MK Mobile Krypt Guide (7.4): Krypt Hearts, Keys & the New Upgrades Store

The Krypt is Mortal Kombat Mobile's weekly dungeon mode. You clear it for Krypt Hearts, then spend those Hearts in a store that changes every Krypt event. Update 7.4 changed the Krypt more than it looks at first glance: there's a new Upgrades tab that sells Fusion Ups for Hearts, Fusion Up drop chances were cut, Elder and Khaotic pay slightly more Hearts, and a new Krypt badge hunt is live. This guide covers how a run works, how to squeeze more Hearts out of each one, what to buy before the reset, and why letting Hearts expire is the worst deal in the mode.

Quick answer (checked October 26, 2026, Update 7.4): The Krypt opens at player level 25 and gives 2 free runs a day. After that you need Krypt Keys, which the Krypt Store sells for 500 Souls each, up to 5 per Krypt season. Krypt Hearts only work while the current Krypt event is live. Whatever you don't spend converts into Keys at 5,000 Hearts per Key, which is a bad rate. Since 7.4, the store's new Upgrades tab sells one of each of the 4 Fusion Up types per week for Hearts. Gold Character and Rare Equipment Fusion Ups no longer drop from non-boss Khaotic fights, though they still drop in Elder. Use the featured characters for the Heart bonus, finish runs instead of escaping, and spend down before the weekly reset.

How does the Krypt work in MK Mobile?

WB's official Krypt Guide describes a randomly generated dungeon that opens at player level 25. You pick a difficulty, lock in a team of three and walk a fogged map. Along the way you hit four kinds of nodes:

  • Tombstones: "Shatter these to obtain Krypt Hearts."
  • Chests: hold Konsumables you can use during the run, plus other rewards.
  • Enemies: randomised teams, gear and Kombat Modifiers that block your path.
  • Empty nodes: nothing on them, so you just walk through.

A boss guards the exit. Since Update 6.1, "all Krypts difficulties are now one floor, with the floor's size based on the chosen difficulty" (6.1 patch notes). Older guides that talk about multi-floor runs are out of date. The screenshots in this guide come from WB's original Krypt Guide, so their UI is from before that change.

Three rules decide how you play it:

  • Damage carries over. "Any Health lost during a battle is not healed after a fight is over and persists throughout the rest of the Krypt run." Knocked-out fighters stay out until you use a Revive Stone.
  • Your team is locked. The fighters you pick "will be locked out of all other activities until the run is complete," and you can't swap them mid-run.
  • Fighters get Fatigued. After a run, the team is Fatigued and can't enter the Krypt again until it recovers or you use an Invigorating Stone.

What changed in the Krypt in Update 7.4?

Update 7.4 went live on October 13, 2026. Its patch notes list four Krypt changes under "Fusion Up Changes", plus a new badge:

"A new category has been added to the Krypt Store called “Upgrades”. All 4 types of Fusion Up Consumables are available to purchase with Krypt Hearts. Each has a purchase limit of 1 per season (so one of each per week)." — WB Games, Update 7.4 patch notes

Players are still arguing about the Fusion Up nerf. In an r/mkxmobile thread titled "Anybody getting way more fusion up cards despite the nerf?", some players report runs with two or three Epic or Diamond Fusion Ups, and others say they're getting nothing. That's what you'd expect from RNG over a small number of runs. WB's patch notes say average drop chances went down. The Upgrades tab is the part you can count on.

WB doesn't publish what the 4 Fusion Up types are or what they cost in Hearts. The patch notes name Gold Character and Rare Equipment Fusion Ups, and players talk about Diamond and Epic ones, so the four types are most likely Gold Character, Diamond Character, Rare Equipment and Epic Equipment (WB hasn't confirmed the list). Check the Upgrades tab for this week's Heart prices before you plan your spending.

How do you get more Krypt Hearts?

You can't buy a bigger payout directly. What you can control is the team, the difficulty and how the run ends.

1. Bring the featured characters. WB's guide says "each Krypt features certain Characters that will grant a bonus to the Krypt Hearts you earn if they are on your team." The Krypt Gateway shows your combined multiplier next to the expected reward range before you enter. In WB's example screenshot, the range is "1,038 - 1,925 (x1.73)" on Hard. Since Update 7.1, WB says Krypt seasons can feature "new Character & Class combinations," and these "should allow getting the max bonus while using a full synergized team easier." Check the Gateway's featured list every week, because the bonus picks change with each Krypt season.

2. Finish the run instead of escaping. On a Victory, "any Krypt Hearts you collected throughout the run are fully awarded." Defeat or Escape only pays "a fraction." If a run is going badly, use a Revive Stone or Health Stone first if you have one. Escaping throws away part of everything you've earned so far.

3. Break every Tombstone you can reach. Tombstones are the direct Heart nodes. When the map branches, the path with more visible Tombstones is usually worth a slightly longer route if your team's health can handle it.

4. Play the hardest difficulty you can actually finish. Hearts scale with difficulty, and 7.4 raised Elder and Khaotic Heart payouts. But a failed Elder run that pays a fraction can come out worse than a clean Hard clear. Move up one difficulty only when you're clearing the current one comfortably.

5. Use both free runs every day. The 2 daily entries cost nothing. Missing a day loses Hearts you can't get back, since the season is only a week long.

How much an Elder run pays depends a lot on the map. In the 7.4 "How can I get more hearts?" thread, one player said 3.6k Hearts was the Elder cap before the buff and they had yet to see anyone actually hit it. Another said some runs barely clear the minimum. Use the Gateway's range as your real expectation, not someone's best run.

Elder vs Khaotic: which should you run?

Khaotic arrived in Update 6.3 (June 2025) with WB promising "fiercer battles, higher stakes, and even deadlier rewards." When it launched, an r/mkxmobile post summarising the update described it like this:

"Khaotic will award about 20% more Hearts and have more Rare (Blue) and Purple (Epic) chests … Diamond fighters will be a possible reward now for boss fights in Khaotic difficulty." — u/ManWithNoGame45, "The Krypt Updates & NEW Khaotic Difficulty: What We Know", June 2025

The same post said that once your free runs are used up, Elder costs 2 Keys per entry and Khaotic costs 3. That's a community report from launch, so check the cost on the Gateway's Enter button before you spend Keys.

Our take: if your Khaotic clears are reliable, Khaotic is still the Heart ceiling. If you mostly needed Gold Character and Rare Equipment Fusion Ups from regular fights, 7.4 pushed that farm into Elder. Buy those two types in the Upgrades tab instead. It's the only guaranteed weekly source of them inside the Krypt (the Kombat Pass reward tracks also include Fusion Up Kards).

How do Krypt Keys work, and is converting Hearts worth it?

MK Mobile Krypt art showing 5000 Krypt Hearts converting into 1 Krypt Key

Keys pay for runs beyond your 2 free ones. WB lists three sources: the Store, the Krypt itself, and events like the Kombat Pass. Two later patches added more:

  • Test Your Luck: since 7.0.1, players "have a chance to earn Krypt Keys when above Test Your Luck Level 5."
  • Souls: since 7.1, the Krypt Store's Currencies tab sells Keys "for 500 Souls, with a Purchase Limit of 5 per Krypt Season."

Then there's the conversion at the end of each season. WB's Krypt Guide is clear that Hearts don't carry over: "Any remaining Krypt Hearts will be automatically converted into Krypt Keys when the current Krypt event ends." In October 2025, WB made that conversion much worse:

"The amount of Hearts required to convert into Krypt Keys at the end of a Krypt season has been updated from 2,000 to 5,000 Hearts. This adjustment was made in an effort to balance rewards across game modes." — WB Games, Update 7.0 patch notes

Do the maths. 5,000 Hearts become one Key, and the store sells a Key for 500 Souls. That same 5,000 Hearts could instead go toward this week's Krypt Store stock, like the Upgrades Fusion Ups or the featured character and gear, so check their Heart prices before you let anything convert. Conversion is the fallback, not a plan. Spend first and let only the leftovers turn into Keys.

What should you buy in the Krypt Store?

MK Mobile Krypt Store Konsumables tab with Health, Life, Force, Revive and Invigorating Stones

WB says the store stocks "Gold/Diamond Characters, New Equipment, and Krypt Konsumables," and that the character and gear selection is "unique to each Krypt event." Since 7.4 it also has the Upgrades tab. Here's a spending order that works for most accounts:

  • The Upgrades tab, every week. Each Fusion Up type has a weekly purchase limit, so a Fusion Up you skip this week can't be bought later. Start with the type that pushes your most-used card closest to its next Fusion rank. The exception: if this week's featured Diamond or a missing set piece is a big upgrade for your main team and your Hearts can't cover both, save for that first.
  • The featured Diamond or gear piece you're actually building toward. If a card would make your Tower, Survivor or Realm Klash team stronger, it's worth more than a collection pickup. Krypt equipment includes many of the character-specific Brutality and Friendship pieces, so check whether this week's gear completes a set you already own.
  • Konsumables for your next runs. A Revive Stone that saves a near-finished Elder run gets back the full Victory payout instead of a fraction.
  • Leftovers. Only let Hearts convert when nothing in the store is worth buying.

Don't split your Hearts across several things you can only half afford. The store resets with the event, so Hearts you saved toward a Diamond you couldn't afford only turn into Keys at 5,000:1 once the season ends.

How should you plan a Krypt week?

Krypt seasons last a week, and the Upgrades limits reset with them. A simple routine:

  • Day 1: Read the Gateway's featured characters and the store's stock. Decide on one main target and check this week's Upgrades prices.
  • Every day: Run both free entries with the highest bonus multiplier you can field, and finish every run you can.
  • Mid-week: Buy the Upgrades Fusion Ups once you can afford them.
  • Final day: Check the store's countdown timer, buy your target and leftovers, and accept that the rest converts at 5,000 Hearts per Key.

The Krypt also overlaps with this month's other events. The Season of Shadows Kombat Pass "features spooky Krypt Store specials" according to the 7.4 notes. The Tower of Khaos runs at the same time, and both modes want your best Diamonds. Because Krypt teams are locked until a run ends, start your Krypt runs before a long tower session, not in the middle of one.

FAQ

What level do you need for the Krypt in MK Mobile? Player level 25. WB's Krypt Guide says the mode is "available for players level 25 and over."

How many free Krypt runs do you get per day? Two. "You can enter the Krypt twice a day for free," per WB. Extra runs need Krypt Keys, which you get from the Store (500 Souls each, up to 5 per Krypt season), Krypt rewards, the Kombat Pass and Test Your Luck.

Do Krypt Hearts carry over to the next Krypt? No. Hearts are only usable while the current Krypt event is active. Whatever's left converts into Krypt Keys at 5,000 Hearts per Key, a rate WB set in Update 7.0 (it was 2,000 before).

What is the Upgrades tab in the Krypt Store? It's a store category added in Update 7.4. It sells all 4 Fusion Up Consumable types for Krypt Hearts, with a limit of one of each per Krypt season, which WB says is one of each per week.

Did 7.4 nerf Fusion Up drops in the Krypt? Yes, slightly. WB says Fusion Up chances "decreased slightly in most Krypt difficulties." Gold Character and Rare Equipment Fusion Ups also stopped dropping from non-boss Khaotic fights. Elder still drops them, and Elder and Khaotic got a small boost to Hearts.

Is Khaotic Krypt better than Elder? For Hearts, yes, if you can finish the runs. It's the top Heart tier, and 7.4 raised its payout. For steady Gold and Rare Fusion Ups from regular fights, Elder is now the better farm.
