When exactly does WoW 12.1.5 release?

October 13, 2026, alongside weekly realm maintenance. Blizzard stated it plainly in the content-update preview: "Gather your allies and step into the next chapter of Midnight on October 13." North American realms get it during the Tuesday, October 13 maintenance window; EU realms follow on Wednesday, October 14 as usual.

This supersedes our earlier coverage. When we published our 12.1.5 release-date tracker and the Promise of Tomorrow campaign guide, Blizzard had not committed to a date — both said "no confirmed date, outlets expect October." What should I do the week BEFORE launch (October 6)?

This is the single highest-value, lowest-effort thing on the list, and it has a hard deadline. During the week of October 6 maintenance, Orin Straylight in Silvermoon City starts letting you earn one extra Nebulous Voidcore per week — a bonus-roll currency for extra raid/dungeon loot. But you have to unlock it first, and Blizzard explicitly says to do it before the patch:

"To get an early start on the Nebulous Voidcore quest chain, we encourage Azeroth's brave champions to complete both quests before weekly maintenance during the week of October 6." — Blizzard, 12.1.5 content update preview

The exact steps:

• Accept "In the Catalyst's Shadow" from Decimus in Voidstorm.
• Travel to Silvermoon City and pick up "Prismatic Potential" from Orin Straylight.
• Turn in "Prismatic Potential." Orin starts a research timer (a progress bar appears above his head).
• After his research completes the week of October 6, he offers "Umbral Blessings of the Catalyst." Complete it to unlock trading gold, Voidlight Marl, or Veteran Mistcrests for one extra Nebulous Voidcore per week.

Why it matters: an extra bonus roll every week compounds fast in a fresh mid-season gearing race. Miss the week-of-October-6 window and you're behind on coins the moment the raid opens. Stockpile some gold and don't vendor your Voidlight Marl or Veteran Mistcrests — you'll feed them straight to Orin.

Do these on the last reset before launch so nothing is wasted:

• Spend or bank crests smartly. The crest cap lifts the week of October 20, so you don't need to panic-cap, but do finish any upgrade that's one crest tier from a real power gain now — item level going into the new raid decides your first-week Keystone and Heroic viability.
• Empty bag clutter, keep the trade-in mats. Hold Voidlight Marl and Veteran Mistcrests for Orin. Vendor genuine junk to free bag space for the campaign and Labyrinth reward flood.
• Finish outstanding Season 2 achievements you're close to — the mid-season refresh shifts everyone's attention to new content on day one.

What new content opens on October 13?

Four things go live at once. Prioritize them in this order for the fastest power and the best rewards:

1. The Unbinding of Kith'ix (single-boss raid). A focused, single-boss fight against Kith'ix, the C'Thraxxi general the Amani locked away, with Story, Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties — and flexible 15–25 player Mythic. You confront him with Lady Liadrin at your side. Because it's one boss, it's the single fastest AOTC/Cutting Edge target of the season. 2. Labyrinth of Kindo'jan (mega-dungeon). A nine-chamber, Delve-like gauntlet — Blizzard describes it as "a sprawling, mega-dungeon-like experience designed to be conquered on your terms." You bring a companion (Valeera Sanguinar), run it in one epic session or one wing at a time, and each additional room cleared means more loot and more risk. 3. Season 2 Keystone Myth. The Mythic+ ceiling returns: earn "Midnight Keystone Myth: Season 2" by reaching a Mythic+ rating of 3600. Blizzard is also making targeted dungeon-tuning adjustments to fix difficulty outliers when it launches. If 3600 is a stretch, a Keystone Master carry closes the gap.

4. The Promise of Tomorrow (story campaign). Picks up after Ula'tek's defeat: broker peace between Quel'Thalas and Zul'Aman, descend into the Coiled Isle, and make a final stand against Kith'ix. Do this first on day one — it gates context and, typically, reward unlocks.

How do Ascendant Venomstones work, and when do I get them?

Not on day one — the week of October 20. This is the mid-season power ceiling raise, and it runs on Orin's research timer:

• Week of October 13: Orin offers "Ancient Depths, Ancient Venom." Complete it to start his Venomstone research.
• Week of October 20: research finishes; he offers "Ascending with Venomstones." Complete it to start collecting Ascendant Venomstones.

Venomstones drop from every Heroic or Mythic raid boss, Mythic+ keys at +10 and above, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves, and Nightmare Prey Hunt Champion gear chests. Collect 10, then use them near the Catalyst in Silvermoon City to raise the item level of a fully upgraded Season 2 Hero, Myth, or max-quality Tidal Crafted weapon, trinket, or necklace. Is the Aqir Invasion worth doing at launch?

Yes — it's efficient catch-up gearing and it's up from day one. Aqir Invasions are new zone-wide public events in Eversong Woods and Zul'Aman. For ten minutes each hour, you tackle a chain of public events across the zone, then fight an intense boss at the end.

Each invasion pulls from six scenario types (three combat, three non-combat), and combat scenarios roll one of eight affixes — including Void Protection (an Aqir Voidweaver shields nearby enemies), Aqir Burrower (enemies knock you skyward), Swarms! (all enemies replaced with smaller swarms), and Void Infestation (infested Aqir explode).
