Palworld Moon Lord Fight: How to Summon & Beat the Terraria Raid Boss (1.0)

Palworld Moon Lord raid boss fight showing its forehead and hand eye weak points marked with arrows, HP bar and 5-minute timer

Quick answer: To fight the Moon Lord in Palworld you craft a Celestial Sigil from 100 Hallowed Bars and place it on a Summoning Altar. The Sigil's schematic drops from the Eye of Cthulhu inside the Sealed Realm of Terraria, southeast of Fisherman's Point. The Moon Lord has no element and three eye weak points — two on its hands, one on its forehead — and once all three are destroyed its heart opens up in its chest; hit the heart to win. Bring a level-80, Awakened team with storm-type or laser skills, and clear the fight inside the 5-minute timer.

The Moon Lord is the hardest boss the Tides of Terraria crossover added to Palworld, and it is one of the few fights in the game that completely ignores the type chart you have leaned on since hour one. If you walk in expecting to counter it with a Dragon or a Dark Pal, you will waste a 100-Hallowed-Bar Sigil and watch the timer run out. This guide covers the full chain — summon, weak points, team, and loot — fact-checked against the live 1.0 build (currently 1.0.5, patch 1.102.999).

If the climb to 80 is the part you want to skip, our Palworld leveling service handles it on PC, Xbox and PlayStation, on your own world or a dedicated server.

What is the Moon Lord in Palworld?

The Moon Lord is a Raid Boss added in the Tides of Terraria update (the crossover that also brought the Eye of Cthulhu, Hallowed Bars, and Terraria-themed weapons into Palworld). It comes in two flavors: a vanilla version you summon solo at a normal Summoning Altar, and a tougher Master version you unlock after beating the vanilla fight.

A few things make it different from every other boss you have fought:

  • It cannot be captured. Unlike wild Pals and even some Palworld bosses, the Moon Lord is a pure Raid Boss — no Pal Sphere will ever stick. You are here for loot, not a new teammate.
  • It has no elemental type. There is no "super effective" counter. Your Pal's type barely matters; what matters is the shape of its attack (more on that below).
  • It is huge and multi-part. The model has separate hit zones — two hands and a head — and a hidden heart. You cannot just unload on the torso and win.

The on-screen fight shows the boss at Lv 50 with a health pool north of 420,000 HP and the standard 5-minute raid timer. Miss the timer and the boss despawns with your Sigil.

How do you summon the Moon Lord?

Summoning the Moon Lord is a three-part chain. Do it in this order:

1. Build a Summoning Altar. You unlock the Altar's research at Technology Level 32 for 3 Ancient Technology Points, then build it for 100 Stone and 20 Paldium Fragments. Place it in an empty, low-level base — the Moon Lord will wreck anything nearby, so you do not want it spawning next to your breeding farm or your good base Pals.

2. Get the Celestial Sigil Schematic from the Eye of Cthulhu. Head to the Sealed Realm of Terraria, the dungeon on Terraria Island southeast of Fisherman's Point. Inside, defeat (or capture) the Eye of Cthulhu to obtain the Celestial Sigil Schematic, and farm Hallowed Bars from the Pals and breakable pots in the realm — they drop in bulk, so grabbing 100+ is quick.

3. Craft the Sigil and summon. Back at base, use a Production Assembly Line II to turn 100 Hallowed Bars into one Celestial Sigil. Interact with the Summoning Altar, drop the Sigil into the slot, and start the ritual. The Moon Lord spawns in front of you.

The Eye of Cthulhu is a real gate, not a formality — it is its own mini-boss you have to beat before the Moon Lord is even available, which is why it is worth getting your team to full strength first.

Where are the Moon Lord's weak points?

The Moon Lord has three eye weak points:

  • Left hand eye
  • Right hand eye
  • Forehead eye (center of the head)

You can only damage an eye while it is open. All three blink constantly, so you fire in bursts the moment one opens rather than holding a beam on a closed eye and wasting damage. Once all three eyes are destroyed, the Moon Lord's heart is exposed through the opening in its chest — that is your real damage window. Dump everything into the heart and the boss goes down.

Throughout the fight it also spawns floating eyeballs that hover, lock on, and then dart straight at you, plus a tracking forehead laser that follows you around the arena. Keep moving the whole time — standing still to line up a shot is how most first attempts die.

What is the best team to beat the Moon Lord?

Because the boss is typeless, you bring your strongest combat Pals regardless of element — a level-80, max-trust, Awakened, 4-star-Condensed squad is the target. The real lever is the skill shape:

  • Precision kills for the vanilla fight: forward laser/beam skills like Dark Laser and Pal Blast (or weapons like the Plasma Cannon and Charge Rifle) hit the small eye targets cleanly. Aimed single-target attacks beat wide AoE here because the eyes are small and only vulnerable when open.
  • Body-wide skills for speed: storm and twister-type skills — Wind Burst, Thunderstorm, Aqua Tornado, Apocalypse — blanket the boss's huge body and tag multiple weak points at once. This is the fast-clear approach.
  • Master version → overload Grass damage. For the harder Master fight, max out a Grass specialist like Ophydia or Dandilord, equip Wind Burst (it literally covers the entire boss and every weak point), and stack defensive support such as Silvegis. The well-known cheese is 15 fully-powered Dandilords loaded via the Palbox, all running Wind Burst.

As one player who farmed the squad fight put it:

"It's typeless so just bring your hardest hitters — but use skills that cover his whole body like the twister ones, you'll hit all the eyes at once instead of chipping one at a time."

For passives, run the usual endgame stack — Serenity, Diamond Body, Legend, Immortality — and ride a flying mount like Jetragon so you can chase the hands and dodge the laser. These are the same Awakened, max-stat Pals you built for the endgame tower run, so if you have cleared the tower bosses your roster is already most of the way there. Pick the elements and movesets from our best combat Pals tier list, and slot the right passive skills before you commit a Sigil.

Getting a full team to 80, Awakened, and Condensed is the real wall — not the fight itself. If you would rather skip the grind to the endgame roster:

What does the Moon Lord drop?

The vanilla Moon Lord drops a mix of guaranteed crafting materials and rare Terraria gear. Per PalDB's drop tables, the standout rewards are:

  • Celestial Sigil [Master] — 100%. This is what unlocks the harder Master fight, so you always get your next step.
  • Legendary Meowmere — 22%. The meme sword, and a genuinely strong legendary weapon.
  • Moon Lord Mask — 10%. A cosmetic trophy from the fight.
  • Ancient Civilization Core ×4–6 and Training Crystal ×4 — 100%. Core endgame upgrade materials.
  • Terra Blade / Vortex Beater / Nightglow / Terraprisma schematics — 25% each. The Terraria weapon blueprints.
  • Life / Power / Stout Fruit — 33.3% each.

The Master version ups the ante: tier-4 Terraria weapon schematics, a guaranteed Moon Lord Statue Schematic, multiple Lotus (L) stat items, Diamonds, and bulk Ancient Civilization Parts. If you want the best Terraria weapons and the trophy statue, the Master fight is where you farm — but only after your team can reliably clear vanilla.

If you do not get the Meowmere or Mask on your first kill, just craft another Celestial Sigil (another 100 Hallowed Bars) and run it again. The drops are rolled per kill, so repeated runs are the intended path to the rare loot.

FAQ

Can you capture the Moon Lord in Palworld? No. The Moon Lord is a Raid Boss, and Raid Bosses cannot be captured with any Pal Sphere. You fight it purely for the loot. (The Eye of Cthulhu in the Sealed Realm can be captured, but the Moon Lord itself cannot.)

What level should you be to fight the Moon Lord? It is an endgame fight. The boss shows as Lv 50 in the HUD, but it has over 420,000 HP and a 5-minute timer, so you want a level-80, Awakened, Condensed team to clear it comfortably. Hitting the current level cap of 80 and Awakening your Pals with Radiant Gems is the realistic prerequisite.

How many Hallowed Bars do you need for the Moon Lord? You need 100 Hallowed Bars to craft one Celestial Sigil, and each Sigil summons the boss once. Hallowed Bars farm quickly inside the Sealed Realm of Terraria, so stock extra if you plan to re-run the fight for drops.

What element is the Moon Lord weak to? None. The Moon Lord is typeless and has no elemental weakness, so bring your highest-damage Pals regardless of type. The thing that actually matters is using skills that hit its eye weak points — precise lasers for aimed damage, or body-wide storm skills like Wind Burst to tag all three eyes at once.

Is the Moon Lord the hardest boss in Palworld? The Master Moon Lord is one of the toughest fights in the game, harder than the standard tower bosses. The vanilla version is beatable by a solid level-80 endgame team, but Master requires maxed, Awakened Pals and a focused strategy (overloading Grass damage with Wind Burst).

Bottom line

The Moon Lord fight is really two challenges: the summon chain (beat the Eye of Cthulhu, farm 100 Hallowed Bars, craft the Celestial Sigil) and the fight itself (destroy three blinking eyes, then the heart, inside 5 minutes with a typeless, skill-shape-first team). Nail those and you walk away with the Legendary Meowmere, the Terraria weapon schematics, and the Master Sigil for the real endgame farm. The hard part is almost never the mechanics — it is having a level-80 Awakened squad ready to deal 420k damage before the timer runs out.
