Quick answer: EA Play Pro costs $16.99 a month or $119.99 a year, and its FC 27 tier — the EA Play Pro Edition — includes up to 7 days of early access, the Season 1 Premium Pass, 6,000 FC Points, an 85+ OVR International ICON and an extra Player Evolution slot. That is more FC 27 content than a $99.99 Ultimate Edition pre-ordered today, because the ICON dropped off the Ultimate list after 31 August. The catches are real: EA Play Pro is PC and EA app only (no Steam, no Epic, no console), you must keep paying for roughly three months (about $50.97) to bank all 6,000 points, and you never own the game. Early access download opens 17 September 2026 at 23:00 UTC on PC; global release is 25 September 2026.
Every FC launch reruns the same argument, and it is back on r/EASportsFC this week: is EA Play Pro a loophole into EA SPORTS FC 27 early access, or a subscription trap? The question is sharper this year, because EA's pre-order chart quietly changed on 1 September — and the EA Play Pro Edition did not change with it. Here is what EA has actually published, what the subscription costs against the box price, and who should take which route before pre-orders close on 24 September 2026. If you are weighing the box editions against each other instead, start with the FC 27 Ultimate Edition coin math breakdown.

What is the FC 27 EA Play Pro Edition?
EA Play Pro is the premium PC tier of EA's subscription. Unlike the basic EA Play tier — which gives you a limited trial and a discount — Pro grants full access to select new EA games at release, in their premium edition. For FC 27, EA has given that package its own name and its own legal section on the FC 27 disclaimer page: the EA Play Pro Edition.
EA lists the FC 27 content verbatim as:
"Up to 7 day early access, Season 1 Premium Pass, 6,000 FC Points, one (1) 85+ OVR International ICON, one (1) additional Player Evolution slot, Pre-Order Challenges, Dynamic OVR Pre-Season Boost, three (3) ICONs/Heroes for Career, one (1) 5-star Coach available for hire in Manager Career, one (1) 5-star Youth Scout available for hire in Manager Career, five (5) additional Manager Live Challenge Creation slots, one (1) 5-star Senior Scout for Manager Career, The Grounds Signature Sweatsuit, Tier 3 Amp Inspired by Mbappé, and two (2) Double AXP for 10 Matches Consumables"
— EA SPORTS FC 27 game offers and disclaimers, ea.com
There is an FC 26 component too: one untradeable 93+ OVR Ultimate Team Player Item and the Player Dribbling Evo, redeemable in FC 26 on the same platform and EA Account. That is the entire Ultimate Edition feature set, delivered by subscription — which is why this week's thread titles read like people think they have found a bug. They have not; it is how EA has structured Pro since FIFA 22.
When does FC 27 EA Play Pro early access actually start?
This is the most-asked question in the pre-launch threads, and the answer is a timezone problem, not a policy problem. EA publishes the exact download moment in the Ultimate Edition pre-order terms: the product becomes available to download once the "7 day early access period begins on September 17, 2026 23:00 UTC (PC) and September 18, 2026 at 12:00 am consumer local time (all other platforms)."
EA Play Pro exists only on PC, so Pro subscribers sit on the PC clock — 17 September 2026, 23:00 UTC. One important caveat: EA's EA Play Pro Edition section itself only says content is "available from September 18, 2026" and does not restate the 23:00 UTC instant, so treat the PC timing as strongly implied rather than separately confirmed for Pro.
Here is what 17 September 23:00 UTC converts to:
| Region | Local unlock |
|---|---|
| United Kingdom (BST) | 18 September, 00:00 |
| Central Europe (CEST) | 18 September, 01:00 |
| Moscow (MSK) | 18 September, 02:00 |
| India (IST) | 18 September, 04:30 |
| Sydney (AEST) | 18 September, 09:00 |
| US Eastern (EDT) | 17 September, 19:00 |
| US Pacific (PDT) | 17 September, 16:00 |
If your EA app shows "18 September" and a forum post said the 17th, both are right — the UK sees the unlock land just after midnight on the 18th, while the Americas genuinely start on the 17th.
Two follow-ups, because both were asked this week:
- You do not download a separate trial build. EA's terms describe downloading the Product itself. Pro Edition access is the full game, not the 10-hour EA Play trial.
- There is no preload window before early access. EA's wording ties download availability to the moment the early access period begins, and EA has published no separate preload date. Our FC 27 unlock times guide covers every platform's clock in detail.
Is EA Play Pro cheaper than buying FC 27?
EA's own pricing page is blunt: "EA Play is just $5.99 a month or $39.99 for a full year. EA Play Pro is $16.99 a month or $119.99 for a full year."
The catch is buried in the FC 27 disclaimer, and it sets your real minimum spend: "Active EA Play Pro subscription required for entire duration of the 6,000 Points distribution period."
That distribution period is defined too. FC Points arrive in three equal increments of 2,000: the first on your initial Ultimate Team login, then the second and third "by the 15th day of the following two months." Starting on 18 September, that means drops on or before 15 October and 15 November 2026. Cancel in October and you forfeit the rest.
So the floor for a Pro run that banks all 6,000 points is three months:
| EA Play Pro duration | Total cost | Against Standard ($69.99) | Against Ultimate ($99.99) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 month | $16.99 | $53.00 cheaper | $83.00 cheaper |
| 2 months | $33.98 | $36.01 cheaper | $66.01 cheaper |
| 3 months (all 6,000 FC Points) | $50.97 | $19.02 cheaper | $49.02 cheaper |
| 4 months | $67.96 | $2.03 cheaper | $32.03 cheaper |
| 5 months | $84.95 | $14.96 more | $15.04 cheaper |
| 6 months | $101.94 | $31.95 more | $1.95 more |
| 12 months (annual, $119.99) | $119.99 | $50.00 more | $20.00 more |
The crossover is month six. Play FC 27 for a single season push and Pro is dramatically cheaper. Play it until the next title and Ultimate wins — and you keep the game afterwards, which a lapsed subscription does not.
Another frame: on FC 26's store ladder the best rate was roughly $0.0083 per FC Point, putting 6,000 points at about $50 of store value. Three months of Pro costs $50.97 — so at the minimum viable length you pay roughly the store price of the points and get the game, the early access, the Premium Pass, the 85+ ICON and the Career extras thrown in. EA has not published FC 27 point pricing yet; that ladder is the FC 26 benchmark tracked by the community, not an EA figure.
What does the Ultimate Edition still do better?
This is where the chart change matters. EA's official four-column pre-order comparison splits Ultimate into two windows, and the 85+ OVR International ICON Pack row is ticked for the early-bird Ultimate (closed 31 August 2026) and for Ultimate Plus — but blank for an Ultimate pre-order placed between 1 and 24 September. The disclaimer agrees: that offer's FC 27 content runs "Up to 7 day early access to the Product, Season 1 Premium Pass, Pre-Order Challenges, Dynamic OVR Pre-Season Boost" — no ICON. The EA Play Pro Edition list, checked live on 10 September 2026, still includes it.
| FC 27 benefit | EA Play Pro Edition | Ultimate pre-ordered 1–24 Sept |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 7 days early access | Yes | Yes |
| Season 1 Premium Pass | Yes | Yes |
| 6,000 FC Points across 3 drops | Yes (sub must stay active) | Yes |
| 85+ OVR International ICON | Yes | No |
| Extra Player Evolution slot | Yes | Yes |
| Career and The Grounds bonus content | Yes | Yes |
| FC 26 93+ OVR Player Item and Dribbling Evo | Yes | Yes |
| Console support | No | Yes |
| Steam or Epic support | No | Steam and Epic yes |
| You keep the game if you stop paying | No | Yes |
Verify the item list at checkout before you commit — EA has adjusted these lists mid-window before, and the disclaimer page is the version that governs.
The Ultimate advantages no subscription replaces: console access, ownership, and Steam or Epic libraries. EA's help documentation is explicit — "Available on PC for use on the EA app only. EA Play Pro isn't available on Steam or Epic." If you play FC on PlayStation or Xbox, this route is closed to you and the Ultimate pre-order is your only early-access path, up to its 24 September 2026, 23:00 UTC PC deadline (25 September, 12:00 am local elsewhere).
Ultimate Plus, shown above, outranked both routes with 10,000 FC Points and Premium Passes for Seasons 1–5 — but its window closed on 31 August 2026 and it is no longer purchasable.

Does EA Play Pro stack with an Ultimate pre-order for a double ICON?
The most-upvoted question in this week's threads is whether holding both an Ultimate pre-order and an EA Play Pro subscription grants both FC 26 ICON items. One reply asserts it has worked every year since FIFA 22; another says it is "confirmed" broken this year. Neither posted a source. What EA has actually published is the only part worth acting on:
- Both grants are governed by the same restriction: content is "limited to one EA Account, is non-transferable."
- The two FC 26 grants are now the same item. The EA Play Pro Edition FC 26 content and the September Ultimate pre-order FC 26 content are both described as "one (1) untradeable Ultimate Team 93+ OVR Player Item, Player Dribbling Evo." Only the early-bird Ultimate window carried the "1 of 4 Player Pick" version, and that window closed.
- EA has published nothing describing how a duplicate entitlement on one account resolves.
The practical read: buy the route you want on its own merits. Do not pay $99.99 on top of a subscription betting on an undocumented stack — that is real money against an unsourced forum claim. As one commenter put it, paying twenty euros a month on top of a hundred-euro game is not "free."
What does EA Play Pro not get you?
Straight from EA's FC 27 disclaimer page:
- Region blocks. "EA Play Pro Edition & FC Points purchase are not available in Belgium and South Korea."
- EA app required. "Installation of the EA app … required to play." No Steam, no Epic, no console.
- Japan point expiry. Unspent FC Points expire and are removed 180 days after purchase.
- A hard back-stop. Take the first points distribution by 1 August 2027 to receive all 6,000; redeem after 26 September 2027 and you get none.
- Club Membership does not count trials. That reward needs an FC 26 and an FC 27 login before 1 November 2026 at 12:00 am Pacific, and EA "excludes login via EA SPORTS FC Companion or any trials (including EA Play Trial)." The Pro Edition is not described as a trial, but the basic EA Play 10-hour trial will not tick this box.
- No day-one points war chest. Only 2,000 of the 6,000 land at launch — see our Premium Pass coins vs FC Points breakdown for what that first drop realistically buys.
Remember too that points never convert to coins. In FC 26 the Premium Pass was dual-priced at 1,000 FC Points or 500,000 coins, an implied rate of roughly 500 coins per point tracked by the community — useful for judging purchasing power, not an exchange you can perform. If you want a squad on day one rather than passes, coins are what you need, and the launch-week coin methods guide is the better read.
Which route should you take?
Ranked, for the 1–24 September decision window:
- PC player, one-season commitment, wants early access — EA Play Pro. Three months at $50.97 gets everything a September Ultimate pre-order gets plus the 85+ ICON, for half the money. Best value on the FC 27 pricing table right now.
- PC player who plays FC all year — Ultimate Edition, $99.99. You cross the Pro annual cost at month six and you keep the game. Buy before 24 September, 23:00 UTC.
- Console player who wants early access — Ultimate Edition. No alternative exists; Pro is not on PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo platforms.
- Casual player — Standard, $69.99, at launch. You lose early access and the Premium Pass, but you are not paying $30 for content you will not use.
- Still undecided on 24 September — do nothing. Ultimate stays on sale as a regular purchase from 25 September; only the pre-order bonuses expire, and Pro can start any month.
Whichever route you take, the launch checklist is the same: get onto the Web App as early as your account allows, clear the free Evolutions, and start trading before the market floods. Our FC 27 early access day-one checklist and the Web App day-one checklist cover the first 48 hours, and the FC 26 carryover rewards guide explains why your new club will look emptier than you expect on 18 September.
Getting a head start on FC 27 without burning a month of grinding? These are the services we run at timesaver.gg for the launch window:
- EA FC 27 Coins — Comfort Trade with paced delivery, so your first squad is not bronze-tier while everyone else is testing meta cards.
- EA FC 27 Evolutions Boost — Pathways cleared for you, including the extra Evolution slot that Pro and Ultimate both unlock.
- EA FC 27 FUT Champions Boost — pro players running your Season 1 qualification while the ranks are still soft.
- All EA FC 27 services — the full FC 27 catalogue in one place.
A note on that first one: EA's User Agreement prohibits buying, selling or transferring coins for real money, and enforcement can include coin removal, a transfer-market ban or an account ban. We use Comfort Trade with paced delivery and no bots, cheats or injectors, which minimises exposure — it does not eliminate the residual risk, and anyone telling you it does is selling you something.
FAQ
Is EA Play Pro the cheapest way to play FC 27 early? On PC, yes. One month at $16.99 gets you up to 7 days of early access from 17 September 23:00 UTC, versus $99.99 for the Ultimate Edition. It is not the cheapest way to own FC 27 — you own nothing when the subscription lapses.
Does EA Play Pro work on PlayStation, Xbox or Steam? No. EA's help documentation states EA Play Pro is "Available on PC for use on the EA app only. EA Play Pro isn't available on Steam or Epic." Console players cannot subscribe to Pro at all, and their only early-access route is the Ultimate Edition pre-order.
Do I get all 6,000 FC Points immediately? No. EA distributes them "in 3 equal increments" — 2,000 at your first Ultimate Team login, then 2,000 by the 15th of each of the next two months. You must keep the subscription active for the whole distribution period, which is roughly three months of payments.
Does the basic $5.99 EA Play tier get me FC 27 early access? No. Basic EA Play carries a limited trial of "up to 10 hours" on select new games plus 10% off EA digital purchases, and EA has not published an FC 27 trial start date — treat any specific date you see for the 10-hour trial as unconfirmed. Only EA Play Pro carries the full EA Play Pro Edition.
Why does my EA app say 18 September when others say the 17th? Timezones. The PC early access window opens at 17 September 2026, 23:00 UTC — 18 September 00:00 in the UK and 01:00 in Central Europe, but still the evening of the 17th across the Americas. Both describe the same instant.
Can I stack EA Play Pro with an Ultimate pre-order for two ICONs? EA has published nothing that says you can, and both entitlements are "limited to one EA Account." The FC 26 items granted by the two routes are now identical, so there is no documented benefit to holding both. Do not spend $99.99 on that assumption.
When is FC 27 fully released? Global release is 25 September 2026, with the PC unlock at 24 September 2026, 23:00 UTC. Early access for Ultimate, Ultimate Plus and EA Play Pro Edition holders runs for up to 7 days before that.
