Quick answer: The Palworld level cap is level 80 as of the 1.0 release (build 1.0.5, the current live version). It was raised from 65 when Palworld left Early Access on July 10, 2026. You cannot legitimately go past 80 — the XP bar simply stops. The fastest honest route to 80 is to stack parallel XP streams (capture bonuses, reworked missions, dungeon completion XP and passive base crafting) rather than grinding one activity, and to run a +50% EXP boost from four Relaxaurus Effigies the whole way up.
Palworld's endgame moved when 1.0 shipped. If your knowledge of the game is from the 2024 Early Access build, your level cap is wrong, your "max level" guides are wrong, and your idea of where the grind ends is 15 levels short. This guide gives you the current number, what actually changed, how the final 65→80 stretch works, and the fastest legitimate way to get there — verified against the 1.0 patch notes and the live 1.0.5 build.
If the climb to 80 is the part you want to skip, our Palworld leveling service handles it on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, on your own world or a dedicated server.

What is the max level in Palworld?
The maximum player level in Palworld 1.0 is 80. This is confirmed in the official 1.0 patch notes, which state verbatim: "The player level cap has been raised from 65 to 80." The change shipped with the full release on July 10, 2026 and remains in place on the current build, version 1.0.5 (released September 15, 2026 — a texture and map-icon hotfix with no progression changes).
A few hard facts worth getting straight before anyone tells you otherwise:
- 80 is the cap. Once you hit level 80, your player EXP bar stops filling. There is no prestige system, no soft cap you can push past, and no legitimate level 81.
- It was 65 in Early Access. Every "Palworld max level" guide written before July 2026 says 65. Those are stale. If a page still says the cap is 65 (or the original Early Access 50), it has not been updated for 1.0.
- The jump is a real content extension, not a number tweak. The new endgame region, The World Tree, is level 75+ gated, so the extra 15 levels line up with genuinely new content rather than padding.
Your Pals share the same ceiling in a sense: a Pal's level is tied to your progression, and the strongest Pals you fight in the World Tree sit at level 80 too. But raising a player to 80 and making a Pal strong are two different jobs — more on that below.
Why the level cap went from 65 to 80
The cap raise wasn't cosmetic. Palworld's 1.0 update was the biggest in the game's history — roughly 27 pages of patch notes — and Pocketpair deliberately rebuilt the endgame around the new ceiling.
Two new regions arrived with 1.0:
- Sunreach, a sky-island region floating above Palpagos. The official patch text describes it as a "new set of islands [that] has appeared in the skies! Kept aloft by the power of Paldium." It holds its own tower boss (Auri & Shaolong, level 68) and about 20 new Pals.
- The World Tree, the story climax and true endgame. Pocketpair calls it "the key to the story of Palworld... it is here that players will face their greatest challenge yet." It's level 75+ content with radiation zones that require a Gas Mask, and it is the only place to farm Radiant Gems for the new Awakening system.
The final tower boss, Zenara & Astralym, sits at level 80 inside the World Tree's Sealed Sanctum. So the cap, the final region and the final boss were all set to the same number on purpose: 80 is where the campaign actually ends.
1.0 also raised the total Pal count to 287 (47 new Pals plus 25 variants added), and it introduced two systems — Awakening and Mutation — that only matter once you're deep into that 65–80 stretch. The cap raise is the frame those systems hang on.
How player leveling works in Palworld 1.0
Player EXP in Palworld comes from a wide spread of activities, and 1.0 rebalanced almost all of them. The single most important mechanic is the Capture Bonus: catching Pals of a species grants a large one-time EXP reward, and in 1.0 the bonus now completes at 5 catches of a species, down from 12. That one change (quoted directly from the patch notes: "Reduced the number of captures required to complete a Capture Bonus from 12 to 5") is why catching, not killing, is the backbone of fast leveling.
Capture Bonus EXP is scaled to your player level, which creates a useful quirk: low-level species in dense spawn areas are the cheapest EXP in the game, because you can complete their 5-catch bonus in seconds and the payout still scales to you.
Beyond capturing, these are the real player-XP streams in 1.0:
- Missions and sub-missions were reworked with materially better XP. The pass was large enough that existing saves had mission progress reset — check the quest log at every settlement.
- Dungeons and enemy camps now pay a standalone completion reward on top of the capture bonuses inside and the boss EXP. One clear pays three times.
- Tower bosses pay player EXP plus Ancient Technology Points on first clear.
- Passive base crafting ticks EXP to you and your whole party while you're away — the classic setup is a Pal on a continuous arrow-crafting line.
How to reach level 80 fast (the honest route)
There is one unavoidable caveat, so let's put it up front: Palworld's World Settings include an EXP Rate slider that goes up to 20×, and you can change it at any time during play from the "Change World Settings" menu. If you genuinely do not care how you get to 80, turn the slider up and you're done. Everyone else — people who want to level naturally, or who can't touch a shared server's settings — should stack streams instead of grinding one.
The fast, legitimate route to 80:
- Chain-catch dense low-level spawns. Five catches completes a species bonus. Sweep starter-zone spawn clusters early, because the scaled EXP is disproportionate to the effort.
- Clear the quest log at every settlement. The reworked 1.0 missions are the best EXP-per-minute you'll find in the early and mid game.
- Capture, don't kill, Alpha and dungeon bosses. Capturing pays more EXP than killing, and it feeds your condensing stockpile at the same time.
- Run dungeons for the triple payout — capture bonuses + boss EXP + completion reward in one clear.
- Beat tower bosses in level order for EXP and the Ancient Technology Points you'll want near cap.
- Keep a passive-crafting base running on arrows or another cheap recipe so party EXP ticks while you play elsewhere.
- At the top end (65–80), farm the World Tree. Killing wild level-80 Pals in the World Tree and processing high-tier loot is the fastest repeatable raw-XP engine once you're at cap-adjacent levels and can survive there.
A rough bracket route that works (treat it as a route, not the route): 1–15 chain-catch starter species → 15–30 dungeons and syndicate bases → 30–45 tower bosses and Alphas → 45–65 Sakurajima and Feybreak exploration → 65–80 Sunreach and the World Tree.
If you'd rather skip the grind entirely and land at the cap ready for the World Tree, a Palworld leveling boost does exactly the 65→80 stretch for you so you can jump straight into the endgame.

The +50% EXP boost you should set up immediately
The best permanent multiplier in the game is the Relaxaurus Effigy track. In Early Access there was only the Lifmunk Effigy (which boosts capture power). 1.0 split effigies by type, and Relaxaurus Effigies boost EXP gain: there are 4 of them, each worth +12.5% EXP, for +50% total.
You turn them in at a Statue of Power — either one you build, or one found inside an Abandoned Church. Once all four are banked, that +50% applies for the rest of your playthrough, so it's worth grabbing them as early as you can reach their locations (our Palworld effigy locations guide has the exact coordinates for all four). Stacked on top of the capture-chaining and mission route above, it meaningfully shortens the climb to 80.
One important scoping note: the Relaxaurus Effigy +50% is a player EXP track. Don't confuse it with the systems that make an individual Pal stronger — those are separate (see below).
Can you raise the Palworld level cap past 80?
No — not through any legitimate means. The player cap is a hard 80, the XP bar stops there, and Pocketpair has not shipped a higher cap in any patch through 1.0.5. Save editors and mods can push the number, but that's save manipulation, not a game feature, and it carries the usual risks of corrupting your file.
What people often mean when they ask this is "how do I keep getting stronger after 80?" — and that answer is genuinely large, because Palworld moves power-growth onto your Pals once your player level stops. The five permanent upgrade tracks, which all stack:
- Condensing — merge duplicates at a Pal Essence Condenser. Max rank now costs 48 Pals total (down from 116 in Early Access), and gives +20% HP/Atk/Def at 4 stars.
- Pal Souls at the Statue of Power — up to +60% on a chosen stat.
- Stat fruits — Life/Power/Stout Fruit raise a Pal's IVs; importantly, IVs are no longer locked at capture in 1.0, so a bad roll is fixable.
- Awakening — the new World Tree system: 50 Radiant Gems of one element plus Holy Water for a permanent ×1.1 to HP/Atk/Def.
- Mutation — the new breeding roll that produces stronger-than-normal Pals.
So the campaign ends at player level 80, but the grind to a maxed team keeps going well past it.
FAQ
What is the max level in Palworld? The player level cap is 80 in Palworld 1.0 (current build 1.0.5). It was raised from 65 when the game left Early Access on July 10, 2026. Your EXP bar stops filling at 80.
Can you go past level 80 in Palworld? No. 80 is a hard cap with no prestige or soft-cap system; the only way to show a higher number is a save editor or mod, which isn't a legitimate game feature and risks corrupting your save. After 80, power growth shifts entirely to strengthening your Pals through condensing, Pal Souls, stat fruits, Awakening and Mutation.
What level do you need for the World Tree? The World Tree is level 75+ content and the final boss, Zenara & Astralym, is level 80. You'll want to be at or near cap, with Awakened and condensed Pals, before taking it on. Our World Tree preparation checklist covers the full gear and team requirements.
What's the fastest way to level to 80? Stack parallel XP streams instead of grinding one: chain-catch dense low-level spawns (5 catches per species bonus), clear reworked missions, run dungeons for the triple payout, capture (don't kill) bosses, and keep a passive-crafting base running. Set up the four Relaxaurus Effigies at a Statue of Power for a permanent +50% EXP as early as possible.
Does the EXP slider count as reaching max level? Yes — the World Settings EXP Rate slider goes up to 20× and can be changed any time, so you can boost your way to 80. It's the honest shortcut if you don't care about the climb, though it doesn't help on servers where you can't edit settings.
Is the level cap still 65 in Palworld? No. 65 was the Early Access cap. Any guide still listing 65 (or the original 50) is out of date — the 1.0 update raised it to 80.
