Quick answer (27 October 2026, Patch 2.2.16a, Season 42 "Starward Decade"): the best Aldous build for the EXP lane is Tough Boots, War Axe, Thunder Belt, Blade of Despair, Malefic Roar and Immortality (11,810 gold, mlbbhub's default build). Run the Fighter emblem with Firmness, Festival of Blood and Brave Smite, and take Flicker. If you want the "one hit" build, swap Thunder Belt for Hunter Strike and go Assassin emblem with Killing Spree (12,000 gold). The big change: Patch 2.2.16 (16 September 2026) reworked his Soul Steal stacks. The cap rose from 650 to 1,000, each stack now adds 3 damage instead of 5, and he gets stacks for simply hitting heroes. His win rate went from 48.78% on 16 September to 50.84% on 26 October on mlbbhub.

Aldous is the hero everyone has a story about. Either you farmed for 15 minutes and deleted a marksman from across the map, or you got deleted by one. He's also, as a post on r/MobileLegendsGame put it this week, the hero where "Almost 2027 and you can still dodge Aldous' 1st skill". The top reply summed up the old complaint: Moonton "created him as a budget Nasus, but didn't take in mind the tempo" of most matches. Patch 2.2.16 was Moonton's answer to exactly that. This guide covers what changed, the build, the emblem, the combo and who counters him.

What changed for Aldous in Season 42?

He was adjusted in Patch 2.2.16, the Season 42 launch patch released on 16 September 2026. The live hotfix since then, 2.2.16a (14 October 2026), didn't touch him. Moonton's own design note, verbatim (Liquipedia, Patch 2.2.16):

"Aldous's reliance on Skill 1 stacks for damage forced him to farm passively in the early game, leaving him completely out of sync with the team's pace. To boost his early-game combat capability and income while keeping his core playstyle intact, we've made the following adjustments."

Here are the main changes:

Part of the kitBefore 2.2.16After 2.2.16
Passive shield trigger3rd basic attack, 5s cooldownNext basic attack, every 8s
Passive base shield500350 (+60% move speed for 1s)
Soul Steal stack cap6501,000
Bonus damage per stack53
Stacks for hitting a hero with Skill 105
Stacks for a Siege Minion / other unit kill10 / 412 / 5
Stacks for a hero kill1012
Stacks when an ally kills a nearby Siege Minion56
Skill 1 movement speed toward heroesNone+20%
Skill 2 damage100–200 base, 200–400 max200–300 base, 400–600 max
Skill 2 movement speedYesRemoved

One warning before you read other guides: the hero pages on Liquipedia and mlbb.io still printed the old passive ("after every 2 Basic Attacks... 500" shield) when we checked them on 27 October. mlbbhub's skill text shows the new numbers. If a guide tells you the cap is 650, it was written before Season 42.

Did the rework make the one-punch weaker?

It made the punch arrive sooner, but the ceiling is a little lower. Here's the bonus damage his Skill 1 adds from stacks alone, on top of the base 200–450 and 100% Total Physical Attack:

Soul Steal stacksOld bonus (5 per stack)New bonus (3 per stack)
100500300
3001,500900
650 (old cap)3,2501,950
1,000 (new cap)not possible3,000

So the maximum stack bonus dropped from 3,250 to 3,000, about 8% lower, and you need more stacks to get there. The trade is speed. You get more stacks from Siege Minions, other units and hero kills, and hitting heroes now pays you too. Since the passive shield also scales at 3 per stack, a fully stacked Aldous now gets a 3,350 shield (350 + 3,000) instead of the old maximum of 2,450 (500 + 1,950). Late game he's a bit less of a one-shot and a lot harder to kill after he lands.

Is Aldous good in Season 42?

He's a solid niche pick now, not a trap. Both big trackers moved him up after the patch:

TrackerTierWin ratePick rateBan rate
mlbbhub (26 Oct 2026)B50.84%0.41%0.53%
mlbb.io (27 Oct 2026)B (up from C)50.5%0.4%0.5%

mlbbhub's history shows the jump clearly. He sat at 49.41% on 7 September and 48.78% on 16 September, the day the patch landed. By 28 September he was at 50.86%, with his pick rate up from 0.35% to 0.50%. He's held around 50.6–50.9% since. A pick rate under half a percent means most players still don't know how to play into him, which is part of why he wins.

How does Aldous's kit work?

Aldous, "Soul Contractor," is a Fighter for the EXP lane with Burst and Support specialties and a mana bar. Numbers below are from his current skill text on mlbbhub and the Patch 2.2.16 notes. Damage, cooldown and mana figures are skill-level-1 values. All of his damage is physical.

  • Passive: Contract: Transform. Every 8 seconds, his next basic attack gives him a shield of 350 (+3 per Soul Steal stack) for 3 seconds and 60% movement speed for 1 second.
  • Skill 1: Contract: Soul Steal. His next basic attack deals 200 (+100% Total Physical Attack) (+3 per stack) physical damage, with 300% extra base damage to minions and creeps. Killing a Siege Minion gives 12 stacks, any other unit 5, hitting a hero 5, killing a hero 12, up to 1,000. He also gets 6 stacks when an ally kills a nearby Siege Minion and 2 for other nearby units. While it's active he gets 20% movement speed toward enemy heroes. Cooldown 4s, 45 mana.
  • Skill 2: Contract: Explosion. He takes a defensive stance with 30% damage reduction for up to 2 seconds, then deals 200 (+20% Total Physical Attack) to 400 (+40%) damage around him and stuns for 0.5 to 1 second. The longer you hold it, the bigger the hit and the longer the stun. Cooldown 12s, 80 mana.
  • Ultimate: Contract: Chase Fate. He sees every enemy hero for 5 seconds. Cast it again to dash at one of them for 250 (+8% of the target's Max HP) damage and a 1-second knockback. The dash interrupts the target's Recall. Cooldown 60s, 150 mana.

Skill order, per mlbbhub: max Skill 1 first, then Skill 2, and take the ultimate whenever you can.

What is the best Aldous build in Season 42?

There are three builds worth knowing. All three come from mlbbhub's curated loadouts. They were last reviewed on Patch 2.1.67, but none of these items has changed since. Patch 2.2.16 had no equipment section and 2.2.16a only adjusted heroes (see our MLBB items guide for the last item pass).

EXP lane default build (11,810 gold)

  • Tough Boots (700). He dives into crowd control, so he needs the CC reduction to act after landing.
  • War Axe (2,100). Health, physical attack, spell vamp and cooldown reduction in one item. This is your first real spike.
  • Thunder Belt (1,820). HP, both defenses and a passive: every 4 seconds his next basic attack deals extra true damage around the target and briefly slows them, and each hero hit adds 1 permanent hybrid defense. Your Skill 1 punch is a basic attack, so it can carry that proc.
  • Blade of Despair (3,010). The most expensive item in the game and the biggest raw damage boost.
  • Malefic Roar (2,060). Buy it when tanks or defense items are blocking your target.
  • Immortality (2,120). One revive for the dive that goes wrong.

That build adds +255 physical attack, +2,000 HP, +8% spell vamp and 10% cooldown reduction. It's the safest way to play him, and it's what we'd pick in solo queue.

The "one hit" burst build (12,000 gold)

This is the build Indonesian players search for as "build Aldous 1 hit." It's Tough Boots, War Axe, Blade of Despair, Hunter Strike, Malefic Roar and Immortality, with the Assassin emblem (Rupture, Master Assassin, Killing Spree). It adds +335 physical attack but only +1,200 HP. Use it when you're ahead and the enemy backline is out of position. Against a team with lots of crowd control, you'll land one punch and die.

Off-meta jungle build (11,130 gold)

Tough Boots, War Axe, Endless Battle, Thunder Belt, Malefic Roar, Immortality, with Retribution and the Common emblem (Thrill, Seasoned Hunter, War Cry). Skill 1's 300% extra damage to creeps makes him a quick jungler, but he takes the farm that your team's main damage dealer wants. Only play him here if your EXP laner can hold a side lane alone.

Situational swaps

  • Warrior Boots instead of Tough Boots, only into a mostly physical team with little crowd control.
  • Valkyrie's Shield (this used to be called Athena's Shield, and some sites still use that name) instead of Immortality against one big magic combo.
  • Antique Cuirass instead of Immortality against physical skill burst.
  • Queen's Wings for long fights where you survive at low HP.
  • Endless Battle instead of Hunter Strike when you want true damage and sustain but can't play full burst.

What emblem and battle spell should Aldous use?

Fighter emblem is the default: Firmness in tier 1, Festival of Blood in tier 2, Brave Smite as the keystone. Brave Smite heals him when his skills deal damage, which matters for an EXP laner who now trades more often. Our MLBB emblem guide explains how each talent tier works.

Assassin emblem goes with the burst build. Killing Spree heals and speeds you up after a kill so you can leave or keep going. It's also the most common emblem in the community builds on mlbb.io, used in 6 of 13 builds.

For the battle spell, Flicker is the clear choice. It's in 92% of 12 builds on mlbb.io. Sprint works too if the enemy laner keeps slowing and chasing you. Use Retribution only in the jungle. The battle spells guide covers when each spell is worth taking.

What is the best Aldous combo?

Laning combo: Skill 1, walk in with the 20% speed, use Skill 2 to absorb their counter-attack, hit them with the punch, then Skill 1 again for a second empowered hit once the 4-second cooldown is back.

Pickoff combo: Ultimate to reveal the map, check who's standing near the target, ultimate again to dash, then Skill 1 right after landing, and Skill 2 to soak the damage that comes back at you.

Here's the most common mistake: people open with Skill 2 because it ends in a stun. Don't. Skill 2 no longer gives movement speed, so you can't use it to escape anymore. Its 30% damage reduction is what keeps you alive after the dash. Save it for when the enemy fights back. Your way out is now the passive's 60% speed burst, and only when it's off cooldown.

How do you play Aldous after the rework?

Minutes 0–8: farm, but don't hide. Use Skill 1 to last-hit, and always kill the Siege Minion (12 stacks). The old Aldous gave up the lane. The new one can take short trades, because a Skill 1 that hits a hero now pays 5 stacks even if it doesn't kill. Trade when the passive shield is ready, then back off when it's gone.

Minutes 10–16: War Axe plus a real stack count. mlbbhub puts the spike around 10 to 12 minutes in a clean game. Before then, the ultimate is mostly for vision and finishing off low targets. After it, every enemy marksman has to play near their tank.

16+ minutes: this is when he's strongest. mlbbhub's matchup data shows Aldous's best phase is after 16 minutes and his worst is the first 10. Split-push a side lane, and use the ultimate when a fight starts somewhere else, not before it.

Two habits that win games:

  • Use the ultimate's vision even when you don't dash. Revealing the enemy jungler before a Lord fight can be worth more than the dash. If three enemies are near the target, let it run out.
  • Cancel the dash if they Flicker under their tower. Waiting for the cooldown hurts, but dying with a shutdown bounty on you is worse.

Who counters Aldous?

Both trackers agree on the top of the list:

Countermlbbhub edgemlbb.io edgeWhy it works
Esmeralda+3.7+3.8Out-sustains him in lane with her shields and regen
Cyclops+2.5+2.2Pokes and locks him down before he can stack
Karina+2.2+2.5Punishes his weak early game
Angela+2.4—Shields or attaches to the target he dives
Roger+1.6+1.4Durable in lane and can kite him

("Edge" is the counter hero's win-rate advantage in percentage points, mlbbhub on 26 October and mlbb.io on 27 October 2026.)

Moonton's official threat note picks out Kaja: "Aldous is vulnerable when Skill 2 is not ready. If controlled for a long time Aldous will be easily killed." Any long suppress or chain stun does the same thing.

Who does Aldous beat? Both sites list Uranus, Helcurt, X.Borg, Gatotkaca and Novaria as good matchups for him.

How to beat Aldous if you're facing him

  • Pressure him early. mlbbhub rates his early game as his weakest phase and his late game as his strongest. Take his Siege Minions and invade his side.
  • Track how long he's farmed alone. If he's had a side lane to himself for 10 minutes, your marksman shouldn't farm alone either.
  • Stay grouped when his ultimate is up. It reveals everyone for 5 seconds, so hiding in a bush doesn't help.
  • Save your crowd control for after he lands. Stun him when Skill 2 is down and he dies. If you stun him during the 30% damage reduction, you've wasted it.

FAQ

What is the best build for Aldous in Mobile Legends? For the EXP lane on Patch 2.2.16a, go Tough Boots, War Axe, Thunder Belt, Blade of Despair, Malefic Roar and Immortality, with the Fighter emblem (Brave Smite) and Flicker. Swap Thunder Belt for Hunter Strike and use the Assassin emblem for a full burst build.

What is the max Soul Steal stack for Aldous? Since Patch 2.2.16 (16 September 2026) the cap is 1,000 stacks, up from 650, and each stack adds 3 bonus damage instead of 5. A full stack adds 3,000 damage to Skill 1, compared with 3,250 under the old system.

Is Aldous still good in Season 42? Yes. He's a B-tier pick on both mlbbhub and mlbb.io, with about a 50.5–50.8% ranked win rate in late October 2026, up from 48.78% on the day the rework shipped.

What is the "build Aldous 1 hit"? It's the full-damage build: War Axe, Blade of Despair, Hunter Strike and Malefic Roar with Tough Boots and Immortality, about 12,000 gold. It adds +335 physical attack but leaves him fragile, so only use it when you're ahead.

Who is the best counter to Aldous? Esmeralda, by roughly 3.7–3.8 percentage points on both trackers, followed by Cyclops and Karina. Any hero who can punish his first 10 minutes or lock him down after he lands works.

Can Aldous jungle? He can. Skill 1 deals 300% extra base damage to creeps, and mlbbhub lists an off-meta jungle build with Retribution. EXP lane is still where he does best, though, because his stacks come from Siege Minions.
