EA SPORTS FC 27 launches globally on 25 September 2026, and the pre-order window closes on 24 September. If you are still deciding between Standard and Ultimate, the maths changed on 31 August: the early-bird window closed, Ultimate Plus went off sale, and the Ultimate Edition you can buy today is quietly missing two items that early-bird buyers got. This guide breaks down exactly what is left, what it is worth in coins, and who should actually pay the extra $30.
Quick answer (TLDR): As of early September, the only editions still on sale are Standard ($69.99) and Ultimate ($99.99). Ultimate Plus ($149.99) was early-bird only and its window closed on 31 August. The $30 Ultimate premium still buys up to 6,000 FC Points — roughly $50 of points at EA's own store rates, and enough for six Premium Passes at FC 26's 1,000-point price. That is the strongest part of the deal. Buying Ultimate now rather than before 31 August costs you the 85+ OVR International ICON for FC 27 and downgrades the FC 26 93+ ICON "1 of 4" Player Pick to a 93+ ICON without the pick. Verdict: worth it if you play FUT seriously and were going to buy points or passes anyway; not worth it for Career-only players, Switch players, or anyone whose real goal is a coin balance.

Which FC 27 Editions Can You Still Buy?
Three editions were announced on 23 July 2026, but they were never all on sale for the same length of time. EA's own wording in the FC 27 editions article is unambiguous:
"EA SPORTS FC™ 27 Ultimate Plus Edition will only be available during the early bird pre-order window from 23 July 2026 - 31 August 2026."

Prices are the US listings on the Microsoft Store and PlayStation Store; regional pricing differs and EA's own storefront returns your local currency, so treat $69.99 / $99.99 / $149.99 as the US benchmark rather than a global figure. One useful detail from the Xbox listing: EA Play members see "Save $15.00 with EA Play" on the $149.99 SKU — EA Play's standard 10% discount on EA digital purchases applies to game editions, not just points packs.
If you still see an Ultimate Plus tile on a storefront, treat it with suspicion. EA's comparison chart and the editions article both cap it at 31 August, and there is no upgrade path — EA's FAQ answers "Can I upgrade from EA SPORTS FC™ 27 Ultimate Edition to EA SPORTS FC™ 27 Ultimate Plus Edition?" with a flat "No."

What Did the 31 August Deadline Actually Cost You?
This is the part almost nobody spells out, and it is the difference between a fair deal and a slightly worse one. EA's official pre-order chart carries four columns, not three: Standard, Ultimate (available until 31 August), Ultimate (pre-order between 1 and 24 September), and Ultimate Plus (until 31 August).
Comparing the two Ultimate columns row by row, the September version loses exactly two things:
- The 85+ OVR International ICON Player Item for FC 27 — ticked for early-bird Ultimate, blank for the 1–24 September column. EA's buy page repeats the condition: "Pre-order the Ultimate Edition by 31 August to get an untradeable International ICON Player Item rated 85+."
- The FC 26 93+ OVR ICON "1 of 4" Player Pick loses its "1 of 4". EA's content list flags the 1-of-4 version as being "for Ultimate Edition pre-orders by August 31st", and the September column on the chart shows the pick without it — so you still get a 93+ ICON in FC 26, you just do not appear to choose from four. Worth flagging that EA's own prose is loose here: the article says September pre-orders "will grant a 93+ OVR ICON Player Pick for EA SPORTS FC™ 26", so check the item description on the storefront at checkout rather than trusting either wording blind.
Everything else is identical: up to 7 days early access, the Season 1 Premium Pass, 6,000 FC Points across three monthly drops, the extra FUT Player Evolution slot, the 99 Dribbling Stat Evolution in FC 26, the full Career package (Pre-order Challenges, Dynamic OVR Pre-season Boost, 3 ICONs/Heroes, 5-Star Coach, 5-Star Youth Scout, 5-Star Senior Scout, five extra Manager Live Challenge Creation slots) and The Grounds cosmetics.
That is a real but survivable loss. An untradeable 85+ ICON is a day-one novelty usually outclassed within a fortnight, and the pick downgrade only matters to people still playing FC 26. Neither is a reason to skip Ultimate if the points maths works — and the points maths is where the actual money is.
What Are 6,000 FC Points Actually Worth in Coins?
Two conversions matter here, and both come from EA's own pricing rather than a third-party estimate.
Conversion 1 — cash. In FC 26, the platform stores sell FC Points at 1,050 for $9.99, 5,900 for $49.99, 12,000 for $99.99 and 18,500 for $149.99 (PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store listings). At the best of those rates — 12,000 for $99.99 — a single point costs about $0.0083, which puts 6,000 FC Points at roughly $50. You are paying a $30 premium over Standard for it. EA has not published FC 27's points pricing yet, so treat these as the FC 26 benchmark that is expected to carry over.
Conversion 2 — coins. FC 26's Premium Pass is dual-priced in the client: 1,000 FC Points or 500,000 coins (community trackers including fifauteam and FUT.GG have logged this price every season). That gives an implied in-game exchange rate of roughly 500 coins per FC Point. Run 6,000 points through it and Ultimate's points allocation is worth about 3,000,000 coins of purchasing power — if you spend every point on Premium Passes.

The gap between rows one and two is the entire argument. A Premium Pass has a fixed, visible reward track; a 3,000-point Ultimate Pack is a coin-flip you cannot resell if it misses. One caveat on the pass maths: FC 26 ran ten seasons, so six passes does not cover a full year — Ultimate Plus buyers got Seasons 1–5 outright, which is why that edition cost $50 more. EA has not published FC 27's season count.

Is Up to 7 Days of Early Access Worth Paying For?
Early access starts 18 September 2026 for Ultimate and Ultimate Plus, up to seven days ahead of the 25 September global launch. EA's phrasing is "Get full access to EA SPORTS FC™ 27 beginning 18 September 2026" — full access, not a trial.
In FUT terms, a week of early access is worth more than it sounds:
- Market entry before the crowd. The Transfer Market opens near-empty and prices are wild. Early buyers set the meta and the price floors.
- A head start on the launch promo. Destined for Glory runs 25 September – 9 October, so early access buys a week of stockpiling before the first promo drops.
- Evolutions and objectives. A week of grinding launch Evolutions compounds — every SP and coin earned in that window is capital.
The counter-argument is equally real. Early access is unpaid overtime unless you actually play it, and if you can only get on at weekends you are paying $30 for two days of a market that will still be there on the 25th. There is also a cheaper route worth checking: EA Play's 10-hour trial starts on 18 September too, and EA Play Pro is advertised on FC 27's own buy page at €16.99/month with "Day 1 access to full, premium editions of select new games." EA has not explicitly named FC 27 on that line, so verify inclusion before you subscribe rather than assuming it.

When Do the FC Points Actually Land?
Not all at once, and this catches people out every year. EA's FAQ is explicit:
"If you purchase the Ultimate Plus Edition or Ultimate Edition, you will receive your first points grant when you first log in to EA SPORTS FC™ 27. After that, additional FC Point drops will be given on the 15th of each month."

So the Ultimate package is 6,000 FC Points delivered evenly across three monthly drops — 2,000 on first login, then the 15th of the following two months. You do not get a 6,000-point war chest on day one, which materially weakens the "buy packs at launch" fantasy.
The claim deadlines are strict, and they are printed in EA's own fine print: you must complete the steps to obtain the initial FC Points distribution by 1 August 2027 to receive all 6,000, and if you redeem after 26 September 2027 you receive nothing at all.

What Are the Platform Traps Before You Pre-Order?
Several pre-order items are platform-locked, and the storefronts do not always shout about it:

Last-gen and Switch buyers are therefore paying the same $30 premium for a materially smaller bundle. That alone flips the verdict for a lot of people.
Who Should Buy Ultimate — and Who Should Not?
Buy Ultimate if you are:
- A FUT regular who buys Premium Passes anyway. Six passes for a $30 premium is the single best value in the offer.
- Someone who will genuinely play from 18 September and wants a market and Evolution head start.

- A Career Mode or Clubs player. The Career extras are pleasant but not $30 of pleasant, and Standard still includes Pre-order Challenges, 3 ICONs/Heroes, a 5-Star Coach and a 5-Star Youth Scout.
- On PS4, Xbox One or Switch, where the platform exclusions bite.
- A casual FUT player who does not buy passes or packs. Untradeable items and points you will not spend are not value.
- Chasing a coin balance rather than points. This is the important one, and it deserves its own section.
What If What You Actually Want Is Coins?
FC Points and coins are not the same currency, and the conversion only runs one way. Points buy packs, passes, Draft entries and Evolution slots. They do not buy coins. The only way points become coins is by opening packs and selling the tradeable content — and a 3,000-point Ultimate Pack has no floor. Every year, thousands of players spend $100 on an edition, funnel the points into packs, and end up with an untradeable club and no market liquidity.

Can I still buy the FC 27 Ultimate Plus Edition? If a storefront still shows it, verify before paying — the stated sale window has closed.
What do I lose by pre-ordering Ultimate in September instead of August? Two items. The FC 27 85+ OVR International ICON Player Item is early-bird only, and the FC 26 93+ OVR ICON drops the "1 of 4" choice that EA lists as being for pre-orders by 31 August. Early access, the 6,000 FC Points, the Season 1 Premium Pass, the extra Evolution slot and the entire Career package are unchanged.
Is Ultimate worth $30 more than Standard? For a FUT player, usually yes: 6,000 FC Points alone is worth about $50 at EA's own store rates, or six Premium Passes at FC 26's 1,000-point price. For Career-only players, casual FUT players and anyone on PS4, Xbox One or Switch, Standard is the better buy.
When do I get my 6,000 FC Points? Across three monthly drops — the first when you first log in to FC 27, then on the 15th of each following month. You must claim the initial distribution by 1 August 2027 to receive all 6,000, and nothing at all is granted if you redeem after 26 September 2027.
Do FC Points convert into FUT coins? Not directly. Points buy packs, Premium Passes, Draft entries and Evolution slots. The only route from points to coins is opening packs and selling the tradeable items, which is high variance — the fixed-value use of points is the Premium Pass, priced at 1,000 points or 500,000 coins in FC 26.
Does pre-ordering give me early access on Standard Edition? No. Early access from 18 September is exclusive to Ultimate and Ultimate Plus. Standard pre-orders receive bonus content only, and Standard players start on 25 September (PC unlocks at 23:00 UTC on 24 September).
