How to Farm Currency in PoE 3.29: Charts & Voyages Guide (Curse of the Allflame)

Updated for Patch 3.29.2 (Curse of the Allflame), verified 6 August 2026. GGG shipped 3.29 on 24 July 2026, followed by 3.29.1 (31 July) and 3.29.2 (5 August). Every farming detail below is checked against the live patch notes on pathofexile.com and maxroll.gg. Currency prices float weekly, so this guide gives you the methods and ratios — always verify the live exchange rate on poe.ninja before you buy or sell.

Quick answer: the fastest way to farm currency in PoE 3.29

The Curse of the Allflame league mechanic is the single best currency farm in 3.29 right now. You find Lost Charts inside your maps, take them to The Sovereign (Valerie's ship), and descend in the Bathysphere to loot seafloor areas. Combine 9 completed Charts into a Voyage — a huge, heavily-modified undersea zone where the real money is made. Charts give fast, steady currency; Voyages give the big paydays (Scarabs, Ducats, gold, and chest loot that ships back to the surface). If you don't want to build a currency stockpile the slow way, you can buy Path of Exile currency directly and skip straight to the gear-and-bosses part of the league.

This guide covers exactly how the loop works, how the 3.29.1 and 3.29.2 patches made it far more profitable, and the three best non-league farms to fall back on when you want variety.

What is the Curse of the Allflame money loop?

Curse of the Allflame is built around three connected pieces of content, and understanding the flow is the whole game:

  • In-map encounters — Lost Charts spawn guarded by monsters inside your normal maps. Kill the guardians, grab the Chart.
  • Charts — take a Chart to The Sovereign and descend into a self-contained seafloor area. These are your quick, repeatable currency runs.
  • Voyages — once you've banked enough Charts, you link 9 of them together into a single Voyage: one long, chained expedition where modifiers from every Chart and the adjacency bonuses all stack. This is the high-end, high-reward version of the loop.

The twist is oxygen. On the seafloor you are drowning by default. You place Allflame Lanterns that create green-ringed oxygen zones — inside the ring you move freely; step outside it and you drown in roughly five seconds. You get up to seven lanterns per descent, and once all seven are down they start to flicker and fade, which is the timer telling you to sprint back to the Bathysphere before the lights go out. That tension is the whole hook, and it's also why movement speed matters more here than in a standard map.

One farming tip surfaced on r/PathOfExileBuilds this week: build a "heist-like" character with high movement speed for Voyages, so you can scout ahead for Deep Altars and high-value chests first, then commit your clear time to the zones that actually pay.

Loot you find down there — chests, Scarabs, Dead Man's Sulphur, gold, and Ducats — is shipped up to the surface and collected from The Sovereign after the run. Nothing is lost when your lanterns die, as long as you've already tagged the loot.

How do Charts work, and how much currency do they make?

Charts are your bread-and-butter. Each one is a short seafloor area you can clear in a couple of minutes once you have the movement-speed and lantern rhythm down. The key economic facts for 3.29:

  • Charts are repeatable. You can re-run a Chart for its rewards again and juice those rewards, so a good Chart layout is a renewable asset, not a one-shot.
  • Operative, Diviner and Arcanist Strongboxes now spawn by default in Charts and Voyages above area level 67 — you no longer have to collect upgrade pieces for Vesper to enable them. Strongbox runs are one of the most consistent currency strategies in the league because the drops are predictable.
  • Currency, Scarab, Stacked Deck and Map chests were made much more common as scattered objects, while low-value clutter (soothing coral, crab nests) was cut back so your Allflame Lanterns point at loot that's actually worth grabbing.

For a fresh-league catch-up, the simplest reliable Chart loop is: run maps → collect Charts → descend, prioritise Strongboxes and currency chests → bank the loot → repeat. It scales with your character with almost no upfront investment, which is why it's the recommended starting farm this league.

How do Voyages work, and why are they where the real money is?

A Voyage is nine Charts fused into one massive area, and it is the most profitable single activity in Curse of the Allflame. Because every Chart's modifiers and the board-adjacency bonuses apply to the whole Voyage, you can deliberately stack reward types instead of leaving them to chance.

The optimisation loop that separates an average Voyage from a great one:

  • Plan the board, don't place Charts randomly. Combine Chart implicits, border modifiers and adjacency effects so your reward types compound. 3.29.2 even doubled the size of the Charted Charts inventory shown in the Voyage Planning UI, so you have more room to line up the perfect run.
  • Hunt Deep Altars. Making an Offering at a Deep Altar grants a Blessing that can convert common currency into rarer currency — a direct wealth multiplier — and the Blessing now applies to all nearby players. This is one of the highest-leverage things you can do inside a Voyage (see the exact numbers in the next section).
  • Golden Lanterns feed your Mercenaries. Permanently-hired Mercenaries now gain quantity and rarity buffs from the Golden Lanterns you collect in Charts and Voyages, so a Voyage-farming character and a Mercenary build reinforce each other.

Community consensus two weeks in is blunt: Charts pay the bills, Voyages fund the league. If you're optimising for currency per hour, the answer is to convert Charts into Voyages as fast as you can sustain them.

Which 3.29.1 and 3.29.2 changes made Allflame farming better?

The two post-launch patches turned Curse of the Allflame from "good" into a genuine contender for the most profitable mechanic of the league. The changes that matter for your wallet:

ChangePatchWhy it matters
Chart trade-market Gold fee "greatly lowered"3.29.1Buying the Charts you need is now cheap, so "buy Charts, run Voyages" is a real strategy
Deep Altar Blessings convert common → rarer currency3.29.1A direct wealth multiplier applied to all nearby players
Deep Altar conversion chance raised from 4% to 10%3.29.2More than doubles the payout of every Altar Offering you make
Charted Charts inventory doubled in the Voyage UI3.29.2Easier to line up an optimal 9-Chart Voyage
Dredged currency items work on Strongboxes and Essences3.29.1Opens up new juicing lines for your seafloor loot
New chests: Sunken Opulence and Sunken Gems3.29.1Extra high-value drop sources scattered through Charts/Voyages

The 3.29.2 patch note spells the Altar change out directly:

"Blessings granted by Offerings to the Deep Altars now grant a 10% chance for certain common currencies to be converted to rarer currencies (from 4%)." — Path of Exile 3.29.2 Patch Notes, 5 August 2026

If you set up your Deep Altar Offerings before that patch, re-do the maths — the conversion odds have more than doubled.

What are the best non-league currency farms in 3.29?

The league mechanic is the top earner, but variety keeps you from burning out, and some of these are more AFK-friendly. The three strongest alternatives, all verified for 3.29:

  • Kalguur Ore / King's March shipping — one of the strongest all-round strategies. Kalguur Ore Deposits + Mercenaries + Delve + shipping produces a steady stream of Divine Orbs, Tattoos, Bars and Fossils, and generates enough Gold to self-fund the settlement. It's the best "set it up and let it compound" lane.
  • Expedition (Tujen) — took only minor QoL changes in 3.29 with no core nerfs. It's still elite because Tujen converts artifacts straight into raw currency with no crafting or trading step. Lowest skill floor, most reliable payout — the safest recommendation for a new or returning player.
  • Abyss — buffed hard in 3.29.1: Lich bosses lost their immunity phases (though they gained +25% life), three reward chests now drop on a boss kill, and chest currency/Scarab drops were improved. Abyss Scarab prices have climbed as players chase it, so it's the rising "gamble lane" of the patch.

Steady filler lanes — Essences, Divination Cards and Legion (reworked and safe for early league) — round things out. Whatever you run, the goal is the same: turn map time into Chaos and Divine Orbs.

How do I turn farmed loot into Divine Orbs?

Everything you pull from Charts, Voyages and the farms above eventually gets priced in orbs, because Path of Exile has no gold for trade — the entire economy is orb-based barter. The Divine Orb is the premier high-value trade currency (it rerolls the numeric values of an item's modifiers), and the Chaos Orb is the workhorse that rerolls all modifiers on a rare. You sell Scarabs, Ducat-crafted items, unique drops and bulk currency on the trade site and convert up into Divines as your stockpile grows.

Because prices inflate through a league as currency floods the market, never anchor to a fixed exchange number — check the live rate on poe.ninja before every big trade. And if you'd rather spend your play time pushing bosses than grinding the exchange, timesaver.gg delivers Path of Exile Divine and Chaos Orbs at the current best rate, or a full boosting and boss-carry service if you want the pinnacle kills without the farm.

FAQ

What is the best currency farm in PoE 3.29? The Curse of the Allflame league mechanic itself. Charts give fast, steady currency and Voyages give the big paydays — most players two weeks into the league rate it a top contender for the most profitable mechanic of 3.29. Kalguur Ore shipping and Expedition (Tujen) are the strongest non-league alternatives.

How many Charts do I need to start a Voyage? Nine. You link nine completed Charts together into a single Voyage, and the modifiers from every Chart plus the board-adjacency bonuses all apply to that one large area, which is why Voyages are far more rewarding than running Charts individually.

Why am I drowning on the seafloor? You drown by default on the seafloor — that's the intended mechanic. You place Allflame Lanterns (up to seven per descent) that create green oxygen rings; stay inside a ring and you're fine, step outside and you drown in about five seconds. When all seven lanterns start to flicker, that's your cue to head back to the Bathysphere.

Did the 3.29.2 patch change currency farming? Yes. The biggest change is that Deep Altar Blessings now convert common currency into rarer currency with a 10% chance, up from 4%, which more than doubles the value of every Altar Offering. It also doubled the Charted Charts inventory in the Voyage Planning UI, making it easier to build an optimal Voyage.

Do I need an expensive character to farm Charts and Voyages? No. Chart farming scales with almost any character and needs little upfront investment, which makes it the best league-start and catch-up currency loop. Movement speed matters more than raw damage for Voyages, since scouting for Deep Altars and high-value chests before your lanterns fade is where the profit comes from.

How much is a Divine Orb worth in 3.29? It floats — Divine Orb prices inflate steadily through a league as currency enters the economy, so any static number is wrong within days. Always check the current rate on poe.ninja before you buy or sell, and price your loot against the live exchange rather than an old guide.
