Quick answer: A Forward Operating Base (FOB) is one of the best teamplay money-and-XP earners in WARDOGS, but it is not free: the FOB module costs $7,500 Cash at the vendor in Season 1 (up from $2,500 before the launch rebalance). You earn back far more than that — building, defending, and especially resupplying a FOB all pay — but only if the base is doing work inside the Control Zone. Below is exactly how FOB earning works in Season 1, what pays and what does not after Update 0.1.2, and how to turn a FOB into the fastest Cash-and-XP loop before the October 15 wipe.
WARDOGS — the 100-player, three-team Control Zone FPS from BULKHEAD — is built so that teamplay pays more than kills, and nothing says teamplay like a Forward Operating Base. On the Season 1 r/WarDogs board, FOBs are the single most-discussed system right now: how to build them, who "owns" them, why too many is a problem, and the recurring one — "FOB support exp and money tick mystery." This guide answers all of it with first-party Season 1 numbers, labels every unverified figure, and keeps the brand rules straight (this is BULKHEAD's game, and their anti-cheat and EULA mean we are careful about what we claim).
Everything here applies to WARDOGS Early Access, Season 1, against the "Pre-Load Live & Season 1 Changelog" (Steam, 2026-09-09) and Update 0.1.2 (Steam, 2026-09-30). Season 1 resets on October 15, 2026, so FOB Cash is a time-boxed asset — more on that at the end.

What is a FOB in WARDOGS?
A Forward Operating Base is a player-built forward position. You buy the FOB module from the in-match vendor, deploy it, and then the whole team can build on and around it — walls, Hesco blocks, gates, mortars, CIWS anti-air, and other deployables. BULKHEAD's own guide material frames the large capturable towers on the map as FOB anchor points: "The large towers in Wardogs act as a focal point for your FOBs and can be a great vantage point, but capturing them also has its advantages" (BULKHEAD, via the official Steam news feed).
A FOB is not a solo project. As one player put it on the Season 1 board, "It's not your fob, it's our fob" — once it is down, teammates will wall it, stock it, and fight from it. That shared nature is exactly why it earns: a FOB turns one player's $7,500 into a position that generates Cash and XP for everyone who feeds it.
Important: WARDOGS is not an extraction shooter or a battle royale, and a FOB is not a "base" you keep between matches. It is a per-match structure. Your Cash persists match to match; the FOB does not. See our Control Zone mode guide for how a round is actually won.
How much does a FOB cost in WARDOGS? (Season 1)
The FOB module price went up in the Season 1 rebalance. Here are the verified launch-Season-1 vendor numbers from the 2026-09-09 changelog:
| Item | Before (beta) | Season 1 | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Forward Operating Base module | $2,500 | $7,500 | Season 1 Changelog, 2026-09-09 |
| Large Hammer (vendor) | $1,600 | $2,400 | Season 1 Changelog, 2026-09-09 |
| Large Supply Crate (Driver 16) | — | available on Driver track | Season 1 Changelog, 2026-09-09 |
BULKHEAD explained the FOB price hike in the changelog itself: the "Forward Operating Base and Large Hammer vendor prices have gone up to make them more of a choice." In other words, dropping a FOB is now a real commitment of your banked Cash, not a reflex — so you want to drop it where it will actually earn.
Remember the two-gate rule that governs everything in WARDOGS: an item needs both the track level to unlock access and the Cash to buy it each life. The Large Hammer you use to build faster, for example, sits on the Support track (Support level 8 in Season 1). If you are grinding toward the gear that lets you build and defend efficiently, our Season 1 unlock-levels guide lists every confirmed gate.
How do you earn Cash and XP from a FOB?
This is the part players keep asking about, so here is the clean version. There are three distinct earning actions around a FOB, and they pay differently.
1. Building it
WARDOGS pays you for completing build actions, not just for being near a structure. In the beta, PC Gamer documented each productive hammer swing paying roughly $15 and a completed build paying $1,200–$1,500 — "more than getting a kill." Those are beta figures the author explicitly disclaimed, and the Season 1 changelog then moved prices and re-scaled curves, so treat the exact numbers as indicative, not current. The principle holds in Season 1: swinging a hammer to raise walls, towers, and emplacements is a steady Cash-and-XP drip, which is why you will see three players silently hammering a tower FOB while the firefight rages elsewhere.
2. Defending from it
A FOB inside the Control Zone is a force multiplier. Holding ground with more of your team in the zone is literally how you score points and win the round (first team to 100 points), and the teamplay actions you perform from a defended position — reviving squadmates, transporting friendlies to the zone, controlling the objective — each reward Cash. BULKHEAD's store text is explicit: "Every teamplay action you perform rewards cash. From reviving squadmates, transporting friendlies to the zone, or controlling the objective."
3. Resupplying it — the "FOB support" tick
This is the "mystery" from the board, and it is the most interesting earner. When you resupply a FOB — delivering ammo pallets, mechanical supplies, fuel — and that supply then gets used by a teammate operating a FOB weapon, the game pays you, the supplier, a FOB support reward. Players on the Season 1 board describe it like this: "Ammo supplies — when someone uses a FOB weapon and does something (kills, destroys buildings, vehicles), you get that money as FOB support," and "you get paid $375 no matter what is blown up or killed, so for most kills you get a nice share but the gunner gets the lion's share." Players also report that mechanical supplies for the Stingray do give money.
Treat those exact dollar figures as player-reported (Tier-3), not first-party — BULKHEAD has not published a FOB-support payout table. But the mechanic is real and confirmed by a first-party patch note, which brings us to the trap.
The Update 0.1.2 catch: location matters now
If you were farming FOB support by dumping pallets into a safe rear base, that loophole is closed. WARDOGS Update 0.1.2 (2026-09-30) added, verbatim: "Depositing pallets into a FOB outside the zone now awards reduced rewards."
Translation: a FOB only pays full value when it is in the fight, inside the Control Zone where the supplies actually get consumed under contest. A FOB parked out in the 256 km² map, far from the 2×2 km Control Zone, is now a weak earner. This is consistent with everything else about the economy — WARDOGS rewards contested, useful teamplay, and quietly nerfs anything that looks like safe, passive farming. The same update also made clear that Bulkhead is done being lenient with Cash and XP exploits: CEO Joe Brammer told PCGamesN leniency for first-time offenders "is now over," and bans can be permanent. Earn inside the zone; do not try to game it.

WARDOGS - Career Leveling

Is a FOB worth $7,500? (and the "too many FOBs" problem)
For a coordinated squad, yes — a well-placed, defended, resupplied FOB inside the zone returns its $7,500 many times over through build pay, support ticks, and the Cash from the teamplay it enables. For a lone player dropping a FOB nobody defends, it is often a waste: the base gets overrun, as one player described — "Yesterday I went to help build the tower FOB… FOB was lost 4 minutes later."
There is also a real "too many FOBs" question on the board — "Is there such a thing as too many FOBs?" The practical answer: FOBs compete for the same build resources and attention, and a team that scatters five half-built FOBs across the map wins less than one that holds a single fortified position inside the zone. Concentrate. One good FOB that everyone feeds beats five abandoned ones.
And remember the Hot Zone — the shifting sub-zone inside the Control Zone that pays double Cash and counts double toward control. A FOB positioned to let your team contest the Hot Zone is the single highest-value structure you can build. We break the Hot Zone math down in the Hot Zone double-cash guide.
A fast FOB Cash loop (Season 1)
Putting it together, here is the loop that earns the most per hour right now:
- Bank first. Build up Cash through cheap teamplay before you spend $7,500 on a FOB. Our cash-farming guide covers the early-match actions that pay.
- Drop the FOB inside (or next to) the Control Zone, ideally anchored on a captured tower, and near the Hot Zone when it shifts your way.
- Hammer the build with a Large Hammer if you have it — completed builds pay well and fast.
- Then switch to resupply. Run ammo and mechanical supplies into the FOB so teammates on mortars, CIWS, and emplacements keep firing — every used pallet pays you a support tick.
- Defend and revive. Reviving squadmates and holding the zone each pay Cash on top of the FOB income.
- Keep it in the fight. After Update 0.1.2, a FOB outside the zone earns reduced rewards — reposition rather than retreat.
Grinding this loop is the legitimate, in-game way to stack Cash. If you would rather skip the grind and have your Season 1 Cash topped up before the October 15 wipe, you can buy it directly:
Short on time before the wipe? These are the WARDOGS services players reach for most, ranked by demand:

FOBs and the Season 2 wipe
One last thing that changes the math this week. Season 1 ends and Season 2 begins on October 15, 2026, and the wipe resets your Cash and XP. Any Cash you are sitting on when the season flips is auto-converted into Gold Bars, which are permanent cosmetic currency. So there is no point hoarding Cash for a rainy day right now — the rainy day is October 15. Spend it on FOBs, vehicles, and scopes you would never normally risk, earn the support ticks, and let the leftovers convert. For the full spend-or-save decision, see what to buy before the WARDOGS wipe.
FAQ
How much does a FOB cost in WARDOGS? The Forward Operating Base module costs $7,500 Cash at the in-match vendor in Season 1, raised from $2,500 before the launch rebalance. BULKHEAD said in the Season 1 changelog that prices went up "to make them more of a choice." You re-buy it each life, like any loadout item — losing it on death does not un-unlock it.
Do you get money for building a FOB? Yes. WARDOGS pays for completing build actions, not just for standing near a structure. In the beta, each productive hammer swing paid about $15 and a completed build paid $1,200–$1,500 — more than a kill — but those are beta figures BULKHEAD explicitly said would change, so treat them as indicative. Building is a steady Cash-and-XP earner in Season 1.
What is FOB support in WARDOGS? FOB support is the reward you earn when you resupply a FOB — delivering ammo pallets, mechanical supplies, or fuel — and that supply is then used by a teammate operating a FOB weapon. Players report it pays a fixed share (around $375 is the figure cited on the Season 1 board) whenever the gunner they supplied gets a kill or destroys something. The exact payout is player-reported, not published by BULKHEAD, but the mechanic is confirmed by a first-party patch note.
Why does my FOB earn less money now? Because of WARDOGS Update 0.1.2 (September 30, 2026): "Depositing pallets into a FOB outside the zone now awards reduced rewards." A FOB only pays full value when it is inside the Control Zone where its supplies get used under contest. Reposition your FOB into the fight rather than parking it in a safe rear area.
Can you have too many FOBs? Practically, yes. FOBs compete for build resources and defenders, so a team scattering several half-built FOBs across the map holds the zone worse than one that fortifies a single position inside the Control Zone. Concentrate on one well-defended, well-supplied FOB — ideally near the Hot Zone, which pays double Cash.
Will my FOB Cash carry over to Season 2? No. Season 1 resets on October 15, 2026, wiping your Cash and XP. Any leftover Cash auto-converts into Gold Bars (permanent cosmetic currency), so spend your Season 1 Cash — on FOBs, vehicles, and support runs — before the wipe rather than hoarding it.
