Diablo 4 Spirit Runeword Season 15: How to Craft +5 All Skills

Diablo 4 Spirit Runeword Season 15 — Craft +5 All Skills

TL;DR: How do you craft the Spirit Runeword in Diablo 4 Season 15?

Combine 1 Tal + 1 Thul + 1 Ort + 1 Amn with a compatible Common white base in the Horadric Cube. Spirit's weapon, Focus, and Totem versions list +5 to All Skills, 25–35% Attack Speed, and 50%[x] increased damage; the Shield version substitutes Maximum Life for that damage affix. The listed minimum level is 25, but check the finished item's requirement before planning a leveling loadout. Spirit recipe and variants, level requirement.

White gear deserves a second look in Season 15. A compatible base and four runes can give you a useful package of skill ranks, attack speed, and resource capacity without committing to a narrow damage type. That's an attractive starting point while your build is still coming together.

This guide covers the recipe, weapon-versus-shield stats, ingredient upgrades, and the decision that matters: whether Spirit improves your leveling setup enough to justify making it. It covers Season of Hell's Legacy, with sources checked on October 12, 2026.

How do you craft Spirit in Season 15?

The complete recipe contains five ingredients: one equipment base and four individual runes. Having the rune combination alone isn't enough.

Choose a compatible Common white base

Spirit supports these 10 base categories:

  • One-handed weapons: Axe, Dagger, Flail, Mace, Scythe, Sword, and Wand.
  • Off-hands: Focus, Totem, and Shield.

The base must be Common, shown with white rarity. A yellow Rare sword or orange Legendary sword won't work directly, even if its weapon type is correct. Ancestral status doesn't replace this requirement: an Ancestral Legendary is still the wrong rarity. Base requirements and variants.

Choose the slot before collecting the base. A Druid can use the Totem version; a Necromancer or Paladin can use the Shield version. Focus variants support Sorcerer, Necromancer, and Warlock. The published compatibility list gives Spiritborn no usable Spirit base, so don't prepare this craft for a quarterstaff build. Class compatibility.

Put the base and loose runes into the Cube

Once you have access to the Horadric Cube:

  • Set aside one each of Tal, Thul, Ort, and Amn.
  • Add your compatible white equipment base to the Cube.
  • Add all four runes as crafting ingredients.
  • Check the combination, then select Transmute.
  • Inspect the resulting Spirit's equipment slot, level requirement, and rolls before changing your loadout.

This is a hidden recipe. The Cube can show ??? rather than a named recipe before transmutation; that label alone doesn't mean you have made a mistake. Cube crafting instructions.

You don't need a four-socket sword. The runes go into the Cube alongside the base. Players asking why socketed yellow gear won't craft receive the same practical answer: use a white item, and sockets aren't required. Player crafting questions.

Decide between a leveling base and an Ancestral base

An Ancestral Common base produces an Ancestral Runeword. That makes base selection relevant before you spend the runes. Ancestral crafting rule.

For an early leveling character, prioritize a result you can actually equip. Spirit's listed minimum is 25, but the base can impose an additional level requirement. Don't assume an endgame base will become usable at 25 simply because a recipe database displays that minimum. For a character already wearing endgame equipment, compare Item Power and the complete loadout instead. Spirit level and base notes.

What are Spirit's stats, and how does the Shield differ?

The following table reproduces the published reference ranges. It separates the Shield because copying the weapon tooltip onto every variant gives the wrong answer.

StatWeapons, Focus, and TotemShield
All Skills+5+5
Attack Speed+25–35%+25–35%
Multiplicative damage affix+50%[x]Replaced by Maximum Life
Maximum Resource+20–56+20–56
Impairment Reduction50%50%
Maximum Life affix replacing damageNot listed+1,831–2,200

Source: Helltides' Spirit item data. These are reference values, not guaranteed rolls for every leveling craft. The detailed Sword reference is shown at 900 Item Power before upgrades; weapon damage and inherent equipment properties depend on the base.

Read the resource and damage bonuses correctly

Maximum Resource is a flat amount. A listed +56 adds capacity; it isn't +56% and it doesn't state a resource-regeneration bonus. A larger pool helps your opening burst, but it won't fix a rotation that spends resources faster than it restores them.

The 50%[x] damage affix represents a 1.5× multiplier. Your actual improvement after equipping Spirit also depends on the weapon damage and effects you give up. That distinction matters when comparing a fresh craft with a well-developed Legendary.

The Shield keeps the skill ranks, attack speed, resource capacity, and Impairment Reduction while adding life in place of the listed damage multiplier. Choose it for the complete defensive setup. Don't buy or craft one expecting the weapon variant's damage line.

Where can you get Tal, Thul, Ort, and Amn?

The Countess in the Forgotten Tower is a documented source of the legacy runes used for these crafts. Treat her as an ingredient target rather than expecting a completed Spirit to be the reward. Countess and rune farming.

Waking Nightmares and Kurast Undercity are other documented rune sources. For targeted Undercity rewards, inspect a Greater Tribute of Harmony, including its Greater Runes reward upgrade, before committing it. Neither route establishes a guaranteed Tal, Thul, Ort, or Amn on your next run. Rune farming reference.

Blizzard's Season 15 notes state: “Fixed an issue where Undercity Rune Tributes could award no Runes when certain Bargains were selected.” That confirms a reward bug was addressed; it doesn't establish a specific rune's drop percentage. Official Season 15 patch notes.

Upgrade duplicates to fill the missing ingredient

These fixed Cube conversions cover Spirit's lower-rune chain:

Put into the Horadric CubeReceive
3 Tal1 Ral
3 Ral1 Ort
3 Ort1 Thul
3 Thul + 1 Chipped Topaz1 Amn

Recipes: Season 15 hidden rune upgrades.

Reserve the runes for Spirit before upgrading anything. Converting your last three Thul into Amn still leaves you missing the Thul needed for the final craft.

Here's a useful inventory calculation: if you already have Tal but none of the other ingredients, 13 Ort plus 1 Chipped Topaz can supply the remaining runes. Keep one Ort, turn the other twelve into four Thul, keep one Thul, and convert the remaining three into Amn. That's recipe arithmetic, not an estimate of farming time.

Compare this cost with what you're missing before starting another farming session. Sometimes the final ingredient is already sitting in your stash as duplicates.

Is Spirit worth crafting for leveling?

Yes, when its broad bonuses improve the gear you currently have and the ingredients are within reach. Spirit has no listed direct XP bonus. Its leveling value comes from combat performance: killing packs cleanly, maintaining your rotation, and spending less time recovering from a weak setup.

On your first character, avoid turning an upgrade into a detour

Make Spirit when you have most of the recipe and a suitable base. Chasing a perfect roll while ordinary upgrades still clear your current difficulty comfortably can cost more leveling time than the craft saves.

Pay attention to your actual bottleneck. If your damage feels weak across several equipped skills, the skill-rank package is worth testing. If you keep running dry, examine resource recovery alongside the larger pool. More attack speed can make a spending problem more noticeable if you're simply casting faster.

For an alt, check the intended base and finished level requirement early. Having all four runes ready is useful; discovering that the resulting item is too high-level to equip defeats the purpose of preparing leveling gear.

Test the whole setup before increasing difficulty

Keep your old equipment until you've tried Spirit. Run the same activity at the same difficulty with comparable buffs, and watch pack kills, elite fights, resource downtime, and deaths.

The swap should feel better during normal play. A larger character-sheet number is less useful if removing your previous item breaks the skill interaction that kept the build moving. Check what occupied the replaced slot, especially if it supplied a critical damage effect or resource solution.

Evaluate short fights and sustained fights separately. Spirit might make ordinary packs disappear sooner while leaving you empty halfway through an elite encounter. That calls for another look at resource recovery, not an immediate difficulty increase. Likewise, a Shield setup that kills slightly slower can still produce a better run if it prevents repeated deaths. Keep track of the time spent fighting and recovering together. There's no useful universal replacement level here: the next item earns its place by improving the build you're actually playing.

Only raise difficulty after the new setup clears reliably. Once you're choosing repeatable endgame activities, the Season 15 Paragon leveling guide covers the broader progression decision.

Compare Spirit with Call to Arms before spending more runes

Spirit's +5 All Skills line has no Shout condition. Call to Arms has a separate special power that activates while a Shout affects you, so its value depends on the surrounding setup. Compare its entire tooltip rather than assuming the two items provide identical bonuses. Runeword effects.

If you're considering that alternative, use the Call to Arms crafting guide. For the wider recipe list, see all Season 15 Runewords.

What mistakes waste Spirit crafting materials?

Making a second Spirit for another slot

Plan around one equipped Spirit. In a Season 15 discussion, a player crafted a Sword to accompany an existing Spirit Shield and reported that the game wouldn't let them equip both. Changing the base didn't avoid the same-name restriction. This is a documented player test, rather than a published Blizzard tooltip rule. Spirit dual-equip report.

Choose your preferred slot first. A second craft can be a replacement candidate, but don't spend the runes expecting both copies to contribute at once.

Confusing an upgraded showcase with a fresh craft

Compare like with like. A community Spirit showcase describes Greater Affixes, tempering, and transfiguration; its larger numbers don't establish the baseline output of your next recipe. Use the reference table above to identify the starting affixes, then inspect your actual result. Player's upgraded Spirit example.

For leveling, a usable upgrade now is usually a better target than reproducing someone else's exceptional endgame roll. Save the expensive optimization decision until you know which slot Spirit will occupy in your finished build.

FAQ

Do I need a four-socket weapon to make Spirit? No. Put a compatible Common white base and Tal, Thul, Ort, and Amn into the Horadric Cube as ingredients. The craft doesn't require four equipment sockets.

Why won't the Cube craft Spirit with my yellow weapon? Spirit requires a Common white base. A Rare yellow weapon is the wrong rarity, even with the correct runes. Also check that you selected a supported one-handed weapon or off-hand type.

What level do I need to equip Spirit? The listed minimum is 25, but the base can impose a higher requirement. Check the finished tooltip before treating a craft as leveling gear; an Ancestral result isn't automatically usable at the recipe's minimum level.

Can I equip a Spirit Sword and Spirit Shield together? Current player testing reports that you cannot equip both simultaneously. Choose one Spirit slot and use different equipment in the other; making a second base variant doesn't solve that restriction.

Does Spirit's Shield give the 50% damage multiplier? The published Shield entry replaces that affix with Maximum Life. It retains the listed +5 All Skills, Attack Speed, Maximum Resource, and Impairment Reduction bonuses.

Is Spirit automatically better than my leveling Legendary? No. Compare the full loadout, including the effect you're removing and your resource sustain. Keep Spirit if it makes real clears faster or more reliable; replace it when another item supports your build better.
