ZZZ Bangboo Tier List (Version 3.2): Best Bangboos Ranked

Nearly every Bangboo tier list ranks these things by rarity. That is the wrong axis, and the roster proves it: not one S-Rank Bangboo in the game triggers its team bonus off a generic role. Every single Bangboo that works in almost any squad is an A-Rank.

Quick answer: There are 41 Bangboo in Zenless Zone Zero as of Version 3.2 — 21 S-Rank and 20 A-Rank — but only 33 are pullable from the Bangboo Channel. Rarity is a poor guide to value because 16 of the 21 S-Ranks are locked behind a specific faction or one named Agent, while the A-Ranks that trigger on a generic Specialty (Support, Attack, Anomaly, Stun, Defense, Rupture) work in nearly any team. The strongest all-purpose picks are Booressure, Avocaboo and Knightboo — all A-Rank, and two of the three cost zero Boopons. Version 3.2 added no new Bangboo, so the roster is stable and this is a safe patch to spend Boopons. The one mechanic worth knowing before you pull: you must select a target S-Rank, any S-Rank you hit is that target, and you can switch targets at any time without losing pity.

Article status: checked 15 September 2026 for Version 3.2. Every Bangboo's skill text was read individually from a database refreshed for 3.2 on 8 September, rather than summarised from another tier list, and all skill values below are quoted at Core Level 1.

What is a Bangboo in Zenless Zone Zero?

HoYoverse's own description is the useful one. On the official Zenless Zone Zero site, Bangboo are introduced like this:

"When you walk down the street and see a small figure making 'enn enn' noises, don't be alarmed. It's just a Bangboo — an intelligent device unique to New Eridu."

In combat they are the fourth member of a three-Agent squad. One Bangboo deploys per team, acts automatically, participates in Chain Attacks, and carries three skills: an Active Skill, an Additional Ability that only switches on when your squad meets a condition, and a Bangboo Chain Attack that follows up your squad's Chain Attack. Some Bangboo have no Bangboo Chain Attack at all.

That middle skill is the entire tier list. Active Skills are roughly the same order of magnitude across the roster; the Additional Ability is where the real value sits, and it is conditional. A Bangboo whose condition your team does not meet is close to a blank slot — which is why ranking by rarity misleads so many players.

How the Bangboo Channel actually works

The Bangboo Channel, called An Outstanding Partner, is permanent. It costs Boopon, not Polychrome, and the two are not interchangeable. One Boopon buys a single Signal Search.

You unlock it by progressing through Chapter 1: Intermission until the Turbo Remodeling Shop opens. Boopons accumulate before then, so nothing is wasted if you have not reached it yet.

The rates, as published in the channel's in-game Signal Search Details panel:

RankBase rateIncluding guaranteeWhat you actually get
S-Rank1.000%2.000%Your selected S-Rank Bangboo
A-Rank15.000%18.000%One of 12 A-Rank Bangboo
B-Rank84.000%80.000%A B-Rank W-Engine, not a Bangboo

That bottom row is the number most guides bury. Roughly 80 out of every 100 Boopons return a W-Engine rather than a Bangboo once the ten-pull guarantee is counted, and 84 in 100 before it. The Bangboo Channel has no B-Rank Bangboo in it at all — the filler is fifteen B-Rank W-Engines. Budget accordingly.

A ten-pull Search Results screen on the Zenless Zone Zero Bangboo Channel showing one S-Rank, two A-Rank and seven B-Rank results

Pity is straightforward and generous by gacha standards. Ten cumulative searches guarantee an A-Rank or higher. Eighty guarantee an S-Rank. Hitting an S-Rank at any point resets the counter to zero. Counters on the Bangboo, Exclusive and W-Engine channels accumulate separately, so Boopon pulls never feed an Agent guarantee.

The selector rule that saves you eighty pulls

Before you search, you must pick a target S-Rank Bangboo. When an S-Rank drops, it is guaranteed to be the one you targeted — there is no fifty-fifty here. And critically, you can change that target at any time without resetting your search count.

The practical consequence: never hoard Boopons waiting for a "better" Bangboo. Pull to whatever pity you can afford and re-point the target when your roster changes. The progress follows you.

ZZZ Bangboo tier list for Version 3.2

Ranked by how much the Additional Ability gives and how often it realistically switches on. The condition column is the one every other tier list leaves out.

S Tier — the Bangboo worth building around

BangbooRankCondition to activateWhat it gives
BooressureAAt least 1 SupportEther bubbles generate an extra 60% Energy for off-field Agents
AvocabooAAt least 1 SupportHealing, plus 20% more HP recovered and 3 extra charges
KnightbooAAt least 1 SupportATK up by 20 plus Bangboo level multiplied by 1.2, for 10s
RobinSAt least 1 MockingbirdSpecialty-matched cards: 45% DMG, 27% Daze or 90% Anomaly Buildup
ArielSRemielle Dan in the squadAll Active Skill buffs guaranteed, Chain Attack DMG up 15%

Booressure, Avocaboo and Knightboo are the backbone of this list, and none costs an S-Rank pull — Booressure and Knightboo are not even in the gacha pool. Almost every serious team runs a Support Agent, so all three are close to universally live.

Robin and Ariel are the exceptions in this tier: both are narrow, and both earn the slot on sheer size. Robin's 90% Anomaly Buildup card is the biggest single-faction buff in the game, but it needs a Mockingbird Agent. Ariel is the same shape for Remielle Dan teams.

A Tier — excellent when you meet the condition

BangbooRankCondition to activateWhat it gives
BirkblickS2+ Krampus Compliance AuthorityDaze up 4% per EX Special, 3 stacks, then 10% DMG
Biggest FanS2+ Angels of Delusion50 ATK to all Agents for 30s, plus 15% Chain Anomaly Buildup
SnapS2+ Stars of LyraInstant healing for 4% of the Agent's Max HP (its Superstar DMG buff needs no faction condition)
Miss EsmeS2+ Spook Shack20% more HP and 20% more Energy from bubbles and stars
ButlerS2+ Victoria Housekeeping Co.Active Skill generates an additional 20% Energy
PaperbooAAt least 1 DefenseChain Attack shields the whole squad, up to 15% of its Max HP
ExplorebooAAt least 1 SupportRandom buff: healing and shield each improved 20%, or Energy regen up 0.04 per second
Plugboo, Rocketboo, Sharkboo, Resonaboo, BangvolverS2+ of the matching AttributeChain Attack inflicts 100% more Anomaly Buildup

The Attribute specialists deserve a note. Four of the five have a cheaper A-Rank counterpart doing the same job at 60% instead of 100%: Electroboo for Plugboo (Electric), Cryboo for Rocketboo (Fire), Penguinboo for Sharkboo (Ice), and Devilboo for Resonaboo (Ether, at 40% but with extended coordination). Physical is the gap — no A-Rank copies Bangvolver's Chain Attack effect. If you already own the A-Rank version, the S-Rank upgrade is real but incremental, and not where your first eighty Boopons should go.

B Tier — narrow faction locks and single-role bonuses

Most of the remaining S-Ranks live here, not because they are weak but because their requirement is narrow. Eight are faction-locked: Amillion (Cunning Hares), Safety (Belobog Heavy Industries), Officer Cui (Criminal Investigation Special Response Team), Agent Gulliver (Hollow Special Operations Section 6), Red Moccus (Sons of Calydon), Belion (Yunkui Summit), Ultra Jake (Roscaelifer) and Mercury (Defense Force). Sprout is narrower still — it keys off one named Agent, Ye Shunguang. Each is A Tier or better inside its own team and close to dead weight outside it.

Alongside them sit the broadly-triggered A-Ranks: Bagboo (Attack, 30% Chain DMG), Excaliboo (Rupture, guaranteed sword draw at 30%), Sumoboo (Stun, 18% more Daze above 50%), Magnetiboo (Anomaly, 30% DMG and increased Active Skill range), Baddieboo (Anomaly, 20% Chain DMG), Bild N. Boolok (Support, Block Spikes and 30% Active Skill DMG), and Overtimeboo, Brawlerboo and Booltergeist, which each trigger on one Attack or Anomaly Agent. Boollseye (30% Chain DMG) keys off an Attack Type rather than a Specialty — it needs a Pierce character. Luckyboo is narrower still, at 2+ Physical Agents. All are perfectly usable; they simply give less than the S Tier picks.

C Tier — damage-only

Any Bangboo you run purely for its own damage output belongs here, regardless of rarity. A Bangboo's personal damage is a rounding error next to what an Energy, Daze or sustain bonus does for your Agents.

The eight Bangboo you cannot pull

Of the 20 A-Ranks, only 12 are in the gacha pool. The other eight come from Hollow Zero, limited events and shops: Bild N. Boolok, Booltergeist, Booressure, Brawlerboo, Excaliboo, Knightboo, Luckyboo and Overtimeboo. Booressure and Brawlerboo are Hollow Zero rewards — Booressure drops once every 10 Investigation License Levels — while Knightboo and Overtimeboo came from events and have since been added to the Logistics Shop.

Two of those are S Tier on this list. Booressure and Knightboo — arguably the two best generic Support Bangboo in the game — cost zero Boopons. If you are new and wondering whether you need to pull to have a functional Bangboo, you do not. Check your inventory first. The Signal Shop also sells a Collaboorator Invitation Gift once a month for Bangbucks, which lets you pick any single A-Rank that is in the channel pool outright.

Best Bangboo for each team type

  • Any team with a Support Agent: Booressure for Energy, Avocaboo for sustain, Knightboo for the flat ATK buff. Pick based on what the team is short of.
  • Anomaly teams: the Attribute specialist matching your squad's element — Plugboo for Electric, Rocketboo for Fire, Sharkboo for Ice, Resonaboo for Ether, Bangvolver for Physical. Wind and Lumiflux squads have no Attribute specialist at all yet, so run a generic Support Bangboo instead.
  • Stun-focused teams: Birkblick if you run Krampus Compliance Authority, otherwise Sumoboo.
  • Teams with a Defense Agent: Paperboo, for a squad-wide shield off the Chain Attack.
  • Faction teams: your faction's own S-Rank, every time. These are built for exactly one roster and they are excellent inside it.
  • Electric teams in Version 3.2: the current banner's debut Agent is Electric, and Plugboo or Electroboo are the natural fits. For the full build, see our Claret build guide. Claret's own faction tag, Flint Workshop, has no dedicated Bangboo yet, so a generic Support pick is the fallback.

Is it worth pulling Bangboo in Version 3.2?

Yes, and the timing is unusually good. Version 3.1 added Ariel, the S-Rank Bangboo for Remielle Dan, and Version 3.2 added no new Bangboo at all. Nothing is competing for your Boopons this patch — the cleanest window in months to finish a target you have been half-pitying toward.

Duplicates do matter, though less than Agent duplicates, and several faction S-Ranks have a feature most tier lists never mention: at three copies their Additional Ability drops from needing two faction members to needing one. Mercury's own skill text spells it out — three copies and Tactical Strategy II requires a single character — and Belion, Birkblick, Biggest Fan and Miss Esme behave the same way. That turns a narrow faction lock into something closer to a generic buff, which is the strongest argument for depth over breadth on the roster. Outside those five, breadth still wins: a second Bangboo that covers a team you cannot currently field is worth more than a star on one you already run.

Boopons come from HoYoLAB web events, the Signal Shop's Bangbuck exchange (a 50% off option capped at five per month, plus an unlimited one), Hollow Zero bounty commissions and Investigation License rewards, the New Eridu City Fund, Bangboo System Optimization rewards at Lv. 20, 40 and 60, and event rewards — Version 3.2's login event alone pays up to ten. Bangbucks come only from searching the Bangboo Channel.

Where players disagree

Two honest splits worth flagging, because pages that state either side flatly are overselling their evidence.

Do Anomaly and Daze Bangboo actually contribute? One camp argues they push you over thresholds you would otherwise miss — an extra Stun window in a scored run is worth real points. The other points at post-combat reports showing Bangboo contributing a fraction of a percent of total Anomaly application. Both describe real data. Threshold effects are simply lumpy: irrelevant in most content, occasionally decisive in a scored one. If you are optimising for Deadly Assault scoring, the threshold argument carries more weight than anywhere else.

A-Rank with duplicates versus S-Rank without. For the Attribute specialists, several players report preferring a fully merged A-Rank over a single-copy S-Rank. No published damage table settles this, so treat it as a heuristic rather than a rule.

What is not confirmed

  • No Version 3.3 Bangboo has been announced. Rosters circulating for 3.3 come from test builds and leaks, not HoYoverse. This page will add a new Bangboo when it is live.
  • Exact duplicate scaling per star level is not published by HoYoverse. The three-copy faction relaxation is stated in each Bangboo's own skill text; broader star-by-star numbers are not.
  • Whether any Phase II Agent shifts Bangboo priorities. Version 3.2's second phase is widely reported to begin 30 September 2026; our Version 3.2 banner guide tracks what HoYoverse has actually confirmed. No Bangboo is scheduled alongside it either way.

For the Agent side of the roster, see our ZZZ tier list, and if you are topping up free pull currency, the Zenless Zone Zero codes page is refreshed every patch.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Bangboo in Zenless Zone Zero? For general use, Booressure — an A-Rank that adds 60% more Energy generation for off-field Agents whenever your squad has at least one Support character. Avocaboo and Knightboo are close behind on the same condition. Inside a matching faction team, Robin and Ariel post the biggest numbers on the roster.

Are S-Rank Bangboo better than A-Rank? Not reliably. Sixteen of the 21 S-Ranks only activate their Additional Ability with a specific faction or one named Agent in the squad — twelve of those need two faction members — while several A-Ranks activate on any Support, Attack or Anomaly Agent. An A-Rank that switches on beats an S-Rank that does not.

What is the pity for the Bangboo Channel? Ten cumulative Signal Searches guarantee an A-Rank or higher, and 80 guarantee an S-Rank. Receiving an S-Rank resets the counter to zero. Bangboo Channel pity is tracked separately from the Exclusive and W-Engine channels.

Can you choose which S-Rank Bangboo you get? Yes. You select a target S-Rank before searching, and any S-Rank you receive is guaranteed to be that target. You can switch the target at any time without resetting your search count.

Can you buy Boopons with Polychrome? No. Unlike Master Tape and Encrypted Master Tape, Boopon cannot be exchanged with Polychrome. It comes from HoYoLAB web events, the Signal Shop Bangbuck exchange, Hollow Zero rewards, the New Eridu City Fund, Bangboo System Optimization rewards and event login rewards.

Are Bangboo duplicates worth it? Usually less than a new Bangboo, with one real exception. Copies merge at the Turbo Remodeling Shop to raise star level, and five faction S-Ranks — Mercury, Belion, Birkblick, Biggest Fan and Miss Esme — drop from needing two faction members to one at three copies. Outside those, covering a team you cannot currently field is worth more than another star.
