Mobile Legends Season 42 Starward Decade: Everything New in the 10th Anniversary Update

Quick answer: Season 42 "Starward Decade" went live on 16 September 2026, the ranked season built around Mobile Legends' 10th Anniversary. The headline changes are eight revamped heroes — led by a full rework of Masha — a visual overhaul of the main map, Sanctum Island, three new battlefield effects (Revealing Wisps, Golden Turrets and a Healing Turtle), and a stack of free 10th Anniversary rewards. Every hero and map claim below applies to the Season 42 launch build dated 16 September 2026; the Original Server patch version number for this update was not published by Moonton at launch.

This is the biggest MLBB update of the year, and it is the one that resets the meta. If you have been climbing on a hero that just got reworked, the way you play changes today. Here is every confirmed change, what it means for your ranked games, and the two things worth doing first.

If you are specifically wondering where you land after the season flip, that is a separate mechanic — see our companion guide on the Mobile Legends rank reset.

When did Season 42 start?

Season 42 launched on 16 September 2026, the same day Season 41 "Scarlet Embers" ended. The date is first-party: Moonton's official account posted the announcement — "S42 Starward Decade — The 10th Anniversary Special Season will begin on 09/16! A total of 8 Revamped Heroes, including Masha, Clint, and Badang, are making their debut!" (@MobileLegendsOL, 9 September 2026).

Because eight heroes were revamped at once, this season shipped with a client patch. Note the naming trap that trips up a lot of leak posts: the Advance Server — the public test build — was running version 2.2.14 in the week before launch, but Advance Server numbers run ahead of the live client and Advance changes routinely ship changed or not at all. Treat anything you saw on the test server as provisional until it is in the live game, which the changes below now are.

The 8 revamped heroes — "World Shaped by Heroes"

The hero revamp is the centrepiece, themed "World Shaped by Heroes." Eight heroes were reworked for Season 42: Masha, Bruno, Brody, Kadita, Badang, Clint, Paquito and Luo Yi. One of them — Masha — got a full ability rework; the other seven received visual reworks with skill optimisations.

Masha — the one full rework

Masha is the hero to relearn. According to the GamingOnPhone Season 42 preview, her rework touches both her look and her kit:

  • Passive: her basic attacks now deal area-of-effect damage, turning her from a duelist into a genuine teamfight brawler.
  • Second skill: reworked into a blink, giving her the gap-close and repositioning she never had.
  • Ultimate: now stuns enemies while letting her burst them down.

The net effect is a shift from a health-bar-stacking bruiser into a burst-damage fighter who can dive, lock a target and blow it up. If Masha was your comfort pick, expect her combos, item build and lane role to feel different — and expect her to show up a lot in ranked while everyone tests the rework.

The other seven

Bruno, Brody, Kadita, Badang, Clint, Paquito and Luo Yi received visual reworks with skill optimisations. Bruno, for example, was described as getting visual upgrades plus optimisations that make his gameplay feel smoother, and Kadita's revamp reportedly touches her passive rather than being purely cosmetic. These are polish-and-tune reworks rather than ground-up redesigns like Masha's, so the heroes play broadly the way you remember — they just look cleaner and feel tighter. Even so, a "skill optimisation" can quietly move a hero up or down the pecking order, so watch the numbers over the first week and check the in-game hero page for the exact changes.

A word of caution on tier lists: any MLBB tier list written before 16 September is out of date the moment this patch goes live. Eight heroes changed on the same day, and the third-party trackers were already disagreeing with each other before the revamp. Give the meta a week or two to settle before trusting a "best heroes for Season 42" list — including ours.

The Sanctum Island map revamp

Season 42 also rebuilt the main battlefield. Sanctum Island got a visual upgrade across the map, the turrets, the jungle monsters and the Lord. On top of the fresh coat of paint, Moonton added three new battlefield effects tied to the anniversary.

  • Revealing Wisps ("Nowhere to Hide"). The map continuously spawns wisps that reveal enemies in your surroundings, making it much harder to get ganked without warning. This is a big deal for solo-queue survivability — the classic "jungler appears from the fog" death gets a counter.
  • Golden Turrets. Turrets gain more HP but hand out more gold when destroyed, so your main carry can hit their power spike ahead of the late game. It rewards teams that can actually take towers rather than just farm.
  • Healing Turtle. Slay the turtle and you now get an actual turtle that pushes with your team and heals nearby allies while it does. It converts a gold objective into map pressure plus sustain.

These effects change how you should play the early-to-mid game: vision is cheaper, tower dives are riskier for the turret but more rewarding when they land, and the turtle objective now carries a push threat, not just a gold bounty.

Quality-of-life: control and training

Two smaller-but-welcome additions round out the update:

  • Dash indicator. There is now an extra on-screen indicator showing your hero's dash distance, so blink and dash timings are easier to judge — useful for exactly the kind of repositioning Masha's new blink demands.
  • Multiplayer Training Camp. You can now train with friends in the training camp, so you can practise combos, matchups and the reworked heroes together instead of solo against a dummy.

The 10th Anniversary rewards

Season 42 is wrapped around Mobile Legends' 10th Anniversary, and the season carries the usual free and premium reward layer on top of the ranked track:

  • A season-exclusive skin plus avatar border and profile background effects, earnable through the ranked season the same way every season rewards work.
  • A wider "Starward Decade" 10th Anniversary campaign that runs alongside the season — a multi-week event track with its own free anniversary skins, login and recharge rewards, and mini-games stretching past the season launch into the autumn.

One rule for this section, because it is the single most error-prone thing to write about MLBB: do not trust circulating "free skin" name-and-date lists. Specific anniversary skins, their heroes and their claim windows get aggregated by third-party sites and are frequently wrong or region-specific — always confirm which skins are actually claimable, and until when, inside the in-game Events tab, not from a screenshot or a listicle.

What to do first in Season 42

If you only do two things today:

  • Relearn Masha before you queue ranked on her. Her passive, second skill and ultimate all changed. Take her into the training camp — ideally the new multiplayer one with a friend feeding you targets — before you trust her in a placement game.
  • Adjust to the map, not just the heroes. Play the first few games knowing Revealing Wisps punish flank routes, the turtle now heals and pushes, and gold turrets reward tower pressure. The players who bank rating early in a season are usually the ones who adapt to the map changes first, because everyone else is busy staring at the new hero splash arts.

And if you are starting Season 42 further down the ladder than you would like after the reset, the fastest way back to your real rank is to main a couple of heroes you already know well rather than chasing the shiny reworks in ranked. Consistency climbs; novelty tilts.

Frequently Asked Questions

When did Mobile Legends Season 42 start? Season 42 "Starward Decade" started on 16 September 2026, the same day Season 41 "Scarlet Embers" ended. The date was confirmed by Moonton's official @MobileLegendsOL account.

Which heroes were revamped in Season 42? Eight heroes: Masha, Bruno, Brody, Kadita, Badang, Clint, Paquito and Luo Yi. Masha received a full ability rework (AoE passive, a blink on her second skill, and a stun on her ultimate); the other seven got visual reworks with skill optimisations.

What changed with Masha in the Season 42 rework? Her basic attacks now deal area-of-effect damage, her second skill became a blink, and her ultimate now stuns enemies. The rework turns her from a health-stacking bruiser into a burst-damage teamfight fighter, so her build and playstyle are different from before.

What are the new Sanctum Island map effects? Three: Revealing Wisps that spawn across the map and expose nearby enemies, Golden Turrets that have more HP but drop more gold when destroyed, and a Healing Turtle that spawns as a pushing, healing ally after you slay the turtle. The map, turrets, jungle monsters and Lord also got a visual upgrade.

What free rewards does the 10th Anniversary season give? The season includes a free season-exclusive skin, avatar border and profile background effects earned through ranked play, alongside the wider 10th Anniversary event track. Confirm any specific anniversary skin's availability window in the in-game events tab, since third-party "free skin" date lists are often inaccurate.

Is there a new hero in Season 42? No new hero launched with the season itself — the headline additions are the eight revamped heroes. The most recent brand-new hero before this was Hirara (June 2026). As always with MLBB, treat any "next hero" rumour from the Advance Server as unconfirmed until it reaches the live game.

This guide covers the Mobile Legends Season 42 "Starward Decade" launch build as of 16 September 2026. Hero balance and meta claims in Mobile Legends change roughly monthly with each Original Server patch — always check the in-game patch notes for the current numbers.
