Quick answer: WOW51900337 ("Access to this realm requires an account with a valid access license") means the WoW account you're launching has no Forever access. Pick the right WoW1/WoW2 account in Battle.net, or redeem your Collector's Edition code. WOW51900309 ("No realms are currently available") means the ruleset can't be reached. Since about Oct 31 it has mostly hit the Normal ruleset in North America, while the other rulesets work for the same accounts, which points to a server-side problem. "This ruleset is temporarily unavailable" means rulesets are closed, either for everyone or for your client language or account region. Blizzard's support page lists five of these errors, but its only stated rule is about faction balance: "Customer Support cannot help bypassing this restriction."

Which WoW Forever errors have players actually hit?
These are the errors players reported during the eight days of Early Name Reservation. Blizzard's name reservation support article lists five of them under "Common Problems".
| Error message | What it means | First thing to try |
|---|---|---|
| Access to this realm requires an account with a valid access license (WOW51900337) | Selected WoW account has no Forever license | Switch WoW1/WoW2 account, redeem CE code |
| No realms are currently available (WOW51900309) | The ruleset you chose is unreachable | Use another ruleset, recreate later |
| This ruleset is temporarily unavailable | Rulesets closed or blocked for your client | Wait, check language and account region |
| Character creation timed out | Server didn't confirm the new character | Relog and check whether it was created |
| This faction is currently unavailable... due to population imbalance | Faction balance lock | Wait and retry slowly |
| Creation of that type of character is currently throttled | Creation rate limit | Stop retrying for a few minutes |
| That name is restricted | Name filter, over-strict until Oct 28 | Retry, then pick another name |
Each one is covered below: what it means, what fixed it for players, and what Blizzard has said, quoted word for word.
What does WOW51900337 mean in WoW Forever?
The full message is "Access to this realm requires an account with a valid access license. (WOW51900337)". It shows up right after you pick a ruleset. The game doesn't see a Forever license on the WoW game account you're logged into. It was one of the most reported errors on reservation night: the two biggest US threads on it passed 4,200 views combined.
During reservation, only the upgrade gives access. Blizzard's support article says: "Pre-purchasing is the only way to have access to name reservation. If you claimed a Beta code or an Invite a Friend code, those codes do not grant access to name reservation." A subscription alone isn't enough until launch.
Fixes players reported:
- Switch the game account. One Battle.net login can hold several WoW accounts (WoW1, WoW2, or an old trial). Blizzard's reservation article says the upgrade "only applies to the specific WoW account it was purchased for." Click the WoW Forever icon, then pick the account from the dropdown under Game Version. In a forum thread, one player found the pack had been attached to an old trial account.
- Restart Battle.net if the dropdown is missing. Players in the main WOW51900337 thread report the account dropdown sometimes disappears. Fully quitting the launcher from the system tray brought it back. Another workaround: launch Wow.exe from the _forever_ folder and log in there. It asks which account to use.
- Redeem the Collector's Edition code. One player lost about six hours because the physical CE's digital code was never redeemed. The beta had worked, but reservation didn't. Redeeming the code fixed it, and others in the main thread confirmed the same.
- Check the region. A purchase on the EU account doesn't count on the US one. If you bought on the wrong account or region, the fix is a refund. Blizzard's Yryadorne said on the EU forums: "if you purchase the wrong game, or purchase a game on the wrong account, you will need to request a refund for this: we're unable to change the license for a game, or move it from one account to another."
From launch on Nov 4, access comes from an active subscription or Game Time, or a redeemed Invite-A-Friend launch code for Nov 4 to 11. If you see WOW51900337 after 23:00 UTC, check that the account you selected is the one that pays for WoW. Blizzard hasn't published anything new about this error for launch.
Why does WoW Forever say "No realms are currently available" (WOW51900309)?
You pick a ruleset and immediately get "No realms are currently available. (WOW51900309)". The ruleset you chose isn't letting your account in. It has come in waves:
- Oct 27 to 30: mostly Roleplay and Roleplay-PvP, plus the Oceanic Roleplay bug. Blizzard Customer Support's Vrakthris posted on Oct 30: "It looks like the RP Ruleset was offline, but it should be back now if you can give it another try."
- Since about Oct 31: the Normal ruleset in North America. Players say PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay-PvP all work, but Normal fails at once. The main thread passed 200 posts and 4,700 views by Nov 3. Players who tried Scan and Repair, reinstalls, DNS flushes and new install folders say none of them helped. One player says another account connects to Normal from the same PC. The same pattern shows up on r/classicwow, where a Nov 1 post reports Normal failing while the other three rulesets connect.
What works: reserve on a ruleset you can reach, then move later. Vrakthris suggested this on Oct 29: "if you cannot log into the Ruleset that you want but can another, you can reserve your name there. You'll just need to delete that character and switch to the Ruleset you want to, when you are able to." Names are unique per region, so the name follows you. This is for unplayed reservation characters: after launch, deleting a character you've played deletes its progress too. On PvP, check our faction unavailable guide first.
Blizzard hadn't posted about the Normal wave as of the "Last verified" time above. One player reported that a support ticket answer called it fixed while the error continued. Blizzard's maintenance schedule lists a WoW: Forever window today from 18:00 to 19:00 UTC, but it doesn't say what the maintenance is for. Our server status log tracks it.
What does "This ruleset is temporarily unavailable" mean?
All ruleset buttons are greyed out, with "This ruleset is temporarily unavailable". Blizzard lists it as a known error. Players hit it for three different reasons:
- Rulesets weren't open yet. In Europe, reservation was due at 18:00 CET on Oct 27, but the rulesets stayed grey. Blizzard's Yryadorne confirmed: "World of Warcraft: Forever Name Reservations are delayed while we resolve some final technical issues." Players in the EU thread, which reached 174 posts and 14,000 views, reported access from about 19:45 UTC. The fix was waiting.
- Your client language. EU players with a Russian-language client couldn't reach any ruleset, while English and German worked. Yryadorne suggested "switching your client to another language (such as English) in the Battle.net app" and later confirmed that "The issue with the Russian client was patched last night by our developers". If one language fails, try another.
- Your account region. A player in London found their Battle.net account was registered in the Americas region, so they could only get in when the Americas window opened. The region is fixed to the account, not to where you live.
What does "Character creation timed out" mean?
You fill in a name, see the green check mark, press Finish, and get "Character creation timed out". It was widely reported on Oct 27, the opening night of reservation. One player in Blizzard's busiest reservation thread shared a useful tip: if you retry and the name now says taken, the game may already have created your character, "the server is just behind in updating it". Log out and back in to check your character list before choosing a new name. In another thread, a player who retried "a dozen times" on Roleplay got through on Roleplay-PvP instead.

Why is my faction unavailable, or creation "throttled"?
"This faction is currently unavailable on this realm due to population imbalance" is a deliberate lock, mostly on Horde PvP. Blizzard's support article explains it: "if one faction is significantly more dominant than the other, character creation will be temporarily restricted for the dominant faction. Customer Support cannot help bypassing this restriction." On the PvP ruleset you also can't have both factions at once. Our faction unavailable guide covers the waits players report and where to hold your name meanwhile.
"Creation of that type of character is currently throttled" is on Blizzard's list too, without an explanation. Players hit it mostly while making Horde PvP characters during the balance lock, and also after fast repeated retries. That it's a rate limit is our reading, since Blizzard hasn't explained it. Players say it cleared after they slowed down, with waits from a few minutes to 30 to 45 minutes. Stop, wait, then retry once a minute.
What other WoW Forever errors were reported?
- "That name is restricted". A confirmed bug blocked harmless names (anything containing "c-o-n", for example). Kaivax said Blizzard would fix it "with the next realm restarts in each region", and players reported names freed after the Oct 28 restarts. If a name is still blocked, it may be restricted on purpose. See our name reservation guide.
- "This game cannot be installed yet" or a greyed-out Install button. Usually the wrong game account or no upgrade. Our pre-install fix has the steps.
- Characters on the wrong ruleset. Some players found Roleplay characters sitting on Roleplay-PvP. Vrakthris said "RP and RP-PVP has been causing no small number of issues", and suggested deleting and recreating where you want, since names are unique to the region. Before launch, check which ruleset header shows on your character list.
Will these errors happen at launch?
Nobody knows yet, and Blizzard hasn't said. Two things are certain. The game is offline for maintenance on Nov 4 from 18:00 to about 23:00 UTC (10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. PST), so errors during that window just mean it's closed. At 23:00 UTC, access stops depending on owning an upgrade: any active subscription or Game Time counts. So we expect WOW51900337 after launch to be mostly a game-time or wrong-account question, though Blizzard hasn't said so.
Before you log in on launch day:
- Confirm the account. In Battle.net, check the WoW account under Game Version is the one with your subscription or pack.
- Note your reserved characters' ruleset, because the Normal outage pushed many people onto other rulesets.
- Keep the client in a working language if you play in Europe.
- Check status before troubleshooting. If Blizzard reports a problem, waiting is the fix. Our server status log lists every official notice with UTC times, and the launch time page converts the opening to your clock.
If nothing above helps, open a ticket from the Blizzard Support article and include the full error code. Forum posts reach Customer Support staff, but a ticket is tied to your account.

FAQ
How do I fix WOW51900337 in WoW Forever? Select the WoW account (WoW1, WoW2 or an old trial) that actually holds your Forever upgrade in the Battle.net dropdown. Redeem any physical Collector's Edition code. Check that you bought on the right region. If the purchase went to the wrong account, Blizzard says you need a refund, because licenses can't be moved.
What does "Access to this realm requires an account with a valid access license" mean? It's the text of WOW51900337. The game account you're logged into has no Forever access. During reservation that meant no upgrade. From launch it usually means no active subscription or Game Time on that account.
How do I fix WOW51900309 "No realms are currently available"? If other rulesets work for the same account, the problem is most likely on the ruleset's side, not your PC. During reservation, reserve on a ruleset you can reach, then delete and recreate the level-1 character on the one you want once it works. Names are unique per region. Don't do this with a character you've already played, because deleting it deletes its progress. Since about Oct 31 this has mostly affected the Normal ruleset in North America.
What does "This ruleset is temporarily unavailable" mean? Rulesets are closed for you. It happened to everyone in Europe when reservation was delayed on Oct 27, to players using the Russian client until a patch on Oct 29, and to players whose account belongs to another region.
Is WoW Forever down or is it my account? Check the Battle.net app banner, the Breaking News banner on Blizzard Support, @BlizzardCS on X and the Forever forums. If they're quiet, that doesn't rule out a server problem. Still, if only one account fails, check that account's license first, and if only one ruleset fails, use the workaround above.
Can Blizzard Support fix these errors for me? For the faction lock, no: Blizzard says Customer Support cannot help bypass it. For license problems, Support can process a refund but can't move a license between accounts. For ruleset outages, staff pass reports to the developers, so include the error code and your ruleset.
