The best worker Pals in Palworld 1.0 are the new World Tree Pals with a Level 8 work rating — Solenne for Handiwork, Shaolong for Watering, Renjishi for Kindling, Dandilord for Planting, Aegidron for Mining and Silvance for Medicine — but you don't need to reach the World Tree to build a base that runs itself. The July 10, 2026 full release rebalanced every single Pal's Work Suitability and raised the ceiling from Level 5 to Level 10, which means every "best base Pals" list written before that date is wrong. This guide is the current one: the best Pal for each of the ten work types, the strong mid-game options you can catch far earlier, and the three upgrades — condensing, passives and skill books — that turn a decent worker into a station that never sleeps.
Everything here is checked against the live build, 1.0.4 (console tag 1.102.642, early September 2026), and Pocketpair's official 1.0 patch notes.
Quick answer: The single best all-round base Pal you can realistically get is Anubis — Handiwork Lv.6, Mining Lv.6, Transporting Lv.4 and an 800 run speed, catchable around Level 50-55 without any World Tree progress. At the top end, the Level 8 specialists are all World Tree Pals: Solenne (Handiwork), Shaolong (Watering), Renjishi (Kindling), Dandilord (Planting), Aegidron (Mining) and Silvance (Medicine). Early game, lean on Lifmunk (Handiwork), Cattiva (Handiwork/Transport) and Tocotoco (Gathering) until you can catch better. Then stop thinking about which Pal and start condensing it, breeding work-speed passives onto it, and feeding it Work Suitability Handbooks — that's where the real base throughput comes from.
If the climb to 80 is the part you want to skip, our Palworld leveling service handles it on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, on your own world or a dedicated server.

Key takeaways
- 1.0 killed every old base-Pal list. Work Suitability was raised to a 10-level ceiling and all Pals were rebalanced, so any tier list from before July 2026 is out of date.
- You don't need the World Tree for a great base. Anubis (Handiwork 6 / Mining 6 / Transporting 4, ~Lv.50-55) is the best worker most players can actually get, and it's the one Pal that covers three jobs at once.
- The Level 8 specialists are all World Tree Pals — Solenne, Shaolong, Renjishi, Dandilord, Aegidron, Silvance — but they're a late-game reward, not an early-game plan.
- Upgrades beat the Pal. Condensing to 4 stars raises all of a Pal's work suitabilities by +1, work-speed passives stack, and Work Suitability Handbooks push a rating toward the Lv.10 cap. A condensed common worker beats a raw rare one.
How Work Suitability actually works in 1.0
Every Pal has a set of Work Suitability ratings — the jobs it can do at your base and how good it is at each. In Early Access these capped at Level 5. The 1.0 release raised the ceiling to Level 10 and rebalanced every Pal, quoting the official patch notes directly:
"Work Suitability Levels have been expanded to 10 levels, and the Work Suitability values of all Pals have been rebalanced."
That one line is why this guide exists. If a guide tells you the best miner is a Level 3 or Level 5 Pal, it's reading the old game. The ten work types are Kindling, Watering, Planting, Generating Electricity, Handiwork, Gathering, Lumbering, Mining, Medicine Production, and Transporting, plus Cooling and Farming as station-specific jobs. A base Pal self-selects its job by walking to any station that matches a suitability it has — so the goal is to assign a small team whose ratings, together, cover every station you've built.
You assign a Pal to a base one of two ways: throw its Pal Sphere inside the base radius, or deploy it from the Palbox. One thing that trips up new players — and one that showed up repeatedly in this week's r/Palworld threads — is the Pal Research Table: assigned research pulls a Pal off its normal job and is the lowest priority task, so if you don't manually assign a worker to it, "research almost never gets done." Assign a dedicated Pal, let it finish, and it returns to auto mode.
Best worker Pal for every job (1.0)
These are the highest natural ratings in the game. The Level 8 specialists are World Tree Pals found around Level 76-78, so treat them as an endgame reward. Always re-check a Pal's exact suitability on palworld.wiki.gg before committing a breeding project to it — the values below are current for 1.0.4, but Pocketpair rebalances workers between patches.
Handiwork — Solenne (Lv.8). The highest natural Handiwork in the game and nocturnal, so it crafts through the night while your daytime Pals rest. World Tree, around Lv.76-78. Handiwork touches almost every crafting station, so this is the most valuable single specialist to chase.
Watering — Shaolong (Lv.8). Highest natural Watering, plus Gathering Lv.5 as a bonus. Pairs with a Kindling and Planting Pal to run a self-sufficient food farm. World Tree.
Kindling — Renjishi (Lv.8). Highest Kindling (cooking, smelting, the furnace line), and it also carries Handiwork Lv.6, Gathering Lv.5 and Transporting Lv.5 — a genuine four-job worker. World Tree.
Planting — Dandilord (Lv.8). Planting Lv.8 with Handiwork Lv.6 and Medicine Production Lv.6, and it's nocturnal. World Tree. Handles the "seed the plots" half of a food farm.
Mining — Aegidron (Lv.8). The dedicated Mining specialist, story-gated in the World Tree. For most of the game the more realistic pick is Knocklem (Mining Lv.7, Transporting Lv.7, Gathering Lv.4, ~120 carry capacity) — the best ore-site hauler because it mines and carries the ore back.
Medicine Production — Silvance (Lv.8). The dedicated medicine specialist for the endgame World Tree base. World Tree.
Generating Electricity — Orserk (Lv.8). The top electricity worker. Note that Orserk was breed-only in Early Access; there are reports it now has a wild World Tree spawn around Lv.74-76, but that's a single source — expect to breed it if you can't find it.
Gathering / Lumbering / Cooling — cover with generalists. For Cooling (the fridge/food-preservation job), Bastigor hits Cooling Lv.8. For Lumbering and Gathering, a couple of mid-tier Pals with the right passives will keep up long before you need a Level 8 specialist.
The best worker you can actually get: Anubis
Here's the honest answer for most players. The Level 8 specialists live in Level 76+ endgame content, which you won't touch until you're near the Level 80 cap. Long before that, Anubis is the base Pal to build around.
Anubis has Handiwork Lv.6, Mining Lv.6 and Transporting Lv.4, plus an 800 run speed so it sprints between stations instead of trudging. That single Pal covers crafting, ore work and hauling — three jobs one body — and you can catch it wild at roughly Level 50-55, no World Tree progress required (see our Anubis location guide for the exact spawn). Stack two or three Anubis at a base and you've got a crafting-and-mining backbone that most guides only offer you after 20 more hours of play.
For early game, before Anubis is realistic, the classic starters still hold up: Lifmunk (Handiwork), Cattiva (Handiwork + Transporting + Mining Lv.1, a great first all-rounder), Tocotoco (Gathering), Fuack (Watering) and Foxparks (Kindling). None of them are impressive on paper — but a condensed Lifmunk with work-speed passives out-produces a raw rare Pal, which brings us to the part that actually matters.

Upgrades beat the Pal: how to double a worker's output
The Pal you pick is maybe half the equation. The other half is what you do to it. These stack, and a fully-upgraded common worker will beat an un-upgraded specialist.
Condensing (Pal Essence Condenser). 1.0 slashed the cost of maxing a Pal — the official note reads:
"Reduced the number of Pals required to reach the maximum rank (from 116 total to 48)."
Stars 1-3 each raise one of a Pal's work suitabilities by +1. The 4th star raises ALL of its suitabilities by +1 — a base Pal that hits 4 stars becomes better at every job it can do. The full max is 4 / 8 / 12 / 24 = 48 duplicates. Breed your worker in bulk at Level 1, hatch the fodder, and feed the condenser. Our Palworld condensing guide walks through the full 48-Pal math.
Work-speed passives. This is what the veterans in this week's cooking-speed thread all converged on: breed work-speed passive skills onto the Pal, set them as the parents' active skills, and use the Special Cake (Technology level 74) to make the pass-down reliable (our Palworld breeding guide covers passive inheritance). Passives cap at 4 per Pal. A dedicated worker running work-speed passives plus 4-star condensing is a different machine than the same Pal fresh out of a sphere.
Work Suitability Handbooks. There are 12 of these, one per suitability, and each permanently raises a Pal's rating toward the Level 10 cap. That's how a Level 8 specialist reaches Level 9 or 10 — and how you can lift a favourite mid-game Pal a rung higher than its natural rating. Buy them from the Medal Merchant (in ruined churches) or earn them from boss drops.
Research the work speed itself. Separately from the Pal, the Pal Research Table lets you research faster work speed for specific job types (kindling, watering, etc.). Assign a Pal to it manually — as noted above, it's the lowest-priority task and won't progress on its own.
Put together, the fastest path to a base that runs itself isn't hunting one rare Pal — it's levelling to the point where the good workers spawn, then condensing and breeding the ones you have (if you're still climbing, our how to level up fast guide gets you to the endgame worker Pals quicker). If you'd rather skip the grind to the Level 80 endgame where Anubis, the World Tree specialists and the max-rank materials all become available, our Palworld Leveling Boost gets you there fast.
Get to the good workers faster:
- Palworld Leveling Boost — skip the grind to the Level 80 endgame where the best worker Pals and max-rank upgrades unlock.
- All Palworld services — carries, bosses, currency and more.
A base team that covers everything
You don't need one of every specialist. A tight team that covers all ten jobs beats a base full of overlapping Pals fighting over the same station. A solid mid-to-late setup:
- 1-2× Anubis — Handiwork + Mining + Transporting backbone.
- 1× Knocklem — mining and hauling at ore sites.
- 1× Kindling Pal (Renjishi late, or a condensed Foxparks/Bushi earlier) — cooking and smelting.
- 1× Watering + 1× Planting (Shaolong + Dandilord late; Fuack + a planting Pal early) — the food farm.
- 1× Electricity Pal (Orserk or a mid-tier electric) — powers the ranch and utilities.
- 1× Bastigor for Cooling if you're running a food-preservation setup.
Default bases hold 15 work Pals each; world settings can raise that. Fill overlaps with condensed commons rather than more rare Pals, and let the 4-star "raise all suitabilities" bonus do the heavy lifting.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best base Pal in Palworld 1.0? For most players it's Anubis — Handiwork Lv.6, Mining Lv.6, Transporting Lv.4, 800 run speed, and catchable around Level 50-55 without needing the World Tree. It covers three jobs in one body. The absolute-highest specialists (Solenne, Shaolong, Renjishi, Dandilord, Aegidron, Silvance) all sit at Work Suitability Level 8 but are World Tree Pals you won't reach until near the Level 80 cap.
What is the highest Work Suitability level in Palworld? Level 10. The 1.0 release raised the ceiling from 5 to 10 and rebalanced every Pal's ratings, which is why every base-Pal guide written before July 10, 2026 is out of date. The Level 8 natural specialists can be pushed higher with Work Suitability Handbooks and condensing.
Do captured Pals level up their work suitability? Natural work suitability is fixed per Pal, but you can raise it three ways: condensing (the 4th star raises all suitabilities by +1), Work Suitability Handbooks (12 total, one per job, permanent), and stacking work-speed passives. That's why a condensed common worker outperforms a raw rare one.
How many Pals can work at one base? The default is 15 work Pals per base, and world settings can increase it. You can run multiple bases, so spread specialised setups (a mining base, a food-farm base) rather than cramming everything into one.
Why aren't my Pals doing research? Assigned research at the Pal Research Table is the lowest-priority job, so a Pal on auto mode almost never gets to it. Manually assign a worker to the research task; it'll pause its normal job, finish the research, then return to auto mode.
Is it worth breeding worker Pals? Yes — arguably more than catching them. Set the work-speed passives you want as the parents' active skills, use the Special Cake (Technology 74) to make the pass-down reliable, and breed in bulk to feed condensing (48 duplicates for a 4-star max). A bred, condensed, passive-stacked worker is the real endgame base upgrade.
