tree spelled out end to end, that's exactly what our Tarkov all endings guide covers.

Fastest Clean Path to Finish the BTR Line

If you're grinding this on a seasonal character with limited time, this is the efficient order:

  • Unlock early. Take A Helping Hand from Mechanic the moment it's available and knock out the Woods depot scouting — it's fast and safe.
  • Batch the Woods tasks. Swift Retribution, Self-Employed, Outplay and Destroy, Close the Sky and Barter are all Woods-centred — run them in overlapping raids to save time. Woods is also a strong money map, so you're farming roubles while you grind.
  • Do the marking tasks with an MS2000. Hot Wheels (Reserve), Ask for Directions (Lighthouse cliff path) and the fuel-tank stash (Shoreline) just need you alive at the right spot — low-kit runs work.
  • Save The Price of Independence for last, once you're confident on rep and have decided your ending. Go in kitted, night-time, suppressed.
  • Never touch the BTR and don't accept Skier's branch if Savior is the goal.

The grind is real: this is ~15 tasks across five maps, many gated behind transit routes and Skier/Mechanic prerequisites, and one of them (Build Bridges) makes you sell 150 items across three traders. If you're short on time or roubles, a quest boost or a stack of Tarkov roubles to fund the kit and barters clears the whole thing without the burnout — and keeps your seasonal character on track before the December 7 reset.

FAQ

How do I start the BTR Driver questline in Tarkov? Accept the task A Helping Hand from Mechanic. That single quest unlocks the entire BTR Driver quest chain — you can't get the driver's tasks any other way.

Are the BTR Driver quests required for Kappa? No. The BTR line is not part of the Collector/Kappa requirements. You complete it for the Savior ending and the All-Wheel Drive achievement, not the secure container.

How much BTR reputation do I need for the Savior ending? Community testing in Season 1 points to roughly 0.4 BTR Driver rep plus about 4.0 Fence rep. Since The Price of Independence grants +0.5 BTR rep on its own, finishing the line through that task clears the threshold. Unheard Edition reportedly starts you at +0.20.

What is the point of no return in the BTR questline? The Price of Independence. Committing to it locks the branching story choice and grants the big +0.5 rep spike and the All-Wheel Drive achievement. Decide your ending before you turn it in, and don't side with Skier if you want Savior.

Can I lose BTR Driver reputation? It's unconfirmed, but two things are widely reported to hurt you: attacking the BTR (or killing its near-invisible gunner) and picking the wrong dialogue branch (siding with Skier). Because there's no rep number in the UI, never shoot the transport and read the branch prompts carefully.

Do I have to do The Price of Independence for Savior? In almost all cases yes — it's the only task that reliably pushes you past ~0.4 rep. The one reported exception is failing the earlier wheel-marking task, which spawns alternative tasks that grant more rep; most players just do The Price of Independence the normal way.
