Season 7: Utopia added a Field Merchant — an in-raid merchant you can trade with mid-raid — to Arena Breakout: Infinite, and it is one of the biggest changes to how you handle loot since the game deleted paid Koen. You can trade with it during a raid to dump bulky loot for backpack space, or gamble on mystery cargo; and as you build favor through trading, the merchant can hand you battlefield intel. The expensive mystery boxes can also lose you everything. Here is exactly what MoreFun has confirmed about how the Field Merchant works, when it is worth using, and how the Zombie Endless version differs.

This guide is verified against MoreFun's official "Season 7 UTOPIA Arrives with Massive Rewards!" launch post (Steam, September 15, 2026) and the "SEASON 7: UTOPIA ARRIVES SEP 16" reveal (September 8, 2026) for app 2073620. Season 7: Utopia went live after the September 16, 2026 (02:00–09:00 UTC) server downtime, replacing Season 6: White Nights. Extraction economies shift every season, so treat the specifics below as a Season 7 snapshot.

⚡ TL;DR — Arena Breakout: Infinite Field Merchant (Season 7)

- What it is: a brand-new in-raid Field Merchant you can trade with during a raid, added in Season 7: Utopia (September 16, 2026). It appears in both the main game and the zombie infected zone modes.

- What it does: sell looted supplies to save backpack space, or "try your luck" and buy mystery cargo (mystery boxes).

- Intel: as you build favor through trading, the merchant "may also provide you with highly valuable battlefield and item intel." MoreFun's advice: gather intel first before buying the expensive boxes.

- Mystery cargo risk: low-priced cargo = more stable returns; high-priced cargo = polarized — a chance to make a fortune, but "a significant risk of loss."

- Zombie Endless version: the Field Merchant is also in Zombie Endless Mode, but there you spend zombie tokens on supplies and zombie countermeasures, not Koen.

- Not yet confirmed: MoreFun has not published exact numbers — how many merchants spawn, any spawn timer, or the favor threshold for intel. Treat those as unknown until the in-client details or full patch notes land.

What is the Field Merchant in Arena Breakout: Infinite?

The Field Merchant is a new NPC vendor that spawns inside your raid, introduced with the Season 7: Utopia update. Until now, all trading in Arena Breakout: Infinite happened out of raid — you extracted your loot, then sold it to a Contact or listed it on the player Market back at base. The Field Merchant changes that: for the first time you can convert loot into value, and take gambles, without ever reaching the extraction point.

MoreFun describes it plainly in the S7 launch post:

"In Season 7, in-raid merchants will appear as a brand-new mechanic in both the main game and zombie infected zone modes. During a raid, visit the Field Merchant to sell some of the supplies you've looted to save backpack space, or try your luck and purchase mystery boxes." — Season 7 UTOPIA Arrives with Massive Rewards!, official Steam post, September 15, 2026

That single sentence contains the two core uses: sell to save space, and gamble on mystery cargo. Layered on top is a third, quieter system — the intel the merchant hands you once you have traded enough, which is what turns the Field Merchant from a convenience into an edge.

Do not confuse the Field Merchant with the out-of-raid Contacts (Joel Garrison, Vladlen, Randall Fisher and the rest) or with the player Market. Those still exist and are still where you do the bulk of your selling. The Field Merchant is a situational tool that lives and dies inside a single raid.

How the Field Merchant works

Here is what MoreFun has actually confirmed, straight from the S7 launch post:

RuleDetail (official, S7)
Where it appearsBoth the main game and the zombie infected zone modes — plus Zombie Endless Mode.
SellSell looted supplies to the merchant to save backpack space.
BuyPurchase mystery cargo / mystery boxes — a blind-buy gamble.
IntelAs you build favor through trading, the merchant "may also provide" battlefield and item intel.
Zombie Endless currencyZombie tokens (spent on supplies and zombie countermeasures), not Koen.

Note what the launch post does not pin down: it gives no number for how many merchants spawn per raid, no spawn timer, and no favor threshold for the intel unlock. Those details will surface in the in-client experience or the full patch notes — until then, treat any "one per raid" or "five-minute timer" claim you see on other sites as unverified.

The strategic shape is still clear, though. Until now, all trading in Arena Breakout: Infinite happened out of raid — you extracted, then sold to a Contact or listed on the player Market. The Field Merchant lets you convert loot into value, and take gambles, without reaching extraction. That turns it into a mid-raid decision point: you have a backpack of loot, you are weighing whether to push deeper or extract, and now there is a third option — bank some of that loot's value on the spot and free up slots for higher-tier finds.

Selling to the Field Merchant: free space, lock in value

The safest use of the Field Merchant is straightforward: sell bulky, mid-value supplies to save backpack space. In an extraction shooter, inventory space is value — every slot a cheap item occupies is a slot a red drop cannot. Selling to the in-raid merchant lets you cash out the floor of your loot and keep hunting for the ceiling, without risking that loot to a failed extraction.

It also builds your favor with the merchant toward the intel reward (see below), which means even "boring" sales are doing double duty.

Buying mystery cargo: the risk ladder

The gamble side is mystery cargo (the mystery boxes). MoreFun split it into two clear risk tiers, and the wording matters:

  • Low-priced mystery cargo"offers more stable overall returns." This is the grind-it-out option: buy several, expect a modest but reliable profit across them.
  • High-priced mystery cargo"much more polarized results, with a chance to make a fortune but also a significant risk of loss." This is the jackpot lever, and it can wipe your spend.

MoreFun's own guidance is explicit about how to de-risk the expensive boxes:

"If you plan to buy high-priced mystery cargo, we recommend gathering key intel in advance to improve your chances of turning a profit." — Season 7 UTOPIA Arrives with Massive Rewards!, September 15, 2026

In other words, the intel system and the mystery-cargo system are designed to be played together: build favor to earn intel, use the intel to read the raid, then decide whether the high-priced gamble is worth it.

How to unlock Field Merchant intel

This is the part most day-one guides miss. The merchant is not just a vending machine — building favor through trading unlocks information:

"As you build favor through trading, the merchant may also provide you with highly valuable battlefield and item intel, helping you uncover greater wealth and rewards." — official S7 launch post

The mechanism MoreFun confirms is favor through trading: the more you trade with the merchant, the more likely it is to reward you with intel. The launch post does not publish a favor number or a fixed threshold, so treat the exact requirement as unconfirmed until it appears in-client — but the direction is clear: trading more is what earns the intel.

The practical loop that falls out of this:

  • Loot normally during the raid.
  • Find the merchant and sell your surplus — this frees backpack space and builds favor toward the intel reward.
  • Earn intel as your trading favor grows.
  • Use the intel to locate high-value loot or judge whether a high-priced mystery box is worth the gamble.
  • Then, and only then, consider the expensive cargo.

The Field Merchant in Zombie Endless Mode: zombie tokens, not Koen

Season 7's other headline is Zombie Mode, split into the Infected Zone (PvPvE, with mutants spread across Farm, Valley and Airport) and Zombie Endless Mode (a zombie-based PvE survival experience). The Field Merchant appears in both zombie contexts, but the Endless-mode version runs on a different currency:

"The Field Merchant can also be found in Zombie Endless Mode. Spend zombie tokens to purchase supplies and zombie countermeasures, providing more ways to handle prolonged combat." — official S7 launch post

In Zombie Endless Mode a squad of 1–4 players picks a class, gets an initial loadout, and survives an escalating threat level. Here the Field Merchant is a survival lifeline rather than a loot-flipping tool: you spend zombie tokens earned in the run on supplies and zombie countermeasures to stretch a long fight. That reframes the merchant from an economy gamble (main mode) into a resupply station (Endless mode) — same NPC, different job.

In the Infected Zone (the PvPvE side), the merchant behaves like the main-game version, because Infected Zone raids still use your real gear and Koen-value loot.

Is the Field Merchant worth using? Quick verdict by playstyle

  • Loot-focused / PvE-leaning players: Yes, heavily. Sell surplus to free space, build favor for the intel reward, skip the high-priced gambles unless intel says go. It is close to free value.
  • Aggressive PvP players: Situationally. Trading mid-raid means slowing down and committing to a location, so early fights come first. Treat the merchant as a mid-raid pit stop, not a plan.
  • Zombie Endless players: Yes — but as a resupply point. Spend zombie tokens on countermeasures to survive deeper waves, not on speculation.
  • Gamblers: the high-priced mystery cargo is the only "fortune" button, and MoreFun openly warns of "a significant risk of loss." Gather intel first; never bet loot you cannot afford to leave behind.

How the Field Merchant fits Season 7's bigger economy changes

The Field Merchant did not ship alone. Season 7: Utopia also overhauled several systems that touch how you make and keep value, and they interact with the merchant:

  • Supplies Drops 2.0 — increases the number of in-raid containers and their loot yields and optimizes respawn pacing; there is also a new terminal mechanic where normal terminals steadily accumulate XP while covert terminals must be held and defended against other squads.
  • Deeper Workbench progression + a Miscellaneous Crafter — Season 7 adds deeper progression systems for masteries and the Workbench, plus a new purple-quality Miscellaneous Crafter. Once unlocked it can be used an unlimited number of times, giving you more ways to use the miscellaneous items you find in raids.
  • Chaotic Matter goes global — the red drop previously exclusive to Distorted Valley is now a drop on all maps during S7, and a new ultra-rare red drop, "Elysium" (equal in value to Utopia), has been added to the Infected Area.

Note two important removals: Hostile Sector and Distorted Valley are not available in Season 7. If you had leftover Hostile Sector: Solo Infiltration tickets, MoreFun states you can sell them to a Contact. The four Hostile Sector special-forces classes (breacher, sniper, grenadier, fumigator) were folded into regular Tactical Ops maps at a lower threat level instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the Field Merchant appear? The Field Merchant is available in both the main game and the zombie infected zone modes, and it can also be found in Zombie Endless Mode. MoreFun has not yet published how many merchants spawn per raid or any spawn timer, so treat "one per raid" or fixed-timer claims elsewhere as unverified until the in-client details land.

What is mystery cargo in Arena Breakout: Infinite? Mystery cargo (mystery boxes) is loot you buy blind from the Field Merchant. Low-priced mystery cargo gives more stable, modest returns; high-priced mystery cargo is polarized — a chance to make a fortune but, in MoreFun's words, "a significant risk of loss." The developer recommends gathering intel before buying the expensive boxes.

How do you unlock Field Merchant intel? By building favor through trading. MoreFun says that as you build favor with the merchant, it "may also provide you with highly valuable battlefield and item intel." The exact favor threshold has not been published, so the practical answer is simply to trade with the merchant as much as you can during the raid; even routine sales of surplus loot build favor.

Can you buy Koen from the Field Merchant? No. You cannot buy Koen with real money anywhere in Arena Breakout: Infinite — MoreFun removed the paid-Koen system at the 1.0 launch in September 2025. The Field Merchant lets you sell loot for value and buy mystery cargo; in the main game it deals in in-raid supplies and Koen-value loot, not a top-up.

What currency does the Field Merchant use in Zombie Endless Mode? In Zombie Endless Mode the Field Merchant runs on zombie tokens you earn during the run, which you spend on supplies and zombie countermeasures to survive longer. In the main game and the Zombie Infected Zone it works with normal in-raid loot and value instead.

Is the Field Merchant in every Arena Breakout: Infinite mode? It appears in the main Tactical Ops game and in both zombie modes — the PvPvE Infected Zone and the PvE Zombie Endless Mode. The removed Hostile Sector and Distorted Valley modes are not in Season 7 at all.

The bottom line

The Field Merchant is the most player-friendly economy addition Arena Breakout: Infinite has made in a while: it turns dead backpack space into value, rewards you with intel just for trading, and hands aggressive players a high-risk fortune button in the mystery cargo. Play it patiently — sell surplus, farm the intel unlock, gather information before you gamble — and it is close to free profit every raid. Play it greedily on high-priced boxes without intel, and it will happily take your Koen. For more Season 7 breakdowns, see our other Arena Breakout: Infinite guides.
