Warzone Ranked Play Locked or 'Further Verification Required'? How to Actually Unlock It (2026)

Quick answer (TL;DR): Warzone Ranked Play (Ranked Play: Resurgence) is locked until you earn 20 qualifying top placementsTop 15 in Battle Royale or Top 6 in Resurgence, in any combination, across the season. Only standard Battle Royale and standard Resurgence countCasual, Bootcamp, Plunder and any Limited-Time Mode do NOT, which is the #1 reason people grind for hours and the counter never moves. If Ranked shows locked after you've hit the placements, it's almost always one of three things: (1) you were playing a non-counting playlist (quads/casual/LTM); (2) a "Further Verification Required — continue playing Warzone for access" account-security gate that clears once you've built up enough legitimate Warzone playtime and 2FA is enabled; or (3) on PC, a failed RICOCHET Remote Attestation / TPM 2.0 / Secure Boot check (a security block, not a ban). Restarting the game clears the most common display-desync. Full step-by-step below. Activision's own requirement: weapons are "restricted to those found in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7" and PC Ranked "will require a stronger form of Remote Attestation" (support.activision.com).

You finished a strong session, went to click Ranked Play — and it's greyed out, or it throws "Further Verification Required", or it still reads 3/20 when you know you've placed high way more than three times. Ranked is the one mode in Warzone you can't just queue into on day one, and its unlock is genuinely confusing: the requirement is worded vaguely in-game, the counter only tracks specific playlists, and there are two separate security gates that can lock it on top of the placement grind. This guide untangles all of it — exactly what counts, why your progress isn't registering, and how to clear the "locked" and "further verification" states — with the current 2026 requirements verified against Activision's own support pages.

Why is Warzone Ranked Play locked?

There are three different reasons Ranked shows locked, and the fix depends entirely on which one you're hitting. Diagnose first:

  • Reason 1 — You haven't hit 20 qualifying placements yet (the normal gate). Every new season/account has to qualify for Ranked Play: Resurgence. This is by design, not a bug.
  • Reason 2 — Your placements aren't counting. You're placing high but the counter (e.g. 7/20) won't move, or it reset. This is almost always a wrong-playlist problem, occasionally a display desync.
  • Reason 3 — A security gate. Either the "Further Verification Required: continue playing Warzone for access" popup, or on PC a "Ranked Play matchmaking is unavailable — secure attestation requirements" error. These are account/anti-cheat checks layered on top of the placement requirement.

Work out which reason applies, then jump to that section.

How do you unlock Warzone Ranked Play? (the real requirement)

To unlock Ranked Play: Resurgence, you must earn 20 top placements, counted as either:

  • Top 15 in Battle Royale, or
  • Top 6 in Resurgence

…in any combination, until you reach 20 total. There is no minimum player level and no win requirement — a Top 15 finish in BR counts exactly the same as a Top 6 in Resurgence, and you can mix the two freely (Dexerto, Dot Esports).

Three hard rules that trip everyone up:

  • Only standard playlists count. Placements in Casual Battle Royale, Bootcamp, Plunder, and any Limited-Time Mode do not count toward the 20. This is, by a wide margin, the most common reason the counter looks stuck.
  • Placements carry within the season. Finishes you banked earlier in the current season count toward the requirement — you don't have to do all 20 in one sitting.
  • It's placement, not kills. You do not need to win. Simply surviving to Top 15 (BR) or Top 6 (Resurgence) ticks the counter, so playing a little passively and surviving is far more efficient than hunting kills and dying at 30th.

⚠️ Watch the misinformation. You'll see players insist it's "top 5, 20 times" or "top placement, 30 times." The 30-match number is from an older Warzone season and is out of date; the current requirement is 20, and the thresholds are Top 15 (BR) / Top 6 (Resurgence) — not top 5. Follow the numbers above.

The fastest legit way to qualify

Because only placement matters, Resurgence is the faster grind: matches are shorter, respawns are on, and Top 6 is far more forgiving than Top 15 in a full 150-player BR lobby. Drop to a quieter part of the map, third-party fights instead of starting them, and prioritise staying alive into the final circles. Most players clear 20 Top-6 Resurgence finishes considerably quicker than 20 Top-15 BR finishes. Fix: my Warzone Ranked placements aren't counting

If the qualification counter is frozen at, say, 7/20 even though you keep placing high, run these in order:

  • Confirm the playlist. Open the mode select and make sure you're in standard Battle Royale or standard Resurgencenot Casual, Bootcamp, Plunder, a themed LTM, or a "quads/duos casual" variant. If the playlist name has "Casual" or an event tag on it, those placements are worth zero toward the unlock.
  • Restart the game. The qualification counter can display-desync — it registered your placement server-side but didn't refresh the on-screen tally. A full close-and-relaunch (not just backing out to the menu) re-pulls your real count. This clears the majority of "it's not counting" reports.
  • Check you actually hit the threshold. Top 15 in BR / Top 6 in Resurgence. Finishing 16th in BR or 7th in Resurgence does not count, even though it feels close.
  • Re-log your platform account. Sign out of your Activision/console account and back in to force a fresh sync if the count still looks wrong after a restart.
  • Give it one match. Occasionally the tick lands one match late. Play one more qualifying game and re-check before assuming it's broken.

If, after all of that, high placements in the correct modes still aren't registering at all, it's an account-side issue — file a ticket at support.activision.com with your platform and a clip/screenshot of a qualifying finish.

Fix: "Further Verification Required — continue playing Warzone for access"

This popup is a separate account-security gate, not the placement requirement. It appears when Activision's systems want more legitimate playtime on the account before granting Ranked access — most commonly on newer accounts, freshly-purchased copies, or accounts that jumped straight into Warzone with very little history.

What actually clears it, based on the most consistent player reports:

  • Keep playing standard Warzone. The gate is time/activity-based. Players report it clearing after accumulating a handful of hours of genuine Warzone playtime — some as little as ~5 hours, others closer to ~9–18 hours. There's no exact public number; treat it as "build a normal play history."
  • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on your Activision account at my.callofduty.com. A verified, 2FA-protected account is treated as more trustworthy and is a commonly-cited step for clearing verification prompts.
  • Make sure your account is in good standing — no active enforcement, a linked/verified email, and a linked platform.
  • Don't rely on VPNs or shared/rented accounts while this gate is active; unusual login patterns make the verification stricter.

It is not a ban and not the placement counter — you can be sitting at 20/20 placements and still see this until your account clears the trust check. Keep playing normally and it lifts.

Fix: PC "secure attestation" / RICOCHET locking Ranked

On PC specifically, Ranked can be blocked with a message about secure attestation or matchmaking unavailable. When Ranked Play launched (Season 02), Activision layered a stronger RICOCHET Remote Attestation on top of the existing hardware requirements: "RICOCHET Anti-Cheat will require a stronger form of Remote Attestation for PC players, in partnership with Microsoft… building on our existing TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot requirements" (support.activision.com).

Translation: to play Ranked on PC you must have, and pass, all three:

  • TPM 2.0 enabled in BIOS/UEFI
  • Secure Boot enabled
  • A clean RICOCHET attestation at launch (a per-session security handshake)

If Ranked is locked with an attestation/security error on PC:

  • Enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot in your motherboard BIOS/UEFI if they're off. (This is the same requirement that gates Black Ops 7 itself — see our enrollaik.exe / TPM attestation fix for the exact steps.)
  • Approve the security prompts. When Windows shows a UAC prompt for the CoD security installer at launch, choose Yes — declining leaves attestation incomplete and blocks Ranked.
  • Restart Windows after enabling TPM/Secure Boot so the change is registered, then relaunch.
  • Don't clear your TPM — clearing it mid-season can re-trigger the attestation gate.

This is a compliance check, not a punishment: once TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and RICOCHET attestation all pass, Ranked unlocks normally (assuming you've also met the 20-placement requirement).

Ranked in Warzone vs Ranked in Black Ops 7 — don't confuse the two

A lot of "ranked is locked" confusion comes from mixing up the two completely separate Ranked modes:

Warzone Ranked Play: ResurgenceBlack Ops 7 Multiplayer Ranked Play
Unlock requirement20 top placements (Top 15 BR / Top 6 Resurgence)50 Wins in matchmade Multiplayer
What countsStandard BR + Resurgence onlyStandard MP wins (not Party/LTM)
Starting rankPlacement via SR from Silver upWin 3 Placement Matches
PC securityTPM 2.0 + Secure Boot + RICOCHET attestationSame

Finishing top 6 in Resurgence does nothing for your Black Ops 7 Multiplayer Ranked unlock, and MP wins do nothing for Warzone Ranked. Skip the grind (safely)

The 20-placement qualifier and the SR climb that follows are a real time sink — and every season the top rewards (Ranked camos, calling cards, charms) vanish at the wipe. If you'd rather lock the rank and rewards without the hours:

Frequently Asked Questions

How many placements do you need to unlock Warzone Ranked Play? 20 total. Each Top 15 finish in Battle Royale or Top 6 finish in Resurgence counts as one, in any combination, until you reach 20. There's no player-level or win requirement — placement is all that matters.

Why aren't my top placements counting toward Ranked? Almost always because you're playing a non-qualifying playlist. Only standard Battle Royale and standard Resurgence count — Casual, Bootcamp, Plunder and Limited-Time Modes are worth zero. If you're certain you're in the right mode and the threshold was met, the counter has likely display-desynced: fully close and relaunch the game to refresh your real count.

What does "Further Verification Required: continue playing Warzone for access" mean? It's an account-security/trust gate — separate from the placement requirement — that appears mostly on newer or low-history accounts. It clears after you build up enough legitimate Warzone playtime (players report a handful of hours) and is more likely to lift quickly if you've enabled 2FA on your Activision account. It is not a ban.

Is Warzone Ranked locked because of TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot on PC? It can be. PC Ranked requires TPM 2.0, Secure Boot, and a passing RICOCHET Remote Attestation check. If Ranked throws a "secure attestation" or "matchmaking unavailable" error, enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot in BIOS, approve the security prompt at launch, and restart Windows.

Do casual or Plunder placements count toward Ranked qualification? No. Only standard Battle Royale and Resurgence placements count. Casual BR, Bootcamp, Plunder and any Limited-Time Mode are excluded, which is the single most common reason people think the unlock is bugged.

Is Ranked Play the same in Warzone and Black Ops 7? No — they're separate modes with separate unlocks. Warzone Ranked needs 20 top placements; Black Ops 7 Multiplayer Ranked needs 50 matchmade Multiplayer wins. Progress in one does nothing for the other.
