Fastest Way to Level to 100 in PoE (3.29 XP Guide)

Last verified October 30, 2026. Applies to Path of Exile 3.29 "Curse of the Allflame" (latest patch 3.29.3b). The league ends at 1 PM PST on November 9 and 3.30 launches November 13 (PST); the XP formula below has not changed in years, but re-check the farm strategies against the 3.30 patch notes.

The fastest way to level to 100 in Path of Exile 3.29 is to stop dying and kill as many monsters per minute as your build allows, in high-tier maps juiced with Abyss and Beyond. The rest of this guide covers the specific farm, the scarabs, and the XP maths that explain why levels 95 to 100 eat about 85% of all the time from 90 to 100.

Quick answer: what is the fastest way to level to 100 in PoE?

TL;DR — level 100 in PoE 3.29:

  • Best XP farm right now: Tier 16 maps with a full Abyss + Beyond Atlas tree, Searing Exarch altars, 3× Abyss Scarab + 2× Abyss Scarab of Multitudes, and a layer of Delirium. One community test on City Square reported roughly 120M XP per hour at level 99.
  • Richer alternative: Breach + Beyond. About a quarter less XP per hour, but more currency and valuable drops.
  • The rule that matters most: a death in maps costs 10% of the XP needed for your next level. At level 99 that is about 31.8 million XP.
  • The maths: level 90 is only 45.5% of the total XP to 100. The jump from 99 to 100 alone is 317.5 million XP.
  • No time before the league ends? Power leveling can take you to any level from 1 to 100.

How much XP does it take to reach level 100?

Reaching level 100 takes 4,250,334,444 total experience, according to the poedb experience table.:

MilestoneTotal XPShare of XP to 100
Level 80855,129,12820.1%
Level 901,934,009,68745.5%
Level 952,876,116,90167.7%
Level 993,932,818,53092.5%
Level 1004,250,334,444100%

The level 99 to 100 step alone is 317,515,914 XP, which is more experience than a character earns going from level 1 to 68. And raw XP is only half the problem. Past level 95, an extra penalty also cuts how much XP each monster gives you.

Why do levels 95 to 100 take so long?

Path of Exile reduces your experience when the monsters are too far below your level. There is a "safe zone" with no penalty, equal to 3 levels plus 1 for every 16 character levels, per poedb. Two more rules make it much worse at the top:

  • High-level areas count as lower level for XP. Any area above monster level 70 has a lower effective level for this calculation. A Tier 16 map (monster level 83) only counts as about level 77.5.
  • Level 95+ gets its own extra penalty. Starting at level 95, an extra multiplier (1.065 at 95, rising to 1.4 at 99) is applied on top of the normal penalty.

Together those rules mean that near max level it is impossible to play with no experience penalty. poedb's worked example on Tier 10 maps shows how fast your gains shrink:

  • A level 94 character gets about 9.6% of a monster's raw XP. At level 99 it gets 2.5%, so the same maps take about 3.8 times longer to give the same XP.
  • Measured from level 90, 99 to 100 is 30.7% of all the time you spend getting from 90 to 100. You are only about halfway there in time once you hit level 98.

That is why "how long does 90 to 100 take" has no single answer. It depends on two numbers: XP per hour, and how often you die.

What is the best XP farm in PoE 3.29?

Two farms lead 3.29 leveling: Abyss + Beyond for raw XP, and Breach + Beyond for XP plus profit. Both rely on the same thing: filling each map with as many rare and magic monsters as possible, then killing them fast.

The Abyss + Beyond XP farm (fastest)

Abyss became a serious XP farm in 3.29. The 3.29.0 notes raised the limit: "The base Abyss Scarab now has a limit of 5 from 2," and extra Abyss modifiers on a map that already has one "will instead add two additional pits." Patch 3.29.1 then made the rewards worth it. The 3.29.1 notes say: "After killing a boss in an Abyssal Depths there are now 3 chests granting a variety of valuable rewards," and Abyss chest rewards were raised, "particularly those that drop Currency and Scarabs." Lich bosses also lost their immunity phases.

The setup players run:

  • Map: Tier 16 maps with eight modifiers. City Square is the favourite because the Abyss runs around the edges of an open, square layout.
  • Atlas tree: a full Abyss investment, plus Beyond, plus Searing Exarch altars. Players pick Exarch altars over Eater of Worlds because their monsters spawn right away, so you don't wait for packs.
  • Scarabs: 3× Abyss Scarab (poedb: "Area contains an additional Abyss") and 2× Abyss Scarab of Multitudes ("Abyss Chasms in Area spawn 100% increased Monsters per fed Soul", limit two per map).
  • Delirium: one Delirium Orb for an extra layer of monster density.
  • Loop: follow the Abyss around the map, open every pit, clear the final encounter, leave, and run the next map. Don't stop to play the full map.

One reply in an r/pathofexile alt-levelling thread described the same setup: "just do full Abyss+beyond atlas layout on high-tier map with 1 deli orb and 3x abyss+2x Abyss multitudes scarabs. It works extremely good until like 98." One community test from August, reported on several trading-site guides, averaged about 121 million XP per hour from 99 to 100 over 76 maps, with individual hours ranging from roughly 65M to 200M. The same test put the Breach setup near 90 million. Your own number will be lower unless your build clears like a dedicated speed-farmer.

For the full Abyss mechanic, rewards and Atlas notes, see our PoE 3.29 Abyss farming guide.

The Breach + Beyond farm (XP plus profit)

Breach was the standard level 100 farm until the Abyss setup overtook it, and it still works. You'll take more time per map, since you stay to clear several Breach waves, but the drops are worth far more. If you want to make currency while you level, it's the better pick. Our PoE 3.29 Breach farming guide covers the scarabs and Atlas nodes.

Delirium and Simulacrum

Delirium is the third density option. The Mirror of Delirium fills the map with extra monsters, and you can stack up to five Delirium Orbs on one map. It's great XP when your build can handle it, but deadly when it can't. Treat it as a layer on top of Abyss or Breach, not the main farm, unless you have a strong build. The Delirium and Simulacrum guide covers the orbs.

How much does dying slow down leveling to 100?

Dying is the single biggest factor in the 95–100 range. Per poedb, the death penalty in default leagues is:

Where you dieXP lost
Acts 1–5, Normal Labyrinth0%
Acts 6–10, Cruel/Merciless Labyrinth5%
Anything opened from the map device, Eternal Labyrinth10%

The loss is a percentage of the XP needed for your next level, and you can never lose a level. At level 99, one death costs about 31.8 million XP. At around 120M XP per hour, that is roughly 16 minutes of perfect farming lost. Three deaths cost about 48 minutes, most of an hour.

One reply in an r/pathofexile "my first level 100" thread put it plainly: at level 96 and up, "not dying saves more time than any experience gear or strat you have."

Charts and Voyages used to be a loophole, but not anymore. The 3.29.1 patch notes say GGG "fixed a bug which caused the player to never lose experience on death in Charts or Voyages. You will now lose experience on death as appropriate for the area of the level of the Chart or Voyage you are in on death."

How to stop dying while you push 100

  • Reroll dangerous maps. Players filter out deadly mod combinations, such as reduced maximum resistances with extra physical damage, or anything that adds critical strike damage. A map-tab search string from a tool such as poe.re lets you reroll maps until they're safe.
  • Carry an Omen of Amelioration. Per poedb, it "Will be Consumed when you Die to prevent 75% of Experience loss." You can only consume one Omen per combat area. Stock several before you start pushing 99.
  • Fix your weakest defence first. Capped resistances, a decent max hit, and freeze immunity matter more than DPS above 95. Our Uber boss DPS and defence benchmarks cover the same layers.
  • Skip bosses and side content that your build can't clear comfortably. The XP is in the monster packs.

How do you level a second character fast in PoE?

Alt characters don't need the endgame XP farm right away. Here is a faster path that players repeat every league:

  • Twink the campaign. Hand the alt your old leveling uniques and gems. Our PoE leveling guide covers the campaign route.
  • Bridge to maps. If the alt isn't strong enough for maps after Act 10, players farm two compact zones: the Blood Aqueduct in Act 9 and the Ossuary in Act 10.
  • Run the highest tier you can clear safely. The most common advice is to run maps as high as your gear allows. If you stay within about six or seven levels of the map, you lose little to the XP penalty.
  • Use Delve before 90 if you like it. Some players level alts by Delving at a depth that matches their level. You don't need to prepare any maps, and monsters keep spawning along the Crawler's path.
  • Turn on Abyss + Beyond once the alt can handle it. Your Atlas passive tree is shared by every character on your account in the same league, so the farm above works on any of them.

One warning from the same alt-levelling thread: Legion five-way carries only make sense once you're in your low 70s. A buyer in their mid-60s gained far less from the same run than a buyer in their mid-70s.

Is it worth pushing level 100 before 3.29 ends?

Only if you can do it safely.

A Level 100 Luminary in Hardcore Curse of the Allflame with 40/40 challenges

The 3.29 Challenge League ends at 1 PM PST on November 9, 2026. After that your character, its level, and its items move to Standard (Hardcore characters move to Hardcore), as covered in what happens when a league ends. A level 100 character in Standard is still level 100. You don't lose anything, but everyone starts fresh in 3.30 on November 13.

A simple rule:

  • At level 97 or 98 with a stable build: go for it. You have about ten days, and the Abyss farm can close the gap.
  • At 94 or below with deaths in your history: by poedb's Tier 10 model, about 90% of the time from 90 to 100 is still ahead of you. Spend the time on currency or challenges instead.
  • Want the flex without the grind? That's the main reason people buy power leveling: a booster plays the dangerous levels so you don't lose hours to a death at 99.

Need level 100 before the league ends?

No time for the 95–100 grind? The timesaver.gg Path of Exile team handles power leveling to any level, plus the currency for the gear that keeps you alive in juiced maps.

FAQ

What is the fastest way to level to 100 in PoE 3.29? Run Tier 16 maps with a full Abyss + Beyond Atlas tree, Searing Exarch altars, 3× Abyss Scarab plus 2× Abyss Scarab of Multitudes, and one Delirium Orb. Clear the Abyss and leave. One community test reported about 120M XP per hour at level 99. Then avoid dying, which matters more than any tweak to the setup.

How long does it take to get from 99 to 100 in PoE? Level 99 to 100 needs 317,515,914 XP. At around 120M XP per hour with no deaths, that is roughly two and a half to three hours of fast farming. Most players take far longer, because each death at 99 costs about 31.8M XP and the average build clears much slower than a speed-farmer.

How much XP do you lose when you die in maps? You lose 10% of the XP needed for your next level in any area opened from the map device, per poedb. You can never drop a level. An Omen of Amelioration prevents 75% of that loss, and since patch 3.29.1, deaths in Charts and Voyages cost XP too.

Is level 100 worth it in PoE? Mostly as a personal milestone. The few extra passive points don't change a build much, and by poedb's model levels 95 to 100 take about 85% of the time from 90 to 100. Push it when your build is safe enough that you rarely die.

What map tier should I run to level from 90 to 100? Usually the highest tier you can clear quickly and safely. poedb's maths shows that at level 99, a Tier 15 map gives about twice the XP multiplier of a Tier 8. But a lower tier wins if you can clear it more than twice as fast. Speed and safety decide it, not the tier number.

Does level 100 carry over when the league ends? Yes. When 3.29 ends on November 9 (1 PM PST), the character moves to Standard (or Hardcore, for Hardcore league characters) with its level and items. The new 3.30 league on November 13 starts every character from level 1.
