Warzone Grind for Royalty: How to Earn Gold Excellence & Gold Mosaic Camos (Season 1)

Warzone gets a new camo system on November 6, and it works differently from every grind before it. Grind for Royalty doesn't give everyone the same target. It reads your own stats and sets your next challenge just above what you've already done.

Activision gave the system one short paragraph in its Season 1 blog, but the graphic underneath explains far more than the text does. We went through both, so here's how the tracks work, how Gold Excellence and Gold Mosaic pay out, and which details you shouldn't trust anyone on until the season is live.

Quick answer (TLDR): Grind for Royalty is a new Warzone Season 1 system that builds personal challenges from your own stats, starting November 6, 2026. Beat the active challenge in a single match to earn XP and unlock the next one. Each stat has its own track, and completing challenges on any track moves you toward the 2 seasonal camos: Gold Excellence and Gold Mosaic, one static and one animated. Challenges reset every season. Activision has not published the stat list or how many challenges each camo takes.

Key facts at a glance:

  • Live: midnight ET on November 6 (9 PM PT on November 5), which is 05:00 UTC
  • Season 1 rewards: 2 camos, Gold Excellence and Gold Mosaic
  • Challenge rule: complete it in one match
  • Reset: every season, with 2 new camos each time
  • Platforms: no PS4 or Xbox One, as Warzone drops both on November 6

What is Grind for Royalty in Warzone?

Grind for Royalty is listed under the launch gameplay features in Activision's Warzone Season 1 blog, so it arrives with the season instead of at the Mid-Season. The official description:

"Push your boundaries with the new Grind for Royalty system, where your personal player stats are taken into account to generate individual challenges." (Call of Duty Blog, November 2, 2026)

Two players in the same squad can therefore be chasing different numbers. That is the real change. A Mastery challenge asks everyone for the same result, while Royalty measures you against your own record.

It also matters more than a side system normally would. The Modern Warfare 4 launch patch notes state that "Weekly Challenges will not be available in Season 1", so Royalty fills part of the space weeklies used to take up. The November 2 blog lists Daily Challenges and Calling Card Challenges as coming to Warzone at launch, and Royalty sits on top of those.

The blog calls it Grind for Royalty while the in-game graphic says Grinding for Royalty. They are the same system.

How does Grind for Royalty work?

The official panel breaks it into three steps. This wording comes straight from that graphic, and we haven't seen it reported elsewhere yet:

Official Grind for Royalty panel showing a personal best, a current challenge, six stat tiers and seasonal camo rewards

StepIn-game textWhat it means
Beat Your Challenge"Complete the active Challenge in a single match to earn XP and unlock the next."Progress doesn't stack across matches. One match has to clear the number.
Keep Climbing"Each stat has its own track. Complete a Challenge to move to the next one and keep pushing your performance."Several tracks run side by side, and each one climbs on its own.
Earn Seasonal Rewards"Complete Challenges across any stat track to progress toward seasonal Camo rewards."You can pick the tracks that suit you. You don't need every stat.

That third line is the most useful sentence in the whole system. "Any stat track" means a slayer and a support player can both reach the camos through different stats.

What do the example numbers show?

The panel shows two sample tracks, and both are illustrations rather than real targets.

  • Track one: personal best 2.64, current challenge 3.00, reward 1,000 XP. The decimal points to a ratio-style stat, but the panel doesn't name it.
  • Track two: personal best 1, with Tier 2 through Tier 6 asking for 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. The caption reads "Complete each challenge to unlock the next."

From those two examples, the first target sits just above your personal best, and later tiers step up from there. If that holds in the live game, your opening challenges should be easy to clear and the top tiers will need a genuine career match. Treat that as our read of a graphic until the system is live.

Gold Excellence vs Gold Mosaic: what's the difference?

Activision confirms the two names and says the set is "one static, one animated". It doesn't say which name is which.

The panel shows two gold looks on the rifle: one with gold scales over a black stock, the other with a darker red-brown wood finish. Be careful with any guide that matches a name to a render before November 6, because the official graphic doesn't label them. Other Season 1 panels do tag camos as "Animated" (Parallax, for example), and this one doesn't.

What's confirmed, and what isn't?

Nobody has played this yet, so here is the honest split.

The reset line is the one to plan around. Activision writes that "Royalty challenges reset every season", with two new camos each time. It doesn't say whether Gold Excellence and Gold Mosaic stay earnable afterwards, so treat them as season-limited until told otherwise.

How should you play for Royalty on November 6?

None of this has been tested, because the system isn't live. These are our recommendations from the published rules.

  • Open the Royalty screen before your first drop. Check which stats are listed and write down your starting numbers. Your first target tells you how the system reads your history.
  • Pick one stat per match. Since each challenge has to land in a single game, splitting your attention wastes attempts. Decide before the drop whether this match is about kills, survival or whatever the track asks for.
  • Choose your strongest tracks and ignore the rest. "Any stat track" counts, so you never have to force a stat that doesn't suit how you play.
  • Test Rally Point early. It runs on Zodiac with up to 20 players, no circle and infinite Resurgence, and Activision tells you to "try to beat your own elimination high score" there. If kills in Rally Point feed Royalty, it could be the easiest route in the game. It may well be excluded, so play one match and check your progress before investing an evening.
  • Use Resurgence for kill-based tracks. Fast redeploys keep you in fights for longer than a Battle Royale drop does, which suits any single-match kill number. Hajin Massive Resurgence (120 players) and Loaded Resurgence (44 players) are both available at launch.
  • Stick to MW4 weapons. Legacy Weapons don't support Mastery Camos or Weapon Customization in Season 1. Activision hasn't said whether Royalty camos can be applied to them, so don't count on it.

One more thing to expect: Player Level resets with Season 1, so everyone starts their new climb the same night. The sample 1,000 XP reward on the panel suggests Royalty also feeds that climb, though real values may differ.

Which other camos can you earn in Warzone Season 1?

The November 2 blog names four Warzone camo sources, and together they add up to 10 camos. The Battle Pass and later Weapon Camo Events come on top of that.

SourceCamosHow you get themDetails published?
Grind for RoyaltyGold Excellence, Gold MosaicPersonal stat challengesPartly
Return to Warzone EventRenaissance (animated), Violet Striker, Neutral GroundIn-game eventNames only
Rally Point2 unnamed camos, plus 1 weapon blueprintRewards inside the modeNo
Warzone MasteryParallax, Damascus Reforged, EmpyrosLong challenge chainYes

Do these in order of how soon they could disappear. The Return to Warzone Event comes first, since events run on a clock, even though MW4's patch notes promise "reoccurring Events" for anyone who misses a full track. Royalty is next because of the seasonal reset. Mastery has no announced deadline, so it can wait.

If you chased the Season 6 win streak camos, expect a different feel. Those asked everyone for the same result, and Royalty starts from your own numbers.

Grind for Royalty vs Warzone Mastery Camos: which takes longer?

Mastery is much the bigger job, and it's the only one with published numbers. Royalty has no counts yet, while Mastery needs 575 qualifying results after you've already finished the full camo ladder.

Mastery camoRequirementCount
Parallax5 kills in a match300 times
Damascus Reforged2 kills without plating200 times
EmpyrosTop 5 with at least 6 kills75 times

Before any of that, you need the Divergence Completionist camo, which sits behind all the Harmonic Break challenges. Activision says the camo grind is shared across Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone, and our Warzone Mastery Camos breakdown walks through that path.

The two systems do overlap once you get there. A strong 5-kill match can count toward Parallax and push a kill-based Royalty track at the same time, if kills turn out to be a tracked stat.

Can you earn Royalty camos without buying MW4?

Probably, but it isn't spelled out. Warzone stays free-to-play, and nothing in the blog lists an MW4 purchase requirement for Grind for Royalty. What's certain is the platform cutoff. Warzone is no longer playable on PS4 or Xbox One from Season 1, so those consoles can't earn these camos at all. Activision says progression carries over to a supported platform if you log in with the same linked Activision account. See our last-gen support guide for that side of it. Warzone also launches on Nintendo Switch 2 the same day.

Short on time for the camo grind? Royalty challenges depend on your own stats, so the help that counts sits around them: easier lobbies for personal-best matches, and the long Mastery chain finished for you.

FAQ

When does Grind for Royalty start in Warzone? It launches with Season 1 at midnight ET on November 6, 2026, which is 9 PM PT on November 5. Activision lists it as a launch feature, so you don't have to wait for the Mid-Season update.

How do you get Gold Excellence and Gold Mosaic? Complete Grind for Royalty challenges in Warzone Season 1. Each challenge has to be finished in a single match, and challenges on any stat track count toward the seasonal camo rewards. Activision hasn't said how many are required for each camo.

Is Grind for Royalty the same as Warzone Ranked? No. Royalty is a personal challenge system that pays out camos, while Ranked is a competitive mode. Ranked Play isn't in the Season 1 mode list from the November 2 blog. Our Warzone Ranked return guide covers the likely window.

Do Royalty challenges reset? Yes. Activision says they reset every season, with two new camos each time, one static and one animated. It hasn't said whether Gold Excellence and Gold Mosaic can still be earned after Season 1 ends.

Do Royalty camos work on Legacy Weapons? Activision hasn't said. Legacy Weapons don't support Mastery Camos or Weapon Customization in Season 1, so assume Royalty is an MW4 weapon reward until the game shows otherwise.

Does Rally Point count for Grind for Royalty? That isn't confirmed. Rally Point has its own rewards, one exclusive blueprint and two camos, but the blog doesn't say whether its matches feed Royalty tracks. Play one match after launch and check your progress screen.
