Quick answer: is Legion worth farming in PoE 3.29?
Yes. The 3.29 rework turned Legion into one of the strongest, most reliable mapping farms in the league, and it does not need a Voyage or a chart to work — it drops straight into your normal maps. The fast version:
- The farm: run 8-mod Tier 16 Dunes with a base Legion Scarab, 3× Legion Scarab of Treasures, and 1× Legion Scarab of Eternal Conflict. Break the monoliths, kill everything before it re-freezes, sell the loot on the Currency Exchange.
- Why it prints now: the Eternal Conflict scarab keeps monsters "in stasis" until the end, so the Treasures scarab reliably splashes chest rewards across dozens of monsters — that is the whole engine.
- What changed in 3.29: Legion rewards are now genuinely Legion's own (fewer Splinters but bigger stacks, a new Enshrouding Crystal currency, a dedicated Unique-Armour upgrade path), and breaking out the majority of frozen monsters is enough to trigger the fight.
- Commercial reality: Legion pays out in raw Divine Orbs, Stacked Decks, Scarabs and Emblems — the highest-liquidity drops in the game. If you'd rather skip the grind, you can buy PoE currency with instant delivery.
Maxroll rates the Eternal Conflict strategy Above Average difficulty, Average investment, Great profitability, and High management (Maxroll, updated for 3.29.1). Translation: it's a clear-speed farm — bring a build that can delete a screen, not a slow tank.
How does Legion work in Path of Exile?
If you have not touched Legion in a few leagues, here is the core loop — none of this changed structurally in 3.29.
You find a Timeless Monolith in a map (a big glowing crystal with an army frozen around it). Click it and the surrounding monsters freeze in stasis. You have a short timer to hit each frozen monster to "break it out," and it must be killed before it re-freezes. Anything you break out and kill drops loot; anything you don't break out vanishes when the timer ends. That tension — break out as many as you can, then kill them fast — is the entire skill test, and it's why Legion rewards high-clear, high-burst builds.
Each Monolith spawns two factions drawn from the five Legions: the Eternal Empire, the Templars, the Karui, the Maraketh, and the Vaal (staysaneexile). Each faction drops its own Timeless Splinters, and per the official page, "Enemies from each of the five Legions drop Splinters which combine together to form an Emblem of that Legion" (pathofexile.com/legion). 100 Splinters of one type = 1 Timeless Emblem (PoE Wiki).
Emblems are the endgame of the mechanic. Place two or more Emblems from different Legions in your Map Device and you open the Domain of Timeless Conflict — a standalone arena where all the armies fight each other and you farm the chaos. Stack all five for the famous "5-way" and you get one of the densest XP-and-loot events in the game. Each faction also feeds a Timeless Jewel — Elegant Hubris (Eternal Empire), Militant Faith (Templar), Lethal Pride (Karui), Brutal Restraint (Maraketh) and Glorious Vanity (Vaal) — which are chase items in their own right.
What did the 3.29 Legion rework actually change?
GGG's stated goal for the rework was to give Legion rewards that feel uniquely its own. Historically only Incubators and Timeless Jewels were truly "Legion's" — everything else overlapped with drops you'd get anywhere. Here is what shipped in 3.29:
- Triggering is easier. Breaking out key monsters, chests, and now the majority of regular frozen monsters is enough to start the fight. It used to be more restrictive and gated behind specific monster types.
- Fewer Splinters, bigger stacks. Legion monsters drop fewer Splinters overall but in larger stack sizes, cutting inventory clutter and the trade-noise of dumping tiny stacks on the market.
- Unrelenting Timeless Emblems removed. That redundant Emblem tier is gone; its effects were folded into the regular Timeless Emblems, simplifying the structure.
- Enshrouding Crystals — a brand-new currency. Legion Generals now have a chance to drop them. You use an Enshrouding Crystal on a Unique Armour to make it "Enshrouded" (temporarily unequippable), then take it to a new zone — the Domain of Timeless Conflict — and fight through to transform it into an upgraded version.
That last point is the big one: it gives Legion its own dedicated upgrade path for Unique Armours that exists nowhere else in the game — exactly the "exclusive identity" GGG chased with both the Legion and Abyss reworks this league. (For the parallel overhaul on the other reworked league mechanic, see our PoE 3.29 Abyss farming guide.)
None of this breaks the classic farm — it makes it richer. Which brings us to the money.
The best PoE 3.29 Legion farming setup (Eternal Conflict)
This is the mid-investment mapping strategy the top guide writers converged on for 3.29. As Maxroll puts it, the strategy "primarily utilizes the Legion Scarab of Eternal Conflict and the Legion Scarab of Treasures to spread lucrative loot tile rewards to dozens of Legion monsters in every monolith" (Maxroll).
Map: an 8-mod Tier 16 Dunes. Dunes is the pick because its open layout makes Legion encounters easy to find and gives the army room to spawn the whole encounter — cramped layouts choke the fight and cost you rewards.
Scarabs (5 slots):
- 1× Legion Scarab (base — guarantees the encounter)
- 3× Legion Scarab of Treasures
- 1× Legion Scarab of Eternal Conflict
Why this combination is the engine: the Legion Scarab of Treasures gives Legion chests a 20% chance to spread their rewards to the monsters released from stasis — turning one chest's loot into dozens of loot-dropping monsters. The catch is it only works if you don't break the surrounding monsters out before you break the chest. The Legion Scarab of Eternal Conflict solves that: it keeps those surrounding mobs from ever being truly broken out until the very end, so the Treasures effect applies consistently every single monolith (Maxroll).
Eldritch influence: apply Eater of Worlds. It is the best influence for any Legion farm because it boosts % Increased Quantity of Items Found and Currency Duplication altars, and Legion still drops plenty of ground loot on top of the tiles. Of the two Eater keystones, Wrath of the Cosmos (spawn an additional altar modifier 50% of the time) is the more consistent pick; Eldritch Gaze (altar modifiers 50% higher value) raises the ceiling if you gamble on blue altars.
Astrolabe: the setup runs the Timeless Astrolabe to add an extra Legion encounter per map, with the Synthesised Stability Atlas node allocated so you never hunt for specific Astrolabe mods — you just keep running Dunes.
In the map: clear normally, complete every Legion encounter you find, open Smugglers Caches, and pop good Eldritch Altars. Do not over-clear a monolith — chests can only spread their rewards once, so once you've broken the chest and killed the spread, move on. Time efficiency beats squeezing a dry monolith.

What does Legion drop, and how do I turn it into currency?
Legion is a raw-currency-and-liquid-loot farm, which is exactly why it's good for funding a build fast. Expect:
- Raw Divine Orbs and Stacked Decks off the loot tiles and reward monsters
- Scarabs (including more Legion Scarabs to reinvest — the farm partly funds itself)
- Timeless Splinters → Emblems, which sell best in full sets on the Currency Exchange
- Enshrouding Crystals and the Unique Armours to sink them into (new 3.29 demand)
- Incubators, gems, and the occasional Timeless Jewel
Everything here is high-liquidity — you're not stuck alt-tabbing to price obscure rares. Most of it moves instantly through the Currency Exchange, which is the point: fast in, fast out, re-buy scarabs, run the next batch. Because Legion prints Divine Orbs directly, it's one of the cleanest ways to build a currency stack without touching the league mechanic at all. If you need Divines now to hit a build breakpoint, you can buy PoE Divine Orbs with instant delivery instead of grinding the batch.
Pro tip from the guide: buy enough scarabs to run a sizable batch of maps before you start. Stopping every few maps to re-buy supplies kills your rhythm and makes selling drops harder (Maxroll).
Where does Legion sit among 3.29's farms?
Legion is now a top-tier mapping farm — it layers onto content you're already running and asks only that your build clears fast. That makes it a natural pair with, not a replacement for, the league's own money loop. If you want the full ranking of what's printing this league, start with our best currency farming strategies in PoE 3.29 hub, then branch into the Charts & Voyages currency guide for the Curse of the Allflame mechanic itself and the Expedition farming guide for the most reliable low-skill-floor lane. Many players run a Legion + one other mechanic per map — the strategy scales cleanly with a second overlay.
One more note if you're gearing for the farm: the 3.29 socket-colour overhaul changed how you link your clear-speed six-link, so if you're still fighting Chromatic Orbs the old way, read the 3.29 socket colours explainer first — it's genuinely cheaper to colour a build now.

FAQ
Is Legion worth farming in PoE 3.29? Yes. The 3.29 rework made Legion rewards uniquely its own and it's now considered one of the strongest mapping farms in the league, printing raw Divine Orbs, Stacked Decks and Scarabs. It's a clear-speed strategy, so it rewards fast builds more than tanky ones. Maxroll rates the Eternal Conflict version "Great" profitability at only "Average" investment.
What is the best Legion scarab setup in 3.29? On an 8-mod Tier 16 Dunes map, run one base Legion Scarab, three Legion Scarabs of Treasures, and one Legion Scarab of Eternal Conflict. Treasures gives chests a 20% chance to spread rewards to released monsters; Eternal Conflict keeps those monsters in stasis so the spread lands reliably. Apply Eater of Worlds influence with the Wrath of the Cosmos keystone.
Why Dunes for Legion farming? Dunes has a wide, open layout, which makes Legion encounters easy to find and gives the army room to spawn the entire encounter. Cramped or corridor maps choke the fight and cost you broken-out monsters, which is lost loot.
How many Splinters make a Timeless Emblem? 100 Splinters of a single Legion combine into one Timeless Emblem of that Legion. Each Monolith spawns two of the five factions — Eternal Empire, Templars, Karui, Maraketh and Vaal — so you accumulate different Splinter types as you farm. Sell finished Emblems in full sets on the Currency Exchange for the best price.
What are Enshrouding Crystals in 3.29? A new currency added in the 3.29 Legion rework. Legion Generals can drop them, and you use one on a Unique Armour to make it "Enshrouded." You then clear the Domain of Timeless Conflict with the Enshrouded item to transform it into an upgraded version — a Unique-Armour upgrade path that exists nowhere else in the game.
How do I open the Domain of Timeless Conflict? Place two or more Timeless Emblems from different Legions into your Map Device. This opens portals to the Domain, where the armies fight each other. Using all five Emblems creates the "5-way," one of the densest XP and loot events in Path of Exile.
Do I need the Curse of the Allflame league mechanic to farm Legion? No. Legion drops into your normal maps and works entirely independently of Charts and Voyages. That's part of why it's so popular this league — it stacks on top of whatever else you're already running for extra, high-liquidity income.
