WARDOGS Recon Unlocks in Season 2: New Levels, Prices and Why Recon Costs More

Recon got a new rifle and a much bigger bill in WARDOGS Season 2. Update 0.2.0, live since 15 October 2026, added the M14 and its full attachment ladder to the Recon track, moved most Recon scopes and muzzles to different levels, and raised the price of nearly every spotting tool. Spotting itself also pays less. That's why r/WarDogs threads this week are titled "Recon is too expensive" and "Trying to lvl up recon this season is miserable".

This guide lists every Recon unlock BULKHEAD added or changed for Season 2, what each one costs to unlock and to carry every life, and how to level Recon without going broke.

Quick answer: In WARDOGS Season 2 the M14 unlocks at Recon level 25 for $100,000, then costs $7,400 per life. The BMR-308 moved down to Recon 20 (from 30), the SV98 to 18, and the MK22 up to 30. The 6-10x MOA scope dropped to level 19 while the 6-10x MRAD rose to 28. Recon got more expensive: the AMR 50 went from $8,800 to $14,800 per life, the Range Finder from $400 to $1,450, the Infrared Range Finder from $1,200 to $3,200 (and now runs on batteries), and binoculars from $75 to $180. Spotting rewards are about 30% lower than in Season 1. Role-track XP is faster, though: Recon 20 now takes 111,500 XP instead of 250,000.

Updated 22 October 2026. Applies to WARDOGS Season 2, Update 0.2.0 (patch notes posted on Steam 14 October 2026, season live 15 October 2026). WARDOGS is BULKHEAD's 100-player, three-team Control Zone shooter on PC. It is not a battle royale or an extraction shooter. Every level, price and percentage below is from the official Season 02 Patch Notes unless it is marked as a player report.

What changed for Recon in WARDOGS Season 2?

BULKHEAD's own summary of the Recon section, verbatim from the Season 02 Patch Notes: "Recon gets the new M14 and its attachments, and most scopes and attachments have swapped levels."

That covers three kinds of change:

  • New unlocks. The M14 (with its 10 round magazine), six more M14 attachments and magazines, and a new PU 91/30 scope for the Mosin.
  • Level swaps. The BMR-308, SV98, MK22, both 6-10x scopes, the ghillie suits, the compound bow, the claymore and most muzzle devices moved up or down the track.
  • Price changes. Several unlock fees went up (compound bow, claymore, range finder), and the per-life vendor prices of most spotting tools went up sharply.

Two changes outside the Recon section hit Recon players too. Spotting payouts were cut, and rain, new in Season 2, reduces spotting range. Both are covered further down.

What are the new Recon unlock levels and fees in Season 2?

Every item in WARDOGS has two gates. A level on its progression track makes it available, usually with a one-time unlock fee in Cash. After that you pay a per-life vendor price each time you deploy with it. This table is the first half: every Recon unlock the Season 02 Patch Notes added or moved, with its level and unlock fee, sorted by Season 2 level. Recon items the notes didn't touch aren't listed. Where a level or fee isn't shown, the Season 02 Patch Notes didn't list a change to it.

The patch notes also changed three Recon unlock fees without moving the level: the Range Finder went from $15,000 to $25,000, the SV98 Bipod dropped from $30,000 to $17,500, and the BMR-308 Suppressor dropped from $27,500 to $25,000.

Three things stand out:

  • The BMR-308 moved ten levels earlier. It now unlocks at Recon 20 instead of 30, two levels after the SV98 at 18.
  • The two 6-10x scopes swapped places. MOA moved down to 19 and MRAD moved up to 28. If you remember MRAD as the early one from Season 1, it isn't any more.
  • The full M14 kit is a $287,500 unlock bill. That's the M14 bundle plus all six M14 attachments and magazines, spread from level 25 to level 42.

Is the M14 worth unlocking in WARDOGS?

The M14 is Season 2's new marksman rifle, chambered in .308 Win. It costs $100,000 to unlock at Recon 25 and $7,400 per life at the vendor, which makes it the most expensive of the four new Season 2 guns (the TCX-SPR is $3,200, the PP-19 Bizon $1,000 and the Evo-3 Ultra $7,250).

Before you spend on it, know what Season 2 did to .308. The patch notes cut .308 Winchester base damage by 25%, the biggest calibre cut in the patch. BULKHEAD explained why: high-calibre rounds "in assault rifles, DMRs and LMGs… were doing close to sniper damage at a much faster fire rate." DMRs were then re-tuned so they "sit between assault rifles and snipers. They should be more punishing than an assault rifle, but not a faster-firing sniper rifle."

The patch notes list the M14 as a marksman rifle, so expect it to behave like the re-tuned DMR class: not a sniper rifle that fires faster, but a mid-range rifle that hits harder than an assault rifle. Our take:

  • Unlock it if you play Recon as a forward spotter who fights at mid range and wants faster follow-up shots than a bolt-action.
  • Skip it early if you're mainly a long-range sniper. Sniper rifles kept the big single-shot role: BULKHEAD says it "increased their hit-location damage to counter the base damage reduction to keep that sniper fantasy."
  • Buy parts in order. The 20 round magazine (level 31, $110 per life) and bipod (level 29, $1,480 per life) change how the rifle plays more than the muzzle devices do.

One r/WarDogs thread this week asks why the SVD is a "4 - 5 shot kill on level 1 - 2" armor. That's a player report, not a published number, but it fits the patch: 7.62x54mmR base damage was also cut by 20%.

Why does Recon cost so much more in Season 2?

Recon is the role that buys the most optics and spotting gear, and those are exactly the items Season 2 repriced. These are the per-life vendor prices from the patch notes' Price Increases list:

ItemSeason 1Season 2Change
Binoculars$75$180+140%
Monocular$150$350+133%
Range Finder$400$1,450+263%
Infrared Range Finder$1,200$3,200+167%
Compound Bow$800$1,350+69%
Scout Rifle TD$1,100$1,200+9%
BMR-308$6,000$6,250+4%
AMR 50$8,800$14,800+68%

What that does to a real loadout:

  • BMR-308 + Range Finder: $6,400 per life in Season 1, $7,700 now (+20%).
  • AMR 50 + Range Finder: $9,200 per life in Season 1, $16,250 now (+77%).
  • Binoculars-only spotter: $75 in Season 1, $180 now. It's still cheap in absolute terms, but it's more than double.

The Infrared Range Finder also changed how it works. BULKHEAD disabled it in the vendor on 2 October because it was "too overpowered," and it came back in Season 2 with a battery: "A battery lasts around 80s of active use. Drains faster if quickly toggled on and off." So the $3,200 isn't the whole cost. You're also paying for batteries and limited use time.

A few Recon items got cheaper. Per life, the BMR-308 Flash Hider dropped from $1,280 to $930 and the AMR 50 Cal Muzzle Brake from $1,600 to $1,380. Unlock fees for the SV98 Bipod and BMR-308 Suppressor also dropped (see the table above). They don't offset the optics increases.

Does spotting still pay in WARDOGS Season 2?

It pays less. The Season 02 Patch Notes say, verbatim: "Spotting rewards are now around 30% lower than Season 1 as it was the lowest-risk, highest-paying way to earn. They now also scale with the value of what you've found, so high-value targets pay more than low-value ones."

Three more spotting changes:

  • Spotting scales with target value. A spotted armed vehicle variant should pay more than an unarmed one, because "spotting rewards now scale with the value of each vehicle variant, buildable and crate."
  • Enemy kills on your spots pay half as much. If an enemy faction, rather than your own team, destroys the target you spotted, you now get 25% of the reward instead of 50%.
  • No more farming half-built structures. "Spotting added and removed rewards now scale with build progress, to stop farming spots on unfinished buildables."

And the weather is against you now. Rain is new in Season 2, and the patch notes say plainly: "Spotting range is affected by rain."

Players say the same about XP. One player levelling Recon this week wrote on r/WarDogs: "Its decent but its slower than it used to be. Spotting etc gives alot less xp." That's a player report. BULKHEAD documented the spotting Cash cut but hasn't published per-action Recon XP values, so a matching XP cut is our inference, not a confirmed change.

Our advice: spot what's worth money. Since payouts scale with value, we'd spend binocular time on armed vehicles, artillery and big buildables rather than on lone infantry or empty crates.

How do you level Recon faster in Season 2?

Here's the good news. Role-track XP got much faster in Season 2, and Recon is a role track. BULKHEAD, verbatim: "Reaching level 20 now takes less than half the playtime it did in Season 1."

Recon levelWhat it unlocks (examples)Total XP, Season 1Total XP, Season 2
10PU 91/30 Mosin scope35,00025,000
20BMR-308250,000111,500
25M14365,000206,600
30MK22500,000318,200
35(M14 30 RND at 36)750,000525,000
40(Ghillie Dead at 41)975,000712,500
50(Three Port Brake at 49)1,500,0001,150,000

So the level grind is shorter, while the Cash side (unlock fees, per-life prices, lower spotting pay) got heavier. Here's how we'd handle both:

  • Earn Recon XP with Recon gear. BULKHEAD's pre-launch description of the system is that you "purchase specialist items to build your perfect loadout to earn XP across 6 progression tracks." Deploy with the cheapest Recon item that still does the job, binoculars at $180 rather than a $3,200 IR Range Finder, while you climb to 20.
  • Aim for the BMR-308 at 20. Recon 20 now takes 111,500 total XP, and the BMR-308 sits there, ten levels earlier than in Season 1.
  • Hold the M14 until you have the Cash. $100,000 to unlock plus $7,400 a life adds up fast if you die often at mid range.
  • Spot high-value targets in dry weather. Rain shortens spotting range, so clear-weather rounds are your best spotting windows.
  • Earn Cash in Hot Zones and on objectives. BULKHEAD describes the Hot Zone as paying double Cash, and Season 2 raised hostile drill tower captures from $750 to $1,500. Our WARDOGS money guide covers the best Season 2 earners.

For the full levelling method across every track, see our fastest way to level up in Season 2. If you're deciding what to wear on a long-range build, our armor tiers guide explains when Level 3 is worth the money.

Will Recon levels reset in Season 3?

Very likely, yes. BULKHEAD's reset rule for every season so far: Cash and XP progression reset, Cash converts to Gold Bars, and Gold Bars and cosmetics stay. Your Recon 25 M14 unlock is a Season 2 asset, not a permanent one.

The timing may come sooner than planned. On 17 October 2026 the official @WARDOGS account posted that progression had been sped up "but it was the wrong call," and that BULKHEAD is "looking at significantly bringing forward Season 3 and some of its content, so you get a proper fresh start." No Season 3 date has been published as of 22 October 2026. Our Season 3 release date guide tracks it, and everything we know about Season 2 covers the rest of the patch.

What that means for Recon: an early wipe makes a $287,500 M14 kit harder to justify late in the season. If you want the M14, unlock it early and use it, or skip the attachment chain past the 20 round magazine and bipod.

Short on time to reach Recon 25? Our team levels your Recon track by hand to the gate you name, whether that's the BMR-308 at 20 or the M14 at 25, so you can spend your evenings actually using it.

FAQ

What level is the M14 in WARDOGS? The M14 unlocks at Recon level 25 in Season 2, with its 10 round magazine. The unlock fee is $100,000, and after that it costs $7,400 per life at the vendor.

What level is the BMR-308 in WARDOGS Season 2? The BMR-308 moved from Recon level 30 to Recon level 20 in Season 2. Its per-life vendor price went up slightly, from $6,000 to $6,250.

Why is Recon so expensive in WARDOGS now? Season 2 raised the per-life price of most spotting and long-range gear. The Range Finder went from $400 to $1,450, the Infrared Range Finder from $1,200 to $3,200, binoculars from $75 to $180 and the AMR 50 from $8,800 to $14,800. Spotting rewards were also cut by around 30%, so Recon earns less while spending more.

Does spotting give less money in WARDOGS Season 2? Yes. BULKHEAD says spotting rewards are "around 30% lower than Season 1" and now scale with the value of the target. If an enemy faction destroys a target you spotted, you get 25% of the reward instead of 50%.

Which 6-10x scope is better to unlock first in WARDOGS? In Season 2 the 6-10x MOA scope unlocks first, at Recon 19 (it was 26). The 6-10x MRAD moved from Recon 18 to Recon 28. That's the reverse of Season 1, so most players will reach MOA first now.

Do WARDOGS Recon levels carry over to Season 3? Very likely not. Under the reset rule every season has followed so far, Cash and XP progression reset when a new season starts, so Recon levels and unlocks would go with them. BULKHEAD is considering bringing Season 3 forward, but no date has been published as of 22 October 2026.
