Last verified October 27, 2026. Applies to Path of Exile 3.29 "Curse of the Allflame" (latest patch 3.29.3b). The 3.30 expansion launches November 13 (PST); re-check these numbers against the 3.30 patch notes, since GGG can retune pinnacle bosses in any league.
Most players need about 3 million DPS on Path of Building's "Uber Pinnacle Boss" setting before Uber bosses feel doable. That is roughly 10 million DPS on the normal "Guardian/Pinnacle Boss" setting. The gap between the two numbers is the single most misunderstood part of this question: every Uber arena makes monsters take 70% less damage, and PoB only applies that penalty when you pick the Uber preset. This guide explains the conversion, gives the community benchmarks for "bare minimum", "comfortable" and "fast", and covers the defences each Uber actually checks. Low DPS is rarely what kills an Uber attempt. Dying is.

Path of Exile - Boss Kills
Get any pinnacle boss killed
Quick answer: how much DPS do you need for Ubers in PoE?
TL;DR — Uber boss DPS targets in PoE 3.29 (community benchmarks, not official GGG numbers):
- Bare minimum: ~3M DPS on PoB's Uber Pinnacle Boss preset (≈10M on the Guardian/Pinnacle Boss preset). Fights are long and punishing.
- Comfortable: ~3–6M Uber-preset DPS (≈10–20M Pinnacle-preset). Most Ubers end in a few minutes.
- Phase-skipping: 30M+ Pinnacle-preset DPS starts deleting phases before their mechanics fire.
- The rule that matters more: Ubers check your max hit, capped resistances, Spell Suppression (for evasion builds) and freeze immunity. A tanky build at 3M Uber DPS beats a glass cannon at 10M.
GGG has never published a DPS requirement for any boss. Everything below comes from Path of Building's own boss presets, Maxroll's Uber guides, and the numbers the r/PathOfExileBuilds community has repeated for several leagues.
Why does my Uber DPS look so much lower in Path of Building?
Because PoB's "Is the enemy a Boss?" option (Configuration tab) changes the target you're hitting. Per the Path of Building Community source code, it has four settings:
| PoB "Is the enemy a Boss?" setting | Enemy elemental res | Enemy chaos res | Extra effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| No | — | — | — |
| Standard Boss | 40% | 25% | — |
| Guardian/Pinnacle Boss (default) | 50% | 30% | Pinnacle armour/evasion, level 84 |
| Uber Pinnacle Boss | 50% | 30% | 70% less damage taken, level 85 |
The Uber preset's tooltip spells it out: "70% less to enemy Damage taken." That matches the area modifier in the real fight. Maxroll's Uber Maven guide lists a "70% less Damage taken Area modifier", and you can see "Monsters take 70% less Damage" in the area panel of the Uber Searing Exarch arena in the image at the top of this page.
So a 10M DPS character on the default Pinnacle preset shows roughly 3M on the Uber preset (10M × 0.3). The other preset differences (monster level 85 instead of 84, slightly different armour and evasion values) move the result only a little, so "about 30% of your Pinnacle number" is a reliable rule. This is why two players can both say they "have 10 million DPS" and mean very different things. When someone on Reddit quotes a number, ask which preset it's on.
The resistance numbers are real, too. Poedb's Searing Exarch page lists 50% fire, cold and lightning resistance and 30% chaos resistance, exactly the PoB Pinnacle values. If your build relies on penetration or exposure, set the preset correctly or your PoB number will be fiction.
What DPS benchmarks does the PoE community use for Ubers?
Players in r/PathOfExileBuilds have quoted similar figures for several leagues:
| Goal | Pinnacle-preset DPS | Uber-preset DPS | What it feels like |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bare minimum | ~10M | ~3M | Long fights; one mistake usually costs the attempt |
| Comfortable | ~10–20M | ~3–6M | Most Ubers end in a few minutes if you know the fight |
| Fast / phase-skipping | 30–50M+ | 9–15M+ | Some phases end before their mechanics fire |
A reply in an r/PathOfExileBuilds thread from October 2026 put the "comfortable" tier plainly: "10-20m dps is plenty to do Ubers with with the fights only lasting a few minutes. If you are struggling it probably just comes down to staying alive." The same thread translated it into Uber terms: 10–20M against Ubers "translates to 3-6 million real damage through the 70% less damage on them."
Older threads in the same sub agree almost word for word: "at least 10 million dps, or about 3 million uber pinnacle dps, to make it feel good." Another added a caveat that matters: "10 mil dps assuming 100% uptime."
Does DPS uptime matter more than the DPS number?
Yes. PoB shows your DPS while standing still and hitting a target that never moves. Uber fights take that away from you in three ways:
- Immunity windows. In the Uber Elder fight, the Elder is immune to damage while the Shaper is above 75% life, and both are immune during intermissions. Your damage does nothing for long stretches no matter how high it is.
- Forced movement. Uber Sirus creates a Storm that chases you through the arena, and his Die Beam tracks you at full power in every phase. Builds that must stand still to deal damage, such as channelling skills, lose a big share of their sheet DPS. Totems and ballistas keep firing while you move, but every re-placement after a forced reposition is downtime.
- Ramp-up resets. If your build needs stacks, charges or a long setup, one death or a forced reposition costs far more than the raw DPS loss.
Treat your PoB number as a ceiling. A build with 3M Uber DPS that hits on the move often kills faster than a 6M build that has to stand still and wait for a channel.
Which Uber bosses are DPS checks and which are survival checks?
Every Uber has far more life and damage than its normal version (Maxroll's Exarch guide calls it "massively increased life and damage"), but each one tests something different. A naming note first: the Uber Elder is the Shaper-and-Elder fight you open with the four-fragment Maddening Object; the Uber Uber Elder is its harder version, opened with Decaying Fragments. Since 3.28, every Uber needs four fragments, not five: "Uber Bosses now only require 4 Fragments to access (previously 5)" (3.28.0 patch notes). Many older guides still say five. The table below, built from Maxroll's pinnacle boss guides, covers the Uber versions:
| Uber boss | Unlock (4× in Map Device) | What it checks |
|---|---|---|
| Uber Shaper | Cosmic Fragment | Survival: starts with two clones, Vortex zones stay for the whole fight, Zana doesn't help in Bullet Hell |
| Uber Uber Elder | Decaying Fragment | Uptime: Elder immune while Shaper is above 75% life; Elder casts 3 Rings of Death |
| Uber Sirus | Awakening Fragment | Mobility and DPS on the move: chasing Storm, tracking Die Beam, 6-beam final phase |
| Uber Maven | Reality Fragment | Recovery and DPS: starts fully empowered; Brain Beams apply Maven's Punishment (no recovery) |
| Uber Searing Exarch | Blazing Fragment | Movement under pressure: extra mortar projectiles, a Molten Minotaur each Rolling Meteor phase |
| Uber Eater of Worlds | Devouring Fragment | Max hit: the Lightning Beam tracks you and repeats two additional times; Doom Phase spawns maximum Energy Spheres |
| Uber Cortex (Venarius) | Synthesising Fragment | Clear speed: an extra unique Synthete each phase, Energy Pylons in all four phases |
Maxroll's Shaper guide is blunt about the beam: "Most builds don't survive standing in the beam."
Practical takeaways:
- Good first Ubers (build-dependent): many players start with Uber Exarch or Uber Eater, because their mechanics are readable and you can keep hitting through most of them.
- Hardest DPS gate: Uber Maven. Her empowered start, the memory game and the no-recovery debuff punish long fights, so extra DPS directly reduces your risk.
- Hardest uptime gate: Uber Uber Elder. Its immunity windows mean your "real" kill time is much longer than your DPS suggests.

What defences do you need before attempting Ubers?
When players say they "don't have the DPS for Ubers", the real problem is usually survival. This checklist is based on Maxroll's Defenses for Beginners and Getting Stronger guides:
- Elemental resistances capped at 75%. That's the default cap. Max-resistance modifiers can raise it as high as 90%, and every point above 75% cuts elemental damage taken a lot more than it looks.
- Chaos resistance: 30% or more. Maxroll's advice is to "get 30% or more Chaos Resistance."
- 100% Spell Suppression if you use evasion or a hybrid base. Maxroll: "Cap Suppression at 100%." Since 3.27, "Spell Suppression now prevents 40% of Damage from Suppressed Hits and Ailments they inflict (previously 50%)" (3.27.0 patch notes), and many Uber one-shots are spells.
- Freeze immunity, plus stun avoidance. Per Maxroll, reaching 100% chance to avoid an ailment such as Freeze makes you immune to it. Stun isn't an ailment, so it needs its own avoidance. Getting frozen or stunned in an Uber arena usually ends the attempt.
- Corrupted Blood immunity for Sirus. Maxroll: "Make sure to bring a form of Corrupted Blood Immunity to this fight."
- A real physical max hit. Players disagree on exact numbers, but they agree that max hit (the biggest single hit you survive, shown in PoB) matters more than total EHP for Ubers. Evasion alone does not stop a boss slam.
- A buffer for no-recovery windows. Uber Maven's Brain Beams apply Maven's Punishment, which blocks life and energy shield recovery for 10 seconds. Leech and regen can't save you during it, so your pool has to carry you through.
If your PoB shows 3M Uber DPS and you still die in every attempt, spend your next upgrades on defence. One fewer death saves more time than 2M extra DPS.
How do you raise your Uber DPS fast?
Once your defences are in place, the usual levers apply. Our full guide to increasing DPS in Path of Exile covers the math. For Ubers in particular:
- Set PoB to "Uber Pinnacle Boss" first. Every other decision should be measured against the number you'll actually face.
- Fix penetration and exposure (elemental and chaos builds). Against 50% boss resistances, removing resistance is often worth more than another "increased damage" roll. Check it in PoB for your build rather than assuming.
- Prioritise "more" multipliers from support gems and your ascendancy over more "increased" damage on the tree.
- Swap in boss-specific gems. Many builds run one setup for mapping and another for single target.
- Use flasks and charges you can keep up while moving. A bonus you only get while standing still is worth far less in an Uber fight.

Did 3.29 change Uber boss difficulty?
No. We checked the official patch notes for 3.29.0 through 3.29.3, and none of them retune the difficulty of an existing pinnacle or Uber boss (3.29.2 only fixed an Incarnation of Dread bug in party play). The 3.29.0 notes add a new Abyss endgame pinnacle boss and "Searing Exarch Altar Modifiers that drop Mercenaries Scarabs", and fix a bug with the Ruthless "Utmost Ubers" challenge requirements. The only boss-life change in the 3.29.x patches ("Abyssal Depths Lich boss life has been increased by 25%", 3.29.1) applies to the new Abyss content, not the Ubers.
That means the community benchmarks above still apply in 3.29, and they're a good starting point for 3.30. With the Curse of the Allflame challenge league ending at 1PM PST on November 9 (GGG's 3.30 timeline) and the 3.30 reveal at ExileCon on November 7–8, this is the last window to finish Uber-related challenges this league. Our 3.29 challenges guide lists what's left. If you're still collecting Voidstones rather than fighting Ubers, you don't need Uber kills at all: the normal pinnacle fights grant all four stones. See how to get all 4 Voidstones.
Can't get the kill? Your options
There are three realistic ways to get an Uber kill you can't manage yet:
- Upgrade and practise. Practise the normal version until the mechanics are automatic, fix the defensive gaps above, then return. Our Uber boss farming guide covers fragments and loot.
- Buy the upgrade instead of farming it. If one item stands between you and 3M Uber DPS, buying the currency is usually faster than grinding for it.
- Get carried. If the kill, the challenge or the drop matters more than doing it yourself, a carry gets you the kill this week.

FAQ
How much DPS do you need for Uber bosses in PoE? About 3 million DPS on Path of Building's "Uber Pinnacle Boss" preset, which is roughly 10 million on the default "Guardian/Pinnacle Boss" preset, is the community's bare minimum. Around 10–20M Pinnacle-preset DPS (3–6M Uber) is comfortable. These are community benchmarks; GGG publishes no official number.
Why is my DPS 70% lower against Uber bosses? Uber arenas give monsters "70% less damage taken". PoB applies it only when you select the "Uber Pinnacle Boss" option under "Is the enemy a Boss?", so your Uber-preset DPS is about 30% of your Pinnacle-preset DPS.
How much DPS do you need for the Uber Elder? For the harder Uber Uber Elder (four Decaying Fragments), the same ~3M Uber-preset baseline applies, but it punishes low uptime more than any other Uber. The regular Uber Elder needs much less. The Elder is immune while the Shaper is above 75% life, and both bosses are immune during intermissions, so plan on fights lasting longer than your DPS suggests.
Which Uber boss should I do first? Many players start with the Uber Searing Exarch or Uber Eater of Worlds (4 Blazing or 4 Devouring Fragments). Their mechanics are readable and you can keep hitting through most of the fight. Uber Maven and Uber Sirus are usually left for last.
Is EHP or max hit more important for Ubers? Max hit. Uber bosses kill with single big hits (slams, beams, the Shaper's teleport slam), so the largest hit you can survive matters more than total EHP. Cap your resistances, reach 30%+ chaos resistance, and, if your build uses evasion, get 100% Spell Suppression.
Did patch 3.29 make Uber bosses harder? No. None of the 3.29.0–3.29.3 patch notes retune an existing pinnacle or Uber boss. The one boss-life buff in 3.29.1 applied to the new Abyss Lich content. Check the 3.30 patch notes when they release before the November 13 launch.
