Quick answer: On Update 44.1 (Hotfix 44.1.4.1, checked November 3, 2026), buy Nitain Extract from Nightwave's Cred Offerings: 5 Nitain for 15 Cred, with no purchase limit. Rank 1 of the current series, Amir's Shockwave, pays 150 Cred, enough for 50 Nitain. Drops exist, but the best cache rate is only 2%, so five Nitain from caches would average 250 full clears. Boosters don't help, and you can't trade it.
Nitain is one of the few resources you shouldn't farm. Our sources are DE's official drop tables (last updated October 22, 2026), the Nightwave page, and the official WARFRAME Wiki for Cred prices and blueprint costs. The sums below show how far apart the routes are.
If you're farming frame parts at the same time, our guides to Argon Crystals and Orokin Cells cover the other bottlenecks.
What is the fastest way to get Nitain Extract?
Nightwave wins by a huge margin. Here is every current source, ranked:
| Source | What you get | Odds or cost | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nightwave Cred Offerings | 5 Nitain | 15 Cred, unlimited | Use this |
| Ghoul Bounties (Cetus) | 1 Nitain | 3.57–4.72% | Only during a Ghoul Purge |
| Resource Cache, Rotation C | 1 Nitain | 0.67–2.00% | Bonus, never a plan |
| Gift from the Lotus alerts | Varies | Rare, no schedule | Check the alert list |
| Zealoid Prelate, Wolf of Saturn Six | 1 Nitain | 0.129% | Ignore |
DE's own Nightwave page undersells the drops, but its advice is right:
"Newer players should especially direct their attention to Nitain Extract (a rare crafting Resource that can't be obtained anywhere else)"
— Digital Extremes, Nightwave
The drop tables do list other sources, so "anywhere else" isn't literally true. For practical purposes it's close.
How do you buy Nitain Extract from Nightwave?
You need one thing first: the quest The Teacher. DE's FAQ says that's the only requirement for this series.
- Open Nightwave from your Orbiter's Navigation console or radio scanner.
- Complete Acts to earn Standing. Every 10,000 Standing is one rank.
- Reach a rank that pays Cred.
- Open Cred Offerings in the Nightwave menu.
- Buy Nitain from the always-available section.
The wiki's Offerings page lists Nitain under Recovered Artifacts (Always Available), so it doesn't leave in the weekly rotation. DE says only "several" store items rotate.
How many Nitain does Amir's Shockwave pay for?
Amir's Shockwave began on August 12, 2026, and the live game still runs it. The ranks that pay Cred match on DE's page and the wiki:
| Rank | Total Standing | Cred | Nitain it buys |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 10,000 | 150 | 50 |
| 5 | 50,000 | 50 | 15 (5 Cred over) |
| 11 | 110,000 | 50 | 15 (5 Cred over) |
| 16 | 160,000 | 150 | 50 |
| 21 | 210,000 | 50 | 15 (5 Cred over) |
| 24 | 240,000 | 50 | 15 (5 Cred over) |
| Total to Rank 30 | 300,000 | 500 | 165 (33 purchases) |
The total assumes you spend everything on Nitain, and it counts all your leftover Cred together. After Rank 30, each of the 150 prestige ranks pays 15 Cred. That's exactly 5 Nitain per 10,000 Standing.
The weekly ceiling is 43,500 Standing, based on the Acts in the live world state and the wiki's values:
- Daily Acts: one new Act a day at 1,000 Standing = 7,000
- Weekly Acts: five at 4,500 Standing = 22,500
- Elite Weekly Acts: two at 7,000 Standing = 14,000
At that pace, Rank 30 takes just under seven weeks, and a prestige week buys about 20 Nitain. You don't need the full ceiling. A week of Dailies alone nearly reaches Rank 1, and any Weekly Act you add gets you there.
Missed Weekly and Elite Weekly Acts go on reserve, and they come back as Recovered Acts once you have fewer than three current Acts left. The live game shows the current weekly set expiring on November 9 at 00:00 UTC. That's a Monday in UTC, although the wiki lists the reset as Sunday.

Should you spend Cred on Nitain or Catalysts?
Buy Nitain for the blueprint in front of you, then spend the rest. Prices on the wiki's Offerings page:
- 5 Nitain: 15 Cred
- 10,000 Kuva: 50 Cred
- Orokin Catalyst or Reactor (built): 75 Cred each, the same price as 25 Nitain
A beginner's first 150 Cred has a clean split: one Reactor or Catalyst for 75, and 25 Nitain with the other 75. Keep a small stock, because Nitain never expires and Cred does. DE is clear about that:
"When the current Nightwave series ends, leftover Cred for that Season can no longer be redeemed for items. You can, however, sell them for Credits from your Inventory."
— Digital Extremes, Nightwave FAQ
How long do you have? DE won't say yet. Its FAQ says it "can't confirm exactly how long a particular Nightwave Series will last until closer to the end." The live world-state feed currently shows March 8, 2027, but treat that as a technical field and not an announcement. The wiki says a countdown appears with two weeks left. Players in a recent r/Warframe thread expect a change around Warframe: Tau or early next year, which is guesswork for now.
How much Nitain Extract do you actually need?
Less than most players fear, unless you're building one of the expensive sets. The wiki's blueprint data has 74 recipes that use Nitain. These are the ones worth planning for:
| Item | Nitain to build | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Vauban Prime | 20 | 5 for each part, plus 5 for the final build |
| Ivara | 9 | Chassis 4, Systems 5 |
| Saryn Prime | 6 | Chassis 3, Systems 3 |
| Wukong | 6 | Chassis 4, Neuroptics 2 |
| Lavos | 5 | Chassis |
| Voruna | 5 | Systems |
| Titania | 3 | Chassis |
| Nidus Prime | 2 | Systems |
| Citrine Prime | 2 | Chassis |
| Omni Forma | 10 | Per blueprint |
Most Prime frames that use it need just 2, on a single part. Saryn Prime and Nidus Prime are both in Prime Resurgence right now, so building both costs 8 Nitain in total. Our next Prime guide covers what's likely to follow them.
Omni Forma is the big late-game sink on that list, so pair this with our Forma farming guide.
Where does Nitain Extract drop without Nightwave?
Three places, and only one of them is worth a thought. All of them drop a single Nitain at a time.
Which Resource Cache nodes have the best rate?
Nitain sits in Rotation C of the cache table, which means your squad must find all three caches. DE's tables list 14 permanent nodes:
| Rate | Node | Mission | Enemy level |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.00% | Stribog, Void | Sabotage | 20–25 |
| 2.00% | Dakata, Kuva Fortress | Exterminate | 28–30 |
| 2.00% | Rusalka, Sedna | Sabotage | 32–36 |
| 2.00% | Cypress, Pluto | Sabotage | 34–38 |
| 1.29% | Plato, Lua | Exterminate | 25–30 |
| 1.01% | Marduk, Void | Sabotage | 40–45 |
| 1.00% | Carpo, Jupiter | Exterminate | 17–19 |
| 1.00% | Ker and Thon, Ceres | Sabotage | 14–17 |
| 1.00% | Adrastea (Jupiter), Calypso (Saturn) | Sabotage | 18–26 |
| 0.67% | Ishtar, Gradivus, Terminus | Sabotage | 6–11 |
A 2% chance means an average of 50 full clears per Nitain. Against the 15 Cred price, five Nitain would take around 250 clears, each needing all three caches. Rows marked "Event" in DE's tables, such as Portia and Charon, only count while that event is running.
If you're already running Sabotage for something else, it's a free bonus. The Resource Cache page has the useful tips: a Loot Radar mod such as Thief's Wit or Animal Instinct helps you find them, the caches hum nearby, and one opened by any squad member rewards everyone at the end of the mission.
When is the Ghoul Purge worth it?
Ghoul Purge is a recurring Plains of Eidolon event that appears every few weeks. Konzu adds two Ghoul bounties in Cetus, one at Level 15–25 (Mastery Rank 1) and one at Level 40–50 (Mastery Rank 3). Nitain sits at 3.57% or 4.72% depending on the stage, the same at both levels, so take the easier bounty.
That's the best drop rate in the game, and it's still a poor return next to Cred. The event also wasn't active in the live world state when we checked on November 3. It ends once the Ghoul population is wiped out.
Ghoul Purge bounties have the best Nitain drop rate, but they only run during the event. Image: Digital Extremes.
Can enemies or alerts drop it?
Technically, yes. Zealoid Prelate and the Wolf of Saturn Six have a 5% resource chance and a 2.58% Nitain share, which works out to 0.129% per roll. Don't hunt them for it.
The wiki also lists rare Gift from the Lotus alerts. The four alerts live on November 3 offered Forma and Taubound event resources, with no Nitain. Sorties stopped paying Nitain back in Update 19.4.2, so older guides that recommend them are out of date.
What should you do first?
- New player: finish The Teacher, hit Rank 1 with Daily Acts, and spend your first 150 Cred on one Reactor or Catalyst plus 25 Nitain.
- Building Ivara or Vauban Prime: check the Foundry count, then buy the shortfall in one go.
- Mid-game player: claim your Cred before the series ends and keep about 30 Nitain in reserve.
- Leveling several things at once: our Mastery Rank guide lines up well with Nightwave's weekly Acts.

FAQ
How do I get Nitain Extract in Warframe without Nightwave? Your realistic options are Rotation C of Resource Caches at up to 2%, or Ghoul bounties at up to 4.72% during a Ghoul Purge. Stribog, Dakata, Rusalka and Cypress share the best cache rate. Both routes give one Nitain at a time, so Nightwave stays far faster.
Can you buy Nitain Extract with Platinum? Not directly. It isn't sold for Platinum in the sources listed by the wiki or DE's tables, and the wiki tags it as untradeable, so no player can sell it to you either. Your Platinum can still buy many finished items that would otherwise need Nitain to build.
Do boosters or Steel Path help? No. The wiki marks Nitain as unaffected by Resource Boosters, Resource Drop Chance Boosters, Blessings and Retriever mods, and Steel Path's drop bonus doesn't apply either. Every Nitain drop stays a single unit.
Is Nitain Extract always in the Nightwave shop? The wiki lists it as always available with no purchase limit. Each Nightwave series uses its own Cred, though, so unspent Cred stops working in the shop when the series ends.
How much Nitain should I stockpile? About 30 covers Ivara, Saryn Prime and a few 2-Nitain Prime parts with some spare. That's only 90 Cred. Go higher if you plan to build Vauban Prime or several Omni Forma, and remember the extra stock can't be sold.
Does Warframe: Tau change any of this? We don't know yet. The current drop tables and shop prices are confirmed for Update 44.1 only. Warframe: Tau, Update 45, is due in December 2026, and we'll update this page if it changes the Nitain sources.
